Hi Hiker..............the corn feed at my in-laws...........corn on the cob was the center of attention..........we all brought other food, potluck, but most people just ate a lot of sweet corn.
Sunday night, I had just one more meal, at the Ckn BBQ
Meal: 1.5 pcs grilled chicken, 2 cobs sweet corn, 1/3 pat butter, cole slaw (theirs is yummy, tastes like oil, vinegar and a hint of sugar)

Meals for Monday, August 16
Meal 1: (2P) 3 thin slices swiss cheese, 1/3 oz. almonds
Meal 2: (2P) 1/2 c. cottage cheese, 3 slices deli ham
Meal 3: (5V) lettuce, spinach, cukes, tomato, gr. pepper, black olives, ff honey mustard
Meal 4: (2P) 1/2 sm can baked beans, 1/3 oz. almonds
Meal 5: (4V) I ate the leftovers from the lunch salad from Subway. Too bad they are sooooo expensive, I'd get those everyday for my veggie meals
Meal 6: (2P) salmon burger, cod
I am getting kinda tired of all this protein! Not sure how long I can take this. Also, stopped and picked up some Benefiber..........a little contipated feeling.
It was a MONDAY! And TTOM started today It's been over 5 weeks since the last one, and I was so hoping that it wasn't coming back! No wonder I was so crabby yesterday, and incredibly tired!
Well, even as hectic as today was (AND IT WAS!) at least I got to my chiro appt. and my back feels much better. I need to go home and ice it! And I also took time to stop and order new glasses. Mine have been driving me nuts. I haven't read a fiction book for 1 1/2 years.......I think I just haven't picked one up because it's too much work to focus on the pages.........and I love to read! But now it was even bothering me more at my desk, and at home. Time to give in and spend the big bucks!

Last night was rough, didn't sleep well, my back still hurt even after the chiro adjustment. Finally got up at 4:30 a.m. to ice it. Then a hot shower, and now it's feeling somewhat better. Then a big mug of coffee to keep me awake at work today!
Hubs is working on the next steps for our geo-thermal/family rm addition. Took the loan application to the bank, and started the drawings/details for the building permit. I feel a bit better about the decision, now that I know the loan rate would be 3.7% and it would be a payment that we could handle even if it's only my paycheck, and it would be paid off in 10 years, if we didn't pay any extra on the principal........sooner if we did. It would be our only monthly payment, beside the telephone, electric, cell phone and MiFi. Now comes the work! I've been trying to get the house in good/clean shape, for when the appraiser comes. So much I've let slide because we are busy and gone all the time! Good incentive to do it!
Scale was good to me this morning! Even with TTOM and feeling bloated, and the worst cramps that I've had in a long time. I want to curl up and go back home to bed.
Today I am taking a longer lunch break and going out to my in-laws for their first 80th b-day party. I should be able to work that meal into my schedule. But, tomorrow (Wed) night is our work Christmas party. That means a few drinks, and the fruit will be about the only thing I can work into the plan...........well, the broasted chicken too, if I take the skin off. Too bad that's day 10, and I want to weigh in the next morning.
Thursday and Friday should be OK, but then Saturday is a family reunion, and Sunday is the big 80th b-day party for the in-laws. Maybe we will be too busy working/serving to eat much? Not sure if I'm going to continue eating this way after Wed. or take a break. I am finally getting pretty used to the "no starchy carbs" thing. Although I've had those cobs of sweet corn, and then the 1/4 c. stuffing that was in the pork chop on Sat. night. I'm leaning toward just starting over with Day 1 on Thursday, then do my best over the weekend. I don't think there are any "occasions" next week, so might just continue on Monday, through the week. That would make a Saturday, Day 10. We have a party on the next day (Sunday), which could be my break day. We'll see........

| HIsgal, boy are do you ever have a lot of challenges this through this weekend. Christmas party in August?? I have to admit I never heard of that, my company has it in January but August is a different way to do it. Sounds like fun. Enjoy all of your activities and don't worry about a little cheat here and there, you can correct it next week.

HI Hiker! Amazing month! What a challenging time it's been.
The owner of the business I work for has a lovely house, with an in ground pool, and the past couple of years we've had a catered meal at his home. Some Christmas' get really busy! We've tried this for a few years.......mostly cause my manager wanted it moved away from Christmas, I think. It's kinda cool though, and we dress up for Christmas in the summer! Can't wait to wear my Christmas jewelry tomorrow night!
Did pretty well at the b-day party this afternoon. I took 2 thin slices of roasted pork (yeah pork roast isn't on the list, is it?), but it's protein. And about 3/4 c. of watermelon, and 3/4 c. of cantaloupe, and a serving spoon full of potato salad. It was homemade by the caterer........not boughten. Very good! Can't believe I didn't go back for a whole serving! Us kids ate at the end, after serving the food, and there weren't any baked beans left, or I'd have taken a few of those too. Skipped the other salads and the cake/ice cream. Brought water to drink. I feel pretty good about it!

