Hey John thanks, you're doing good too man, keep up the good work.  The race is on.

Mid week and the scale has not moved.  Staying around 1500 to 1700 calories per day, according to myfitnesspal I should be around 2k calories per day and still lose 2 lb/week.  Sure I am not accounting for all of the calories I am eating, but with a 300 cal buffer I would think I would be losing more, will wait to see what the end of the week brings.  Even though I have not lost much weight over the past couple weeks I have noticed my stomach is getting smaller, have not been measuring but is noticeably smaller.

Way to go James, you have done great. It's nice to see you can track your changes, not just by the scale but other ways as well...a smaller stomach...can't argue with that.

Thanks Hiker, yes it is good and motivating to see and feel the changes.

Weekly weigh in = 273.2 another week, another pound.  Can't complain about a steady pound per week loss, but really need to be closer to 2 pounds per week right now if I am going to reach my goal.  Maybe this is just a bit of a stall, body adjusting, whatever, hopefully I can get things moving a bit faster over the next few weeks.

Great stuff. My experiences tell me that it won't be a linear 1lb per week. I often have a 2lb + drop and then a no change week.
Your doing great, hang in there.

Have gotten off to a good start this week, exercising every day, keeping calories under control, not eating too much junk.  If I can keep this up a few more days should see good results on the scale.  Hope to be much better than the past 3 weeks.

Tried something new today, yoga.  It is one of many programs on the exercise game I have for the XBox Kinnect.  Have never tried yoga before but had always heard that it was hard.  Have to admit that it is pretty tough especially with my lack of ballance.  Will try to continue to incorporate some yoga in with my daily exercise/workout, should really help me out not only with weight loss but ballance as well which is something I really need to work on.

Weekly weigh in = 270.3  Was really hoping to see more of a loss but happy that I finally lost more than a single pound in one week.  Birthday is middle of April, goal is to be below 250 by then, have my work cut out for me.

Did really good this past week, eating below 2000 net calories each day, got in some good exercise 7 days straight.  However, yesterday I basically hit the wall, completely ran out of energy, was extremely hungry all morning then basically crashed yesterday afternoon.  By 10am had already eaten all the food I had taken to work for lunch and snack plus dug into my reserve stash and even hit the vending machine all before lunch.  Not to mention probably close to 2 gallons of water trying to keep from eating more.  Not sure if I over did the exercise, not eating enough or not eating the right foods to get the energy I need.  Probably a combination of all the above plus a lack of sleep (transition from night to day-shift).  Will have to research foods that give an energy boost.

Eating over the weekend was good, nothing crazy, however did drop off the exercise wagon, hard to get in exercise around a 12 hr shift.  Will start back the exercise today.  I did start a new challenge today, the 100 pushup challenge.  Kinda took it easy on myself for day 1 but think I will push myself a little harder on day 2 of the program, just do not want to overdo it and get real sore and not want to continue.

Did you ever find time to research foods that give an energy boost?
I'm curious what you may have found.
I know of some supplements that boost energy, but I would like to know of some foods that do as well.

The ones that I do know of are fermented foods - like vinegar, and there are other fermented foods that boost energy, but I don't eat too many of them.
Also, probably foods that are high in B vitamins.  Bee pollen is suppose to boost energy.  It is very high in b vitamins.
Seaweeds are high in minerals and have some iodine in them.
Molasses can give you energy, but I would suggest to use it in moderation.  It has a lot of minerals, which can be good, but if you are already high in iron then you need to be careful as molasses is rich in iron.  It's also high in potassium and I think I had too much of it and I got a little dehydrated and it lowered my blood pressure.  I still plan on eating it occasionally, but not everyday.

I get hungry like that when dieting sometimes.  Could you have been dehydrated or had low blood pressure?  I was wondering if I get extremely hungry sometimes because my body is lacking in a certain nutrient and sends me messages to "refuel now!"  And the feeling of fatigue combined with it makes sense.  I think this last time that happened to me my electrolytes were off and I needed both salt and carbs to help me hydrate.

