Thanks Suenos for the welcome back!
Last week went well. Food choices on track, morning glucose back under 100, daily treadmill. Need to work back up as the muscles have turned to rubber. Eating and typing during lunch. Tomorrow first weigh in since keeping track on home scale. Fingers cossed.
Hopefully this time around I can work on the all or nothing attitude. Need to figure what I can "live" with. Sometimes I just don't want to.
ARGH!!!! Lunch break over. So much to do and so little time.

Happy Happy Joy Joy
Wednesday AM weigh in 152, that's 3 lbs gone. Yeah. Started spread sheets tracking food values, daily exercise, fasting glucose. I know that when I write my food down it makes me think twice. Maybe when I look at the other stuff it will make me think too. Food consumption still good and treadmill use still happening. Feeling better and have spent more time reading the forums for motivation. GTG using company time.

Started the Challenge by Zen. Want to get my butt on the treadmill daily, or walk the Lake. Made the commitment, now I gotta stick to it. Food choices better than usual, still need to work on the water. Went down memory lane with Abby. That was great. Saw that I was a few diaries from the dreaded 2nd page. All the activity and new members. Another good find... I saw "Cape Coddess" is back. Yeah!

Thanks Pat Looking forward to seeing your posts regularly as you find your commitment. I know you can do it.
Have been awol from posting as I took a few days off from work. Nice L O N G weekend. Kept myself in check, food choices good and yes I was on the treadmill every evening. One night, swinging arms met with swinging kill switch 3 times. Can you think UGH'd Loud and with attitude. D looked at me like "are you nuts" If it would pause it would be O.K. but I loose everything. If I'm not watching the time... I guess or count up from the last I remember.
Having issues with glucose meter. Anyone reading, that uses one, I'd appreciate the input of your experience. Old one read 95, new one read 79 and 83. Blood taken from same area (finger) Need to purchase test strips, pricing similar. New one is faster. Can there be such a discrepancy?
Things going well. Happy Camper

Hey, Lee. I'm glad you're back. You had a question about your glucose meter--DH is diabetic and has checked his meter with a meter at the lab to see if there was any difference. Just an idea.
Congrats on your loss!

Thanks Shelti. I don't have time to wait 'till my next lab results and I can't get them to check it without appointment. So I'll just make a decision based on the easier newer one. My other one is about 5 yrs old. The test strips are nearly the same cost wise. Then I'll see what my A1c is in June. It should be about the same average. If not I'll get another prescription and go back to the old one. Who wouldn't want to see better #'s. Just hopefully not wrong ones.
This mornings weigh in...149... I think. I have an OLD Dial type scale that is probably 25 yrs old. I really don't accept the reading 'till it's 1/2 way between 5lb lines. So the scale dance today was positive with a bit of doubt. Keeping up with the habit challenge. Will post that there.

Good Morning Things have not been going well and I'm battling the demons again. I have however kept the 21 day challenge. Having used my one "day off" I am now without the opportunity to skip a day, even if LIFE happens. So onward and upward. Have made some dietary changes that I will not continue. Purchased South Beach Diet Bars this week instead of Kashi. How sweet they taste in comparison. Even though the carbs are in my rage of acceptability not a good choice for me. They are all gone and even though it was a good sale it is not on my list. Snacking in the evening while reading is the other I have been faced with. As I have stated before reading = mindless eating. Purchase a new snack mix with Cheerios. Looked at the cal info, carbs, serving size. OK give it a whirl also not a good thing. Read ingredients at home... partially hydrogenated oils and sugars. Oh well. That is gone too! Sorry guys it didn't make it to the garbage can as it should have. Book will be finished soon and I will be doing some sort of craft or anything else to keep my hands out of the snack bowl. This has resulted in a 1 lb. gain this week. Back to 150. O.K. getting back in the saddle again.
On the personal side of life.... good and bad happen. Our company is now on a 4 day work week! NO not 40 hrs, 32. This now gives me Fri off and a 3 day weekend. NO $$ to do anything on those 3 days, but plenty of time to get my house in order. Literally and figuratively. Life is throwing me too many curve balls lately and I need to sit down and work things out. My biggest dilemma is financial security. Need to draw the picture and make decisions.

