PRose....Hey there! The tea I buy is from Teavana. I have a store close by and am able to just go and buy it....you can go on line to teavana.com and buy it there. Web has bought some online so she will be able to help better with that. There are so many different kinds of Greens, Blacks, Oolongs, Herbals, Fruit Infusions, Whites....so many yummy flavors. Check it out, I am addicted to them all! Hope it helps!

PRose - Zeva got me hooked on Teavana!  It is a little pricey compared to the tea you buy in the store, but these are no ordinary teas, and they do not come in bags. They are gourmet teas!! They are amazing, and worth every penny to me.  They are my guilt-free treats!  If you go to the site (teavana.com) there are all the tea types listed across the top of the page (White, Green, Black, Oolong, Rooibos, Herbal...)  If you click on one of those headings, it will list all of the teas in that category. Be sure to read the ingredients, and then read the comments from people if you are unsure.  You might check online to see if there is a store by you, because they give out samples of tea they have brewing there and you can try some of them before you buy.  The Teavana by me is a pain to park and get to as it is in a busy mall, so most of the time I just order online.  It does cost $4.97 shipping on orders under $50, but the hassle of going to the store is worth it to me.  Besides, once you get hooked, it's hard to order much less than that!  And you should get tins to put them in to keep them fresh, too.  I think if you keep them in the tins, they last for up to 1 year, so you can have several kinds "in stock" in your kitchen at once!  I really enjoy going to my cupboard and opening the tea tins and smelling the teas and deciding which one I will have that evening.  OMG, I love them so much I sound like a Teavana salesperson!  I am going to go have one right now.  Enjoy!

Thanks so much you two!! I am going to check it out now.

I have to also say your all correct about saving things for special occassions & such. It's hard to not follow that thought process about everyday not being special enought to use your good china & crystal. Do you know I have been married for almost 12 years & only used my really good stuff two or three times!!! How bad of me.  I also have told my hubby that this spring/summer we are going to take the TIME to enjoy our selves more..Just take time to relax on those beautiful summer evenings & enjoy the sunsets!  With it staying light out so late during those months, I find that we literally do not come in from working outside till 9:30 at night...Things can wait & the work around the house will always be there tomorrow, right???!!!  We have been in that thought process for the last few years  that the entire summer is filled with never ending projects.  Time for a change!!!

Have  a great day!!!

Home with a terrible cold....so I thought I'd try some of that Teavana tea....ordered online...snowy peach geisha,  apricot carmel torte,
sweet Oolong revolution,  energy chocolate chai tea blend  and strawberry
slender.  We have some excellent teashops in LA but I have never tried
Teavana.....however I go to a place in Santa Monica called Dragon Tea and they are all about health.  I just brewed a pot of their aged Jasmine
Green Tea and there is distinct difference in brewing verses tea bags...Tea is a great way to curb ones appetite so it might as well be quality tea...will let everyone know how the teavana was(will take 7 to 10 days to be shipped).

Deanna, hope you are feeling better soon! This crazy weather we have been having has just been so hard on everyone's systems....If it's going to be cold, fine....just stay cold and gradually warm up...not one day blazing hot, the next freezing! I've tried the Apricot Caramel Torte, and that was one I didn't care for....it is rich and sweetening it a little really brings out the caramel flavor. Personally, I like to keep the vanillas, caramel, and nutty flavors for my coffee, not my tea....but that's only me! How far are you from the Sherman Oaks mall? There is a store in there. The one I go to is at the Glendale Galleria, and the one in Mission Viejo. I think there are a few more in the "Valley" if you can go when you are well, I think you'd be happy with the huge selection. Nothing is in bags....everything is whole leaf, and very good quality. Seriously, I should just work there! If mall hours worked with my crazy schedual, I would! Hope your tea gets there soon, and you are able to sit back and enjoy it as much as me and Web do!....I may just pop over for a cup!

PRose - I am so glad you have decided to enjoy it NOW!  That cliche - there is no better time than now - is TRUE!  This is the only time we have for sure, so let's make the most of it!

