Pat, sounds like you're having such a great week!  Aren't the good times wonderful?

You mentioned something about GNC protein powder.  I bought 100% Gold Standard Whey (vanilla ice cream) and it tastes downright NASTY.  So now I have this huge thing of GSW I can't stand taking up all that room in my cabinet.  I should just throw it away, by it cost so much, I'm ashamed to do it.  I guess I'll look at it and move it around for awhile longer.

Keep having fun with the kiddies!!!!!

Beth,

The one I got at GNC was "Designer Whey"...........only because it came in a smaller can and didn't cost so much.    I've only tried it once..........that was enough!:angry::shock:   Now it sits on my cupboard too, taking up space.

Someone mentioned one.........I think it was "Optimum Nutrition", but when I went to get it, that was one of those in the huge container..........so I chickened out.   I still haven't tried the EAS dry powder, only the pre-mixed.

Mol,  his has been a fun week.........this time is sooooo precious.   I remember when my youngest got too old to sit in my lap and just cuddle.    I missed that so much.   It's been a double treat to have Haley.........just for that cuddle time.   And the boys give the best hugs, and  "I love you, Grandma" 's    Such memories we are making!

Oh, that's so hilarious!  There are so many things in my house I can't bring myself to throw away and so, like you, ...I look at it and move it around for a while longer.

I guess I can't get in enough posting in your diary  Hisgal...

I've been reading over your documenting of this JUDD diet and it looks like you've been doing really well with it! :ribbon: It's got me to thinking about it.  If I decide to give it a try, I think I'll copy what you're doing on your DD.  Then on my UD I would have to include some fats for Gary.  Of course, if I don't feel well I would probably have to ditch it pretty fast, but at this point I would like to give it a try.

Hey Scoobs...........my activities are wearing me out too!   I sure hope this JUDDD thing keeps working for me.   It really is pretty easy to do, Sassykat.   Tonight I am hungrier than usual.   But, I think that's partly because I didn't get my first meal in until almost 1:00 p.m.............the morning was just so busy with the kids.   One more night to go!   Oh who am I kidding...........I'm going to miss them  like crazy when they are gone!

I can't wait to see the looks on the boys faces' tomorrow, when they realize we are going on a train ride!   The boys are nuts about trains.......especially the oldest one.   They are going to be soooooo pumped!   Good thing their parent's get them back the next day :devil::devil:   I've got them spoiled and  loved  enough.......and out of routine.....they are going to love trying to get them back on track!   But, that's part of the fun of being a grandma

I always weigh the morning after a DD.........which is what the website for JUDDD recommends.   However, they also recommend only weighing once a week.   I've been doing it every morning after a DD.   The weekend will be 2 UD in a row again......hopefully the next weigh in after that won't be too bad.   The upside.....next week I can get back into my routine of walking every day on my lunch break and doing my stretches and ab work in the mornings before work.

Friday, June 27.............a DD

1:00 p.m. Meal 1:  EAS strawberry shake and Dannon Light 'n Fit yogurt (180)

3:30 p.m. Meal 2:  mini popcorn (it rained/stormed on and off, so we had a movie afternoon.........popcorn seemed appropriate ) (100)

6:00 p.m. Meal 3:  EAS choc shake and celery (120)

10:15 p.m. Meal 4:  mini popcorn (100)

Total calories:  500

It sounds like you had a wonderful time with the grandkids...........and so what if you didn't get in your scheduled exercise, I bet the funercise was more of a workout than the scheduled exercise you do.  I remember when my kids were little and when I had my granddaughters living with me..........I was always moving and never gaining weight..........I really miss those days...

It's almost 2:00 a.m. and I'm beat.   We had the greatest day on the train with the kids.  The look on the boys' faces when they realized what we were going to do, was priceless!     I just finished putting together a photo album (130 pics) for the munchkins of our week together..............I want to sit down and relive it a bit, before I give it to them in the morning.   Our daughter and her hubs should be arrriving here from the airport very soon.

Just had to report..........

