Glad you liked the cheese thingies agl! I used to make them way back in my Atkins days and had forgotten until I ran across them on the interwebs recently. Finally got myself some parchment paper so I could try them again. I tried last week w/o and had one big gloppy greasy mess on a plate - But I didn't waste it!:pig:

Check out the recipe thread if you miss rice - I just posted a cauliflower trade-off that's really pretty good.

Oh, and about the convertible? I already have a red one - Can I wear a purple hat?

Agl - I think Sunshine posted about them, but I also posted a couple of recipes for cheese crisps in the recipe section.  It's such a treat to eat it like that, isn't it?!  My fav part of pizza was always the burned cheese on the ends.  I love practically anything burned. My mom was famous for that, so I grew up loving that charcoal taste.  Now when I go to barbecues or get togethers and someone burns something, I am there to salvage it from the garbage disposal!  That always makes the cook happy, too!

PRose - :shock:Ammonia??? On my skin???  Yikes! 'Splain, Lucy!  I drank Sweet Oolong Revolution all day at work today.  Yum, but I may have steeped it a little longer than planned as I have a headache from it.  Oolong is half the caffeine of black tea, but if you steep it too long, then you are getting even more caffeine.  I can only handle minute amounts of caffeine these days, so I am going to have to do lighter steeps with Oolong. But it is so good for weight loss!

YAYYYYYYYYYY!  My DH and I are going to Wolftrap tonight to see them.  I am soooooooooooooo excited!  Never saw them when they first came out but it is never too late!  Can't wait.

Some of you yungins are going, "Uh, who are the Doobie Brothers?"  Well, I guess you just have to be from the late 60's/early 70's to really understand any of the old bands, right oldies?  And NO, they are not hard rock, but they are AWESOME!

WHOA OH OHHHHHHHHHHHHH, LISTEN TO THE MUSIC!

Who are the Doobie Brothers???? Anything like the Jonas Brothers??? Just kidding....I'm not that young....just wanted a good laugh!!! You gals are great!

I went to Trader Joes yesterday to pick up some half sour pickles for my FIL...they are his favorite, come to find out, they discontinued them!!!! No wonder I haven't seen them for a while....so, today my project will be to MAKE him some home made pickles...they are real easy, salt, vinegar, and cukes....throw in some garlic cloves and dill in the jar, and let it sit on the counter a couple days, then put in the fridge....Thank goodness I have a ton of little tiny pickling cukes growing in my garden. I have a feeling I will be kept busy this summer with those pickles...lol!

Oh, and I have been making at least a pitcher of Iced Tea a day.....Sour Cherry Serenade, and then a new combo I've been doing is Torocco Orange, and Apple Lemon Pomegranite...pretty good stuff! The Sweet Fruit Garden is good with just about anything too! Yes, I'm a tea junkie.....When are we going to sit down for an afternoon tea all together???

Doggone it Web and Zeva! You just HAD to bring up dark chocolate. Oh well, this IS my and DH's night for our annual DQ Blizzard. We have one once a year during the local car show. And I don't care if I AM on Day 7 of BC. There is a deviation planned and I will not be swayed! And I have seen Lindt's Cherry and Chili bar - just haven't had the courage to buy one yet. Sounds really good. And I sure am glad I don't live close to that chocolate store in San Diego, Zeva.

I came across this story today, and thought I'd share it with you all....Zeva's TOD!

Two Choices

What would you do...you make the choice. Don't look for a punch line, there
isn't one. Read it anyway. My question is: Would you have made the same
 choice?

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves children with learning
disabilities, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that
would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and
its dedicated staff, he offered a question:

'When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does, is
done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other
children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where it the
natural order of things in my son?

The audience was stilled by the query.

The father continued. 'I believe that when a child like Shay, who was
mentally and physically disabled comes into the world, an opportunity to
realize true human nature presents itself, and it comes in the way other
 people treat that child.'

Then he told the following story:

Shay and I had walked past a park where some boys Shay knew were playing
baseball. Shay asked, 'Do you think they'll let me play?' I knew that most
of the boys would not want someone like Shay on their team, but as a fatherI
also understood that if my son were allowed to play, it would give him a
much-needed sense of belonging and some confidence to be accepted by others
 in spite of his handicaps.