Deanna - Take care of yourself and get well.  Yes, there is a difference in the bags versus brewing, I agree.  I hope you LOVE the Teavana :coffee: teas as much as Zeva and I do.  I happen to love the vanilla, caramels, and nutty flavors, myself.  It's hard as it is a personal preference and that is what is nice about going to the store and actually trying some of the teas before you buy.  But I have not been disappointed with any, so far.  At first the Almond Biscotti was OK, but with a splash of milk and a little sweetener, I loved it.  I am a foofoo drink girl.  I like things on the sweeter side, so sweetener can really change the taste of the tea.  There are certain teas that don't need any, for me, especially the Utopian Jewel Oolong and the Ginseng Vitality. Let us know how you like the teas.  I am excited for you to get them and try them.

Zeva - If I worked at Teavana, my whole check would go to tea!

Zeva...I am about 15 miles from the Sherman Oaks Store....I live in the mountains about half way between the valley and Santa Monica...hey if you stop by we could have rabbit food and protein(thats just about it for us)...if I like the tea I will eventually drive to the valley and hit the less expensive cleaners and nail spa's....they charge a lot more on the westside....in Malibu a smog test is $60!......$29.99 in the valley(Canoga Park)
can you believe that?    Everyone I know seems to have this cold and I do think the changing climate does a number on our immune systems....I got sick right after I came back from Palm
Springs(very warm) and then coming back to LA where it was cold.

Deanna, I think the Galleria is about 25 miles or so down the 5 from me....so worth the drive! I love to walk around the new Americana across the street too. Certain cities definately overprice on purpose....because, well, they can! The 40 buck difference on just the smog check, would be enough to get me to drive a few miles! Then again, I grew up with a mom who would drive 20 miles for a cup of coffee almost every day after picking us up from school....guess it has stuck with me....Why not drive to Newport for some smoked albacore at Crab Cooker, or Glendale for tea, or Long Beach for hot sauce, not to mention the stop at Hadley's in Cabazon for some Grandma's Fruit cake! It's ok, I tell my kids every trip to the store will be an adventure! You will always find something new if you step off the front porch!

Zeva - Off of the tea subject... since I know you like tequila and margaritas... did you know that if you have a margarita with a commercial margarita mix, it is 4x more carbs than if you have a margarita, the purist way, with just tequila, orange liqueur and lime juice?  And, remember I told about reducing the sugar in the tequila if you use 100% agave tequila?  Just thought you might like to know that little tidbit for cheat days to help with controlling the carbs & calories, so you can still have your tequila, and drink it, too!

Okay you guys have me so excited about my trip to teavana tomorrow!!!

I took your recommendations & then went thru the site....oh man am I in trouble!!!!!

Green tea mojo,Cacao mint, Thai tea, Mata vana,*White Ayurvedic Chai Tea

*Aztec fire,*Energy chocolatte chai,*Samurai Chai Mate,Utopian Jewel Oolong,*Pina Colada,

Almond Biscotti ,
*Rooibos Rose Garden , *Sweet Amore Rooiboos , *Formosa Nut

*Sweet Oolong Revolution, Queen of Babylon,  rose garden, to life .

This list will cost me a fortune so of course I am only picking a couple to start with. Some are pretty pricey.

Some of them sound so great & might just be the thing for those afternoon & evening cravings.  I too like the creamy nutty things, but my son has a severe nut allergy so I am somewhat concerned about drinking those when he is home.

I will post with my new treasures!!!

Prose, you are in for an adventure! Remember what I said about the sales people...be strong, and go in with a game plan!

Web, as much as I love Margaritas, I don't really drink them even on cheat days. I'm one who would rather eat my calories, not drink them. (dont think I'm a floozie but) I've switched to shots.... I can do without the liquors, and syrups...so when I do...very occasionally, CaboWabo or Patron are my Tequilas of choice...with just lime and salt. Got any of that in your emergency case? Hehehe.....Now the cheat in that is you have to have it with chips and salsa...preferably El Torito! Yummmmm.......

PRose - Yes, take Zeva's advice and be firm when you deal with the salespeople at Teavana, or you will walk out of there owning a stock option with the company! LOL  Not to mention, it is hard just on your own to not cave in to all the teas themselves, without the added "help" of the salespeople!  Also, when you say 2 oz., or 4 oz., etc. make sure they don't go over.  I noticed at the store they always go over the ounces, and that adds up when you are getting several teas.  Online they just give you exactly what you order.  You may even find something not on your list that you can sample at the store, and fall in love with!  Have fun!

