My name is Heather and this is my online diary. I am podcaster, wife, and part-time office assistant. You can check out my podcast at http://www.ageekandhiswife.net/
My husband and I have been dealing with secondary infertility for over 4 years now, and placed our first born in an open adoption, because we were still in high school when I got pregnant. My main reason for wanting to drop weight and get healthier quickly is because we are out of other options if we want to have more biological children. All our test results have come back normal, and changing my weight and getting healthier is our last ditch effort before we have to consider adoption. I am 31 years old, and I don't feel like I have 1 or 2 years to put on hold while I try and make these changes. So that led me to the decision to use the HCG protocol (drops).
I am considered obese, and weighed in at 223lbs before I started changing my diet and exercising more in the beginning of Aug. My husband and I joined a gym and started eating healthier and slowly started losing weight, me slower than him and he was barely overweight to begin with. Towards the end of Sept I started really struggling with this "new way of living" and found myself sneaking sweets back into my diet. I was feeling discouraged by how slowly I was losing, and how fast my husband was losing. He lost 15lbs in 6 weeks and it was noticeable. As I sit here typing, he's getting ready to head out to buy himself some new jeans. I felt like I needed to do something different, something more, before I had a complete backslide into my old habits of eating whatever I wanted. It was a hard decision that lead me to the HCG Protocol, but one I stand by and am already doing so please don't discourage me. I like that it lays EVERYTHING out for you, by telling you exactly what you can drink and eat. Having a grocery store of options was too much for me and my lack of will power. I also like that the HCG drops keep me accountable, which is something that I've needed. If I take the drops, then I have to be on the 500 calorie diet, plain and simple. These 2 things really appealed to me, knowing the type of person I am. Plus seeing the weight loss each morning is a real motivator.
So here I am. Doing something I swore I'd never do (a fad diet), and logging my progress on the internet for the world to see. If anyone else took to the time to read this whole thing, feel free to say hello and offer some words of encouragement.
Now, on to the stats, time-line, and log...- August 5, 2010 - Joined LA Fitness
- August 7, 2010 - First day of eating healthier / first day at the gym (223 lbs)
- October 3, 2010 - Bought the HCG Platinum drops from my local GNC
- October 4, 2010 - 1st day on the protocol - Binge day (213.6 lbs)
From here on out the days listed will be the the days on the 500 calorie diet, not the total days on the protocol.

Notes: So far so good I guess. Each day that I stick with it is another day closer to the end of the protocol. I can't say it's the most ideal diet, but I still feel like this is something I can see to the end. The first couple days on the drops I experienced some side effects, but those have since been gone, and now the only thing I'm dealing with is hunger pains and other side effects from such a low calorie diet. I really need to be more diligent about eating at regular intervals. The increased water consumptions has also been difficult. I feel like I spend half my day in the bathroom, and I'm sure I'm spending more money on tp now. LOL Oh well, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'm really stressing out about tonight. I'm going to a good friend's bachelorette party and there will be food there. I'm arriving an hour late, so I'll be missing dinner, but the food will still be there. And I'm sure people will be arriving late and eating in front of me. Thinking about it stresses me out and makes me want to bite my nails, which I've also given up.
I'm just going to go and have fun, drink lots of water, and save an apple snack for later, so if I get the urge I'll have something to eat. I will be triumphant!
I have control over what goes in my body! Food has no control over me!
Wish me luck!

Home from the bachelorette party and.... I DID IT!!! I didn't give in to temptation! One more day pretty much done. One more battle won. I'm so glad that I went, and was there to help my friend celebrate her upcoming nuptials. Now, time for bed. Good night

Day 4 - October 9th - 209.8 lbs (.8 lbs lost)
• Breakfast - 12oz green tea - no milk or sweetener
• Lunch - 4oz cooked chicken beast with salad greens and balsamic vinegar
• Snack - 1 Honeycrisp apple
• Dinner - 4 oz cold cooked chicken breast, and 1/3 of a cucumber
• Snack - 1/2 grapefruit
• Water consumption - unknown, but definitely less than it should have been
Notes: It will be interesting to see what the scale looks like tomorrow morning, cause my day was all out of whack. I fasted in the morning and saved up both my snacks and dinner til I was out at the bachelorette party so most of my food was consumed after 7pm. I also stayed up late, and danced a lot. Plus I didn't drink enough water. It was nice not spending most of the day in the bathroom. LOL We'll see...
P.S. I can't wait to get under 200 lbs. That will be an amazing feeling!

Hello Heather! Well, congratulations on resisting temptation during the bachelorette party! I've always found parties and restaurants to be the most difficult times to 'be good' but if you think in advance about what you will eat it makes it much easier (and you planned ahead and saved up your calories - wonderful!). I also saw that you were out dancing, which is great exercise!! I love dancing too.
I have a cousin who wasn't able to get pregnant until she lost a lot of weight and now she's a glowing mom to a beautiful 1-year-old girl. So there's lots of hope and optimism coming from me to you. Congratulations on your progress so far, and I hope you will keep up your journal, it was key to me in my weight loss journey. Have a great day!