:shooting_star:   Weight, June 28:  189.6 lbs   :tongue::tongue::tongue:

I was pretty good all day, however...........tonight the M & M's called me.   Chocolate!   Must be TTOM coming...........I resisted the chocolate on Thursday night, but tonight it got me.    And I've been craving salt all day, and drinking water like it's my last drink tonight!   Yep, I'd say TTOM is coming :angry::angry:

I'll catch up on the diaries tomorrow..............

Wow, congratulations on getting into the 180's!  That's awesome!

That photo album you made for the kids sounds so nice.  You're such a great grandma!  I'm so glad you had such a wonderful visit with them.

Hubs and I are going to try that up day down day diet, and if it doesn't work (not meaning we couldn't lose weight, but that we couldn't do the down days) maybe we could moderate it to some sort of zig zag.  We got those shakes yesterday and so far today all I've had is black coffee and yogurt.  We went for a walk, but I'm feeling kind of shaky now, like my blood sugar is low, so maybe it would be better if I had the shake first thing in the morning instead of yogurt.

I hope your daughter and hubs had a nice vacation.:palms::cool:

Scoobs, I wish I had a duplicate photo album for me! (prints and album cost me about $40, so I just printed a couple of my favs for me)  I sat down early Sunday morning, after I'd put  the album together, and paged through it, with my favorite contemporary Christian music playing in the background............and cried :crying:   We'd had such a fun time together.......I just knew I was going to miss those munchkins terribly.   And I do.....:crying::sad::crying::sad::crying:

Mol, Judy, Scoobs and Sassykat........I do feel like this JUDDD thing is working.   I am still amazed that I handle the DD's so well.   Actually, I still feel like they are easier than the UD's.    I need to get back to more of an ETL menu on the UD's.   This past week, I pretty much ate what I fixed the grandkids.   The foods were basically healthy versions of some of their favs.

Right now, I'm reading the part of the book that talks of the success of asthma patients who go on the Alternate Day Diet (JUDDD).   Judy :rose:, did I remember that as being one of your health problems?   The book is fairly new, and has only been out a few months, so I don't know if a local library would have it, but you might want to check it out.   I am waiting to get to the chapter that talks of this WOE turning on your SIRT1 gene or "skinny gene".   I wish I had time to devour the whole book in one sitting......so I'd know more about which I talk.

Sassykat, I too, drank coffee on my first couple of DD's........and I got the shakes.   I think it was more the caffeine than low blood sugar for me.    When I switched back to de-caf green tea, I didn't have the problem at all.   However, today I am soooo tired from running after the  munchkins and being short on sleep, that I had to break out the coffee at work again.........and today I had the shakes again.    I usually feel absolutely terrific on my DD's.    Have you gone to the website, and read about how to do the diet?   You should be drinking plenty of water with this WOE, too.   I didn't drink as much as usual last week, when the grandkids were here, and my rings were constantly tight.    Today I'm back on schedule, and they are swinging around my fingers again.

When I used the calculator on the Alternate Day Diet website, my calculation with exercise 1-3 times a week was about 425 calories on the DD's and 2100 on the UD's.   I've been sticking with the generic figure of 500 calories a day on the DD's and not real careful to keep the UD's at maintenance.     But, even so, I've been seeing a steady decline :down_arrow: on the scale.

Today was a DD...........and my boss wants to take us out to lunch.   I tried to explain what I was doing for an eating plan, but she said "We'll go to Applebee's....they have a WW menu!", as if that solves everything!   I really wanted to go for a walk too!   Even though I'd been chasing Haley around, I hadn't done any walking since before they came.    Well, I hated to say "no" to the boss, so I went.    I ordered the Chili Lime Chicken Spinach salad from the WW menu, and it was delicious :yum:.   The entree was 250 calories, so I ate half and asked for a take-out box..........and just finished the other half for dinner, while I was perusing the diaries, just now.    That should still leave me plenty of calories for a mini popcorn or another protein shake yet this evening.  I'd call that an NSV!

