Hi Beth and Scoobs!   Thanks for checking in on me   I did come back to work on Monday, for 4 hrs...........then went home and slept 4 hrs straight!   And had no energy to do anything after I woke up either.    I worked 4 hrs on Tuesday, stopped for groceries, and then went home to rest.    I didn't sleep nearly as long, but only because my MIL called to check on me, and woke me up.    Later I did some picking up, and paid some bills.    So, slowly I am coming back to the land of the living.   Whew!   Avoid that H1N1 if at all possible............it really knocked me out!   I've never needed this long to recover.........and the pneumonia, the Dr. said was just beginning.   So, I didn't think it would be any big deal.    Well, I gotta sign off..........need to use the energy for work, while I'm here.    Thanks for caring

Sorry to hear that you had the H1N1 with the pneumonia, my son is just going thru that now.  I am not allowed to be near him because they have me on the Enbrel for the rheumatoid arthritis so I have no immune system. It sucks feel very much for you.  Oh yea and hello again, when you are feeling better stop by and say hello.  Been a long time since I have been on.

Yay Hisgal!  Welcome back to the land of the living!!!  Great to hear you're slowly coming along; sounds like it did a real number on ya!  How scary.  It feels like I've barely got any skin left on my hands from all the handwashing & sanitizing we do!!  You know all those kids at the school - coughing, sneezing, snotting, etc.  Anyway, hope you have a speedy recovery and will be back to normal soon!

Hi Pat, Hope all is well.  Hope to you see you on here soon.  I was off so long because the RA had gotten worse, I had to go off all medicine because it was affecting my liver functions, I was in so much pain, all I could stand to do was work (and that was hard) and come home and go to bed.  I would be so stiff that I could barely move.  Finally about 8 weeks ago I started on the Enbrel which they call the miracle drug, it can heal the damage already done by the RA, it does take about 6 months to feel the full effects, but, I have noticed that I am not quite as stiff as I use to be, still have the pain and swelling, but seem to be getting better, hopefully this time it works and I will be able to go about my life and loose weight and enjoy my life again.

Hi Everyone!

I am still alive, but just swamped now that I'm back at work.    And this is "fix Pat" week too.   Went to my chiro on Tuesday, so neck, back and knee are feeling much better.    I went to the dentist on Thursday, and found I have an infection in a molar, so back on antibiotics..........and he's sending the x-rays to an endodontist, might have a cracked root     This morning is my annual physical...........oh joy!   And I'm hoping he'll x-ray this ankle............which is still extremely painful, 8 weeks after I thought I sprained it.   Man, I am falling apart!   Oh yeah, I was pretty much off my herbal hormone supplement while I was sick...........and now I've had a 2 week + TOM, I've got my mood swings back, breasts are tender..........and the cravings for sweets are so INTENSE, I can hardly believe it!    Let's hope things get better.

Geeezzz Pat, I am sorry to hear things are going so bad for you. I hope the doctors get you all fixed up. It's hard to focus on diet and exercise when nothing else is working right for us.

Get better and keep us posted....

Hi all!   Man, I've been missing my friends here on CPH :crying:   I hope to catch up with everyone real soon, and make myself a regular again.   But, I'm so busy at work, and at home, trying to catch up from my weeks of being sick........I just never have enough time or energy

Quick update.............the dentist called, and it's not a cracked tooth/root, but there is a very small root, that wasn't done a few years ago, when they did the root canal, that is acting up.    I still have to go see the endodontist to have it done, about an hour away.   First I have to finish the antibiotic for the infection that's present.

As far as I know, the physical went fine on Friday.   Had a nice, loooooong talk with my Dr. about all the peri-menopause stuff going on.   He said if the herbal supplement is doing the job, to continue with it.........he doesn't recommend the HRT.   He checked out my ankle, and like my chiro, said from the movement, etc. it is not fractured.   He set up physical therapy for me............first appt. is this Wed. 11/18 at 9:30 a.m.    I am hoping to find out exactly what I can and can't do.   I know I limp when I walk, and going up and down stairs just kills!   Very painful, and that's with an ankle brace on.   But I'd like to know what I am allowed to do, so maybe I can work up some kind of routine......even if it's just stretches and weights.   I should be getting my bloodwork report in the mail in a day or two.    I also had the dreaded mammogram     I have never had one so painful, in the 14 years I've been having them.   And because of my dense breasts, I often have to have more than one........and then ultrasounds too.    I think maybe the girls were a bit tender yet, from TTOM still going on (for 2 weeks), and being off the herbal hormones while sick.   Otherwise, I only had to have one set, and I was done.    I really feel like the denseness and hardness of my breasts is gone...........and I attribute that to the Iodoral I've been taking.    Also, I haven't been able to find the cyst in the left one, that I found in April of 2008.   Is that due to the Iodoral too?