Good Morning Lea
Sorry to hear about your work hours being cut back, That is a bummer and sometimes when one door shuts a better one opens. I am hoping that for you.
I never throw out food although I hear a lot of people doing that. Guess I work too hard for my money and temptation is always staring us in the face anyway. I ate one of those cereal bars for my mid morning snack yesterday as I was on my way to town at the time and I also found it too sweet. I always carry these with me but perhaps a fruit would be better. But with diabetes something that keeps in the glove compartment is handy to have.
Wishing you all the best and don't worry that extra lb will come off. The temptation to eat while reading is great ... makes one so relaxed...so I like to work with it not against it try tea, carrots or whatever takes your fancy.
Take care....Maggie

To those of you who read, I haven't posted in forever but I'm lurking and reading my emails. Not sure what I'm doing about the website transfer yet.
Today is an exceptional day. Dr. visit went extremely well. All those #'s they record for the Insurance to monitor were spot on. A1c was 6.1, (with medication) total chol. was 168 LDL 91, HDL 60 (without medication) and weight...141. 10 to go to get back to where I was 2 years ago. I haven't felt deprived, I believe the brain has finally given up the fight and realizes there's no use.
The questions that were asked this time were different. Smoke no Drink no Do you exercise And I answered proudly yes 5mi a day. Drink caffiene Green Tea in the AM and occasional Cold Tea, unsweetened when I'm out. Are you on a diet I eat well if that's what you mean. This is the 1st time I have been asked more than the smoke and drink questions. Not sure where that puts me with the insurance mongers but I was definitely proud to answer them this time.
O.K. now on to loosing the last 10.
Back to work.

Thanks Maggie for the vote of confidence. I WANT the last 10 to magically disappear but we all know that will not happen. I am finally comfortable in my skin. At least lately I have been. I want a lower #, I'm O.K. with how I feel. I'd love for the 10 to be removed from my waist if dreams do come true. BUT knowing how things usually work the "girls" will be less inflated and my derriere will be flatter. As the age increases and the weight decreases I have gone to the animals. I have Turkey neck, chicken skin and charpe butt. Unfortunately I have not been blessed with resilient skin. OH WELL! Makes choosing clothes more FUN, challenging ON a positive note I have been blessed with a boyish shape, even at 50. NOPE voluptuous I'm not, JLo butt, NOT happening in my lifetime, and the "girls" don't get in the way. Yes there is a positive thing happening here. I belong to the "Tiny Hiney" club. YES I can wear those cute PLAID shorts and not look like the broad side of a barn anymore.
I am also proud to type... I have been walking the Hamster Wheel most days and am currently working at 6 mi a day between 4-4.3.
Personal life is pretty good too. Work is as good as it gets. 5 days a week and most days are good. Love life pretty good too. Have been spending time with someone I enjoy. We have progressed to including our daughters in this friendship. Having a wonderful time, either alone or with them. He encourages me in many ways. We both know the weight/health difficulties. We share our victories and defeats, and remind each other to keep on track. Life's Good at the moment.
Well Diary I need to get moving the laundry and hamsters await.

OK, so I did this post and I have no idea where it went. If someone sees a post from me in the wrong place...send it home.
Amazing, it has been over a YEAR and 1/2 since I've posted.
UPDATE: Daughter now has her AS degree in Communications. Still loving the Band thing and taking the classes. Can you be graded on Hanging out in the Band Room?
Me, weell. Back to where I have been before. Last Dr.'s appt was NOT good! Dr. prescribed another drug, this time for BP. NOPE, not gonna fill it. In the past I have reduced it with diet and exercize. So I'm back on the wagon. Making good choices, watching how much, and getting off my arse.
Have read my CPH forums email and glad to see many names I remember. Hope all of you are doing well. Keeping the upper hand in the battle.

