Hi Lucy.  Welcome!  I'm new here myself and just started the diet a week ago today.  Most of the discussion takes place in the general thread at the top.  You'll find lots of tips, suggestions and support there.  Good luck if you decide to try the diet.  I have about 50 lbs. to lose, but have already lost about 6-1/2 in the past week.  Right on target to reach the projected 9 by Friday.

Hi everyone,

I'm starting this tomorrow and hoping to lose some big time weight.  Im 6'7"
and weigh about 370 pounds.  I do have a big frame.  People usually guess my weight at around 280 or so.  My goal weight is around 260.  So i need to lose 110 pounds.  Please help me out guys........Ive tried to lose weight throughout the years and had success one time...but managed to gain it all back.  Im 37 years old and although im doing this mainly for my health, I have to also admit that Im single and hope that losing this weight will make me feel a bit sexier ( lol - you know what i mean) and get me 'out there' again.  Anyways, all the best to you guys and I hope to check this blog out often.

Oh well, here it goes.........

Rowdy...your digestion will need to adjust to the diet...what was your menu today?  Did you drink all the water...this is really really important as it raises your metabolism and flushes out the fat and keeps the bloat down.  You said you had baby 3 months ago...are you nursing right now...this might change how you need to eat.  My son has been deployed four times...two times to Iraq and is being redeployed in 5 days...I hear ya!!  All the best to you!!  SS

Hi Barney!  Welcome!

I myself just joined, I am on day 7 and I have to admit that only a couple of times of the last few days did I feel hungry.  Even those couple of times weren't really that intense.  Also I have noticed that my energy level is way up.  I have an injury to my foot so walking long distance is hard for me so I try to stay active around my house as much as possible.  I think this is a good first step for you.  I hope it works out for you.

Hello,

Firstly, I am so happy to have found all of you!  I really thought that I was mad when I decided to try this diet 3 years ago right after I stopped breastfeeding my son, and to my surprise, it worked!  I didn't need to lose anymore after the first cycle, so I decided not to do the second cycle and ended up gaining about 3 lbs back for a total weight loss of 4 lbs.

Now, I am back to a weight and body shape that I feel uncomfortable with.  I am 5' 4' and now weigh between 55 and 53 kilos (116-120 lbs).   My normal weight is 49-50 kilos (107-110).   My clothes are not fitting right and I have flabby bits everywhere!

Before anyone starts asking me if I have anorexia, I must tell you that I have an extremely small frame, my fingers are all between ring size 3 and 4 and my wrists circumference is 4.5 inches.  When I am my normal weight, people still think that I am curvy and I like it that way.  So, please don't bash me for having tiny-frame Asian genes.

OK, sorry for the long intro, but I am hoping that someone may be able to help me:

If you do a cycle and then wait more than 3 days to do another cycle, is the weight gain back inevitable?

I'm suspicious of the new diet, to those of you who did the old diet, is this just as effective?  It seems a little easier, as I was going to kill myself eating ham chunks and tuna all of the time!!

For anyone who has between 5-15 lbs to lose, do you think that this diet has worked for you?

Last time I did the diet, I was 57 kilos and got down to 52 at one point in the cycle (I think that it was day 6 or 7) and wanted to stop then.  But, I decided to finish the cycle and ended up at 54 kilos.  If you see weight loss like this mid-cycle, can you get off the diet and just try and maintain?

And lastly, I am starting up again tomorrow, does anyone else want to join me?  We can motivate each other!  :)

Hi Ex,

I won't be able to start the diet until Wednesday, I have to go to the grocery store but i would love to have a supporter in this as well. Of course, I have more like 50 lbs. to lose but it would be great to have someone to share ideas with and to check in on to see how the diet is going.

If you want some extra support, feel free to email me. It's always easier to diet when you have people doing it with you.

Hi Mommieof2!  Thanks for replying to my post!

I'd love to have a buddy to go through this diet with me, so if you don't mind, we can try and motivate each other when you start on Wednesday via email or PM (do they have that here?  I'll have to check).

So far, it's going well, except for the fact that I accidentally cooked the chicken in the microwave instead of defrosting it  (new microwave, it's confusing!).  My husband is also telling me about the wonderful things that he's snacking on, like chocolate mousse and candy.   But, I'm strong, I'll make it through!

Take care and I hope that we talk soon...

PS:  By the way, I may also post my questions on the main thread as it seems to get a lot more traffic...

Thanks again, hope to chat soon!