Zeva - If you are going to drink alcohol, then shots are absolutely the way to go to avoid "extra" calories.  Sounds like you have it down!  To avoid the chips and salsa, I would have to avoid the Mexican restaurant!  So I would have to drink at home.  I am completely out of tequila in my emergency case, but do have some Grey Goose vodka!  Of course if you were coming this way, I could easily pick up some Cabo Wabo or Patron! =)

my drug of choice was never alcohol and since the 60's are over and
I  can't afford the blind munchies I have to settle for tea for now...I do
however like strawberry margaritas but like Web want the chips with it.
I have been recently(on cheat days) been having my salsa or bean dips
using cucumbers instead of chips(not bad)

Happy Hump day everyone!!

Deanna..I hope you are feeling better today. :rainbow:

Well...what a trip to teavana!!!!   The tea's are absolutely gorgeous..seriously!   The sales people were not too pushy, but it was so hard to decide.  I hope what I picked are all different from one another.  I still have more on my list for next time the ginseng tranquility especially..as it is I spent more than I intended too.  I did get 10% off which was a little bonus.

Mate vana, White Ayurvedic Chai, Rooibos chai, Zingiber Ginger Coconut, Aztec Fireu(they said you can eat this on yogurt!!), samuri chai mate. So two mate, one white tea, two rooibos, one herbal.  no oolong's this time.

The manager gave me lots of tips on what to mix with what! I am so excited to brew one up!! Do you actully check the temp of the water?????

I had fun, wish it was cheaper...but these are good for you right????

Prose, for my tea, I have no way of checking the temp...what I do is let it boil hard, and use it right away for my herbals, black, rooiboos, and oolongs...if I'm using a white or green, I either let the water sit for like 5 minutes, or I'll add a few ice cubes before pouring the water in....Neat place huh? Glad you had fun, and I hope you enjoy your selections!

PRose - I am so glad you had a fun trip to Teavana.  There are sooo many teas, and soo hard to decide.  I wanted to try the Azteca Fire, so please let me know what you think. I wonder why you cannot eat it with yogurt  Did they say?  I like dark chocolate with hot pepper in it, so I like the idea of the sweet and hot.  I do check the temperature on my tea.  It is probably one of those anal things I do, but I wanted to try the teas perfectly the way they are meant to be enjoyed.   So I bought an espresso thermometer at Peets Coffee, but I am sure you can find them at other stores like Starbucks, Bed, Bath & Beyond, etc.  The thermometer goes up to over 200 degrees.  So if I am making only a cup, which is what I do alot, I tested how long it took the water to boil and put the thermometer in and that way I knew how long before it reached a certain temp.  Then I don't have to test it everytime.

PRose....let us  know which tea you liked the most...my order is on its way...feeling better, thanks

Went to an happy hour with some friends and they were scarfing down taquitos,
enchiladas, and nacho's.....at first I wanted that but ended up just having some
fruit and some black beans....it was the first time my attitude shifted in that I felt
powerful instead of resentful...it was almost like a high to be in control.  I think that's
the key to how we have to live in the future.

Deanna, you just saved me from eating a mini triple chocolate bundt cake. THANK YOU! It has been an emotional roller coaster for me the last couple days, and all I want is chocolate!!!! Last night I almost ate one, today I almost had one for dinner instead of my chicken....

I was up till 2 am last night, talking to a friend I haven't talked to in maybe 5 years. We caught up on some really fun memories, and thought we'd get together in the near future......well, that means looking no less than my best....As much as I want to eat that chocolate cake, I want to lose those last few pounds more (I think???) The power of control...I can do it!

Hi Deanna, Zeva & everyone else!!

So far I have had the aztec fire which I did like, I think I might try to add a touch more tea next time to get it alittle stronger. I am so used to coffee which seems richer, or stronger so I probably have to get used to the tea just being different. I also had the Zingiber Ginger Coconut which was good too. It smells so good you actually want to eat it!!!!

The sales person gave me some recommendations on what to mix & had a blend (their most popular) that I tried. It was the mata vana & the rooibos chai I think. I will post those combos for you guys.

So last night I met some friends for dinner...was alittle nervous, but it went well.  So far this cycle according to the scale I have not lost anything but I look & feel thinner so I did not want to mess up & I did great!  We went out for mexican & guess what.....I did not even eat ONE chip!!!!! I normally always munch on the chips & salsa which are so good ~ but I told myself I wasn't going to have any & once I was there I was not even tempted! I am so proud of myself...  My meal was chicken & peanuts which of course was not on the menu at the restaurant so I had chicken fajitas & only ate the chicken & onion & peppers so I did great.  Oh yeah, skipped the margarita's too & had  mick. ultra, maybe red wine would have been better, but oh well.