You've done awesome with this diet Pat! Way to go! Yay!
I hope you are having a nice summer and enjoying everything.
Oh and good luck with your appraisal. I didn't think ours was very fun, but it was during a stressful time.
I've been thinking of you, even when I'm too busy to post. We had our power go out several times over the weekend too, so even the short times I was home, I couldn't use the computer. Funny how that happens.

You are doing so well, Pat!! Especially with all the things you've got goin' on! Hope your back feels better, too! And one of these days, I also have to spring for some new glasses. I am totally dreading it because I spent so much one these alone!

Thanks Sassy and Scoobs It doesn't feel like I've done so well, but that's probably because I feel like I'm making exceptions so often. In just a few hours, I've had things come up for Thurs. night and Friday night, and maybe next Friday night. And I'd kinda been hoping the hubs and I could go out on Sat. the 28th.......our 35th anniv. is actually the 30th, but that's a Monday night.
Well at least the scale did move..........I'd just like to have it drop to about 145
I didn't even ask the price of the glasses The last pair was $650 I'm blind as a bat without them.....so the lens would be really thick, and heavy on my nose. So, I get a special lens that they make thinner, but it's pricey. And I get the "no lines" for my bi-focals, cause I'm vain. And I get them coated with an anti-glare, so it's easier when I'm at work and on the computer so much, and I have the edges polished 'cause I think it looks better. But, I guess I can think of it this way..........the last pair I had for over 3 years.......that's about $.83/day to be able to see. I should have a fund for my next pair of glasses, and stick a dollar in it every day!
You know, Sassy, it's kinda funny. I work part-time doing the bookkeeping for an appraiser, but I don't really know what they do when they come to your house. I hear him set up appts. to go to peoples houses. I just figured I better have it cleaned up, in case it would be the guy I work for. Would be embarrassing to have him come into my house like it usually looks. Told the hubs he needs to start picking up after himself......ALL THE TIME! I just wish I had some free time to work on the cleaning.........and some DEEP CLEANING!
Well, better bop up a few entries, and finish posting today's food.......and plan tomorrow's foods. I hope to stay legal until we get to the party tomorrow night.......then see how close I can come. The boss asked what we wanted to drink, so he could have it on hand. I told him a Bloody Mary. I remember that vodka was one of the alcohol's allowed on Atkins, so it must be lower in sugar? The rest is tomato/veggie juice based. Some mixes have HFCS, but I don't have control over the brand. Anyway, I can eat the chicken and take the skin off.......and there will be fresh fruit. We will see how strong I can be.
Good night all!

Being able to see, is soooo worth it! I mean truly, what is the alternative? The days that I take Schizandra berry it helps me see better. I've been thinking about this. I think my eyes get blurry because of pressure or an imbalance in my fluids, because I've read that schizandra berry helps regulate your fluids and helps with blood pressure. I don't have high blood pressure though - in fact it's always been low. It's worth it for me to take it just so that I can see better though.
Since hubs doesn't have any work at the moment he is helping me clean house. I was thinking of you while we cleaned. My house really needs some deep cleaning too. Last night my daughter was over to use my fax, and we were both sitting in the living room and watched in horror, as this huge, multicolored spider slowly descended on a web from the ceiling. You should have seen the way he came down. He had two legs poised out to the sides and descended with attitude and ... I daresay, flair! We watched him move slowly and once he landed I was ready and stomped on him. He looked so exotic, he could have been poisonous.
Yeah, I really need to do some deeeeep cleaning! LOL

First of all, Sassy's spider talk just scared the heck outta me!
And wow Pat, your glasses were way more than mine; I think mine's around 3-4 years old now? Time flies. But my sight wasn't that bad (at THAT time anyway) as I just had trouble reading. I also got the no-line bifocals, the no-glare lenses, and even the transitions lenses so I didn't need sunglasses. But I think mine were just a tad under $400 back then - so I should NOT complain!!

My daughter has very bad eyesight. Even with glasses she can't see super well. So she needs those really expensive lenses as well. Also she just started wearing contacts which also require a special (more expensive) material to make. So we were thrilled when my husband's insurance picked up a really good vision plan. They pay 90% of everything every other year. My husband and I finally went and got glasses for ourselves. We both needed them but since we were able to pass the vision test for driving we just pushed it down on the priority list. I joke with my husband that finally having glasses is like seeing the world in high def

| Our insurance will cover about $350, but there's still a chunk of change, IMO. I think it's every other year on his policy. I'm sure it's the "blind as a bat" feature of my eyesight that makes those lens' so pricey to start with. The frames were about $200.....the place I go isn't a discount one, but it's a locally owned store (which I like to support) but this guy fits a pair of glasses like nobody else I've tried. They are so comfy and fit forever, without an adjustment hardly ever!