I approached one of the boys on the field and asked (not expecting much) if
Shay could play. The boy looked around for guidance and said, 'We're losing
by six runs and the game is in the eighth inning. I guess he can be on our
team and we'll try to put him in to bat in the ninth inning.'

Shay struggled over to the team's bench and, with a broad smile, put on a
team shirt. I watched with a small tear in my eye and warmth in my heart.
The boys saw my joy at my son being accepted.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Shay's team scored a few runs but was
 still behind by three.

In the top of the ninth inning, Shay put on a glove and played in the right
field. Even though no hits came his way, he was obviously ecstatic just to
be in the game and on the field, grinning from ear to ear as I waved to him
 from the stands.

In the bottom of the ninth inning, Shay's team scored again.

Now, with two outs and the bases loaded, the potential winning run was on
base and Shay was scheduled to be next at bat.

At this juncture, do they let Shay bat and give away their chance to win the
 game?

Surprisingly, Shay was given the bat. Everyone knew that a hit was all but
impossible because Shay didn't even know how to hold the bat properly, much
 less connect with the ball.

However, as Shay stepped up to the
Plate, the pitcher, recognizing that the other team was putting winning aside
for this moment in Shay's life, moved in a few steps to lob the ball in
softly so Shay could at least make contact.

The first pitch came and Shay swung clumsily and missed. The pitcher again
took a few steps forward to toss the ball softly towards Shay.

As the pitch came in, Shay swung at the ball and hit a slow ground ball
 right back to the pitcher.

The game would now be over.
The pitcher picked up the soft grounder and could have easily thrown the ball
 to the first baseman.

Shay would have been out and that would have been the end of the game.

Instead, the pitcher threw the ball right over the first baseman's head, out
of reach of all team mates.

Everyone from the stands and both teams started yelling, 'Shay, run to first!
 Run to first!'

Never in his life had Shay ever run that far, but he made it to first base.
He scampered down the baseline, wide-eyed and startled.

Everyone yelled, 'Run to second, run to second!'

Catching his breath, Shay awkwardly ran towards second, gleaming and
struggling to make it to the base.

By the time Shay rounded towards second base, the right fielder had the
ball. The smallest guy on their team who now had his first chance to be the
 hero for his team.

He could have thrown the ball to the second-baseman for the tag, but he
understood the pitcher's intentions so he, too, intentionally threw the ball
high and far over the third-baseman's head.

Shay ran toward third base deliriously as the runners ahead of him circled
 the bases toward home.

All were screaming, 'Shay, Shay, Shay, all the Way Shay'

Shay reached third base because the opposing shortstop ran to help him by
turning him in the direction of third base, and shouted, 'Run to third!
 Shay, run to third!'

As Shay rounded third, the boys from both teams, and the spectators, were on
their feet screaming, 'Shay, run home! Run home!'

Shay ran to home, stepped on the plate, and was cheered as the hero who hit
the grand slam and won the game for his team.

'That day', said the father softly with tears now rolling down his face, 'the
boys from both teams helped bring a piece of true love and humanity into this
 world'.

Shay didn't make it to another summer. He died that winter, having never
forgotten being the hero and making me so happy, and coming home and seeing
his Mother tearfully embrace her little hero of the day!

We all have thousands of opportunities every single day to help realize the
 'natural order of things.'
So many seemingly trivial interactions between two people present us with a
choice: Do we pass along a little spark of love and humanity or do we pass up those
opportunities and leave the world a little bit colder in the process?

A wise man once said every society is judged by how it treats it's least
fortunate amongst them. I would like to think that we would all make the 'Shay' choice!

Zeva - That was a very touching story!  It would be so wonderful if we all kept in mind that a little bit of love, understanding, compassion, hope and inspiration can go a long way.  Sometimes it's as easy as a smile.  I love this kind of story.  Thanks so much for sharing it.

What a sad day! I am just devastated that Michael Jackson has past away! I grew up on his music & am just in shock as to what happened!  He was musical genious & a musical idol to many. This is a first for my generation to loose an icon ~ good or bad (as some will mention) he will always be the King of Pop.