I've been reading everyones quotes and it seems that the people who are losing about a 1lb a day are the ones who aren't excercising at all. Maybe with the diet generator type diet you shouldn't excercise bc then you are burning calories adn possibly messing up the whole shifting of the calories thing? Do you think that could be it. I lost 1 lb each day the 1st 2 days and then I started doing 30 min. of brisk walking each day and now I'm not losing anymore!

My friend and I are on day 6 of cycle one of FL4I (I guess you'd call it the "new" menu.)  We'd been doing WeightWatchers with little success.  A group of us (six in all) decided to hold our own WW meetings at our friend's house next door, for a more "personal" touch.  My friend and I stumbled across FL4I seven days ago and got right on it.  Last night was weigh-in night next door.  Instead of my usual .2 or .4 of a lb. loss, I was the "biggest loser" with a 6 lb. loss!  And I haven't been able to work out recently due to my taking a bad fall 2 weeks ago.  My friend lost 4 lbs.  You should have seen everyone poring over the FL4I rules I'd brought over!!

I am so glad to have stumbled across this diet!!  It's absolutely "idiot" proof, and I'm never hungry.  Who'd have ever thought that it would be so easy to lose weight?

Glassdog

What a great idea to hold your own WW meetings.  So much better than going to the WW meetings themselves, unless you're into that sort of thing.

Hi everyone - joined yesterday  but have been on the FL4I for 11 days now - today is my last day before my 3 day vacation.  Interestingly, I have no cravings like I would have expected.  I've lost 9 lbs, just as promised and I think I was doing everything wrong.

I now have all the information which I downloaded from the original site.  I notice that people are talking about recipes.  Where are they finding recipes????

Hick:

Thank you for posting and welcome to the FL4I board.

If you look at the top of the forum, you will see all of the active threads which begin with FL4I.  There is one for "FL4I - Recipes".

Likewise, I am also moving your post into the "FL4I - New Members" thread as there is an ongong effort to get people to post in active threads.

Good luck and hope you have success.

Hello everyone,

I bought this diet on Sunday, and started Monday.  I am currently on day 5,  So far I have lost about 3 lbs, even though when I weighed this morning I was up 2lbs, so actually a total of 1 lbs lost.  I know that with the bacon, I might be gaining water, but I am not sure.  I will keep with it and weight myself again on Monday and that will be one week.  If there is any feedback let me know.

Thanks

Hi everyone - I am new to the boards and new to the diet and could really use some tips. I am on day 3 of the DG plan and find that I am still hungry. I have read through lots of your posts which have been helpful and I think that the Beyond Calories version would work better for me but I did not download the BC add-on.

Does anyone know how I can purchase just the BC without having to pay for the whole diet all over. I want to finish out my DG plan then switch to BC.

Appreciate any help.

All of the posts on the site are wonderful and inspirational - I look forward to joining in your discussions! :clover:

Hi Yoga,

I am really surprised that you are hungry.  I am new too, on my 8th day but I have never been hungry on this plan.  I eat until I am satisfied.  Also have you been drinking the water, because that helps to make you full. You shouldn't be hungry though.

Hi SpanishHarlem,

Thanks for your message. I have been getting close to 8 glasses of water - on average 6.5 so that could be the issue - thanks for the reminder!

But I also find that I fill up quickly - and since we are only told to eat till satisfied and not stuffed, I find that some meals I do not eat that much. I am used to snacking all day long (which is what got me to this place to begin with) so I fill up quickly.

That is why I think the Beyond Calories plan would work better for me. Now if only I could pay for just the Beyond Calories plan

Hi everyone,

I’m new to the forum and this is the beginning of my second cycle. I’m 45 years old, 5’1” with a fairly small frame and 133 lbs (when I started Cycle 1) and would like to get to 115. I lost 6-7 pounds after the first cycle and put back 3-4 on the cheat days. I have some concerns about this which I will address in the general discussion.

I was previously on the South Beach Diet. If you are familiar with it ,it has 3 Phases – fast weight loss, slow weight loss, and maintenance. I initially did quite well with it and then modified it to add a 4th Phase, slow weight gain. I stuck with this phase until now, where I am well over my goal of 115. I do believe SBD is a very healthy way to eat long term but right now I’m looking for something a little quicker. I was hoping to lose as much as possible before my vacation on June 1st.

I like to ride my bike, taking pictures, traveling, and eating out. I’ve managed to combine these passions a few times but it can get quite pricey if I try to do it too often.

The picture of me on the left is on a biking trip when I weighed 115 and the picture on the right I’m probably 130+.

Hello Wanna,

I am new to this, my first cycle and my first cheat day.  I want to say that you after reading so many posts, that I find that everyone gains on their cheat days, but loses all + on the next cycle around. I even read somewhere that if you don't do at least 2 cheat days, that you don't lose as much weight on the next cycle.  I know someone experienced will give you some vital iformation. If not just pick throught the post, and you will find old post that discuss the cheat days.