Good Morning Everyone
Thanks Pat and Maggie for the visit and good words.
This past week went fairly well. Still working on the BINGE factor. Although a better food to binge, triscuits = fiber. Still, the act needs to be worked on. Exercize was pretty good too. Walking with the girls at work 3 x 10min a day during breaks. Walking with the man after work. Hitting the Hamster wheel when that is not possible. Only one day this week I felt like a slacker. It was encouraged by the man, who after working that day said it was too cold. Yes sunny FLA has been a bit nippy, especially since we are accustomed to heat & humidity. Add in the "wind chill", something else we don't see much of, it is BRRR COLD.
Have been writing food and nutrition facts this week and found my favored flat bread is HIGH in sodium. Since the BP is up, something I need to be mindfull of. DERN!!! Finding I need to keep the "prepared" foods to 1 meal a day to keep the sodium in check. Even the "reduced" and "low" sodium things are fairly high. Making my own/cooking ahead would be best.
The scale this morning was consistant and I have removed 10lbs since begining in Jan. The old dial seems to be settled on the same place the last few days so I guess I can count it. Looking forward to getting it below the 150 mark in a few lbs. Hoping the BP machine at wally world is in service so I can check the more important #.
Hope this finds you well and wishing you strength for better choices.

Yep, it's been a while. Not AWOL just a little busy. I work an evening job as well as my reduced full time position. Between that and appointments, not much time to post. I have been reading my mail though.
Nothing special to report on the weight loss front. Status quo and holding my own. Not much time for a real workout. Walking during the day weather permitting at break and lunch. A few evening walks with the man at his pace. Any movement helps, conversation is good. Look out hamsters, I'm headed your way today.
Still working on the eating too much, although better choices, not conducive to weight loss. Made my daughter hide the Girl Scout cookies she bought. DON"T WANT TO EVEN SEE THEM!!!! Easier since she didn't buy MY favorite.
GTG, thing to do. Wishing everyone strenght and good choices.

Hi Lee
Thought I would drop by and wish you well. Good for you for making the Girl Guide Cookies be hid. My hubby keeps his goodies hid from me, although I know where they are!!! But out of sight, out of mind most of the time.
All those 10 minute walks on your breaks at work are very helpful at keeping sugars down, BP also I would think.
Thanks for visiting my diary. I appreciate your comments.
We are going to loose this weight.

Maggie: Daughter left 1/2 a box of pnut butter sandwich cookies ON THE COMPUTER DESK!! Moved them out of sight and kept going. AHH, thankfully I'm focused. AND she has the nerve to buy my FAVORITE Jelly Beans. Fruit flavored. AMAZINGLY I had only ONE! Wed. she went to store for milk... She also bought a box cake mix AND frosting. I asked where she was taking THAT!! "Grandma asked me to get it so we can bake a cake".
OK Lord, I see the testing, can you let up on the frequency, PLEASE? 3 weeks till bloodwork, 4 till I see the DR. Trying to make livable changes, working on the ALL or NOTHING attitude I struggle with. My mind knows this is for a lifetime, I just haven't mastered the commitment to it.
Scale dance this AM was positive Fluxuating needle, not accurate but still a view to what is happening. Dr. scale will be the accurate account. I remember that awfull # VERY well.
Strengh to everyone for good choices.

