Deanna - Sweet Oolong Revolution is one of my FAVORITE teas! The other two oolongs I absolutely LOVE are Utopian Jewel Oolong and Formosa Nut Oolong. I am not sure which one of the 3 I love best, but maybe Utopian Jewel very slightly edges the other two out. I agree with you... Teavana teas ARE awesome!
Prose - I have so many Teavana teas I am trying to drink them up, so I can try some new ones. I have not tried the coconut aloha, sour cherry seranade, or irish breakfast yet. I like the Pistachio Apple Pie Rooibos and have the Rooibos Toffee, but haven't tried that one yet. I am going to try it this weekend and I will let you know. I love toffee and the name just sounds good! The Sweet Oolong Revolution is a must! But when you go to the store, make a point to smell the Utopian Jewel Oolong. It will be tough to turn it down. I guess it all depends on your taste. I am not a big fruity person, as I go more for the floral and nutty flavors, but The Utopian Jewel and a couple others that had fruit pieces were surprisingly exceptional. The ginseng vitality is also amazing!
For ice tea, what they suggest is to double the amount of tea used. If you are going to sweeten the tea, then they say to add the rock sugar (or your sweetener) during the brew process and not after. Then pour the freshly brewed tea in a container filled with ice to cool it down immediately, which keep the flavor and scent of the tea intact. If you go to the link called Gourmet Iced Teas on the below link, it will explain this and give you ideas for which teas make the best iced tea. Some of the teas I have read people didn't like hot but loved cold. So far, though, I have not had a tea I did not like from Teavana. That is actually a problem because I want to try new ones, but also want to restock my old ones as they are so good! Reading the reviews by customers on each page really help you get an overall idea of the tea.
You might want to check out a page on Teavana's site that gives people that are new to tea more information. The topics are:
Types of Teas
Health Benefits of Tea
Why Choose Teavana Teas?
How to Prepare Tea
Why Loose-leaf Tea?
Recommended Ideas
Gourmet Iced Teas
How to Store Tea
Tea Blending
Teapot Symbols and Meanings
Green Tea Ice Cream
This is the link to that page: http://www.teavana.com/c=new_to_tea/shop.axd/Static
Pretty soon we will have everyone on FL4I drinking Teavana tea! It is hard not to be excited about them, when they are so fabulous. They are the best teas I have ever tasted!

Web~ what are infusions? I am sorry to hear you are not watching "24".
Thanks for all the info on how to store the tea. I went to World Market today and got two compartment tin and I will put the other two in an airtight tuperware like Prose said.

| Kitty - Infusions are a blend of herbs and fruit, and I don't believe they have any of the tea (the plant it comes from). That is what herbal "tisanes" are. Maybe there are some tea infusions (not sure), but I am pretty sure infusions don't normally have actual tea in them.

Okay tea lovers..I have tried two of the teas. I tried the most expensive one first...tasted bitter to me (Imperial Acai Blueberry)didn't taste any blueberry. I added some agave syrup and that helped. Now...the sour cherry serenade...is awesome hot and cold. I bought it for iced tea....but it's good hot. So I have one left to try...the azteca fire...i'll let you know if i like it...i'm worried about the chili pepper or whatever that spice is...have a great weekend everyone!!!!

Kitty - It is very important to brew the tea for ONLY the time specified for that particular tea. Some teas it is 2-3 minutes and some 5-6 minutes. If you brew certain teas for longer than suggested, they taste bitter. The temperature of the water also makes a difference when brewing so you don't overbrew something due to the water not being hot enough. I don't know if this is the case with you, but it is something to keep in mind. I haven't tried the Imperial Acai Blueberry one yet. I will find out which one you can blend the Acai Blueberry tea with, which may work for you.
Prose - I just remembered something I meant to say... the Silver Needle is a great tea, and very healthy. It is a little pricey, but I got it mainly to mix with other teas. I believe you can add the Silver Needle to any tea for a blend.

Web, I did use a thermometer when i brewed it and i had to double the steep time for iced tea, but maybe next time i won't double the steep time. do you all always use a thermometer to check the temp. or do you know by now how long to micro it...you are microwaving it right???