Unfortunately today is going really wrong! I was hoping to be able to sleep in today, because I stayed up late last night, but I woke up at my usual time and couldn't fall back asleep despite staying in bed for an additional hour. And this isn't the first time I've lost sleep on this diet. Has anyone else experienced sleep loss on this diet? I was hoping I could just sleep my way through the 30 days, but that's not happening AT ALL! I also woke up with a killer headache. I suppose that could have contributed to not being able to fall back asleep this morning too. I took some aspirin, but that didn't even phase it, and now (4 hrs later) I'm in full on migraine mode, and I finally decided to take a narcotic. I am praying that does the trick, because I'm not leaving this bed today until it's gone. At least it's my day off. On a side note, I'm staying strong and true to the diet. I just hope that's not what's causing this headache. Life really sux sometimes!

Thanks so much Molly. I really hope losing weight does the trick, but getting pregnant isn't my problem. Staying pregnant is. I've had 8 failed pregnancies in the last 4 years, and we're at a loss as to why. So here I am, trying to lose weight and get healthier.

Day 5 - October 10th - 209.0 lbs (.8 lbs lost)
• Breakfast - 1/2 Honeycrisp apple
• Lunch - 4oz cooked chicken beast with salad greens and balsamic vinegar
• Snack - 1 Honeycrisp apple
• Dinner - 4 oz cold cooked chicken breast, and 1/3 of a cucumber
• Snack - 1/2 Honeycrisp apple
• Water consumption - 112+oz (3.31+liters)
Notes: Each day brings new challenges, new temptations to resist, and new hunger pains to deal with. Fortunately, it doesn't seem to be getting any hardy. It's not getting any easier, but I expected it to become more difficult to resist temptation the longer you're on a low calorie diet. So I guess that's one somewhat pleasant surprise.

Day 6 - October 11th - 208.6 lbs (.4 lbs lost)
• Lunch - 4oz cooked chicken beast with salad greens and balsamic vinegar
• Snack - 1 Honeycrisp apple
• Dinner - 4 oz fresh cod w/lemon juice, 2c broccoli & 1 melba toast
• Snack - 1 Honeycrisp apple & 1 melba toast
• Water consumption - 112oz (3.31+liters)
Notes: I am hungry! Guess it's time for bed and to start all over again tomorrow. I hope I'm not disappointed by the scale tomorrow like I was this morning. I'm doing everything by the book, and all I get it .4 lbs? If I'm putting my body through this #%@&! then I want better results than that! Ugh! I just have to keep reminding myself that it's my own dang fault that I am where I am. I could have chosen to eat better a long time ago before I got this overweight. Life sux sometimes!

Up and getting ready for work. I hate working on this diet. My brain doesn't seem to function at full capacity, and it's embarrassing when it's so obvious that you're off your game. Ugh!
I can haz month off?

• Snack - 1 baked Honeycrisp apple w/Sweet 'N Low

I'M BACK IN THE GAME BABY! WOO HOO!
According to the scale this morning, I lost a whole pound yesterday. That makes me so happy right now. I was afraid that the weight loss was going to get smaller and smaller until I lost nothing at all or even gained. Especially since I've been working so hard and going by the book and not cheating even once.
Let's try and figure out what I did differently yesterday:- I increased my drops to 11 each serving to get me through the plateau
- I drank 12oz of green tea (even though I forgot to list it on yesterday's entry)
- I ate 1/2 a grapefruit instead of an apple for one of my snacks
I think that about covers it. I am going to reduce my drops back down today and consume grapefruit and green tea like yesterday, and see if I get similar results. I'm a little concerned about running out of drops before 30 days, cause those things are expensive. Wish me luck. Only time will tell.

Day 8 - October 13th - 207.2 lbs (1 lb lost)
• Breakfast - Green Tea
• Lunch - 4oz cooked chicken beast and cooked broccoli
• Snack - 1 melba toast and 1/2 grapefruit
• Dinner - 4 oz cold chicken breast and salad greens w/ balsamic vinegar
• Snack - 1 melba toast and 1/2 grapefruit
• Water consumption - unknown - too busy to keep track
Notes: Had a fun day with my sister on her side of town. Can't believe it had been a couple months since I last saw her. She had lost 18lbs herself. She's thin and looks amazing. Our family photoshoot next month is gonna be killer!

I am hungry all the time! I cry because I'm so hungry! It's not right that I should feel this way! How long can a person keep going like this? I don't think those drops do anything but leave a bad taste in my mouth.