Hi Sassy, I did a quick search for high energy foods and basically found a list of foods that I am currently eating - vegetables, nuts, yogurt, eggs, beans, fruit and coffee or tea.  There are several articles out there about high energy foods but they all have basically the same list of foods with slight variations (one even listed red bull, surprised I did not see snickers bars on that one).

I think the real reason for my funk last week was the fact that I was making the transition from night shift to day shift, major lack of sleep and possible dehydration.

I do occasionally take apple cider vinegar (a few spoonfuls with a spoonful of honey mixed in hot water) but never thought of it as an energy drink, just makes me feel better if I can stay on it for several days and also seems to suppress my appetite at times.

What I thought was constipation turned out to be a stomach virus.  Will hold off on the exercise until this passes but I think I will try to continue on with the pushup challenge I started.

Thanks Sassy, I am better now.  That was a bad one, hit me hard and fast, but was gone pretty fast also.  Got my appetite back yesterday and boy did it come back.  Think I did pretty good though, do not think I over did it too much (so far).  Will see the results on my weekly weigh in tomorrow.

I started a pushups challenge this week, one I read about in the challenges area from a couple years ago.  Thought it would be a good challenge and hoped to get a few challengers to push myself and each other.  One week in and no challengers.  Many people have viewed the challenge but none have joined.  This site really has dropped off.  Oh well, I refuse to let the lack of interest stop me.  I joined this site to lose weight and improve my health, not just talk about it.  Will continue the push up challenge on my own but seems silly to continue posting about it in the challenge area if there is no one to challenge.

Weekly weigh in = 269.8  Was actually down to 268.0 yesterday but ate dinner with my parents last night.  Mom is a great cook in her own right, but last night she pulled out one of my Grandmothers old recipes for salmon croquettes (basically crab cakes made with salmon).  Now, I do not know how they do it, but I have never had salmon croquettes that I liked other than the ones my Mother and Grandmother make and would take theirs over the best crab cakes you could offer me any time.  And those things are like crack to me, forget leftovers, once everyone is done eating I will clean the pan out.  I actually showed a little restraint and left a few so I know not to go back over until after lunch so that I will not be tempted to eat the rest.  Awe screw it, I will just have to work a little harder next week, I know what I am doing to myself for lunch.

Glad that I did not have to pay for the flu shot I got this year (work provides them for us).  Got hit with a pretty bad cold yesterday, zapped all of my energy and feeling really lousy.  If I remember correctly, this is the third time this year (since getting the shot) that I have been sick not counting last weeks stomach virus.  This rarely happens to me, usually just one bad cold each winter then good for another year.  Starting to wonder if these flu shots are really doing any good.  Could it really just be a ploy by the government (and drug companies) to make us spend more money on medicines?  Could this be the governments plan to boost the economy?  No wonder that Walgreens keeps that flu shot sign out front year round, yea, come on in and get your shot, and while you are here, go ahead and load up on cold medicine.

So, no exercise in over a week now.  Really got to get back on track.  too many distractions and excuses.  No more excuses, starting....tomorrow....maybe.

Weekly weigh in = 264.6  that's 5 pounds this week thanks to a nasty stomach virus that would not give up.  Hope that I am over it now, of course I thought I was over it last week, will just have to see what happens next week.  Other than the pushups challenge, no exercise in nearly two weeks now, have got to get back to work on that.

Total loss for February right at 10 lbs.  Will set my goal for March at 254.  Hope that I can get there without the aid of an illness.

Weekly weigh in = 265.4 up about a pound this week.  I am actually OK with this.  After two weeks of a relentless stomach bug I finally got back to normal.  Also partly due to work schedule this past week did not get any exercise in.  Will try to get back on track this week.

Feel as if I have completely lost my energy and motivation.  Got sidetracked a few weeks ago and just can't seem to get re-focused.  Right now I am just hoping to maintain and not gain during this funk.