So, better post my food on "Christmas"
Wed. August 18
Meal 1: (2P) Egg Beaters, blue and cheddar cheese sprinkles
Meal 2: (2P) 2 slices deli ham, 1/3 c. cottage cheese
Meal 3: (4V) organic baby romaine, 1 radish, 1/4 red bell pepper, 2 green onions, 2 Tbsp ff drsg.
Meal 4: (3V) mushroom slices, 1/4 red bell pepper, 2 radishes
Meal 5: (2P) pepper jack cheese slices, deli ham, flat pretzels, cauliflower
Meal 6: (2 mixed) 2 pcs chicken with skin small spoon of cole slaw, fresh fruit, 3 Bloody Mary's.......2 of them virgin, with dill pickle spears and olives
Should have weighed in this morning before I ate breakfast! These pants are feeling looser and the rings are swinging around on my fingers......that always drives me nuts!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, I updated my last 2 meals above to reflect what I ate at the " Christmas" party. Of course, I didn't follow the BC plan exactly.........I ate the skin on the chicken, which I didn't plan on doing. But, on the up side........I didn't take any potato salad, or a white bun or that decadent chocolate frosted to-die-for brownie! And I only had vodka in the first Bloody Mary.......the other 2 I just drank the tomato mix, with pickle and olive. And I left the white crackers and Cheetos alone for apps, and had a few slices of cheese and ham and my fav cauliflower. All in all, I was very happy with how I handled the party for work. I could have pigged out on lots of food I shouldn't eat, but didn't.
I'm sure the scale won't be good to me in the morning! I've been so thirsty since I got home........I checked the Bloody Mary mix bottle...........690 mg sodium in 4 oz. The boss told me to bring it home with me......nice of him!
Today was day #10 of BC..........I think I'll just eat similar for the next few days, enjoy the "occasions" coming up, and see what happens.

Meal 2: 2 hard boiled eggs, 1 serv. deli turkey
Meal 3: 1 sm can vegetarian beans, celery, cauliflower, dip
Meal 4: Bloody Mary, 2 thin & small slices of veggie pizza
Meal 5: 2 pcs baked cod
I went to "Ladie's Tea" tonight. I had never heard of the guys going to a "Safety Meeting" before........I guess cause my hubs doesn't do that. So, my SIL invited me to Ladies Tea. What a crazy and fun bunch of women! I laughed so hard that my TMJ muscles all started hurting again! Of course, after the Bloody Mary and pizza, I will be retaining water like crazy tomorrow!

Wow, It is really inspiring reading about your journey. I am starting at close to the weight you started at. I started at 237.8. I've been on the FL4I diet for 2 cycles already and am already down 14 pounds. I was a little worried when you mentioned the amount of animal proteins on this diet but I think that if I increase the fish on my menu and decrease the chicken and eggs, my cholesterol should go down. I don't even know where my cholesterol is right now but at my weight and considering how I ate before this diet, it can't be very good. I know the feeling of being high risk for various diseases. My grandmother had diabetes and heart disease and my aunt died of cancer recently. I went through so many years with the "it will never happen to me" mentality but then I grew up. It took me 30 years but it happened with God's help. It is really amazing how powerful prayer can be. 2 years ago I quit smoking cold turkey through prayer alone and it's the same power that I believe without a doubt has helped me stick to this diet. It is so inspiring seeing the results of your incredible journey and I look forward to following along with your journey in the future. You are doing great

Norswede, you are so kind! My problem seems to be keeping it off.........I don't remember if you posted your age, but this hormonal flux the last 3 years has been a bugger!
I totally agree with you though..........Phil 4:13..........I can do all things through Christ, which strengthen me.
I just have to remember to rely totally on Him, and quit trying to do it myself......I don't have the strength!
When I did FL4I, and now on BC too, I use Egg Beaters when I can, to cut down the cholesterol. Also, I use nuts that aren't roasted in oil.........nuts themselves are healthy. I also try to use more fish, and when I do use deli meats, I get the 98-99% fat free ones. Just small little adjustments, that didn't seem to affect the weight loss the last times I was on FL4I.
Also, I take an herbal combination, that my hubs takes for his high cholesterol, when I am doing BC or FL4I, just in case all those animal products would raise mine. Mine was up higher last fall for my physical, which I don't like. But the preceding months were hormonally driven, and I had way too many bad foods.........hence the 50 lb weight gain in 3 years time.
I feel so much better now than I did at 247..........but, I felt so much better at 152 lbs. than I do now. So, I NEED to get back down there, and hopefully even lower to my goal of 140 lbs. That still sounds like a lot to weigh, but I am almost 5' 7" and let's face it, at 55 yrs of age, I don't need to have a svelt bod.........just a healthier one! I want to be around to see my great-grand-children!
So, BTW do I assume you are also a "swede" ?