I am most excited about 2 new products............the first is a "Healthmaster".   Montel Williams does an infomercial on it.   I've always wanted some kind of machine that I could play around with making smoothies, etc.    This one does frozen treats, soups, smoothies, chops veggies/fruit........lots of stuff.   My chiro ordered one, and then was offered "refurbished" machines at half price.   She got one for her sister, but the sister had no interest.   So, she offered it to me...........I am trying it out right now.   Just did my first smoothie  this morning.......much quicker and easier than my little blender!

The second thing I discovered was a product by "Outlast".   It was mentioned in a newsletter I get called "Minnie Pauz"...........yes, a play on menopause.    The author mentioned it in the Sept. newsletter.............then shared a letter she'd gotten from someone who'd tried the product.   It's a fabric that helps to keep you cool while you sleep.    You can purchase it at JC Penney's..........Bed Bath & Beyond...........Select Comfort...........Cabella's     As I read about it, I realized it was the mattress pad that my daughter & SIL had purchased with their Select Comfort bed.    I'd always thought of buying a mattress pad, but the cost of $250 was a bit prohibitive.    Well, there's a link and a code in the newsletter, that you can get the mattress pad 1/2 price in November, along with 2 free pillow protectors.    Mine shipped today!    I am so excited:tongue:    When I took my MIL Christmas shopping last Wed., I bought 2 standard pillows at JC Penneys with this Outlast fabric protectors..............they are sold by the brand name "Iso-Cool" at Penney's and BBB.    Then I found a contour pillow from Outlast, and a form fitted pillow cover at BBB.    I washed up the covers on Saturday, and used them for 2 nights now.    I love  them.   They do really feel cool all night!    The hubs always kicks his feet out of the covers, so I'm hoping he'll appreciate this mattress pad too.   Here's the letter that a reader sent into the Minnie Pauz newletter.............

One of the issues I'm asked about a lot, is night sweats. I think it was the September newsletter that I told you what I've found that helps with my own "night heat". I can guarantee you don't want to miss this offer! Here's what one of my readers wrote after I highly recommended the Outlast Sleep System in a previous newsletter:
My hot flashes and night sweats were out of control. I cancelled our vacation in early September because of it, which was yet another Peri-M knife in our marriage. You told me about the Outlast Bedding. It KILLED me to think of ordering bedding that expensive. I'm a Walmart clearance rack kind-of-a-gal! I finally broke down and went to the website. I was very skeptical. They don't guarantee anything. I have a king size bed so needed the most expensive product. I decided 'in for a penny - in for a pound' and ordered the whole set. I don't know how it works, but it works!!! As soon as this bedding senses that I am heating up, it starts sucking the heat out of me. I still wake up during the night, maybe because I'm getting ready to over-heat, but probably because of the insomnia and sleep disruption that the Menopause Gods provide. That's a whole other topic ) I don't have to get up and stand in front of a 5 FT floor fan naked while drying my hair and finding fresh jammies. It really hasn't been a problem since the day they arrived. Thanks for telling me about this amazing product. The price gagged me, but it has already paid for itself. My husband LOVES it. He let me have both pillows at 1st, but has taken one over and is encouraging me to order another for myself to hug. The blanket is paper-thin and it's all we have on our bed right now - THAT'S HOW GOOD IT IS! It keeps hubby just as warm as it keeps me cool. Our son with Down Syndrome goes and lays in my bed all the time and when our other two kids come home on the weekends for laundry and home cookin', they have to take a nap in "Mom's space-age bed".
And now, Outlast is offering Minnie Pauz subscribers a special offer for November!! 50% off a mattress pad and a pack of pillow covers FREE!

Well, it's taken me all day long to type this out..........a few sentences at a time.   Time to post it!   Thanks again to everyone who is checking in on me.   Hope things get back to "normal" soon.

Hi, Pat!  It was so good to hear from you.

I'm just ticking along.  No weight loss, though.  The hubs is having problems with his congestive heart failure, has been swelling up.  He's doubled up on his fluid pills and is doing better.  I was afraid they would hospitalize him yesterday, but they didn't think he needed to go.  He has to be very careful.  Little things like swelling or the flu can tip him over the edge very quickly.  It always just scares me to death.  We are going to try and cut down on salt, which I dread, since I love salt.

My smoothies were really simple.  A scoop of protein powder, some liquid (usually water,) a splenda and some frozen strawberries.  Blend it and add a handful of fresh spinach and blend some more.  It will turn a strange dirty looking green, but the strawberries make it taste pretty good.  I suppose you could add any mild veggie to the smoothie.  The frozen strawberries seem to be the key.

Good luck and take care!

Thanks, Beth!    It sounds like a smoothie I make, but without the spinach.   I thought maybe yours was all veggie.   There is a recipe for a "V-6" that came with the machine.   Most of the smoothie recipes are for fruit ones.