Kitty - No, I don't use my thermometer when microwaving anymore, as I know how long it takes to get to a certain temp now from testing it before. But I think I am going to get the "perfect teamaker" from Teavana, as it is supposed ot be pretty cool and easy to use. Two friends have it and love it. But at work it is much easier to micro. I was going to mention to you that the chili in the Azteca Fire is hardly noticeable at all (except visually). So it shouldn't be a problem for you. As a matter of fact, I bet if you didn't know it was in there you would never guess. You can add a little sweetener and a splash of milk or soy milk, and it is such a treat. Let me know what you think as I am curious.

The Nonfat Chat is now serving... Teavana teas! Oh my goodness, I just tried the Rooibos Toffee I purchased a week or two ago... it is soooooooooooooo good! I added a little sweetener and a splash of 2% milk and it is definitely a dessert in a cup. I actually was working on something when it was steeping, and I forgot about it. It was steeping for about 15 + minutes and when I remembered about it, it was dark like coffee. I thought, "Oh no, I ruined it", but it is fabulous! This is how Teavana describes it:
A decadent blend of red Rooibos with white chocolate pieces, toffee bits, candied hazelnut pieces and crushed cocoa beans. If you are a fan of tiramisu, this tea is a must. Contains nuts and milk products.

Prose - Really? I will try that tonight! Thanks! I am on my 2nd cup of the toffee right now. I made a pdf today of most of the information on the "New To Tea" on the Teavana site. If you want a copy you can have on your computer without having to go back to the site all the time, I can email it to you (PM me). Maybe you might like it too, Kitty?

Web~sure send it to me.. that would be great. I was thinking about copying the back of one of the teas so I can have a handy sheet about temps, steep times, etc. then I could make a note how long in the micro to get the temp I want without having to use a thermometer each time. Thanks!!

yesterday I mixed relutionary with snow peach with some left over green tea with honey and mint leaves and it was the best ice tea ever(no way to repeat it since it was all an accident like
a soup you started a week ago)....I had a few sips and thought I will have this today....I went to get it....gone....my husband drank the whole bottle(2 or 3 glasses) at once....when I asked him how it was he said "I don't know...it was iced tea"......typical...it could have been anything and he would have just gulped it down.

Hi Kitty...I sometimes take shredded green cabbage, shredded carrots or red cabbage, diced red pepper and celery and make coleslaw....or I have taken tomato juice or broth and added veggies and cumin for soup. I also take green beans, diced tomatoes, zucchini and peppers or onions add garlic, oregano and basil and make an Italian vegetable dish. I don't know if this will help inspire some ideas.
Hi Deanna...great to see you! Bummmmmmmer on the iced tea...you've got to try to duplicate that recipe....sounds sooo yummy!

Kitty - What about a stir fry with 4 allowed veggies (asparagus, broccoli, onions, spinach/bokchoy?). You could do PAM instead of oil. Just a thought.
Deanna - Sorry about your DH drinking your iced tea! I had the ginseng vitality with peach tranquility and it was a nice mixture.
Junebug - Yay! We love to have another tea snob along! You are going to love it! The Azteca Fire and Rooibos Toffee can be oversteeped (in my opinion), but the rest... follow the directions. You have to make sure you do the amounts and steep times just right. It will say on the label for each tea. It can really make a difference. If you are trying to replace coffee, you might try the mate vana. What a treat these teas are! I can't wait to hear your critiques!

Hey everyone..
web I would love if you could send the teavana info to me, I will PM you. thanks!
Kitty, I have been doing salad & raw veggies. One day I did steamed ribbon veggies (carrots(thought they were allowed) squash & zucchini & onions, added garlic & pepper) use a veggie peeler & make ribbons, then just steam them for like 3minutes. So easy & looked gorgeous!!! Also have done what Web said about stir fry a bunch of veggies, Costco has a great mixed bag of oriental type that have big broccoli, red peppers & stuff, I just don't eat the little baby corns.
Hope all of you had a great day! Off to get my son in bed.... Cheers.

Prose~thanks for your suggestions. I had made some marinara sauce (tomatoes, garlic, onion) so I saute some zucchini and put a little sauce over them..that makes 4 veggies...right?? It was yummy!
About tea~ I made the blueberry/acia tea again. only let it steep one min. I read the white tea time not the flavored white tea time...delicious...i can taste the blueberries too! So thanks Web for telling me about the one min.steep.

I told you it was amazing!!! Isn't it the best? I think the chili scares some people off just seeing it listed, but you cannot even tell (taste-wise)! I love it soo much! I took some to my daughter's yesterday and made it for her and she could not believe it was tea! Every time I try a new tea from Teavana I get so excited as there are so many "treats". Don't you feel like you should feel guilty after drinking the Azteca Fire? I do, and then I remember it is tea and I think... COOL!