So, does that make me a GerSwede? Mom was all German and Dad was all Swede.
Well, it's been a wicked weekend so far. Friday I went right from work, to pick up my MIL and we met 2 of the SIL's at Sam's Club. Actually we made a stop at Wal-Mart as the SIL's were doing some shopping at the mall. Then we met at Sam's Club until they closed! We filled 3 carts, which would never have all fit in my van.........good thing one "SIL" drove her SUV. We got most of the food for the big party tomorrow (Sunday)
Meal 5 was at Famous Dave's. I wasn't too good, although I didn't have anything in between meals, even though it was 9:00 when we walked into the restaurant. I had a pulled chicken sandwich, which has to be the best I've ever had in my life! I ate most of the french fries, which wasn't a big serving........and the Wilbur beans........and the corn muffin.......with water.
Today I had:
Meal 1: 2 egg beaters, english muffins w/ cheese
Then we went to the bank to sign some more papers for the loan for the new family room addition. Then I came home and made 5 pans of bars for tomorrow. I got done just before my DD dropped the grandkids off, and we headed for my aunt and uncles, about an hour away. Oh we stopped at church first, to drop off the bars and lots of big containers to hold the fruit we are cutting up after services tomorrow.
Meal 2: 1 sm 100% wg apple bran muffin
We spent a couple of hours visiting with relatives, and got to see my cousin and family from PA. One the way home, we stopped at McD's with the grandkids for some low-fat frozen yogurt.
Meal 3: (At the reunion) I had 1 hot dog, no bun.....w/sauerkraut and ketchup/mustard.......some veggie/pasta salad and a dill pickle spear.
I didn't touch the other toppings for the dogs, like cheese, chili etc. or the assortment of chips, cole slaw, banana bread, or cupcakes. I drank water.
Meal 4: Papa Murphy's pizza.........canadian bacon and black olive, watermelon and 2 christmas cookies the hubs brought out of the freezer.
Snack/dessert: 2 Ghiradelli dark choc. raspberry candies
SUNDAY WILL BE WICKED AND NOT A GOOD DIET DAY!

Just want to do a quick check in here. Life continues to be crazy!
Sunday was an exhausting day! It started at 5:30.......barely made it to church early enough to unload the last of the stuff for the big b-day party. Pastor had a shorter service (it was a special one for the closing of our Christian Day School-SAD DAY ) and we were back in the fellowhship hall and kitchen by 10:30. We cut bars, cut fruit, made coffee, sliced buns etc. and were ready to serve about 12:59 (open house was from 1-5 p.m.) Then we ran all afternoon.......I got 2 short breaks. We got out of there about 7:45. I was beat..........still am beat! Drinking coffee and diet coke today, trying to stay awake at work.
Last night after work, I went to a "Bra Party" Have you ladies ever heard of these? Guess the sports bra was recommended by Oprah! They were pretty comfy, perked the girls up considerably........and were hard on the pocketbook. Anyway, that lasted a while, and I didn't get home until 9:00 p.m.
I am missing my sleep...........which doesn't bode well for weight loss or my health!
Food hasn't been any sort of plan. Sunday I started with egg muffins at 7:30, then didn't eat until about 3:00 or later. Grabbed a shredded pork sandwich (I brought my own ww bun), fruit, potato salad, pickles. Dinner consisted of the same, before we started the clean-up process. The rest of the day I ate waaaaay too many bars!
Monday and Tuesday morning I was very grateful for ww toast and natural p butter. Trying to keep it whole foods and healthy. Ate lots of leftover fruit on Monday. A bit of salmon pasta salad at the Bra party, a few tortilla chips and fresh from the garden salsa, and a marguarita. Had a pork/ww bun and some chips when I got home, and another bar.
No time for a snack at the office this morning. Had an Arby's turkey and swiss for lunch and a diet cherry coke for the caffeine. Going downstairs soon to reheat my coffee.
Tonight is a run home, and back into town to the vet with my older kitty, Squirt. Hope the meds and herbs he was on helped his liver.
Got an appraiser coming to the house sometime.........and my house is a disaster. We've been gone sooooo much, the grandkids stayed the weekend, and then there is half my kitchen that I hauled down to church for the b-day party, still laying all over, that needs to be put away.
So, gotta clean tonight after the vet. And tomorrow night, I have to deeper clean for the high school girlfriends that are coming for breakfast on Saturday, to plan our girls weekend in October. Thursday night will be "Ladies Tea" again, if I choose to go. Friday night is my FIL's actual 80th birthday, so we are all invited to their house to finish up leftovers from Sunday. Saturday will be the girl's get-together and Sunday after church we are going to my Brother's for my nephew's b-day. And Monday will be our 35th wedding anniversary! I wonder if I will actually get to spend any time with my hubs?
Life is flying by.....................

Yeah, that breathing thing..........good thing it's automatic!
Well, got home from the vet about 6:30 tonight. Good news is that their was a small improvement in my Squirt. His bilirubin went down a bit.....and so did his cholesterol. Might indicate slight improvement in liver function. Not as much as the vet was hoping for, so she started him on a different herbal, and another medication. Also an antibiotic ointment for a bacterial ear infection. My poor baby! He doesn't like the ride into town, and he doesn't like having blood drawn.
Hubs called the appraiser back, and she couldn't come until Sept. 1! He talked to the loan officer again and she was going to see if she could get a different one. We really want to get going on this addition & geo-thermal while the weather is nice. No rain predicted for all week.........not sure when we had that much sun last.
So, no appraiser coming tomorrow........I took tonight off, after making dinner and paying some bills.

