:) Hi this is my first posting and the first day of the rest of my life thinner and healthier.
Today wasn't the greatest day in the world, but not the worst either and tomorrow will be better. I am taking baby steps and patting myself on the back with each new one I take, and if I fall down, I will pick myself up, dust my self off and continue on as if I never missed a step.
My first accomplishment has been that I have gone 6 entire days with out any soda at all, not diet, not regular. I have only been drinking water, some juice, coffee with sweetner and ice tea with no sweetner. That is a big one for me, as I drank on average 3 coca colas a day, everyday.
Today I ate McDonalds Steak and Cheese Bagel and Hashbrown with coffee for breakfast, had a snack of blueberry pie, for lunch I had a Gyro, with FF and iced tea unsweetened, for dinner I had 2 slices of tombstone pizza (3 meat) and for desert I had a slice of blueberry pie.
See not a great day, but not a bad one either................didn't plan to start today, but decided what the heck no reason to put it off till tomorrow, because if I do, it will never get started.
Tomorrow, a healthy breakfast and hopefully fruit added and less take out food. If asthma is under control, I will even try a walk.
Every small accomplishment is just one step closer to the goal.
Need to loose 100lbs, hopefully will do it right and keep it off.
Judy :)

See not a great day, but not a bad one either................
Sorry to rain on your parade, but it was a pretty awful day. Everything you ate was processed food, so far as I can tell.
If you really want to lose 100 pounds, your progress will be much accelerated by eating mainly unprocessed foods (and very small amounts of fast foods).
It's good that you've tried to kick the soda habit. I must admit to a puzzlement about why the stuff's so popular. It's fizzy flavoured water, right? I think the zillions spent advertising it probably give a clue. The longer you go without, the less you'll miss it.
Advice: Count your calories daily. Use the calorie calculators on this site. They're a great free resource. That way, you're not guessing whether you had a bad day or a good day. You'll know.
I reckon if you put yesterday's menu into it, you'd freak at the amount of fat and sugar (and probably salt) that you ate.
Knowledge is power. Use this site to amass more knowledge.
Good luck on your weight loss quest.

Well soontobeme, I'm glad I wrote you that note welcoming you and "warning" you that to expect such a post as NevD's. He's perfectly correct, and to add to what he's written I'd like to suggest that as you read through the tutorial:
http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial_lowcal.html
I suspect that the list of food you ate yesterday (albeit almost 100% "junk food") was an improvement over what was a normal day for you, and baby steps are still steps in the right direction. It's great that you watched what you ate and accounted for it!
However, as you learn more about eating healthy foods, you will find that it is much easier to lose weight (and become healthier in the process) by eating more natural, unprocessed foods... as NevD suggests.
Again, welcome and congrats on making a start!

Welcome to the forum, Judy! I'm so glad you found it. Losing any amount of weight can be difficult. And it is always tempting to crash, or follow a fad, but here you CAN learn how to make healthy choices. And, you are so right, baby steps in the right direction. And knowing you may fall down, but planning to get back up and move in the right direction again is how you will find success.
We are in such a fast food society :chew:. Those foods are so void of any nutrition that we end up eating more and more and gaining more and more weight, while still being malnourished! It can be so hard to think of changing every single meal from something convenient to something healthy (specially while still learning what is healthy). Please, don't get discouraged. Everyone here has experienced what you are, whether they had 20-50-100 or more to lose.
I would like you to think of making your first meal, every day, a healthy meal . You will give your body some good feul, and set yourself up for success. We all have to decide what works for us. But, for breakfast I love to have stonyfield farm fat free yogurt with kashi heart to heart cereal in it. If you really are addicted to breakfast sandwiches, try to make a healthy alternative with egg beaters, low fat cheese and whole grain english muffins. Yes, add fruit and veggies to your diet. And consider taking some multi-vitamins. Drink lots of water. And, you have done something that I have not been able to do yet, eliminate soda from your diet!
We are all pulling for you. YOU CAN DO THIS!!! Good luck, and let us know what you are finding difficult or frustrating, chances are that it's something someone here has had to deal with too and we can help you. *hugs*

:) Hi All,
Thank you all for the words of advise and encouragement. I was prepared for the worst as I did go thru some of the forums before I posted and I have also read thru all the tutorials and knew that by these things that I had an awful day, but, from what I usually eat and since it was a decision I didn't make until I posted yesterday.......it was not so bad. You will be glad to know that today has so far been better and at the end of the day, I will post all that I ate.
NevD I did use the food calculator and yesterday my total calorie intake was 2,423, I did look at the fat and the sodium, which I knew was going to be high, but didn't record it in my book. I am currently writing down everything I eat and when I do my calculator at the end of the day, I highlight what was extremely high in fat and sodium so that I know to keep it out of my diet in the future.
Once again Thank you all and I will continue to post here and keep everyone updated on my progress and on my way to eating to live, not living to eat.
Judy :)

| I'm a big fan of baby steps, too. I feel like I keep making progress and am encouraged by each mini-goal or change that I am able to make. Yet the changes are not so challenging as to feel unattainable. And - at the end of a month or two - I look back on my progress and see how much all those baby steps add up. That's where the diary forum is especially useful. I hope you find it useful also. Good luck!