Kyan, the nice thing about Teavana is that they put labels on the container bag the tea comes in with the name of the tea, and some labels have the ingredients, and others list the amount to use and the steeping time.  But all the bags list all the tea kinds (black, green, white  oolong, etc.), the temperature, and how long to steep.  I keep my teas in airtight tins and take the labels off the bag and put them on the tins.  They make the labels easy to peel off for that reason.  And there is always the website... they list all the teas, the temps, and how long to steep, etc.  I think I have a list of all that I made in a pdf file, too.  I will have to look and see but I can send it to you and you can keep that information on your computer for easy reference.  Let me know if you want it.  I am so hooked on the Spice of Life and the White Ayervedic Chai.  I can't stop drinking those two white tea blends!  There is something about the Spice of Life... the aroma and taste do something to me (kind of aromatherapy-like).  I enjoy it so much and it makes me feel good.  I think I will go have one now, as a matter of fact!:coffee:

Did you guys hear that message a few hours after his death:

I've heard that on the radio.. Before Michaels death his album was on the 880th place of the charts..

A few hours after his death his album went straight to number one

Now that's what I call a star!

Kyan - PM me your email address and I will look for the list and send it.  Last night it was 11:30 your time but only 9:30 my time. I can't have ANY caffeine that late or I wouldn't sleep at all.  This is how bad caffeine effects me.  I have had a heavily caffeinated iced coffee at 10:30 in the morning and at 1:00 in the morning I still was still feeling like someone needed to peel me off the ceiling!:tongue:

OMG!! I have stopped being notified when a post is made here...just the general discussion posts I am being notified for...anyway, just a couple of thoughts...Michael Jackson's Thriller album came out in 1982 the year my son was born. Matt(my son) was and is a night owl like me, so when he woke up at 10pm and didn't want to go back to sleep until 1am, I would put on that album and dance around my living room with him. I swear, that's why he's such a good dancer now.

Doobie Brothers I must have seen 3 times in college...loved that group...It's fun seeing some of you having the same tastes in music as i do...from the doobie brothers to adam lambert...wouldn't it be great if we lived near each other so we could go together...a couple weeks ago stevie windwood and eric clapton did a concert here in chicago and i didn't go...sold out quickly...i understand that was amazing the both of them together.

gotta go eat my 6th meal...getting pretty late for it....

hugs to all..

Kitty, it would be so fun if we could get together and go out one evening, wouldn't it?  Many of us are in the same age bracket, or at least have similar tastes in things, and we could all have a blast. I know we have said this before, but we SHOULD try to make a way for us to have some kind of get together.  We could have a bake sale to raise money... Just kidding!  But there has got to be a way to do this!  Let's put our heads together! We should start something to get an idea of who would want to do this.  I have been selling on Ebay (one of my side gigs) since 1999, and I could start selling stuff to raise money for all our plane tickets and such.  I am serious! Think about it!

I am so frustrated.  My daughter had a doctor appointment today... well, actually a midwife appointment... and her due date is today but still no baby Lilah.  The baby was 7 lbs. 4 oz two weeks ago and my daughter is so uncomfortable and hurts so bad she isn't getting any sleep.  She never had regular labor contractions with her son (who was 10 lbs. 1 oz. when he was born) but she had back pain.  She is having the back pains now, and even though they have acknowledged she is having contractions for days now, they aren't "regular" contractions, so the midwife didn't do a physical exam.  She told my daughter, that each pregnancy is different and she will probably have normal contractions with this one.  How the heck does she know?!  My daughter asked her to please do a physical exam to see how far she is dialated (she was only 2 cm last week), but the midwife said that there was no real reason to, other than my daughter's curiosity.  So we are still waiting.  I just thought I would update you all.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD MORNIN' KYAN AND ALL OF Y'ALL LOSERS!

I have been missing in action here - just got caught up in life, ya' know?  My 19-year old baby boy came in from Alabama last Monday and I took off work a few days- just now getting back on this thing.