Aaaaah, two days passed already!
So, didn't get much cleaning and laundry done last night...........hubs was at Verizon store for 3.5 hrs and they couldn't get our MiFi to work wirelessly........then they couldn't get the laptop to connect to the internet wired or wireless! We ended up driving to the nearest Best Buy........they've got my laptop.
So, skipping "Ladies Tea" tonight, and going home to clean the house!
Meals have been on the fly...........
Wednesday:
Breakfast: 2 sl. ww toast w/p butter
Snack: greek yogurt, almonds
Lunch: 2 serv. baked beans, 1/3 bag cole slaw mix w ff drsg, red & black grapes, 1/2 apple, 1 Tbsp. golden raisins, almond & rice crackers
Snack: 2 handsful of trail mix
Dinner: Arby's turkey & swiss, with the mayo wiped off the sandwich (yuck, it was squeezing out the sides on the first bite.)
Snack: Bloody Mary & 1 Ghiradelli dark choc. rasp.
Thursday:
Breakfast: 2 sl. ww toast w/ natural p butter
Lunch: same as Wed.
Snack: 3/4 serv. almond & rice crackers, 1/2 serv almonds
Dinner:
Today was my massage day........felt good! I was afraid it would hurt more! Psoas on both sides has been tight, needing ice. Also feeling the periformis muscle in left glute like I did last winter. Went to CURVES on Wed., need to make sure that I get there tomorrow too! The stretching feels especially good.

My life is a crazy mixed up whirlwind! I want it to slow down.........I want to see the days passing..........not wake up and wonder what day this is! Can you say, stress? Can you say, lack of sleep? Can you say, even coffee and Coke Zero can barely keep me awake? Sorry to rant..........I've just got waaaaaay too much on my agenda.

Wow! Monday........late afternoon already!
Eating pretty much not on track Friday night was b-day party.......ate a couple of gooey salads w/the pork sandwich.......and 2 apple pie bars. Yummm
Saturday we were so busy......had egg bake and rolls and apples with the girlfriends. Then the rest of the day we ate egg bake, cause we were too busy cleaning to cook. The good news is that the egg bake was made with Egg Beaters, 100% ww bread, 1% milk, 2% cheese, lean ham and broccoli. I think I had a few handsful of trail mix too.
Sunday was Egg bake again.......the the b-day party for my nephew. I had 1 soft shell taco, fruit, pickles, a few chips..........and cake and ice cream.......scraped almost all the frosting off. After that was a trip to church for the ice cream social the ladies were putting on. So that was a small sloppy joe, a handful of potato chips, and a piece of raspberry pie. Later had ww toast with natural p butter and a dark choc Ghiradelli
Today was ww toast and p butter for breakfast
1/2 oz. almonds and 1/2 c. cottage cheese for snack
turkey club on whole wheat and a vanilla cone for lunch (it's upper 90's today)
Snack was some Nut Thin crackers
I'm off and heading home. Today is the actual day of our 35th anniversary........hubs said we'd go out to eat tonight.........don't want to be late.!

The days fly by..............always so busy.
The diet has changed.............again! During my visit to my chiro on Tuesday, he said he thinks my ileocecal valve (regulates flow between the small and large intestine) is stuck open. That means a change in diet. I think that means a loss in weight.....all my favorite snacks and meals are on the no-no list!
Causes of Ileocecal Valve symptoms:
Dehydration (not me)........emotional upsets (not much, unless stress counts)......how you eat (overeating, eating too frequently (Beyond Calories?), eating too quickly, eating foods you are sensitive to, under-chewing your food.........food you eat: carbonated drinks, alcohol, chocolate, caffeine, raw foods, hot spicy foods, tiny seeds)
Treating Ileocecal valve syndrome:
Treatment options are chiropractic adjustments, applied kinesiology and diet modifications.
My chiro said to restrict these foods for a couple of days, but the websites I checked said for 2-3 WEEKS!
AVOID: popcorn, nuts, potato chips, pretzels, seeds, whole grains, berries, raw fruit, raw veggies, chili powder, hot peppers, salsas, black and cayenne pepper, paprika, cloves, cinnamon, chocolate, caffeine (coffee and green and black tea), alcohol, carbonated drinks, beans, lentils, pickles, vinegar, soy sauce, acidic fruits, onions, garlic, leeks, curry, ginger
I don't have trouble finding foods for meals.........it's the snacks I have trouble with! I love to snack on nuts, nut crackers, whole wheat crackers............raw veggies, fruit....or for a treat, a piece of dark chocolate. Hmmmmm........
We will see how long I last..........especially with the day at the state fair coming up!

So how are you doing with your chiro prescribed "diet"?
Hanging in there?
Do you have any tummy pains?
Are things still real hectic at the office?