Monday, June 30..............a DD

10:00 a.m. Meal 1:  ( I forgot to grab my yogurt this morning) Choc EAS (110)

12:00 noon Meal 2:  1/2 Chili Lime Chicken Spinach salad at Applebee's (125)

6:30 p.m. Meal 3: the other half of above salad (125)

Meal 4:  mini popcorn (100)

Running Total of calories:  460 calories

That's actually good to know about Applebees.  I hate going to restaurants who have no healthy options on the menu.  I end up practially custom ordering dinner (no cheese, mayo on the side, no butter on the bun, no croutons, etc).

I enjoyed reading about all your adventures with the kids.  I am glad you have a lot of photos of such a priceless visit.

Calorie range for Alternate Day Diet (JUDDD)

For weight loss:  20-25% of "normal" calories (based on weight, age, activity, height), can go as high as 35%.......should find a level you are comfortable with and can maintain long term

For maintenance:  50-60% of "normal calories"

Pat's weight loss range:  20% is 425 calories on DD    25% is 532 calories on DD

Pat's normal calorie range:  2126 (5 ft 6.5 in, 53 yrs., 1-3 days of light activity, 190 lbs)

It is more important to concentrate on keeping the DD in the correct range, than to worry about how many calories you eat on the UD.   Don't worry if you can't eat all the UD calories.   It is complying with the DD calories, which is important to activate the SIRT1 gene, which set in motion the beneficial processes which produce optimum health. (irregardless of whether you are losing weight)

TUESDAY, JULY 1 (ALREADY???) FOOD:

BREAKFAST:  2 lt english muffins, 2 egg beaters, 1 sl 2% cheese (360)

SNACK: 1/2 c. pineapple (38), 1/2 c. green grapes (34), Fiber One yogurt (80)

LUNCH:  McD's yogurt cone (150) ***88 degrees at the end of my walk:shock:***  Oriental cabbage salad (369)

SNACK:  None

DINNER:  1/2 bag of sugar snap pea stir-fry (90)  1 ckn breast strip (66), 2 serv. Schwan's whole grain loaf (240), 1 Tbsp. lt spread (50)

SNACK:  None

Running total:  1477 calories

Started JUDDD on 6/16/08     SW: 196 lbs.

After 1 week:  190.6 lbs

After 2 weeks:  189.6 lbs

I've only been doing DD on MWF..........and having up days on T, TH, Sat & Sunday.   Makes me wonder if I'd have even more success if I truly alternated days?   Also wonder what if I did 2 DD's in a row?   Better keep reading the book..............

:shooting_star:  Exercise:  1.3 miles in 88 degree temps  :sun::sun::sun::sun:

I didn't even remember Applebee's had some WW options - it's been a long time.  :yum:  I know some of the restaurants are reducing portion sizes and claiming it's healthier.  I can remember looking at a menu somewhere during the Adkins/low carb explosion and it had several unappealing things marked by stars.  No matter where I go it seems 'custom ordering' is a must. :dizzy:  Except for Blue Sky Restaurant in my area. :shooting_star:  Unfortunately they list this on the menu in large letters as "Diet Plate". :dizzy:  You almost feel like an outcast when ordering it lol.  But you get the choice of a grilled chicken breast or ground sirloin patty; and it comes with grilled veggies, cottage cheese, a hard boiled egg, and fruit cup. :yum:  Fills me up completely. :yum:  I just wish they would change it's name on the menu.

Scoobs, Applebees :apple: has some tasty selections on their WW menu..........and they list the calories and fat.   I like eating there, just because of that!  :yum:

I've been making my way through "The Alternate Day Diet" book, by Dr. James B. Johnson.   Most of the clinical examples he gives are of the health improvements (almost immediately) for asthmatics.

On page 84 he writes:  " The various conditions for which my colleagues and I have seen improvements in people on the Alternate Day Diet include insulin resistance, asthma, seasonal allergies, autoimmune disease (rheumatoid arthritis), osteoarthritis, inflammatory central nervous lesions (Tourette's syndrome, Meniere's disease), cardiac arrhythmias (frequent estrasystoles, atrial fibrillation), menopause related hot flashes, and infectious diseases of viral, bacterial, and fungal origin (toenail fungus, periodontal disease, viral URI's)."