Good Morning everyone. Busy few weeks. Food choices not stellar but acceptable.
Exercise, fairly consistent. Yesterday was a birthday breakfast for a 17yr old. This Yankee in a Southern world doesn't eat that way, even if I could. The Birthday boys Momma is a great cook. The smorgasbord of food was amazing and cooked all that AM. My choice was scrambled eggs that didn't look or taste like they were cooked in butter or bacon/sausage grease. Fried veges yes I could taste the grease, 2 strips of crispy bacon (Yummy) sliced strawberries and a small biscuit. Oh and a baby pancake. All the other things that I don't really like were scarfed by the guys who seem to not have a problem with eating it. Tomato gravy? OK I get the sausage gravy. Cinna buns. ALL Kinds of stuff. Oh and the B'day boy wanted Choc. cake. Grammy and Auntie bake for their "party" business. From scratch Choc. cake with Bavarian cream filling. Sliced strawberries. SORRY DOC, I couldn't pass that up. All said & done I was in control. That wonderful food sent me to the lake with energy to spare. Twice around, 5&3/4 mi. Beautiful day so I sat and watched water skiing and playing of the local kids.
Came home to depress myself. Did the taxes and I am receiving a deposit from the government, that is good! Bad thing is with all the cut backs I made 5K less than the previous year. AND that includes a few months of a 2nd job. OK I'll stop witching and be thank full I am still holding my own and there is no one knocking on my door or calling me looking for $$.
Lab work on schedule for this week. Dr. appointment pushed out a couple weeks. She "will be out of the office". Oh well. A couple more weeks to lower the blood pressure and weight. Have been checking the bp at Wally World and grocery store. Bottom # down in the acceptable range. Top # being stubborn. Maybe the meds are in my future?
Hope all are doing well and wishing you strength for good choices.

Appreciate the visits Maggie & Suenos.
Well I caved and began the BP meds. BP was Not comming down. Gave up most of the caffiene. Watched the sodium. Walking more and eating fairly clean. Not comming down enough. Started the medicine, within a few days it was in the normal range. Will check it again when I go shopping if it works and not out of service.
NSV... I am almost caffiene free. 1/2 a pot a day habit is down to 1-2 cups of green tea. No soda, just water during the day. An occasional cold tea when out for dinner. YEAH!! Scale solid at 145 in the AM YEAH!! Dr Visit next week so Hopefully that will be good too!
Wishing everyone strength for good choices.

It's been over a year since I posted. Stopped back in to record this for posterity. Weight is down almost where I'd like it after ballooning to 165 the beginning of the year. Another threat from the Dr. Yep!! This time I am doing better with the all or nothing. Made it to my 3 month check up with stellar #'s. Did NOT binge after. Yes I had a few things that are not healthy but IMO tasty. Then went right back to eating like I should. Keeping the exercise to what works for me without feeling like it's too much. We'll see what the next Dr. visit brings. I continue to remind myself "you don't want to undo all the work and goals you've accomplished." Or think "what will I have to do to wear this off". "How bad will my #'s be in the AM". Yes I the smaller clothes. Shopping in the back of the closet. Finding something that fits again! YEAH!! But the ultimate (for me) is How do I feel? Lately... "I feel good"
Onward I will walk, with the wisdom of my experiences.
Hope everyone is well, and giving it their best shot!!

Hi Lee!
So glad you stopped in and caught us up with how you are doing! Sounds like you are doing great! You know, I do that a lot too............I think more now, on the affect my eating will have on my body and my general health. Or I think on the content of the food I plan to eat, and if I really want to mess up all my healthy eating with some junk, just because it used to taste good to me. If I give in..........I usually find that it really doesn't taste that good anymore. Of course, I haven't had cheesecake yet!

OH NO The dreaded Cheese Cake. Had that last week. The baker made it with splenda, just for me. Although I'm sure the cream cheese wasn't low fat. It was to dense/thick. Made me a baby cheese cake. YES, IT WAS GOOD!!
I think, the thinking comes with age. (1) We take the time to think. (2) It is SOOO much harder to lose it once it packs on. (3) We often hear about it from the Dr. All that hard work undone for a moment on the lips. Not to mention the medication changes. HMM is it REALLY worth it?
Hope the house painting is going well. Thankfully you have a house to paint.
Have a wonderful weekend!