Sassy..........one of our companies has year end on June 30........that's the one I've been trying to get ready for the accountants for weeks now. But, I constantly get interrupted and lose my train of thought, or remember what I was working on. I finally got it finished and final reports printed today, just before noon! Whew! Big weight off my shoulders! I still have lots to get caught up on, at work. But that was a big one off the list.
I hadn't put all my symptoms together, until after I got back from my chiro appt. Then I looked online to read more of what he was talking about. I had been noticing a slight nausea after eating.......sometimes an acidy feeling..........and lots of gas, not seeming to be related to food that I ate. It's going OK.......although I'm not sure I can stick with it too well tomorrow at the fair?
I've been eating my Egg Beaters w/cheese and english muffin for breakfast.....but the EM is not whole grain. I eat a bowl of soup for lunch. Today I had greek yogurt and a slice of swiss for a snack. I've got some "no sugar added" applesauce for this afternoon's snack. For dinner, I've been grilling or baking fish (cod or salmon) and grilling or nuking veggies. I was wanting a sweet so bad at night after supper, when I normally would have grabbed a Ghiradelli dark choc.........but last night I found some of the applesauce in the food closet. That did it for me...........but I hope this goes away fast, 'cause it's apple season in MN, and means "HONEY CRISPS!"
I think we are going to an Italian place on Sunday for our anniversary/hubs birthday. I've heard so much about it, and have wanted to check it out for a few years. It's a restaurant without a building! Strange, huh? I'll know more if we get there, but it sounds like a place we ate at, on our trip to MI this summer. The tables were all on a lake shore, and a big white tent housed the kitchen......and the food was really good. This Italian place I think has a big canopy with no sides, or maybe sides that can be let down when needed? They advertise that if you have to wait to get seated, you can get a glass of wine and walk through the vineyards and down to the river........stroll around until you get seated. The food is suppose to be fabulous. I wanted to go on Sunday, because they have a buffet.........then I could taste a little bit of many of their dishes, to decide what I like. Individual entree's seem expensive for our budget right now....the buffet is $19 per adult..........not exactly McDonald's!
I got my new glasses last Friday, and I love the way they look. I also love the way I can actually read the bulletin in church on Sunday! Didn't realize my eyes had gotten quite that bad!
The hubs is still laid off. He went around to the contractors again this week, looking for work. They still say nothing ready to go yet. Maybe that's in God's plan? For the few weeks he worked in July, it was almost all overtime days. Right now, he needs to be at home if he's going to get this family room addition going...........and that has to be started before we can get the geo-thermal in. And today is a high in the 50's! It's also very windy..........I'm sure there's a windchill! Talk about a change........from endless days in the 90's and unreal dewpoints...........to highs in the 50's and 60's! We are still waiting for a final word from the bank on the loan, before the digger starts in. Hubs is making his "shopping" lists........I think he's really having a ball! I think he just wants this room to be some part of the house that he built. He did remodel the family room downstairs and did a good job for his first project. And let's face it........the man can do anything he puts his mind to...........even check his email occasionally!

I'm glad you got your reports printed. That must be a relief. Which reminds me, I have gotten behind on my own book keeping and I've been procrastinating about doing it.
That "building-less / outdoor restaurant" sounds nice. I love eating outside. If you go there, you'll have to let us know what you thought. Mmmnnn buffet... my sweet tooth hopes that includes dessert!
Congratulations on your new glasses. I'm sure you look beautiful in them!
I do hope your hubs finds work again, but you are right, sometimes it's good to take care of things around the house when the time presents itself. And it sounds like the addition and geo thermal system is quite a big project. Your hubby sounds a lot like mine. He can do quite a bit - he's a great handy man and even when he doesn't know how to do something, that doesn't stop him from doing it. My husband added a bedroom on to our house several years ago, and he even did the wiring, though he didn't know how to do it, he had a friend tell him what to do. It turned out very well.
Even your weather sounds similar to ours. We often get extreme changes, but probably quite not as steep a change as 90 degrees to 50!
Unless you count the temperature drop at night. Then we get down into the 30's. I like it most of the time (unless we are camping - then I freeze!), because I sleep better when it's a little cooler at night.
Well dear, I hope you have a nice weekend.
I'm hoping my facial swelling goes down enough for me to enjoy at least part of the weekend!

I think our hubs' are quite a bit alike! He, too, can figure out how to do just about anything, even if he has never done it before!
Mine was thrilled when he went for the bldg. permit, and was told that, yes, he could do the wiring himself! He did it in our downstairs family room, when he remodeled that............he did a lot of electrical stuff when he sold farm/barn equipment too. Sure are handy to have around, aren't they?
Sure hope you are feeling and looking better before the weekend is over!

I actually did enjoy Sunday and Monday. We didn't do anything too fancy. We did eat out Sunday at a mexican buffet restaurant.
We also had a campfire dinner one night. I love those.
How was your weekend?