:) Hi again,
Today was much better than yesterday, but still not at that point yet.
Breakfast was 2 poached eggs, with hash browns (fresh, not frozen) cooked in a non stick skillet with no fat Pam spray, 3 slices of bacon (I know a big no no, lots of fat and sodium) and 1 pc of 100% whole wheat toast w/1tsp of tub margarine.
Snack - 1 orange
Lunch - Tomato sandwich, 2 slices of 100% whole wheat bread, 1 medium size tomato, and 1 tsp of miracle whip
Snack - Banana
Dinner - 1 chicken breast grilled w/1 tsp of bbq sauce, 1/2 cup pinto beans, 1/4 cup of mac and cheese, and 1 salad consisting of 1 cup of lettuce, 1/2 tomato, 1/2 cucumber and 1 tsp of hidden valley ranch dressing
Dessert - 1 slice of Blueberry Pie (its all gone now, so not there to tempt me)
Drank only water and iced tea w/no sweetener today.
I also take a multi vitamin w/iron and extra calcium every day.
Total intake of calories today was 1,785.80, not bad considering yesterdays was over 2,000. Don't like the Protein, Fat, and Carb ratios Protein - 22%, Fat 36%, and Carbs 42%. I am going for the goal of 30 % Protein, 50% Carb, and 20% Fat. Guess I will have to play with the food calculator tonight and figure out what to eat tomorrow and see how that works out.
Have a great evening and hopefully a wonderful day tomorrow.
Judy :)

Any improvement is a step in the right direction!
Sorry if my previous post was a bit blunt.

Thanks nevD,
Don't worry about being blunt, all the criticism right now is very welcome. Like I said I want and need to make this change in my life and people being nice about what I am eating is not to my benefit if it is wrong. All the help I can receive is what I need and want or I wouldn't of posted on this board.
Well, I am about to have my breakfast and then off to work.
I got up this morning early and did my resitance exercises w/my exercise bands (that is a great start, physical exercise for me is walking to my car to go somewhere.)
Breakfast is 1/2 cup of oatmeal, with 1/4 cup of applesauce (homemade), 1 pc of whole wheat toast w/1 tsp of peanut butter
I have packed two healthy snacks and a healthy lunch for work.
Have a great day.
Judy :)

Hi Judy, I'm relatively new here, but want to say welcome;) My all-time high weight was 249 and I was in a size 24. I now am just under 172 and comfortably in a size 12. My point is...been there, done that! I am now struggling to get the last pounds off. I am currently following the Eat to Live plan, which Peter has info on, on this site. But to get the first 70 plus pounds off I did a variety of diets.
My suggestion would to be make substitutions. If they weren't already, I'd suggest using fat free Miracle Whip and fat free Hidden Valley Ranch. Also, if you really want bacon for breakfast, substitute turkey bacon for the real thing. Just keep reading the labels to find out where the fat is.
Congratulations! Your second day looks so much better than the first. You can do this, and YOU ARE WORTH THE EFFORT! Hisgal Pat.

Judy,
Congrats on going back to school! I've thought of it several times. At first there was always kids in college, now I have no excuse. I was originally an RN, but I love working with numbers! So, I love my job as bookkeeper for several companies. Will it be full-time? I live in SE MN. I'm about an hour from the Twin Cities, 35 minutes from Rochester and about 1 1/2 hrs from Eau Claire. Eau Claire is just my favorite "treat" for shopping. My husband and I go at least once a year. I love shopping at Farm & Fleet (and my hubby can wander through the tools for hours) because I can find name brand clothes at great prices, and then find the same things at Marshall Fields or Kohl's for much higher prices.
Thanks for the prayers for weight loss:D They are what keep me strong. I'll take all I can get. When I first started losing weight (and would sometimes get so discouraged, because 102 pounds seemed impossible) I relied on prayer constantly. I also reminded myself that scripture says that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, and look at the container I'd given him to reside in!!! God doesn't want me to be overweight and unhealthy, He created me in his perfect image, but I'd abused it with food and overeating. Those were the thoughts I focused on, which got me through. The other thing that really helped was to set the mini-goals. Taking the 102 pounds in 10-15 pound increments, and celebrating when I reached them seemed more do-able than the whole 102 pounds at once.
Are you going to stay off the soda forever? I gave it up for lent (almost 5 weeks now) and I still really want a can I drink lots of water and 1-2 cups of decaf a day. But I have realized that the soda seems to give me cravings when I drink it. I don't miss that part of it. My prayers for your success too! Hisgal Pat