Hi James! I am all too familiar with that problem. When something interupts my routine...I completely fall off the wagon. This is my third time returning to my CPH diary. So far, it looks like you are having great success with your weight loss. Hope you get back on that horse and continue with it. :horse:

Weekly weigh in = 263.6 Wow, nearly 2 pounds this week. That is really a surprise to me based on my lack of activity this week. Now to keep the momentum going for next week as I have a little to make up for the past couple weeks. One positive note I have reached a milestone so to speak, as of today I am down 30 lbs since Thanksgiving (closing in on 20 lbs since beginning of year).

Elevator - thanks for the encouragement. Routine (or lack of routine) has been my downfall for many years. That is a big reason that I am here, trying to give myself some form of accountability and to stay focused on what I am doing.

Weather forecast for today = High over 80.  Wow, guess I overlooked spring waiting for winter, straight into summer.

Feel like I am doing good this week, eating good, keeping calories under control, but still need to get back to exercising, time to stop talking about it and just do it.

Weekly weigh in = 263.0  at least it is in the right direction.  Did eat at a Mexican restaurant last night, dang those chips and salsa.  And that was after frying up some fish for lunch that I caught yesterday morning fishing with my Dad. Guess I should have weighed in yesterday.  Next weekend is my daughters 5th birthday.  Need to work hard this week to make sure the scale does not go up.

Summer got here quick.  Highs over 80 for at least 4 days in a row now.  Still no "exercise", but have been busy with yard work as well as continuing to work on some other ongoing projects.  Started planting my garden over the weekend with the help of my daughter, gambling that we do not get a late freeze.  Now I have something to do every day for the next 4 to 5 months - fight the weeds.  Eating over the weekend was pretty good after the indulgences on Friday.  Need to do really good over the next few days to make up for the coming weekend.

Weekly weigh in = 262.2  not much of a loss but at least it is a loss.  Getting behind on my goal, really need to work harder to get to where I need to be.  Have been doing a lot of yard work and gardening this week.  Going out of town this weekend to celebrate my daughter's 5th birthday.  Will have to work hard to show a loss for next week.

Huge weekend eating wise, ate two meals per day Friday through Sunday at restaurants.  Meals over the weekend included hamburger (twice), a reuben sandwich, fried catfish, and a huge breakfast Sunday morning.  These meals included all the fixings including fried potatoes, onion rings, potato chips, and a few vegetables.  Have not gotten on the scale to see the damage yet.  Will try to keep calories low this week to make up for it.

After the big weekend I was up to 266, (up about 4 lbs) after a few days of keeping cals low and a rough night/morning at work, am now back down to 262.  Hope to keep cals under control the remainder of the week and hopefully will see a good number on the scale on Saturday.  Would be nice to break the 260 mark.  Will be well shy of my goal for march but would be good to get a good start for April.

Weekly weigh in = 260.4,  had actually dropped below 260 a couple days ago, not sure why it is back up today.  May have been the fish I ate yesterday, was a bit too salty.  Was really hoping to be below 260.  Will set a goal of 250 for April.

OK, it is spring time, time to get up and get out and enjoy the weather (before it gets too stinking hot to enjoy being outside).  Also time to kick my weight loss effort up a few notches.  I have decided to update my goal for April.  My birthday is on the 15th, I know I will be enjoying that weekend.  So my new goal is to be below 250 by my birthday.  I have enough projects in the works to keep me busy, just need to add some daily exercise and really watch my eating over the next two weeks to get there.  I know I can do it, just need to stay focused on the goal and keep pushing.  I started the year off good but am not happy with my progress over the past month.  I need a good swift kick in the butt to get back on track.

James, I know you can reach your goal before your birthday, like you said it is a good time of year to get out there. Of course when I saw that I checked where you are from...to my way of thinking it's too hot always in AL to exercise. LOL, I am just not good with the heat, normal people would love all but the hottest part of summer in your neck of the woods. Enjoy the weather and get on out there.

thanks for stopping by my diary and offering encouregment and who knows...those pink boots may come back someday .