And yes, I know, the Doobies were here before that, AND THEY WERE AWESOME!  They played all of their old stuff, but they also played some "new old stuff"- never been recorded, but they wrote the songs WAYYYYYYYYYYYY BACK WHEN.  I do believe they have an album coming out in early 2010.  http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_releases/doobie_brothers_plan_new_album.html

Sorry - no T-shirt!  :nono:  Hey, why not order one from their website?

Did anybody see the memorial for Michael Jackson yesterday? I saw parts of it yesterday and the encore today. I wasn't  a fan but I did enjoy his songs from back in the 70's and 80's and there were so many other songs I grew up listening to which I never relaize it was him who sang them until just recently.

I was so touched by what his daughter said, I almost cried, my heart really goes out to his kids.

I have some issues with the things he did in his personal life, but I prefer to remember at his best now, especially as he was when he started off.

Omayra, also not a fan of MJ, but we can't discount the major impact he had on our music over the past 40 years. What a talent, an absolute genius. I used to watch him when he was a little boy and already could see what was happening to him. The way he was being used and not allowed any kind of ordinary personal life. And yes, I saw quite a bit of the memorial the other day - very touching and so sad, especially for his children.

Annie, I think I was about 5 or 6 when I first heard his name, and I was 12 when I first heard his music. The first song I ever heard of MJ was "Beat It" sung by "The Chipmunks" in that cartoon and then Free Willy theme song. I can't remember the name but Jennifer Hudson was singing it at the memorial. I'm sure you all know which one I'm talking about.

After learning how his life was growing up it doesn't surprise me that his life turned out the way he did.

All I can really say about his personal life is that even if the allegations weren't true, he sure practiced some poor judgment when it came to kids....

Anyway, another touching moment was when Jermaine Jackson sang "Smile" and broke down in tears. I also found it very touching when his friends and family all sang "We Are The World".

OMG!!!!!  My angel baby granddaughter, Lilah is here!!!!  She had a full head of black hair and big eyes.  She weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz.!  I got to spend my time in the nursery with her when she wasn't with mom in the room.  And when she was in the room with mom, we had a tug of war!  I cried watching her be born.  What an overwhelming sense of love, life, and miracles!  I don't know how much closer to heaven I can get....

Thank you ALL for your lovely comments!  They mean so much to me.  I just got mommy and baby home and settled from the hospital.  I posted some more pictures on Facebook today.  I cannot get enough of this little girl, and I have a feeling that I am not going to ever get enough of her!  I am already planning our first tea party!:tongue: I don't think I mentioned it (maybe I did in the other thread), but I got her this cute onesie at the hospital gift shop that says "The Princess Has Arrived".  That about sums it up!  Life is good!:grin::grin::grin:  I took out the other pic above and added this one from yesterday.  Here she was 1 day old.

Thanks, Prose! My daughter is doing well.  Yesterday I got to go grocery shopping with her after I got off work.  She had my 4 year old grandson in the little car shopping cart they have for kids, and I pushed Lilah in another shopping cart.  Several people came up to me and admired Lilah and asked how old my baby was.  I told them "4 days old" and my daughter would give me the evil eye... so I quickly followed up with "she is my granddaughter... it is really my daughter's baby":tongue:.  But when my daughter wasn't around I may have failed to mention that to others.:tongue:

It is soooo hot!  The last couple days have just been horrible.  Friday it was :shock:106 again on my porch, and I don't know what it was yesterday but it was really hot, too.  Today has been hot and muggy, which makes it worse.  I was thinking I would make a meal in the crock pot since I BBQ'ed last night.  I am not much of a red meat eater at all, but every blue moon I feel like something with red meat.  I went and got a roast today as I thought I would do a Yankee pot roast.  But I am too hot to even sear the meat on the stove. I am not looking forward to August as it gets worse.  The Bay Area is great weather, for the most part, but San Jose is not as close to the bay as the East Bay where I am used to.  But on a brighter note, my grape tomato plant has 35 tomatoes on it!  My bigger tomatoes are not as fruitful, but they are producing, so at least I will have fresh home grown organic tomatoes this summer!  I can't wait to eat my first one.  I bet in a couple or so days the yellow tomatoes will be red and I can finally try one.  Home grown tomatoes just taste so much better than store bought tomatoes.  I think it is all the TLC we put into them that gives them that extra flavor.