And one of the interesting things is.........these health benefits seem to be present with alternate day dieting..........whether or not, you eat too much on your UD.   If you do, you won't lose weight, but you will still reap the health benefits.   Hmmmm..........

I was reading Scoobs' diary and y'all were talking about a leg contraption.  What is that?  My thighs are looking droopy.  I really think it's skin that hasn't gone down with the thighs.  I really hope my skin will shrink, too.  I'm not so sure I'll be that lucky.  I've been thinking about an ab lounder for the big bird stomach.  What I need is MAGIC!

Beth, go to buylegmagic.com and check it out.   Just beware that it's not as easy as it looks!   Actually, I bought mine at Kohl's at Christmas time.   They had them on sale, and I had a 30% off coupon........cheaper than the website price, for sure.

I've seen that infomercial.  I doesn't look easy to me! It looks painful.  I'll pass and just keep doing what I'm doing.  Either the skin will shrink or it won't.  I don't think spending little money will really help.  It might take big money for skin surgery or maybe a girdle that smooshes it all so it doesn't show.

Well, Beth, I don't have the money for surgery...........so good old exercise it is!   I'll try to keep with it for a few weeks, and let you know how it's working.   There's a DVD that comes with the machine.   The routine includes some floor ab work, along with using the Leg Magic.   I haven't done that yet..........I've got my hands full just doing a few reps on the machine!   Going to my chiro tomorrow, so will lay off the LM for a day or so to let everything "settle in" before I pull something out of place again.

Yeah, Beth, my thoughts exactly!   If I'd lost lots of weight like Victor Version, I would have to have something done...........but I should have only a little over 100 lbs. gone, by the time I finally hit goal.    And I've certainly done it gradually enough to keep tightening things up as I go.

Those 'glamorous' nip & tuck shows :dizzy:...some kind of glamor huh?  Even if I did have the money to have surgery, I am such a scaredy:cat: I doubt if I would ever go through with it.

It was at about this same time last summer as I was almost to goal weight that I realized I would not be left with the body that I envisioned from the beginning.  Do you remember having that pep talk with me Hisgal? It hit me so hard that no matter what, bikinis would not be for me.  It was hard to swallow for a long time that after all this work, I am destined to be left with wrinkly baggy saggy skin.  But everyone is so different; I think all my yo-yoing with extreme weight amounts was just too much for my old skin to recover from.  But I am finally ok with it (I think )...now if I could just find that perfect revealing sexy swimsuit that goes from neck to knees I would be thrilled.

I lost my first 60 lbs very fast..........and I had baggy skin!    But now that I've been up and down for a few years, between 155-190, and kept walking, Curves, and some weights, I really think the skin has sprung back into shape.   Even my face is better.   That was the part that was the hardest to swallow............fat faces don't have as many wrinkles!   My stomach really didn't look too bad last summer.........it's the thunder thighs that I wonder about.    Will they ever look slim?   Or be cellulite forever??

I can't help with the thunder thighs.  I've lost most of my 36 lbs in the legs, face, and butt.  I never understood how important the butt is.  It protects your tailbone when you sit down.  We have these metal folding chairs at Sunday School.  Boy do they get painful.  I would take a pillow to sit on, but everyone would probably assume I have hemorrhoids and I just don't think I could take that.:nono:

Oh Beth, that was my chuckle for the day!   We seem to be opposite shapes, huh?

I got my hair permed today......spiral perm, so I've got a head of long, blonde, spiral curls.   I hate it for the first few days, then it will settle down a bit.   I like the way I look before the perm, but I love the convenience of the perm.   It will be so much faster getting ready in the morning, and at least it won't be totally blown apart after my noon walks.   It's easy care

Tomorrow I get to go to my chiro, and get everything put back in place.   I can hardly wait!   Many nights my legs have just been "jumping"........the low back is out bad.

We are going to a Twins baseball game on Saturday night, that's about all we have planned for the weekend.   Will probably head to the Twin Cities early that morning, as we have some odds and ends we want to shop for.   One important one is a new pair of walking shoes for me.    My feet just hurt in my old ones.........it's part of the reason I only walk 3 laps around the walking path at the park.....if I walk any longer, I can hardly walk around the office in the afternoon, my feet hurt so bad.