Good job Zeva on skipping the choclate cake!!! That is my weakness totally.  Baked goods & love to bake for the rest of the household...then those cookies just keep calling my name!!! :shock:

Cheers,

Prose

Prose - I ordered 5 more teas on Teavana last night and one of them was the Azteca fire.  I can't wait to get them!

On another note, I read your post about Detroit in the General Discussion thread, and wanted to comment.  There is a lot of unfairness going around and we have to believe that somehow it will all work out.  My bf lost $80,000 a few years ago in a company pension plan.  The person that took over the company (which was a pretty well known company) ran it into the ground, paid himself plenty, and I believe even got a big retirement/severance package and left the company in shambles.  All the employees that had put money into it for years, and left it in there... believeing and trusting, lost everything.  I know a several of them who are in their mid and late 60's - 70's who are still working as they could not afford to retire.  I don't know how those CEO & CFOs sleep at night.  It really frosts my cake.

This year, my birthday falls on Easter Sunday. I'm going to be 26. If we don't find a babysitter for the kids, my DH is taking the whole family to explore more of the island. We're going to visit Waikiki Beach and maybe Pearl Harbor.

Omayra - Happy Birthday! Easter is a great day to have your birthday to fall on!  It will be nice if you and DH can go out for your bday alone together, but if you can't find a babysitter (which I am sure is not easy just mving to Hawaii and not knowing a lot of people yet), I hope you have a great family day.  I can't believe you are 26 years old and have such a big family already!  26 is still so young!  Have a great time whatever yo do!

Webfairy, an hour ago I got off the  phone with thee wife of my husband's Sergeant and they're going to babysit for 4 hours. She told me to let her know whenever I need a babysitter. I'm excited, we'll be having family time the rest of the weekend though :)

I've been trying to get back into a cycle but it really has been diffficult. I'm obviously going to deviate on my birthday.

Omayra, that is great!  How nice that the Sargeant's wife offered to babysit.  Wow, that is a great relief to know that she is avaliable for future needs, too!  Of course you are going to deviate... it's your birthday.  And you should enjoy yourself.  You have had so much going on for some time now, and you have done so well already, you should treat yourself on your birthday!  No worries!  You said you are already at a comfortable weight, and if you want to do any cycles in the future, they will still be there! Enjoy!

Thanks! That's just what I'll do Web. For the past several weeks I've seem to have lost my willpower. I guess it's because my TOM just started.

I'll just take it easy and see if I can get back into the cycles after my birthday.

Agl - I moved the tea conversation to this thread... When Teavana quoted you the $4.50, that is for 2 oz. which is the minimum purchase per tea.  They go up in price from there, but worth every penny.  I have never measured it exactly but I am figuring you get a good 8 or more cups of tea from 2 oz.  Am I close Zeva?  Anyways, if you figure ONE cup of Starbucks fufu coffee is about $4, then 8+ cups of tea for that price is nothing!  Teavna is expensive compared to Liptons, and the others, but this is GOURMET tea, and those are no where even close in quality to Teavana teas. So if you look at it like that, they are nOT expensive (per cup of tea) and I normally get a couple of steepings from most teas, so double that!

Kitty - Go to http://www.teavana.com and check out all the teas and see which ones appeal to you.  Then ask us to see if we had tried them.  I have not had a tea I didn't like yet.  The Azteca Fire is chocolate and chili but you can't taste the chili.  My bf doesn't like it only because he thinks tea should taste like tea (plain and simple) and Azteca fire tastes liuke hot chocolate.  He even said if I did not tell him it was tea he would have thought it was some kind of hot chocolate.

Web and Zeva and Prose~ What are your favorite teas..maybe just one or two of them. I am not a coffee drinker. I do like teas like chamomile, constant comment, fruit flavors, but I don't like hibiscus. Didn't one of you say chocolate??? What kind is that Aztec fire? Thanks for any help.