:cool:Congrads, on losing!!!  Good for you.

Hi Spanish Harlem,

I agree about the cheat days. I know a lot of people gain but I think you have to take them to "reset" your metabolism. I need to take them to regain my sanity. My menu is fairly limited since I took out the bacon and sausage. I can't even look at another hard boiled egg or tuna. :)

Good luck on your cheat days and enjoy!

A question I would really like to know is...

well for my first day I have turkey slices and what I am confused about is do I eat the slices alone, and I also have cheese slices on a seperate day do I just keep eating the slices alone until I feel it is enough to where I am not full but still have room left over in my stomach

Shasha - That's pretty much it.  If it says you can have turkey slices and grapes for meal #2 (or whatever) you can have turkey and grapes, or just turkey or grapes.  Your choice.  But you can't mix and match to get things that necessarily "go together."

We've ALL had our share of meals that look like this:

Meal #1: Broiled flounder & scrambled eggs

Meal #2: Oatmeal & grapes

Meal #3: Chicken & roast beef

Meal #4: Frozen yogurt & bowl of green beans

Nothing goes together!  But you learn to get over it.  Remember you can generate as MANY diets as you want until you get one with combinations you can live with.  You're NOT stuck with whatever it spits out the first time!

Good luck & welcome to the board!

Welcome Shasha. I agree with Carrie, you either deal with the weird combination or eat the food that goes best with that meal. If it's breakfast and my listed meal is grapfruit and tunafish, I'll just have the grapefruit. Also, when I have frozen yogurt on the days menu I push all my meals a little later and have it for dessert.

Spanish, how did your cheat days go?

Same here, wannatravel.  I have frozen yogurt and bacon or something weird like that today.  So I'm saving that for my fourth meal.  And I get chicken AND veggies for dinner!  *shock*  A combination!  A real one!

Of course, this means I'm having nuts for breakfast and turkey slices for lunch (and green beans) but...oh well.

I guess that choice is up to you, however, I've been buying turkey sausage patties or links and they're microwavable, and they're GREAT.  Taste just like regular sausage to me.  Don't freak. :)  We're all here to help.

Also, you might want to move this discussion over to the General Discussion Board.  That's where almost everyone hangs out!

I am starting this diet on Monday so that my cheat days fall on the weekends. I used this plan sometime back and was successful in loseing about 35 lbs. As you do, you resort back to bad eating habits and obviously I gained it all back. I only lost about half of the weight I needed to lose at the time, but I did do it!

I have 70 lbs to lose so it will be a long journey for me. Also, I was using the old plan, known then as Weight Loss for Idiots but have since then purchased the new plan as it seemed to have more choices.

I am going to begin on the new plan and see how it goes and maybe switch back and forth between both. I still have a few old menus I printed up at the time, as we only had access to the site for 3 months.

I'll post again when I have started .

Congratulations on considering to start the diet; however, you might want to consider posting under one of the more active forums appropriate for your question(s) or comment(s) rather than starting a new one.

This way, you're sure to get a much quicker response.

Good luck.

It was known as Weight Loss for Idiots, back then, and you could only access the site for 3 months. I printed off some 25 menus so have that to use or alternatively the new programme that is not being offered ( I joined up again).

After loooking at both versions I prefer to use the original one as I like the food better and some of the fish choices you can eat now are very hard to find where I live It is the same exact diet, 4 meals, 11 day cyles and 3 cheat days.

I hope to be successful this time in loseing all the weight and plan to stick with it. Good luck everyone .

Hi all.........

I just downloaded the plan today.....but won't officially get started till next Monday. I need to go grocery shopping and I already did my usual shopping for the week. So I have to wait to do my own. Plus I'm going to a baby shower and graduation on Sat & Sun.

So I'm looking forward to getting started bright and early Monday.

See you all then.....

Hi Everyone!  I'm new to this forum and the diet.  I've always been pretty active, but I have a habit of binge-eating which is why I am heavier than I should be (173 lb on 5' 6" frame).  Aside from losing the extra poundage to look good, I'm really wanting to try rock climbing which is too hard for me right now at my current weight.

Does anyone have any advice for a newbie????

Also, has anyone tried the calorie-shifting diet while exercising regularly?  I don't know what regular or vigorous means, but I usually exercise twice a day if I have the time - 40-45 minutes of yoga in the morning and 30 minutes of weight training every other day and 30 minutes of cardio OR 60 minutes of cardio on days I'm not weight training.

Thanks alot!