The oldest daughter and family (grandkids), and our son and his wife are all going to the game too.  I guess it will kind of be my birthday celebration.   I will be another year older on Monday!   Man, those come by quicker :clock: and quicker :clock: each year.   Seems like I just celebrated one.

I talked to my daughter in CO tonight.   She went back to the Dr. for a follow-up.    The surgical incision was nicely healed (from the lump removal), but now they found a lump in the other breast.   They ultrasounded, and actually there are two lumps.   The Dr. feels they are fibro-adenomas, like she had removed in April.   They want her to come back late August and have it checked again for changes.   I thought we were all done with that!:shock:    At least, being she's gone through this once already, she is much calmer about it this time.    That's a good thing.

Well, I better pop up to my earlier post, and update my food intake for the day.   Wait until tomorrow!    I made a strawberry pie tonight :devil:   Now, before anyone thinks I'm going to blow it tomorrow, on my UD, let me explain..........

My version of strawberry pie............crushed low-fat graham crackers to cover the bottom of the 10" pie plate..........cooked Strawberry junket (danish pudding) with 4 cups of sliced strawberries..............on top of the graham crackers.    I figured it out already, and the whole pie is 1000 calories.    Cut that into 8 large pieces (it's a 10" pie plate, after all) and each sinful piece is only 125 calories.   I can work that into my day!

I wish I had some of your strawberry pie!  What is danish pudding?  125 cals sounds excellent!  Do you put cool whip or anything on the top?

Oh man, Beth............I hadn't even thought of putting Cool Whip on top! :chewing::devil::chewing::devil:   Fat free Cool Whip is not many calories in a Tbsp........I wish they made smaller bowls of it though.

Junket (Danish Pudding) cooks like cooked pudding...........there are strawberry and raspberry flavors.    You just add water, it looks cloudy red.   Bring it to a boil and boil one minute.   It gets thick, like pudding, and turns into a clear red glaze.   Great for fruits..........I guess I only use it for Strawberry or Raspberry pie. (or use 2 pgks and make it in a 9 X 13 cake pan)

Yeah, I thought those calories weren't bad for a slice of pie.   Of course, I'd probably rather have a real graham cracker crust, but then I'd have the calories from butter and sugar too!   This way, I can have my pie, and not feel guilty

OK..........I WAS RIGHT!   The scale did move

Weight, July 3:  187.4 lbs

I also remeasured myself..........the last one I had recorded was the end of March.   I measure bust, waist, tummy, hips, both thighs, and both arms (biceps area).

Measurements, July 3:   :down_arrow: 5.5 inches

Now I just have to survive the holiday weekend, still in the 180's    I am recording my weights as of Saturday mornings from now on (my "official" ones)   This one is just a peak at the scale, because I could swear my clothes felt looser.

Pat's normal calorie range:  2126 (5 ft 6.5 in, 53 yrs. (soon:shock:), 1-3 days of light activity, 190 lbs)

Thursday, July 3:

BREAKFAST:  2 light egg muffins (360), green tea w/lemon

SNACK:  10 grapes (34), 1/2 c. pineapple (38), Fiber One yogurt (80)

LUNCH:  Oriental salad (369), Strawberry pie (125), McD's cone (150)

SNACK:  2 serv. baked chips  (240)

DINNER:  2 serv. asparagus stir-fry (asparagus, carrots, cauliflower, green beans, thin pasta) (180), 2/3 of a ckn brst strip (44)

SNACK:  mini popcorn (100)

RUNNING TOTAL:   1720

From what I've read online, there are people who do JUDDD DD's on MWF and eat UD's on T, TH, Saturday and Sunday.    They  make Sunday a moderate day.....somewhere between the 500 calories and their maintenance calories.