Well my trip to Teavana went well, at least I spent a resonable amount. They did not have everything I wanted but did get the pistachio apple pie rooibos, utopian jewel oolong & the ginseng vitality.
Could you put them (the bag of tea) in tupperware to keep them fresh?
I think in the future I will just order online, my reason for this is exactly what you guys warned me about...the salespeople. I know it is there job to up sell, but they always try to get you to buy two teas for every one, as they say which ones are good to mix together. Last time I got in big trouble with that as I hate to say NO!!! Also I requested 2oz of each one & after she rang it up they were, 2.5oz, 2.4oz & 2.2oz...Doesn't seem like that much extra but it does add up.
Anyways I had the utopian jewel & really like it! I think I need to test the temp of my water & see how I am doing. How many cups do you get out of that one Web?
Kitty so glad you like the azteca fire!!! I really love that one too.
I can't believe the calories would amount to much if any, especially if you don't add any sugar or that rock sugar they offer.
I think were all ADDICTED!!!!

Prose - I think the Utopian Jewel Oolong is 1.5 tsp. per serving, and they said you should get 20 cups out from 2 oz. I get 2 cups out of one steep of that one. Doesn't it taste as good as it smells? The Ginseng Vitality makes very good iced tea, as well as hot tea. Last week when I had my friend pick up the teas for me, they did the same thing... gave me 2.5 or so on some teas, and over 3 oz of one tea alone. That does add up, especially if you get a few different teas. So you have to be assertive and tell them ONLY 2 oz, no more, or order online (but online ordering has a $4.99 shipping charge for orders under $50 - over $50 is free), so I guess you have to decide what is best. I don't mind too much on most of the tea I get, as I share with others to let them try it. But when I first order a new tea, I only want 2 oz to try it out. Also, I tried your suggestion of mixing the Rooibos Toffee with the Pistachio Apple Pie, and it was yummy. Thanks!
Soon Junebug and Agl will be joining the conversation. We may have to make a separate thread for "Teavana Teas" . (Just kidding!) Now this is all Zeva's "fault" for telling us about it in the first place. THANK YOU, Zeva!

Has anyone heard of this diet before?
THE WINE DIET
The concept behind the Wine Diet is uncannily simple. First begin the preparation of each evening meal by opening a bottle of inexpensive Chardonnay, Merlot or Pino Grigio. Then while preparing the meal, sip often from the uncapped spirits until the bottle is empty.
Once you find yourself on the kitchen floor puking your guts out, you will notice that your appetite has been severely depressed, and it is time to simply go to bed.
In the morning you are unlikely to want to be even within sight of food, much less able to hold it down. By the afternoon you may be able to tolerate some Melba toast and cottage cheese. And by dinnertime you will probably feel pretty chipper again.
Now repeat.

Hi Kitty...I leave the tea in the bags they come in. This last time I did put the bag into individual tupperware containers as I did not want to spend the money on the large tins. I think it will be fine in a dark cupboard.
I also loved David Cook, also Chris Daughtry! I saw that Lil Rounds was sent home but missed the end so did not see the second person. I feel the same way about Adam, I look forward all week to see what he is going to do! Not really looking forward to the entire show so that is kinda funny. I also really like Danny G. He seems so genuine & sincere plus amazing vocals!
Well offtopic, but I should have lost an extra 5 pounds tonight due to worry & stress!!! Does that happen? I missed Idol because one of our horses was really sick. Long story cut very very short ~ he had gotten very ill almost 2 yrs ago & we almost lost him. He has had a very rough road thru his recovery & is making progress, it is just very slow. He has a serious condition now which is a result of the original illness that just is a rollacoaster! He is very sensitive & had been in a stable condition but had a really rough night. I just came in from the barn & he is doing much much better. Will keep my eye on him for another few hours before going to bed. So I thought I would have a cup of TEA to calm my nerves. What an emotional night!!! Somethings are just so difficult as he has been thru so much & so many ups & downs but is getting better slowly..you just never know when to keep going or when to feel it just might not be meant to be. Such a tough place to be as I keep telling myself this could be the last DIP of the ride & it might be all good from here.
Also found out tonight that my BIL lost his job at General Motors today! Just a terrible situation!!! Absolutely no jobs for these guys here in MI at this point as there are so many out of work already. My DH works at Chrysler so this hits so close as we are keeping out fingers crossed as thats all we can do. Hopefully he will be safe & we will make it thru all of this crazyness.
Tomorrow will be a better day ~ it has too!
Hugs to all of you~

Hi PR...so sorry to hear about your ailing horse...that must be so hard to have him struggling and not have too much you can do to help....very emotionally hard when he is so special to you! My thoughts are with you!
These are tough times economically for so many as well...sadly your BIL is in a big boat with many other Americans....we're all holding our breath wondering what to do next!
Have that cup of tea . Take care!