Tasha, I'm in the same boat as you.  I only discovered this diet after I had gone shopping!  Oh well, I'm not about to throw a week's worth of groceries just to start a new diet plan.  My husband will kill me!!!

I've looked through other people's comments and feel like the hardest days will be the fruit and the veggie days.  I don't do so well when I don't get my protein.  What's your goal?  Do you have a set date?

Good luck with your start.  I think we need to indulge now before we go into bootcamp.  Keep me posted on your progress!

Hi all,

I am starting the FL4I on Monday. I haven't decided if I am going to do the regular diet or the Beyond Calories diet. Any suggestions?? I am a little worried about the 6 times a day on the Beyond Calories, however it give you a wider range of what you can eat. I don't want to get bored of the foods and then give in to eating something that is bad.

I am very excited about starting, just a little worried on how I will do.

I am not a self motivator and am hoping that this forum will give me some motivation of continuing my weight loss.

I am going to the grocery store tomorrow to make sure I have all the food that I need and like.

Looking forward to working with everyone on our weight loss and getting and giving help when I can.

Hi, JSTSMILE:

Welcome aboard!!

As I usually suggest to people, it's always a good idea to start with using the DG (Diet Generator) before trying (BC).  BC requires eating 6x/day, which can be a task within itself.  Starting with DG, which requires you to eat 4x/day, allows you to slowly increase your daily meal intake.  Once accustomed to using DG, it may be a little easier to switch to BC.

Once you start the diet, be sure to join the "FL4I - Discussion Group".  You will find lots of help and motivation to keep you going, as this is a pretty active forum.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

Hey, everyone

I have been on several diets, including atkins, and WW.  somehow i seem to loss weight the first time i am on the diet, but second time round does not work.  i have been searching the net and come accross this site,  i am at the moment on ww and lost 2 lb in 6 months (depressing).

i would like to start this diet as it seems promising, would anyone please give me more details on how to start this diet. i have a family wedding in mid july and i need to loose at least a stone, 14 lb,. going down 2 dress sizes.

i was considering atkins as i had lost 2 stones (28lb) in 3 months but the thought of having highly fat/protein diet with no veg is sort of freaking me out.

all the help and support would be appreaciated.

Hi az!  This is what I will tell you about the diet (based on my experience).   My first cycle, I lost 7 pounds.  My 2nd cycle I didn't lose as much, maybe 2-3 pounds, but that's when I lost the most inches and when my pants really started fitting better.  My 3rd cycle I only made it through half-way due to unexpected life stuff, so I did one week and took one week off.  I started again today and I have high hopes.  I think a lot of people will tell you the same thing...some cycles they lose more than others, but it's important to measure yourself first and to also not put as much weight (ha ha) on the scale as on your clothing.

Plus, I feel SO much better on this diet than I did eating "normal."  I'm not a huge fruit or veggie eater, so this plan really makes me get the nutrition my body has been craving.  I have more energy and I *feel* better all around.  Even when I didn't lose a lot of weight I noticed things like my nails grew longer (more vitamins in my diet!) and my general health was better.

So even though I didn't have a successful 3rd cycle, here I am, back again to try for a 4th time.  I've lost about 10 pounds (lost 12, gained back 2 on my cheat week).  I plan to lose those 2 pounds and at least 2-3 more this time around.

Slow weight loss is best.  While Atkins and South Beach (I've done South Beach and Weight Watchers) are great for immediate weightloss, I feel they're not realistic in the long run.  Even a non-veggie eater like myself couldn't go that long without something green (that wasn't a pistachio!).

I say give it a try.  You have nothing to lose but weight.  I do notice that now even when I'm on my cheat days I don't necessarily crave carbs and things that I did before, and I used to be a huge carb eater.  Plus, I can't eat nearly as much (quantity) as I once did!  That alone is a huge help!

Stick with the forum, too.  We're a great bunch.  I've been here about a month and it feels like home.

Good luck!

If you read through some of the existing threads that have alrleady been created, there is a wealth of information on how the diet works, e.g., "FL4I - Welcome Center", FL4I - Diet Guidelines", "FL4I - Success Stories".

The diet is very successful, but you must purchase it through fatloss4idiots.com.

I am new and have a question.  I've been doing this for a month now. So I am on my 3rd cycle.  But the menu didn't change.  Is the diet generator suppose to change every two weeks?

If you pick the same foods everytime, you probably will get the same menu (or close to it).  I believe day 2 is always fruit day and day 8 is always veggie day no matter what foods you pick.

Try changing up your food selection (even by just a couple of items) and see what you get.  If you don't like the first one, try again.  You can generate as many as you like.

Hope this helps.