I wonder if today's big drop on the scale is because I'm back to walking now and drinking more water again.   I didn't have time for either when I had the grandkids there.   I know I drink more on weekdays, when I have a bottle of water on my desk at ALL times!   :glass_water::glass_water::glass_water::glass_water::glass_water::glass_water::glass_water::glass_water::glass_water::glass_water::glass_water::glass_water:

Hi, Your quite right in what you say. A day at a time is all I've got. To be honest that's all I want.
I can deal with life reasonably well (today anyway) if I just think in bite size chunks.

Thanks for your visits. Much appreciated!!

Is that over 2 pounds just from the other day????:shooting_star:  Sweet!!!!!!!!!  I am so excited for you...I accidently started clapping at the screen and my son just looked over at me like I'm nuts or something.

Thanks, Scoobs!   Yes, that is quite a drop..........you should have seen me this morning    Actually, it went to 186.x at first and then settled at 187.4.    It's a good thing I didn't jump up and down on the scale in joy, and break it!

I had worn those white jeans to work on Monday, and when I had them on Wednesday, I could feel a difference.    I was probably carrying some water weight from last week when the munchkins were here..........I wasn't drinking quite as much as I usually do (which is quite a bit).

Today will probably be a bit higher than Tuesday was.   Feeling really munchy :devil::angry:  as you can see, by my having baked chips for a snack.........where's the healthy eating in that?   However, I did weigh them out on my food scale    But, I'd like to finish the whole bag :devil::chewing::chewing:

This weekend will be tough, I think :confused:   If I can just make tomorrow a down day, I think I will be OK.   I picked up some munchies :yum: for the baseball game on Saturday   I told myself it was for the munchkins.......yeah, right!    That's what worries me!

Pat, that's awesome!  I am so glad your new plan is working for you.  All that activity with the grandkids was probably helpful as well.

Have a wonderful 4th and a fun time at the Twins game tomorrow.

Good Morning Beth and Mol!   A Happy 4th of July to you too!   I got up to ice my back early, then dozed in the recliner until 9:30!  Lazy start to this day!   Since then I've been doing laundry, light cleaning and sorting.........lots of stuff laying around after my week of "vacation" with the munchkins.

I feel like today will be a real challenge!   It's a DD.........and I think those are easier to handle when I'm at work and busy.    Today I want to kind of make a lazy day (other than the above mentioned chores).........and to me holidays have usually meant parties or special food.   So, I really want to get the venison brats out of the freezer and open a bag of chips! :yum::chewing::yum::chewing:

FRIDAY, JULY 4TH

10:30 a.m. MEAL 1:  Dannon Light n Fit yogurt (60)

12:45 p.m. MEAL 2:  EAS Vanilla protein shake (110)

5:00 p.m. MEAL 3: 1 radish (1), 3 oz romaine (15), 2 Tbsp. FF Italian dressing (20), Dannon Light n Fit yogurt (40), 205 gr. celery (33) (That's a big bowl of celery!)

7:15 p.m. MEAL 4:  EAS choc protein shake (110),  raspberry tea (5)

9:30 p.m. MEAL 5:  mini popcorn  (100)

RUNNING TOTAL:  494 calories

Found that I was really wanting "real food" as opposed to a protein shake today.   So, I had Meal 3, which was really quite a lot for so few calories.   At the grocery store yesterday, I found a 12-pack of Dannon Yogurt.....three assorted flavors........and only 40-45 calories for 4 oz.

WOW!  What a weekend!   Yes, I did eat too much.........but being I wanted today (Monday) to be a DD and keep to my schedule, we celebrated my birthday a little early.   We were at our son's on Sat. for my "family" birthday party, and last night the hubs took me out to dinner.   We had a lovely dinner, at a casual restaurant in another town.    It has seating out on a glassed in porch, with a gorgeous view of the lake.  It was sooooo peaceful and soooooo relaxing.   Then afterwards, even though it was still 87 degrees and a very high dewpoint at 9:00 p.m........we went for a walk along the lakefront.   A very nice birthday celebration :birthday_cake: but, no cake yet!   Just got a call from one of my SIL's, who wants to take me to lunch today.    It's fun to celebrate on the day too!  Hope she asks where, so I can choose Applebee's, and have that chili-lime chicken spinach salad............so I can keep today under 500 calories and still eat something tonight.