Hi Pat,
Thank you for the words of encouragement and yes, I have given up the coca cola and all brands of pop for good.......I have found in the past if I try to treat myself to one, it turns into having them all the time then. I am kind of like an alcholic when it comes to coca cola, so they are gone forever and for the life of me, I can not figure out why I like them, the last time I gave them up it was 6 weeks before I had one and it tasted like but dirt, but sure enough I started drinking them again. It was and is still very hard for me as I started drinking coca cola at the meer age of 1, my mother back in the 60's didn't know how bad it was and she gave it to us in our bottles as a treat, mind you a very small amount and mixed with water. If she had only known what she was doing (God rest her soul). So needless to say I have been drinking the Coca Cola for 44 years, I want another 44.
As I was growing up I was always tiny, infact until I was 11, I was underweight, I had open heart surgery at the age of 6 for a hole in my right ventricle (ms). At 11, I seemed to put on the correct amount of weight for my age and height, I was bustier than all the other girls, puberty hit me first in my group of friends and playmates. I was never overweight until after I had my 3 girls, they are now 25, 23, and 22, at that time I was 200lbs, well I started loosing weight on the Jenny Craig diet, lost about 50 lbs and then found out I was pregnant again, well had my first son (child no. 4) and lost weight while I was pregnant with him, ending up a total of 140 lbs after he was born, mind you I am only 5'3" and have a very petite frame, even at 218 lbs I wear a size 5 wedding ring, wore a size 4 ring when I was only 120 lbs. Went on another fad diet to loose the last 20 lbs and became pregnant again, with my 5th child, my second son, after he was born went back up to 160lbs, once again diet time, and it was the Opti Fast (yes the one Oprah did), lost 20 lbs and became pregnant again, my 6th child and only weighed 150lbs when he was born. Had lots of complications after he was born and due to that and the fear of getting pregnant again, I put on another 25lbs. By the time my youngest was 3, I was 175lbs, most of it in my middle. Well when my youngest son was 5, I underwent some surgery, which took a turn for the worst and the best as I had a stomach aneriusm that burst while I was on the table and had to opened up to stop the bleeding, I was in cardiac arrest once and had to be revived and had a total of 15 pints of blood pumped into me by the time they were finished, I lost the first 8 pints in 15 minutes. When I went home from the hospital at that time I was 200lbs. Well nothing tasted good except natural foods, I started losing weight and got down to 160lbs and moved to WI with one of my daughters and my boys. Was exercising, back on the fast food, processed food, but maintaining the 160lbs and losing about 1 to 2 lbs a month. Well, my oldest son was killed in a car accident and my other two boys were in critical condition, and I of course turned to food......went to 250lbs, my heaviest ever. My youngest son is now 14 and last year I tried the 6 week body makeover and lost 60 lbs in that 6 weeks, but could not afford to eat the things that were required on the program, and ended up going back up to 220lbs.
Well last Sunday, I pulled out the bands, started the exercises and walking on my breaks at work and decided to watch what I ate to see what would happen, I can't keep looking like I have been 7 months pregnant for the last 14 years, everything seems to keep going on the middle half of me. Why I gave up the coca cola now 9 days ago, not sure, but decided no more. Well since Sunday I have lost 2 lbs, probably water weight, but we will find out on Sunday next week, when I do an official weigh in.
Sorry, I was so chatty, but thought I should tell a little of my own story. There is a divorce, the loss of my parents, a remarriage, and the lose of my younger brother in the whole mix too.
Mostly I am overweight, not because of genes, or medical reasons, but I got lazy and eat incorrectly and don't get enough exercise, my fault no one elses, yes there are plenty of excuses for making the wrong choices and circumstances that helped with those wrong decisions, but in the end it was my choice and I am the only one who can change it. And I want and need to change things as I have 3 wonderful granddaughters (all from my first daughter) to enjoy, they are 1, 2, and 3(almost 4) and my second daughter is pregnant with her first one (hopefully a grandson) and my boys are 16 and 14 and I want to enjoy their lives for the next 40 years or so, can't do it at this weight and the health problems, luckiely only asthma and laziness that it has brought on to me. My blood pressure and cholestrol levels due to good genes are fine.
I will keep you in my prayers as my weight loss buddy.
Thanks again Pat,
Judy:)

Hi all,
Didn't post what I ate last night, got busy and fell into bed exhausted.
Had a great day till dinner, and I let life get in the way and opted for Taco John's, it is similar to a Taco Bell for those of you who don't know, well my calorie intake is not bad, but the ratios and fat intake are terrible, but nothing I can do about it today, so will just have to pick myself up and dust myself off and behave again today.
Breakfast was 1/2 cup of oatmeal w/1 pc of white toast w/2 tsp of peanut butter and 1 cup of skim, no fat milk
Snack was 1 banana
another snack before lunch, my stomach was growling and miserable, I ate 3 saltine crackers
Lunch was Garlic shrimp cooked in a butter(actually tub margarine) sauce w/broccoli, snow peapods, baby corn, and water chestnuts and a Yoplait light yogart
snack was 2 cups of orville redenbauchers butter light microwave popcorn
Dinner (ouch) 2 crispy tacos and a potatoes ole bravo (hashbrowns w/pinto beans, meat, cheese, sourcream and a little bit of tomatoes and black olives) from Taco Johns.
Calories not so awful they were 1,612.20, but protein was only 15%, fat was 39% (yuck, yuck, yuck) and carbs were only 46% and my sodium was really high.