Prose~ so sorry to hear your news...Like Sunshine said....we are holding our breathe to see what happens next...How is your horse doing today???
American Idol..yes I also liked Chris Daughtry...although he is doing just fine for not winning....we must have the same tastes in music!!!! Even tho we are not in the same generation...A little story....when my son and I would drive, when he was traveling to play tennis, I would put the radio to classic rock(my stuff) and I would try to have him listen to the voice and tell my what person or group it was... well he got quite good at it...so now, when he is out with the parents of the kids he teaches tennis to, and a classic rock song comes on, he can name it and they are so suprised that a 26 yr. old knows who it is...he loves that...
Weigh in tomorrow...my year anniversary...even though on my name its not..i waited a couple of months reading before I couldn't take it anymore and had to participate...and I am sure glad I did...even though I have never seen most of you....you are all special to me and glad you're in my life.....

Thanks for the thoughts you guys~it means alot. Hunter is doing better today still pretty sore but nothing like last night. Might have up to a week before we get back to were we were & he becomes a stable patient again. He is more comfortable & eatting so thats good.
My cup of tea helped & I am looking forward to a full nights sleep tonight of course after Greys & Private Practice!!! My favorites. I did realize I was not getting my water hot enough to brew my tea, so it is working much better. I LOVE the utopian jewel & also the ginseng vitality!!!
Glad the cycle is about over as I am looking forward to a worry free weekend.

Kitty - I empty the teas into the tins. I have several of the 3 oz tins and some 6 oz and a couple 9 oz. So the small and medium tins would be impossible to put the bags in. I know that in the bags alone the tea won't last as long as if they are in tins. The only other thing I do is if I don't have enough of the smaller tins, I put the tea in zip lock baggies and may be 3 in one big tin with the label on the baggie. But if you have an airtight container like Prose and the tupperware, you could easily leave them in the bags for identification purposes. I have too many teas now and I am trying to drink up the older ones. I got 3 more teas today! White Ayurvedic Chai (I mix it with the Silver Needle and it makes out of this world iced tea!), ChocoNut Green tea and Apricot Caramel Torte. I am taking the ChocoNut Green tea with me to work tomorrow. I am so addicted to these teas, it is not funny! I drink them everyday at work ( 4 cups) and usually have one in the evening before I go to bed. And I forgot to tell you yesterday, but I drank the Azteca Fire and for the first time I actually tasted the chili powder! It was slightly fiery in the back of my throat when I drank it, and I loved it even more! I wonder if that first batch I got just didn't have much of the chili and the second batch had more?
And I LOVE Chris Daughtry too! I have a lot of his music. I don't know one song of his I don't love. He is amazing and one of my FAVORITE artists. I also really like David Cook. I have his new song "Leave the Light On". What a great song and what a voice! I watched American Idol the last 3 seasons but never started watching it this season. I just don't watch much tv.
Prose - I hope your horse is doing better. That is so hard when our animals are sick. It's just like they are one of our kids, and it is heartbreaking when you have to watch them suffering or in pain. I am so with you on the Utopian Jewel Oolong and Ginseng Vitality.
Ok, so I wanted to bring up something about food and dieting and accountability. When we cheat or fall of the diet wagon, I think it is good to "claim it" and be honest with ourselves. So I found this picture that pretty accurately describes how I do this....

Hi WEB...you number crunchers with your pie charts ...heehee...the "yet" part has me worried That photo is worth a thousand words...especially since your choice days treat usually involves some type of creamy pie!!! You should talk to Teavana headquarters and see if they can make some coconut cream pie flavored tea ! That would be a great tea for you!
Hugs to you!