:birthday_cake::gift::birthday_cake: MONDAY, JULY 7TH:

10:30 A.M. MEAL 1:   EAS vanilla shake (110)

12:30 P.M. MEAL 2:   (Applebee's) 1/2 chili-lime chicken salad (125)

8:30 p.m. Meal 3:  the other 1/2 Applebee's salad (125)

9:30 p.m. Meal 4:   mini popcorn (100)

RUNNING TOTAL:  460 CALORIES

Couldn't connect to the internet on Sunday...........it did lightening during church.   Maybe I should pick up a new phone cord and try a different jack.   I wanted so badly to check in on my :cph:  friends.   I see there are lots of diaries I want to comment in.  Maybe later, while I've got some reports printing.

hey pat!  happy to see you had a smashing weekend!  you sound like your spirits are high!

enjoying this nasty humidity?  lol- trying to suck it all up while i can, before i hit AZ.  it's supposed to storm something aweful today though, hopefully drying out the air.

andyway, i keep meaning to find where you started with the new diet.  sounds like it's great for you.  i have to cruise back thourhg a few pages to get to the start.  i have been peicing things together, but i want the whole story!

have a great one and i hope you get your applebees! (oh, and if you go to t.g.i. fridays ever- i just discovered how great thier low cal/fat option of the lime shrimp skewers are.  remember when applebees had the shrimp kabobs?  sort of like those, but i like these better).

Hi Zen!   Thanks for the b-day :birthday_cake: wishes.   I wouldn't miss this humidity either!   As you can see above, I opted for lunch with my sis-in-law, instead of a walk.    When the dewpoints hit the 60's, I am shot!

Started JUDDD on 6/16/08     SW: 196 lbs.

After 1 week:  190.6 lbs

After 2 weeks:  189.6 lbs

After 3 weeks: 7/5/08:  187.4 lbs.

I will post later on some of the things I noticed this weekend about my eating and appetite, Zen.   I really like this WOE.   Keep cool!  :sun::sun::sun:

Pat, you would burn up here.  It's 96 degrees right now with 76% humidity.   I lay low this time of year as I just can't take the heat.  That's why when y'all are still playing in the snow, I am doing my spring yardwork.

I missed your posts after the 4th.  Sorry you were down.  We've lost two computers over the years to lightning.

Happy Birthday!

Yeah, Beth, I knew there was a reason I lived as far north as MN!     I am NOT a :sun:summer:sun: person.............unless I could be at a pool every day!    I didn't mind that 90 degree day here, when I took the munchkins to the pool  :sun::sun::cool::sun::sun:   I love the spring and fall temps..........give me 60's and 70's any time!   Of course, now that I've reached this advanced age (53).........and my hormones are wackier than anything I know.......I almost have heat stroke taking a walk when it's over 70 degrees!

This weekend was interesting..........I definitely noticed some differences in my eating habits........for the good, I think.

First of all, I survived the holiday on Friday with a perfect DD:thumbsup::ribbon::thumbsup:   On Saturday, I started the day off with cereal at around 6:00 a.m.   We ate at Subway (6" veggie sub w/vinegar)around noon, and I wasn't even thinking about or really wanting food.   This is a major change.   So, I'm with you there, Midge..........I read you had a similar experience/feeling one night when you forgot to eat!  :chewing::chewing:

We went to our son and DIL's for my birthday party and he grilled venison brats and hot dogs.   I ate one brat w/ wheat bun, nibbled on fruit and had about a serving of Tostito corn chips with black bean salsa (the chips were regular ones........man!   Are they ever saltier than the baked ones!   We always buy baked, so this was an eye opener for me).   My DIL had fruit pizza for dessert.....much better than a :birthday_cake: and :cone:, that's for sure.   I love  fruit pizza, especially her recipe :yum:

Then we went to the Twins baseball game.   We sat in the family section, which means we got a hot dog and pop or milk with our ticket.   I gave the hot dog to my son-in-law and got the milk for my grand-daughter.   That was an NSV of sorts.   I say that because I wasn't even tempted to eat the hot dog or get a soda pop.   Instead I chugged down 2-$4 bottles of that awful Dasani, that they call water!  (I am so picky about my water :glass_water:)   I did nibble some black licorice and fruit trail mix during the game, but not too much.    On the way home, I finished off the chocolate covered raisins....at least what the grandkids left for me, which was a small handful.