Hi Judy,
Would love to be in your prayers as your weight loss buddy, and I will keep you in mine:D WOW! you have been through it all haven't you? I can see why you mention prayer too. How can a person survive without it? I wonder how many on this site have their lives reflecting the ups and downs too? Mine has been! I don't know if I could even name all the diets I've tried, and that's probably why I'm in this spot now. I've lost and regained the weight so many times....at least with the birth of each of my 3 children, and then many other times in between. And each time it gets harder to lose (Especially now that I'm 50 and getting close to menopause) But, like you, I have finally realized that I made the choices that made me gain the weight. And...only I can make the choices to lose the weight and keep it off. I have to take the responsibility for it. I am struggling today, as it was my weigh in day and the scale was up.:? Good thing I have church tonight and can get recharged! I pray for you to experience all the strength you need to make the best choices you can each day, and we'll be shopping for those new clothes before you know it:D Hisgal Pat

Hi All :D
Thank you Pat.
Today I had the following
Breakfast - 1 pc of peanut butter toast (1 tsp of PB), 1 cup of Milk
snack - 1 banana
snack - 1 orange
Lunch - frozen chicken marsala dinner w/garlic mashed potatoes, yoplait light yogurt
snack - 1 banana
starving when I got home dinner wasn't till later had 1 slice of kraft american 2% cheese
dinner 1 pork chop grilled, 1 bkd potatoe, w/1 tsp of butter, 1 tsp of sour cream, and 1 tsp of shredded cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup of whole kernal corn
total calories 1,246.70, protein 20%, fat 29%, and Carbs 51%
I know I could have cut out some of the fat by not having the butter and sourcream, but had them in moderation, since 1 serving is usually 2 TBSP, and I only had 1 tsp measured out
Not to shabby.
Have a great day

Judy,
Sometimes I can't believe I am a size 12 again! Then I wonder how important I should make weight loss in my life...like I shouldn't let it affect my mood and thinking so much. My goal, after all, is healthy eating. And I am doing that, so maybe I shouldn't get so stressed out over what the scale says. You know, when I was in high school, I was 150 as a freshman and got down to 125 for the rest of my high school years. But, even at 125 and 5'7" I couldn't wear a junior's size 9! I do not have a small or petite frame.
I don't know how long your weight was up in between losing each time, but I have been heavy for years. After you lost weight, would you ever find yourself automatically looking in the larger sizes when shopping? For years, as I got heavier and heavier, I denied that I was as big as I was. And now that I've lost so much weight, when I go shopping I still head to the women's size 24 section! Maybe that's why I regain after I've lost....does it take time for our minds to catch up with our bodies? I still sometimes see my reflection in a store window and don't realize that it's me staring back. I've still got this mental image of me as a size 24. Am I the only one who does that or have you too?
I love the positive connotation of your name:D It soon will be you! Keeping you in my prayers....feel His strength;) Hisgal Pat

:)Hi Pat,
Sometimes, well most of the time, I don't remember shopping in the small section of the store, I haven't been in a size smaller than an 18 for the last 14 years, most of my weight I carry is in my stomach, I mean I have weight all over, but I am an apple, so I joke and say that I am 7 months pregnant for 14 years............but it will be nice when I can shop in the regular sizes and not the plus sizes.
I was only a size 3 all thru highschool and thought I was fat when I was a size 9 after my first daughter, oh to be a size 9 again.
Oh well, I suppose it is always in the self prespective of things that we find out what we complained about, that was just so petty and silly.
I am going to post now.
Have a great day.

:) Hi All,
Time for the posting, didn't do to bad today, ratios look pretty good...........now just to hope that I hold it all down, we have had a stomach bug going around the house, and it seems to be my turn today, hit me after dinner. Yuck:?
Breakfast - 1 pc of 100% whole wheat toast w/1 TBSP of Peanut butter, 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 1 cup of milk
Snack - 1 orange
Snack - 1 Banana
Lunch - 1 grilled pork chop w/green peppers and onions, 1 yoplait yogurt, 1 cup of all natural unsweetened applesauce
snack - 1 grilled cheese sandwich, made w/ 1 tsp of butter, 2 pc's of 100% whole wheat, and 1 slice of 2% kraft american cheese.
Dinner - 1 Pork Chop grilled, heated up in the microwave. Wasn't really hungry.
Total Calories 1,149.9, Protein 27%, Fat 22% and Carbs 51%.
Not to bad today, my calories may be a little low though, but haven't been hungry at all, even seem extremely stuffed after lunch today. So hopefully this will keep working, if I notice the weight is taking longer to come off, I will pick up the calories a bit.
Have a great day all
Judy :)

:) Hi All,
I am a little blue today, ate mostly processed junk food, isn't it funny, I can do well at work, but leave me home for the day and I eat junk, I think I will just have to pack my lunch and snacks for the day, just like when I go to work and only eat those.
Breakfast - 2 small Blueberry Muffins - homemade(w/2 tsps of butter), 4 pc's of bacon cooked in the broiler, 1 cup of milk
Lunch - 1 BLT sandwich w/2 pcs of bacon, on 100% whole wheat bread w/2 tsp of miracle whip
Snack 1/4 cup of microwave light butter popcorn
Dinner 2 Brats on buns w/mustard and onion, 1/2 cup of baked beans, 10 tortilla chips w/2 TBSP of Salsa.
Total calories 1,955.9 Protein 16%, Fat 38% and Carbs 46%. Just awful, but once again, no sodas today only tea w/no sweetner and water.
Tomorrow will be a much better day........yeah yeah.