Kitty - The Azteca Fire is an HERBAL tea.  The details are this:  Everyone's favorite blend of chocolate and strawberries with a kick. This modern take on the ancient tradition of blending chili peppers with cacao stands the test of time. A spicy refreshment any time of day.  The ingredients are:  crushed cocao, apple strawberry, chocolate pieces, safflowers and crushed red chili pods

If you click on the type of tea on the top bar of the web page, you can find out about each type of tea (white, green, oolong, black, herbal, rooibos, and mate).  It will tell you all about that kind of tea, what it's health benefits are, and whether it is high or low in caffeine content.   Then you can find all the teas under each category and click on them individually to find out what they are made from.  There are DETAILS, HEALTH INFO and PREP/INGREDIENTS on the right side of the specific tea you click on.  It is a very informative site.  You can also read reviews from other users to help you decide if the tea is something you will like.  However, I take the reviews with a grain of salt, as we all like different things.  What might be wonderful for one person, might not be so hot to another.  They also have tea blends that are wonderful.  The people at the stores also know what teas go good together, as many people like to mix 2 or more kinds.  It's fun to experiment, too!

webfairy wrote: Agl - I moved the tea conversation to this thread...

Thanks Web!  Right after I sent that post, I thought to myself that I should have posted it here but, OH WELL!

And thanks for the info on the cost.  That makes me feel a whole lot better.  I'll do some homework and then go back with some ammo!

Brandi -  I think the MateVana is fine, and a good replacement choice for coffee.  And just an FYI, Oolong and green tea are good teas for aiding in weight loss.

Hi Everyone! Glad to see the cafe opened!!!

AGL~ I believe I was told that you get 15 cups of tea from 2oz, but I have not meaured it. It does last along time!!!

I bought the following:

small 16oz perfect teamaker (I love this!!! I think Zeva suggested it).

Tea tins

Mata Vanna (my fav mixed with Rooibos Chai), rooibos Chai, Aztec Fire, Zingiber Ginger Coconut..The Mata Vanna can be mixed with any of those others.  I also bought Samuri Chai & the White Ayurvedic Chai which those can be mixed as well. I have not mixed all of these as suggested but gives you alot more variation on different combos!

I have another list of what I want next based on some of the others comments!! Definately Ginseng Vitality, Sweet Oolong Revolution & the Sour cherry Seranade. Also the blueberry bliss & the pina colada.

The tea is costly but does last & is worth every penny IMO. I like to have it especially if I feel water logged!!!!

PRose - I knew I was being conservative saying 8+ cups.  I thought it was more like 12 cups per 2 oz., but if they told you 15 cups, then that is even better!  I have never measured either, so wasn't exactly sure.  I guess that would also depend on the type of tea.  For instance, some use 1 tsp and some use more.  Today I had Sweet Amore which is 1.5 tsp., so that would go faster than another tea that required only 1 tsp.  Regardless, you get many, many cups from 2 oz.  It is such amazing value for the price.  I am sooo hooked.

Kitty, 24 has been my favorite show for a few years, but I am so disappointed this season that I quit watching it.  It has all become too politically correct and that turns me off.  So I don't know what is going on with Jack (although I must admit that I am curious).  Sorry.

Btw, I was reading on Teavana's site that 2 oz. of tea makes 20 cups!  Woweee!  Of course you will have to cut that in half, if you are making iced tea as you must double the amount of tea per cup.  But still!  And I normally get a couple infusions from each (except Azteca fire).  I am drinking Rose Marzipan Delight today and it is fabulous!  I love the rose/lavender/violet/nutty blends.  They smell and taste so wonderful, they are like aromatherapy to me!

Hey Web...you are driving me mad with these teas!!!!!:dizzy:  Everytime you mention one I go check it out & now my shopping cart is full!!!!

Okay question for you...in one of the reviews for the ginseng vitality the person recommends brewing the silver needle I think then adding the monkey oolong (possibly?) then adding the Ginseng vitality. And some of the reviews for that silver needle say they drink that as an antioxident...have you tried any of these? Looks like you can brew them many times. They are all pricey...especially if you bought them all at once! ooch.

So ~ here is my list...I need guidence!

sweet oolong revolution, coconut aloha, sour cherry seranade, irish breakfast, pistachio apple pie rooibos, toffee rooibos, ginseng vitality.  Plus that one you mentioned sounds great too!!!!

Oh yeah, how do you do the iced tea, do  you add half the amount of hot water then add ice cubes?

Thanks!

i have sweet oolong revolution...outstanding!...i tend to not
like my tea so strong so I stretch it out....with ice tea I often add more water to the pot and it becomes an almost tea water like they serve in some Japanese noodle houses.  I pour the stuff into class jars and float fresh mint leaves on top and mix the whole thing with a little stevia or sweet fiber.....these teavana teas are awesome!