Sunday was much more of an UD..........but, even then, I found that I ate smaller portions, and got full a lot sooner than I used to.   I read in "The Alternate Day Diet" that this would happen........but, I didn't really believe it.    It must have something to do with the low calories on the DD's.   We went out to dinner and I had no desire for a dinner entree..........so I ordered a Philly steak sandwich, which came with chips, and I added a side salad.    I finished the salad (w/fat free ranch drsg)......but could only finish 1/2 the sandwich........and only nibbled a few chips.   The old me, would have polished off every potato chip on that plate.......and there were lots of them.    I couldn't believe that I didn't do that!    The waitress was rather slow.......which gave me every opportunity to continue nibbling on them, and I didn't.

However, I did finish the other half of the sandwich later.   That was uncalled for.  I wasn't really hungry...........I just hated to throw it out, and knew I wouldn't eat it until Tuesday otherwise.:angry:   Oh well, it was my birthday celebration with the hubs, so I'm not going to feel guilty about it.   I was just feeling so good about the changes I noticed    Even though I ate more than my weekday UD's..........it was definitely less than I would have normally eaten on a birthday weekend.   I hope it's a new "normal"

I think this JUDDDD thing has some merits.   And it is so incredibly easy to do, compare to what I thought it would be..........now I will have to see if I experience some of the health effects that the book talks about.

Pat, where can I learn about JUDD?  I tried to google it and all I got was Naomi and
Ashley Judd.

That is really iteresting about your appetite going down.  How long did it take to kick in?

The book said most of the effects kick in somewhere between 2-3 weeks.    I think that's about right.

I think you got Naomi and Wynona because you are missing a "D" or two...........It's the Johnson Up Day Down Day Diet........so JUDDDD.   But, it's kind of been re-name "The Alternate Day Diet"  , after the book.   I think I usually drop the last D, when I type it.

The link is:  http://www.johnsonupdaydowndaydiet.com

I think I'm going to re-read the book again.   There is always so much I miss the first time through.

Thanks, Scoobs    I guess we can't change the fact that we get older........we might as well celebrate it, right?    And I celebrate that, even though I put on weight in the last year...........I am still lighter and healthier now than I was in my 40's!   And I like Pat at 53 better than Pat at 43!

I think the website gives the basics of the JUDDDD plan..........but the book gets into the research, science and results in more detail.    The ultimate results of alternate day dieting seems to be longevity......no matter whether you restrict calories enough to lose weight or not.   That's kind of interesting.

And while Dr. Johnson says it's more important to keep the DD under 500 calories than to restrict calories on your "up days", he also dedicates quite a section of the book to healthy eating, and how important the veggies, fruits, whole grains, good fats are to being healthy.

I have found that as time goes on, I don't want to gorge on those foods anymore.    Maybe it is because I don't feel like I have to deny myself?   It is so easy to restrict the calories for just 1 day at a time!   In your mind, you think "I can have that tomorrow"   Then tomorrow comes, and you don't really feel like you want it anymore.   Then I wonder if your body adjusts to the lower calories, and doesn't feel like it needs so many calories the next day.   I've been losing weight, just doing it 3 days a week.    I hope this feeling continues     Those feelings this weekend were so surprising.   I'd read it in the book, but truly didn't expect to feel them!

Oh, I forgot................I went shopping this weekend!    I love to shop, but rarely get the time to do it.   I get a rather nice "birthday check" from the company and another from my boss.    So, I treated myself to a new pair of walking shoes..........$120 worth! :shock:   Yikes!    Did I really do that?    That's so not "me"!    I always have so much fun finding bargains...........I love it!   But, if I'm going to include walking as a major part of my cardio.............I decided I deserve a good pair of shoes     I'm tired of sore feet from old shoes