:) Hi All,
Did better today, but still have the precentages off, at least the calories were down.
Breakfast - 1 2 egg omelet, w/cheese, ham, green peppers, tomatoes, onions and sausage. 2 sausage links and hashbrowns cooked in no fat pam spray.
Snack - 1 apple
Snack - Salsa and Chips
Dinner - Top Round Steak stuffed w/pepper jack cheese, green beans, and pototaes roasted in the oven w/no fat pam spray and parsley and 2 cups of no fat skim milk.
Total calories 1,475.90, protein 27%, fat 35% and Carbs 38%.
Could have done better w/the fat by having egg white omelets, but I don't really care for eggs so much and also not adding the meat to the eggs, but wanted a treat this morning and my hubby made me breakfast.
Have a great day and see you all tomorrow.

Hi Judy,
Weekends are the pits, aren't they? I agree it's much easier to stick to plan during the week, when I am at work. I did OK calorie-wise last weekend...maybe a little low. That's not usually the way it goes! I was so busy, that I mostly grabbed food. The good thing is that it was food that was on my plan.
Now, I'm going to use a little "tough love" here. If we're going to be diet buddies in prayer, I have to say something. I know, that you know, that you made some bad choices. I want you to be around for your husband and children for many years to come, so you need to get this under control and get serious about this:?
Think about Monday....if you were in the position to eat fast food twice that day, what could you have done differently? I went to their websites and educated myself on what was there. A quarter pounder with cheese is 510 cal., 25 g. fat of which 12 is saturated! A order of medium fries is: 380 cal. 20 g. fat of which 4 g. is saturated. I know that you wrote that you only ate 1/2 of each, but look at how many fat grams you ate! Then 2 slices of Meat Lover's pizza from Pizza Hut is: 640 calories, 36 grams of fat of which 12 grams are saturated. What did you do to your blood vessels that day?
Now, I had to look hard to find something relatively healthy on McDonald's menu, but what if you'd had a plain hamburger, the whole thing, with a side salad and one of their low fat dressings? The hamburger is 260 cal., 9 fat grams (3.5 saturated). A side salad is 20 cal. 0 grams fat and the low-fat dressings (2 to choose from) range from 40-60 cal. and 2.5-3 grams fat (no saturated fat). Or a Caesar Salad with grilled chicken is 220 calories, 6 grams fat (3 saturated). I don't think that includes the dressing, but you could use one of the low fat dressings, instead of their Caesar drsg, which is 190 cal. 18 g. fat (3.5 saturated).
Now, Judy, what about the Pizza Hut Pizza? I don't know who you went with, or how accomodating they would be with ordering. But, from looking over Pizza Hut's menu I see they have a new "Fit 'n Delicious" menu. 2 slices of Meat Lover's on the hand tossed crust is 640 calories, 34-36 grams of fat (12-14 g. saturated) The fit n delicious standard choices are 2 slices - ham, pineapple, & diced tomato for 300 calories, 8 g. fat (4 saturated) or 2 slices of chicken, onion, green pepper for 360 calories, 8 g. fat (4 sat) or 2 slices - green pepper, red onion, diced tomato for 280 calories, 7 g. fat (3 sat) You could have even had 4 slices for about the same calories and less than 1/4 the fat!
I hope I'm not sounding like I'm coming down too hard on you here, but I really want you to succeed. I've been there, and I got some encouragement from friends who helped me understand that I had the power to succeed or to sabotage my efforts. Right now I'm doing well and flying high, and I want you to have that feeling too I want you to see the scale make steady progress downwards and feel that wonderful sense of accomplishment, knowing that you are the one who did it...that you made the correct choices to accomplish your goals. Go for it and give it all you've got! You can do this and I am rooting for you and praying for you all the way:D Hisgal

Hi Pat,
Thanks for the harsh words, but and I know any excuse is lame, but out of habit, I ordered the quarter pounder w/cheese meal going thru the drive thru because I was running errands during lunch break, only have a 35 min. one and we can not eat at our desks, except like chips or something we could sneak, so when I realized what I did, I only ate 1/2 of everything, it was to late to take it back. I would get a salad from McDonalds except something they put on it for preservatives sets off my asthma, last time I had one of the salads, I had to be taken to the er from work for a breathing treatment.
The pizza, I ordered to have delivered at home for my kids and their friends, I was going to eat one of my Michelena Gourmet Light dinners, but the pizza drew me in. Bad Bad Bad.
Yes, my fat intake was just awful I know, but at least the calories were low.
I did walk both days on my 15 min. breaks at lunch and still have not given into the coca cola or any other soda's, only water, iced tea and milk.
Thank you for the scolding, that is what this web sight is for and you won't be very happy with my choices tonight, well most of them were good.
Hope you have a great day.
Judy :)