Sunshine - What a great idea for a tea! Thanks! I want you to know that I have been such a good girl and laying off the pie for a while now. I used to have a piece about once a week, then once every 2 weeks. Now I only have one maybe once a month. At first when I fall in love with something I crave it like there is no tomorrow. Then as the novelty wears off (usually from eating it too often!) I start to space it out and then it becomes a once in a while treat. That keeps it special still. There is just something wonderful about good coconut or banana cream pie. It's so heavenly. But definitely not worth gaining a bunch of weight over!

Web~ thanks for the tea tips and the encouragement on my one year on the plan. Now, LISTEN to me...you have to make time to watch the rest of American Idol to see this kid Adam. They are down to the top 5. If you can't , then tape it. Not since Chris Daughtry have I ever thought someone was ready now. Adam is in a league all his own.Don't get me wrong, I loved David Cook, but not since Chris, have I seen someone this talented on the show.
Now about the azteca fire, I wonder if they heard the comment on how this isn't spicy and the kicked it up...
Love the pie pic.

Prose~I do love the tea...but, it is touchy tea. some have to be 195 degress, some 208, some steep for one min, some steep for 4 min...it's worth it, just had to adjust.
Have a great weekend. Oh, I did have 2 small pieces of very thin crust pizza for dinner. Went to jimmy johns and had the cut my sandwich in half. so i had half for lunch and half 3 hrs. later. and my marshmallow Easter egg.
Have a great weekend.

Hey Teavana fans...
Web ~ did you ever hear back from Teavana on the calorie amounts on the tea??? I am determined to stick with a CLEAN cycle this time & wondered about this...
I am enjoying the tea MUCH more not that I am brewing it properly!!!

TEA TALK~Hi Ladies...well, I thought I'd pass this along. What I am doing now with the tea, is I have a small ceramic tea post, it holds about 32 ounces of liquid. So I make 2 -16 ounces patches of tea, I use the same tea, twice. Fill up the pot and can use it all day. Just a quick zap in the micro if I want it hot, or some Ice if I want it cold.

I still have not heard back from Teavana. I had my friend ask last week at the store, though, and the Teavana worker said that the teas are "virtually calorieless" except the ones with chocolate, and even then they are very minimal ("like nothing" is what he said). So from the answer I am thinking we are well within our 10 calories or under guidelines. But I would really like to hear it from the company. I din't know why it is so hard to get the answer. You would think that this info would be available to consumers. I will do a little more research and see if I can find it somewhere else.
****UPDATE: I did a search and found a list of Teavana teas that had the calories information. It is not a complete list, but it is quite a few of the Teavana teas listed. All so far have 0 calories except the Silver Needle which had 2 calories (whoop-d-doo!) and then the Dark Chocolate Green tea Therapy which had 35 calories. I never heard of that tea before! (And it's a good thing, too or I would have been drinking it a lot!) I checked the site and it must be a discontinued tea. Now I haven't got the goods on the Azteca Fire or some of the teas I have with chocolate, but I am still searching so I will let you know when I find out. So far, so good.

Kitty ~ great idea on the 32oz pot of tea. I will have to search my cupboards & see what I can find. Today I will be making the pistachio apple one. I will post & let you know how it is.

Wanted to say thanks again Kitty for that suggestion on the teapot! I dug out my good teapot that matches my dishes which I have had for 11 years & NEVER used!!! Saving it I guess! Anyways, brewed up 3 16oz pot fulls with the perfect teapot which give me 48 oz to sip on. Wish I would have done this sooner!!!!
Posted my meal plan in the BC thread & would love your opion.

Prose~did you reuse the tea multiple times, or did you use new tea for each batch?
And your welcome...every once in awhile this old gal has a good idea!
I check out your meal plan and get back to you.

Prose~ Your meal looks good...if your not hungry...I thought your friut meals looked light. I think you could eat a few more grapes and strawberries, since I get hungry about an hour after I eat fruit, but if you don't than all looks good to me.
I went back to the DG because I didn't lose as much this time on the BC, with minor cheating. so I'm gonna mix it up and see what happens. I pulled out a cycle where I lost over 4 pounds hoping for a repeat of that result.!!

Ya, I know what you mean about having a tea pot you never use, but have "just in case."

Hi Kitty,
My problem I know is the CHEATING & possibly eatting late or too much. I will up the fruit a bit, but honestly I feel great today & NOT hungry.
I reused the tea all three times to do this batch. I normally get 3 brews & figured if it was all going in one pot if one batch was alittle weaker it would not matter. This was the pistachio apple pie rooibos ~ very good!!!!!!
Hope you do good on the DG!