Hey Hiker, yes our summers are long and at times unbearable, but our winters are short and sparse.  I will take the heat over the cold.

Not going to make my goal of 250 by the weekend, but still pushing. With an exception of Sunday have been doing pretty good eating wise. Have been going out for walks trying to keep my daily total over 5 miles. Have also been doing a lot of work outside enjoing the warm spring weather while I can. I do need to finish the week at least below 255, I would consider that at least a little bit of a victory, and still have the chance to get below 250 before the end of the month.

Weekly weigh in = 255.3  far from where I wanted to be this week but still headed in the right direction.  Did go out to a charity benefit last night, lots of good food and beer.  Tonight will be Cooter Browns for BBQ ribs and more good beer to celebrate my birthday.  Will weigh the damage on Monday and start again.

Thanks for the birthday wishes John and Sassy.

I had a great weekend that included time with my family, fishing with my Dad, and way too much eating.  I am a bit too embarrassed to admit how much weight I gained over the weekend, but I can say that I thoroughly enjoyed each and every one of them.  Now time to get back on track and back to loosing.  My goal for this week is to not let the past weekend turn into a net gain.  My target is to be at or below my last weigh in by Saturday.  Will be a tough task, but the work I did over the past two weeks should help me to get back on track and quickly shed to extra weight I gained over the weekend.

Hey thanks Coach and John.  I saw those pics John, my mouth is still watering.  Will be trying that salmon salad soon.

Doing pretty good so far this week.  The extra weight has been dropping pretty quick as expected, however I do have a long way to go.  Really dug a deep hole for myself this time.  Have managed to walk a total of at least 5 miles each of the past two days and have kept calories under control.  Will try to get in a little extra exercise starting tomorrow.

As of this morning I have dropped about half the weight I gained over the past weekend.  Would be a lot easier if there wasn't a cake sitting on the kitchen counter.  Still have a long way to go to drop all of the extra weight by Saturday.  Aside from the cake, I have been doing pretty good on eating this week, have also been pretty active all week, not so much exercising, just busy work keeping me moving throughout the day.

Weekly weigh in = 258.4  Not quite back to last weeks weight.  I blame it on the birthday cake (should have put it in the freezer) and last night pizza.  Need to keep pushing, need to get below 255 by next weekend.

Weekly weigh in = 257.6  Not happy with my results this week.  Have got to turn this around.  Do not know why I have gotten stuck this week.  Have not really eaten anything bad, have kept calories pretty much in check.  Will try to get in more fresh vegetables this week, will also push to get in more exercise.  I did pretty good the first few months of this year but seem to have stalled out in April.  Need to have a good showing for May.  Will set a goal of 245 for the end of May.

James, great attitude! We do all get stuck and is so frustrting when you are doing everything right and it isn't working. It will though just hang in there. Sometimes when I am stuck for a couple of weeks I find if I change what I am eating up a little it helps. Like for me I eat very little meat so believe it or not a burger can do the trick, not sure why but it does work for me.

Thanks Hiker, I also have noticed that an occasional big meal (hamburgers, pizza, most any restaurant meal) seems to help.  Will usually see a temporary gain in weight that is quickly lost along with additional weight.  Can't really explain it but it works (in moderation).

I think I may have identified part of my problem.  I have been trying to target foods and snacks high in protein.  Just noticed though (using my fitness pal) that even though I am targeting higher protein foods that the percentage of protein intake has actually decreased.  One of the things that I have been eating (increasingly more of) is a variety of protein bars.  You would think that something labeled a a "protein bar" would have a majority of calories from proteins, not fat and carbs.  Have found this not to be true.  Some of the "protein bars" that I have been eating lately have a majority of calories from fat, not protein, and more grams of carbs than protein.  The labels prominently display the "protein grams" however by looking at the nutrition label (fine print) these bars have much larger quantities of fat and carbs (including much sugar).  So, time to start paying closer attention to the nutrition labels and ignoring the info displayed on the front of the package.

I guess this just reinforces the importance of staying away from processed foods and eating more natural fruits and vegetables.