Our weekends sound pretty similar! We did go to the State Fair on Saturday......ate too much and feeling fat today
Sunday, after church, we went to the restaurant I was talking about. I'd go again any day. Ours was Italian instead of Mexican. Then the kids (except the daughter in CO) all came over for a campfire and wiener roast.
Monday was lazy..........probably cause I didn't sleep until after 3:30..........hubs was snoring awfully loud. I finally took an ibuprofen PM around 3:00. We napped and worked intermittently on Monday. It was nice to have a relaxing day.
Today is the hubs birthday so I skipped CURVES, which I'd intended for my lunch break, and did some birthday shopping. JC Penney had some wonderful sales

Aaaaaww that sounds nice. Tell your hubs I said "Happy Birthday!"
Unfortunately birthdays do not help weight loss. Especially if they are in my house. It doesn't matter who is having a birthday. I always make sure they have a cake to celebrate. I would feel sad if we didn't do that. I think it's because we were so poor when I was growing up. I can't bear to think of someone having a birthday without cake!
Hope you have an awesome evening with your hubby!

Yeah, first I skip CURVES to go birthday shopping...........then I call the hubs to find out what he wants for his "special" b-day dinner..........and it's a chicken dinner from a local place and a Dairy Queen cake! NO calories there! Guess I get back on track tomorrow!
He went job hunting again today..........headed north to Mpls/St. Paul area this week. It's a farther drive for him, but he'll take whatever! He said a couple of years ago, he got hired on his birthday, so thought he'd try it again. Hope he's got good news when I get home! If not, well then God has other plans for him! Like maybe getting this new family room addition started???? We are still waiting to hear from the bank about the loan, before we can do anything. Patience, Pat, patience! God's hands, remember???

Thanks for your encouraging words, Coach! I need to hear them too! I feel revitalized this morning.........I did the standing abs part of Turbo Jam. My chiro said I need to work on strengthening my core, and suggested tightening abs with a pelvic tilt.......that sounded like Turbo Jam to me! I love TJ, but it's hard on my knees if I do it her way. So, some of the lunging parts of the DVD, I just do a soft knee stance and work around it, with other moves I can do.
It's might hit 70 degrees today.........my kinda walking weather.........so as soon as this next report is done printing, the Reeboks go on and I'm out the door! Tomorrow I will go to CURVES...........and hoping to work in the TJ abs again tonight. I gotta hit this running........I've been stagnant too long!
No good news on the job scene for the hubs. Hoping our loan for the addition comes through soon, so he can start on that before the snow starts flying in MN........or the rainy fall season!
The chicken dinner was very good, and the DQ cake was excellent! But now it stays in the freezer for me...........hubs better indulge when I'm not around!
I think I need to journal my food, even if I don't count calories........it helps my control.
Wednesday, Sept. 8
Breakfast: 2 english muffins w/Egg Beaters, 1 sl cheese, 2 tsp. blue cheese and ICBINB light
Snack: plain Greek yogurt with a drizzle of local honey (suppose to be good for allergies)
Lunch: Progresso Light Chicken Dumpling soup, 1.5 serv crackers, ice cream cone
Snack: 1/2 c. cottage cheese, 1/2 serv cinnamon organic applesauce
Dinner: 8 oz mushrooms sauteed in olive oil, 1 serv. chicken breast, cheesy broccoli potatoes ( 2 serv-220 cal.), 3 oatmeal raisin cookies
Snack: 1 sl. DQ cake (the hubs got it up from the freezer and offered.....I was too weak to resist)
It's funny how your resolve can just dissolve! That's more than I planned on eating, and things I didn't plan on eating.
I guess the good thing is that I did walk 1.3 miles this noon, and did the TJ standing abs section. At least I moved a bit!

| I see where you added a Greek Yogurt to menu today. I am hearing so many good things about Greek Yogurt. I think it can replace a protein for a meal among other benefits. I must try some. Also, some of my friends and family have started taking fish oil.....I think Nature's Best is one that is recommended. What do you think since you seem to be familiar with suppliments.