Judy, I know old habits are so hard to break. Thanks for not being upset with me:D You deserve to have that slim body back and I want that so bad for both of us! Pizza is one my weaknesses, but being my hubby has high cholesterol and needs to be on a low-fat diet too, when we do get it, I stop by Papa Murphy's for the De-Lite and get 1/2 canadian bacon for him and 1/2 veggies for me. I should compare the calories, fat, etc between theirs and the lite Pizza Hut version. Good task for me! Maybe someone else will read the post about the McDonald's and Pizza Hut choices and be helped by it. I always make better choices if I check out the nutrition info before I order at a restaurant.
That's scary about your reaction to the salad! My allergic reactions are all to air borne things. The pollen has been very high the last few days and I can feel it!
I'm impressed that you haven't given in to the colas yet. It's been 6 1/2 weeks now without one, and I still really want one! Maybe it's just that I drink so much water, that I want something different? I've seen some write about Crystal Lite, I wonder if I'd like that?
I'm very lucky that I can eat at my desk. I use my lunch break to go to Curves, then eat my salad and mini carrots at my desk while I work. Of course, I don't see any customers. I wouldn't want to have them walk in on me with my mouth full!
Here's to praying that the day comes soon for both of us, when we don't have to count calories or fat, just be able to eat sensibly with only the occaisional splurge. Hang in there and make each day a little better than the last:D Pat

Hi Pat,
Your words were not to harsh. I needed them, so that I am more cautious on what I eat and order, and don't just order out of habit.
I haven't even had a craving for a coca cola yet, and this is really strange, because I usually crave them, when I decide to give them up. I do drink Iced Tea though and I don't sweeten it so maybe that helps some. I am not going to totally cut myself off the caffine, I just don't drink it after 6pm. I do drink about 100 to 150 ounces of water every day..........big water drinker at work and I always have a glass of water with me around the house, I even wake up in the middle of the night and drink about 6 ounces of water. I am suprised I don't live in the bathroom......:D. I have drank the crystal light lemonaid and it isn't bad, but I really don't know what all those artifical sweetners do to you or if they are bad for you or not. I also try and drink 1 to 3 cups of milk every day, of course the skim milk, anything above 1 % also brings on the asthma attacks.
Well, I am going to post, did do a little better today.
Judy :)

Hi All :)
Time to post my eats today, did better today.
Breakfast -1/2 100% whole wheat sara lee bagel, w/1 tsp of cream cheese (no fat), 1 cup of milk
Snack - 1 homemade choco chip cookie
Snack - 1 Banana
Lunch - 3 slices of ham, 1 slice of reduced fat cheddar cheese, baked curly fries (heated in the microwave, soggy............yuck)
Dinner - sliced top round no fat broiled w/jalepeno's, onions, red bell peppers, and mrs. dash mexican seasonings. Pinto beans, and lettuce and tomatoe ( I skipped the tortillas and let everyone else eat those.)(My mouth got extremely hot , so drank lots of milk), 2 cups of skim milk
total calories 1,169.00, protein 25%, Fat 22%, Carbs 53%, Fiber 12.1 Grams, (I forgot to write down the sodium intake.)
I also walked on both of my 15 min. breaks, our office is on the side of a small mountain so we walk around the parking lot and then up hill to the office, so I would say we walk about 2.5 miles per hr uphill, extremely winded when we are done. So thirty minutes of walking brought up how many calories I can take in a day.
According to my 24 hr (7 hrs sleeping) shows that I burn 3584 calories in a 24 hr period, I only ate 1169. That is a deficiet of 2415 (that would be a little more than a lb a day), I can't imagine that with my metabolism that I am going to be able to do that. I will be happy with just 1 to 2lbs a week. We will have to wait and see, I have decided to stay off of the scale till Sunday, (my husband hid it for me) I was weighing myself to much and that will only lead to downfall, from previous experiences.
Well tomorrow will be better.
Have a great day all.
Judy :)

Yeah Judy! You had a really good day Someone on this site suggested having that little treat each day, so you aren't tempted to binge on it later. I think that could be a good idea. I'm not sure that I'm ready to handle that yet, but I might incorporate that later, if I can find that I can handle it.
I was thinking one night, you know, I didn't weigh much less than you this winter. I had reached 189 about mid-February, and now won the office weigh in at 168.6 on Wednesday. You really can do this, Judy! I think I had to get the right mind set, and then the help and encouragement from this site. It's kept me accountable and given me the support I need. I'm so excited and want this for you so badly! Still keeping you in my prayers each day, and sometimes more than once. Hisgal Pat

Hi Pat,
My weekend was ok, didn't keep my dairy, really didn't eat much this weekend, not feeling well on Friday or Sunday........................went fishing all day Saturday...............still queezy to my stomach though, just ate light foods, like crackers and a little itty bitty bit of soup.
Didn't weigh yesterday either, figured since I was sick Friday and Sunday, that what ever I lost from throwing up and not feeling well, would just be put back on...........so will wait till next week to weigh in.
Well, I might get weighed in tomorrow at Curves, I am going in early to join, it is only a few blocks from work and will be able to go in the am to work out before work..........if I wait till after work, will find 101 excuses not to go........
Well, I will talk with you later.
Judy