The one I've been making for breakfast is either vanilla protein powder or ff yogurt, with water or lowfat milk, orange juice, sometimes a banana, and then frozen mixed fruit (strawberries, pineapple, peaches, mango) until it's thick like a shake.   Yummmm! :yum:

Well, I had my first physical therapy appt today on my ankle/achilles..........he says it's tendonosis.    The massage felt wonderful while he did it..........but asked for an Advil later in the morning (which I refused to give my body).   I just feel like I'm popping something into my mouth all the time!   I've got the antibiotics for my tooth infection....3 times a day.    I take my packet (multi, cal/mag, fishoil, & herbal hormone) from Women to Women morning and night.    At noon, I take my glucosamine, milk thistle, Iodoral, selenium & B12.    I try to space it all out...........and it's quite a routine.    So, anyway, I have "homework" from the therapist..........which I've been working on at work, while reports are printing.   The one stretch I'm suppose to do up to 5 times a day     And I need to ice...........he said several times a day.    I went online and read that ice is my best friend right now.    Ice pack/bags, ice massage and ice dipping..........brrrr.....in MN in the winter?    Hopefully a few days will bring some improvement

I had to get on the scale at the Dr..........and I was up 3 lbs in the 2 weeks between visits.   My pants are quite tight............that's size 14.   I was so close to a 12 before I got sick, off my herbal hormones, and started eating everything in site :crying:    Now that I've had about a week on regular doses, I can feel the cravings subsiding again.   I've been eating a lot of green/red/yellow/orange veggies........and several fruits a day.   But I've also been eating more meat..........trying to get more protein in.   My fingernails are really split and peeling........have been for quite a while now.    Makes me wonder if it has to do with my protein intake?    And now I wonder if the problem that occured with the Achilles tendon has anything to do with low animal protein intake?

Also, something that doesn't make sense to me, is that my total cholesterol is way up again!     To 239       When I pigged out on sweets this summer, and then again a few weeks ago, I must have chosen all the high fat/transfat ones??   Of course, my weight is up........and the cholesterol usually follows.    And I've not been able to do cardio, with the ankle/Achilles problem.    I think my last check at the Dr. was a total cholesterol of 181.    I guess the only good thing about it, is that my "good" cholesterol is at 67.    Well, I've got to work on correcting the diet once again.........and get that number down.   Maybe I'll start taking the hubs herbal cholesterol supplement?

I know many like to watch the scale...........and I like to see a low number there too, but I am more concerned about my lipid panel, than the number on the scale.   The Dr.'s was at 188 lbs.............I should get on mine once, and compare them.

Well, I'm kinda chatty today...........I've got a long report printing out.   I just wanted to get some of this stuff down, so I can look back at it when I need to.

Hi Pat,

I found this on a web site called http://www.quackcenter.com/iodoralresults.html

10-29-09 from R
I had a large cyst in my breast for 4 mos.- kind of scarey. I had an ultra sound done and then went to my doctor, who is alternative. He recommended Iodoral and the cyst disappeared in about 3 weeks.
I have friends that also take it for thyroid reasons and swear by it.
Thanks, R

 So possibly from the Iodoral

Hi Pat, Glad to see you back on line, I have been trying to post, but, mostly I just read, having some problems with the asthma and this wacky weather (at least that is all we hope it is), so I get really tired and usually just read the posts and then go to bed.  Glad to see you feeling better and getting the help for the tooth and ankle.

Hi Judy :rose:!

That was quite a link with a lot of interesting testimonials.   Seems there are people for whom Iodoral helps with all sorts of things.   I got started on it, thanks to Sassykat, after I read the book by Dr. David Brownstein, "Iodine, Why You Need It, Why You Can't Live Without It"   It is so important to cell function!   And with people cutting down on salt, they aren't getting it there............and the other major problem seems to be that all bakeries use the halides in their products, particularly Bromide, which binds to the iodine you do take in, and renders it useless.    And I think there are quite a few people who love bread products as much as I do.     I maybe should up my dose to 25 mg a day (2 tabs) and see if there is any other things I notice improvements in.    Thanks for the link!

I just have to tell everyone, that I received my mattress pad last night, from the Outlast Company.   I'd mentioned it in another post earlier.    I absolutely love the pillow covers I've been using for the last week, and was impatient to get the mattress pad.   It arrived yesterday, and I washed it up right away last night, and got it on the bed.   Now, I realize that not everyone is having night sweats..........but my hubs is always hot when he sleeps too..........he kicks his feet out all night long (which makes a mess of the covers at the end of the bed).    I really slept well last night!    If anyone else is interested, they are on sale 50% off through the end of November.

Now that I've read Judy's link, that people are having success with eliminating hot flashes too, with Iodoral...........I'm going to up my dose, and sleep on my Iso-Cool mattress pad.............and I should be sleeping all night long!    In fact, I did last night.....didn't even wake up to go to the bathroom.

Pat, you always have such interesting information on your site.  I've been reading about iodine deficiency.

I was told years and years ago by a Dr. here who was thought to be a quack, that if I craved salt, to eat salt.  It was my thyroid gland wanting it.  Finally I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism have been on synthroid for about 15 years.

Had the Dr. check T3 and T4 last blood test and he said all was well on the synthroid.  I plan to try the tincture of iodine test as soon as I can acquire some iodine.  I can't ever remember not craving salt.  Maybe I need the Iodoral.  I suspect all my strange aches and things no one can ever find a reason for may be thyroid related.

Thanks for the info!