Hi Greentea! Thanks for coming to see me
I started eating Greek yogurt after reading Jillian Michael's book "Master Your Metabolism". She recommended it, so I gave it a try. I do like it, and yes, it is much higher in protein than regular yogurt. I think all the ones I've had are 0 grams of fat.
I didn't try any fruit flavored ones, only one with honey. Jillian recommended eating the plain Greek yogurt, so that's what I've been using lately. Because I have allergies, and I've heard that eating locally harvested honey helps allergies...........I've been eating the plain Gr. yogurt with a drizzle of local honey. I really prefer that. The vanilla flavor is OK. I also buy the ones that say they are made from milk from cows NOT treated with hormones......being my major problem right now is battling hormones! Right now, I've started a book called "The Hormone Diet" I wanted to see how it compared with Jillian's book. I've skimmed a few sections.......one thing that both of them say, that I hadn't thought about, is that besides cleaning up our diet and getting our exercise, we need to look at the harmful substances in the other products we use, that get into our bodies...........make-up, hair products, nail polish etc.
I cleaned up our house in 1999 when I started ordering products from Melaleuca.....kinda went green before it was popular. So, I'm not so much worried about my laundry products, hair products (except the styling spray, that I get from my beautician), toothpaste, deodorant and cleaning products. And I bought the Norwex window cleaning cloths a couple of years ago, so just use water for the windows (and the cloths make it so easy to wash windows, that it's almost a fun job). But, now I am looking into ordering or buying natural products for moisturers, make up, etc.
I do take fish oil. I get mine from Women to Women, in a packet that contains a fish oil, multi-vitamin, and a calcium/magnesium. I also take their Herbal Equilibrium (herbal hormone supplement). It's worked well for me, and now only take one a day instead of the two I started with (which didn't seem enough at the time). Jillian recommends about 1 gram as the dose for Omega 3 fish oils. The other book, "The Hormone Diet" recommends 2-4 grams daily. It lists 4 recommended brands: Nordic Naturals, Carlson, Metgenics and Clear Medicine. I remember reading in either Consumer Reports on Health, Prevention or Nutrition Action Newsletter (it's been a few years, so I don't know which one it is now) that all the Omega 3 capsules they tested contained what the label said it did, so you could buy the value priced ones. But, in recent years I've read more about looking for capsules that have a mercury statement on them. And some of them taste fishy all day long! Others have no aftertaste. It helps if you keep them in the refrigerator.
This is from "The Hormone Diet"
5 Ways Fish Oils Help With Fat Loss
1. They stimulate secretion of leptin, one of the hormones that decreases your appetite and promotes fat burning.
2. They help us burn fat by activating our PPAR's (key regulators of fat burning, blood sugar levels, and the balance of energy within your cells)
3. They encourage storage of carbs as glycogen (in your liver and muscles) rather than as fat.
4. The are natural anti-inflammatory agents. Remember, inflammation causes weight gain and can prevent fat loss by interfering with our PPAR's
5. They process documented insulin-sensitizing effects.
Whew! That got long........hope it wasn't TMI. I get carried away sometimes.

If we had DQ cake in the house I'm sure I'd be having some until it was gone. You are only human!
Good to see you sharing lots of good information with others.
I must chime in my 2 cents!
Every single person should be taking Omega 3's from animal protein. Either fish oil or Krill oil is very good too.
I guess sugar is a big thing that messes up our leptin levels. That's why it's so addictive. When we eat it, it just makes us more hungry.
I'm coming to the conclusion that they should have meetings for sugar addicts as well. It would do me a lot of good to attend one occasionally.
I love Greek yogurt. My favorite is the kind that has... sugar in it. It tastes sinfully good!

OK, I am going to try this again! I've lost this post 3 times already, so here goes #4
Sassy, I could use a sweets addicts meeting too lately. These wacky hormones the last 2 years have me devouring the sweets, where I always used to eat salty chips and crackers.
Ouch! Can you say ab pain? I did the Turbo Jam standing ab workout again this morning, and maybe I should have rested a day inbetween? I felt the abs all day! They hurt so much that I skipped CURVES and went for a 1/2 hr. walk instead.
I must have crunched those abs harder than I thought I could!
Had our first Women's Bible Study tonight.....that was fun. Great bunch of ladies I might be joining the church choir........not that I can read music, or sing very good, but they are short of bodies, and assure me it won't matter. Wait until they hear me sing! The best part is that the ladies usually get together over an hour before practice, and workout or do exercise videos........I could use that motivation!
TTOM started yesterday (8th). That explains the blowup over a watermelon on Sunday night, and the incredible tiredness on Monday and Tuesday, and the horrible headache on Wednesday. Oh the joys of being a woman! Also explains the cookies today....about 1/2 dozen of them throughout the day. That was not in the diet plan, for sure.

Hey there, I decided to drop in your diary and see if I could learn anything and I did! That is a good tip about the Greek yogurt, I need to get me some of that. I think sugar is very addicting and they do have Overeaters Anonymous meetings--I know that's not exactly like Sugar Addicts, but it's in the ballpark!

| Hiya Pat! Oh my. I can't imagine what Turbo Jam abs consists of but I can imagine two days in a row would make you sore for sure! I generally do toning of any kind every-other-day (when I am being good, lately it has been sporadic at best). But the great thing about doing abs is that you always see an immediate improvement in how your tummy looks. Keep it up!

Hey Pat, I think I've got my life so tightly scheduled that I'm penciling in bathroom breaks ...really that's not as bad as it probably sounds because my time is spent doing stuff I want to do - there's just more stuff than time right now. So spending time on CPH is just one of the things I have to elect to "let go" for the forseeable future
BUT, I did want to take a minute and seriously tell you how much I have appreciated your presence on the site. The way you face your own struggles, your relationship with your hubby and your family, and, most of all, your abiding and enduring faith in the face of good times and bad...all of this and so much more is a flame that shines brightly, generating both heat and light. I can honestly tell you that, even though I have never met you in person, you are without a doubt one of my role models in life and hold a permenant place in my heart.
Sending hugs, love, and prayers for both you and your hubby. Peace be with you.