:) Hi All,
Today was a little better than yesterday, pollen is way to high today, just about killed me during my 2 walks (during my 15 min. breaks), had to hit the albuteral. Calories were a little closer to what I want them at and so were the Protein, Fat and Carb percentages.
Breakfast - 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/2 100% whole wheat bagel w/1 tsp of fat free cream cheese, 1 cup of fat free skim milk
Snack - 1/2 cup of applesauce unsweetened
Snack - 1 1/2 cups of fat free choco pudding (I have been craving chocolate)
Lunch - BBQ chicken dinner Michelena's lean gourmet, 1/2 cup strawberries, 1/2 unsweetened applesauce
Snack - 1 golden delicious apple
Dinner - 1 grilled ground chuck cheese burger on a bun w/tomatoe (1 slice), 1 onion slice, ketchup and mustard, 1/2 cup of canned corn, 24 tortilla chips w/salsa
Total calories 1367, protein 21%, fat 15%, carbs 61%, fiber 20.7 grams, Sodium 2798.
All in all not a bad day............and tomorrow morning I am joining curves, maybe I can handle one of there work outs with out an asthma attack......doc said it was a good program and he recommends it for me. By the end of the summer, I hope to be race walking though..........if my asthma allows it, it is induced by exercise, but hopefully it will be well on the way to getting better by the end of summer, the more exercise, the better it should get per the doc.
Have a great one.

Judy,
I haven't been on the forum a lot lately, but when I get to log on there are a few people I like to check to see how they are doing. And, I am so impressed with how you are documenting your meals and making healthier decisions. And your post that you are adding some exercise is awesome! You have made a lot of changes since your first post, you should really be proud of yourself!
Always, Snow (yes, even in spring and summer )

Alright, Judy! You've had a couple of good days:D
Thanks for the encouraging words over the Mexican restaurant! I've thought it over, and I'm OK with it. I can't go through life avoiding all restaurants and social gatherings. It's just that I want to stick with this plan to a T and get the weight off NOW:? I am so impatient! It took years to put on and I want it off tomorrow. How human is that? I've got a wedding this weekend, and the weekend in Eau Claire over the 28th and I have to learn to deal with it. It might set me back a little, but I'll do the best I can:D Thanks for the support!
I am so excited about you joining Curves I love it there. I think back to my first visits.....and look to the present....and can't believe the progress I've made. I've improved so much on every machine...when I first started, I couldn't do anything on the recovery stations without panting for breath And my heartrate was way over the 60% mark after the easy machines! I love that it's a continuous workout, I don't have to wait for a machine or take time to change weights. I determine the kind of workout I have by how hard I push myself and how many reps I do. I've never felt sore.....and if I've had muscle spasms or tightness when I walk in the door, they've ALWAYS felt better by the time I left. And I can't believe the inches I've lost!
I think we were meant to be soul-mates! We both have daughters born on April 16th ! And all the other things in common! How wild! I'm glad I found you on this site. Thanks for the prayers! I'm sure they were part of keeping yesterday under control (somewhat). Guess I can't expect to keep my fat under 15% all the time, can I. Sometimes I expect a lot out of me.....thanks for keeping me grounded;)
You are my inspiration to give up the diet colas, Judy. I almost grabbed one on Sunday, and I thought to myself, "No, if Judy can do this, so can I!" Thanks!
So, here's to a lower pollen count, SOON! Before I scratch my eyes out or have to run out for another box of tissues In prayer, Hisgal Pat

Hi All,
Well, I don't have my total food intake today yet, haven't had dinner yet, but I think I did well over all.
Signed up with Curves today, and also did the circuit, went thru it twice like you are suppose to, it felt so good to work out, my arms are feeling the most, I have always had strong legs. But oh my the body fat measurement..................AAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!! Scary, well it will only get better. Knew I was obese, but never thought that bad, almost 45% fat, how awful.......I was thinking more like 35%..........well, it will get there soon.
I will post my measurements and weight and foods later.
Thanks Snow for the words of encourgement, glad to hear from you.
Thanks Pat, and yes, I think we were meant to be soul-mates too.............and everyday without a soda gets easier and easier..........I am really proud of that, it was my biggest downfall.......
Talk with you later.
Judy :)

HI All,
Well today wasn't too bad, I had the following:
Breakfast - 1 100% whole wheat bagel w/2 tsp of fat free cream cheese, 1 cup of skim milk
Snack - 1 1/2 cups of fat free chocolate pudding
Lunch - Michelinas Manicotti, fat free yogurt, 1 snack pack of applesauce(unsweetened)
Snack - 1/2 medium sized banana
Dinner - 2 slices of Tombstones sausage pizza, 2 cups of skim milk
Total calories 1513, protein 21%, Fat 18%, Carbs 61%, Fiber 15g, Sodium 2986 (way to high)
Everything is looking pretty good except the sodium intake and that was from the pizza, but we only had pizza in the freezer and nothing else tonight, at least I stayed away from the pepperoni pizza, higher in fat and even more sodium.
Started Curves today, did the circuit twice and the stretching, noticed that my worst area is my arms, they don't get much exercise, legs aren't so bad.
I am going to be brave and post my measurements and my weight on the curves scale which weighs 4 lbs higher than mine, but that is ok, that is what I am going to weigh on from now on, every Wed. Here goes..........................
Weight 214 lbs - Body Fat 45.4, weight of fat on body approx. 97# (how disgusting is that)
Bust 48 inches, waist 47 1/2 inches, abdomen 53 inches, hips 50 1/2 inches, thighs 27 inches, arms(upper) 15 1/2 inches.
Well, it will be one month before I get officially weighed and measured again, hopefully we see great improvements. I will unofficially weigh myself each Wed. and will post that weight.
My mini goal 10lbs by May 19th. Hopefully at least 1 inch off everywhere, hopefully 3 inches off my abdomen.
My weight by Curves:

My weight at home:

Hope you all have a great night..........will see you tomorrow.
Judy :)

Hi Judy:)
It's a reality check, isn't it? Sure was for me last year, when I joined Curves. The fun part is seeing the progress I make on the circuit....how each month is easier and my heart rate is going down to a more normal range! And I love when I see the total number of pounds and inches that I've lost. Was the asthma OK with the excercise? It's nice to go at your own pace!
I haven't been keeping track of the calories burned. I just haven't had time to start popping those activities in the calculator. I use the RMR & BMR range, and reduced it by 15% for my target calorie range. And being I don't consider myself sendentary, I used the active multiplier.
Congratulations on such a big, courageous move toward good health!
Pat

Hi Pat,
Thank you for the kind words. Went and worked out at Curves again this morning, did the full 30 min (twice around the circuit) and of course streched afterwards. The asthma was great, I hit my inhaler right before I start the circuit. So far my target heart rate has been right at 70%, the mark they want us to be at. My arms are really feeling it though, didn't realize they were so week. I am going to be going to Curves in the mornings, that will best, then I can still do things with my family at night, and I don't like getting home at 630pm.

Hi All,
Today's list of foods.
Breakfast - 1/2 cup of oatmeal, 1/2 100% whole wheat bagel w/fat free cream cheese, 1 cup of milk.
Snack - 1 cup of fat free chocolate pudding
Lunch - Chicken Fried rice dinner, 1 fat free yogurt, 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce and 1 Cocoa Kisses Cookie (don't have calories for this cookie, could not find it, so my totals are not totally accurate)
Snack - 1 Banana
Snack - 1/2 orange
Dinner - 2 chicken breasts baked (on broiler pan), boiled potatoes mashed white(1/2 cup), 1/2 cup of cooked carrots, sliced and had about 1/2 cup of fat free chicken gravy. A salad of 2 cups of lettuce, 2 slices of cucumber and 1 slice of tomatoe w/ 1 tbsp of fat free catalina dressing.
Totals (not totally accurate, like I said did not have calories or stats for the Cocoa Kisses Cookie) 1667 Calories, 25% Protien, 10% Fat, 65% Carbs, 20.7g of Fiber, and Sodium was 2921mg.
All in all not to bad of a day. I would like to see my carbs down some and protien up a little more, I seem to do better on a higher protien diet, need to switch it just a little and maybe take in about 30 to 35 % protien. Any ideas?
Have a great one.

Judy,
I went to see my chiro yesterday (stepped over the cat and bounced down the steps on my back-ouch!) and we got talking about a book she read on blood types and foods. I am A-neg and according to that book, I would do better on a more plant based diet. She is "O" and supposedly does better on a higher protein, meat type diet. Don't know if there is anything to it, but maybe you do need more protein?
Another thing my chiro really advocates is that each mini-meal have some protein in it, even if it's only a couple of raw nuts. Pat

Starkist chunk light tuna in water - calorie for calorie is a pretty even swap with a medium sized bannana (90 cals) but has 19g protein in a 3 oz serving.:)

Hi Pat, That is funny about your chiro, I am an "o" also, O negative infact. I found out that I loose better with protien from a diet my dr. put me on to test for diabetes, I would test real high and then boderline, well the diet was high in proteins and lower in carbs, and he had me stay away from white potatoes, because they act like sugar, he said, I lost 25 lbs on that diet in just 3 weeks, but it was only for the testing of the diabetes. Well my blood sugar levels even offed and I felt better, but a very unrealistic way of eating for a long period of time, even he said so. Not enough nutrients and minerals and vitamins.
I am border line diabetic, whatever that means.............that is why I want to eat a better and loose weight so I don't end up that way.
Did good today except for dinner.............McDonalds keeps creeping up on me.................
Breakfast - 1/2 cup oatmeal, 1/2 100% whole wheat bage w/1 tsp of fat free cream cheese, 1 cup skim milk
Snack - 5 Strawberries
Lunch - Frozen spagetti w/meatball dinner, 1 yogurt fat free, 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce, 2 strawberries
Snack - 1 Banana
Snack - 5 strawberries (they were so good and so sweet........mmmmmmmmm)
Dinner - OUCH!!!!!!! - McDonalds Quarter Pounder w/cheese, med. french fry, and iced tea.........OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Calories 1816, Protien 16%, Fat 27% OUCH!!!!!!!!!!, Carbs 57%, Fiber 24grams, Sodium 2820mg.
Tomorrow is Saturday, am acting just like I have to go to work. Going to eat right.
I did go work out today again at Curves for 30 min. (2xaround), heart rate is ranging btwn 65-70% which is good, so burning those calories.
Still no sodas for me..............yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
