Hi All--
I hope everyone is doing great on the plan.
It feels very quiet on the thread, please post so we can all be an encouragement to one another.
Update: I'm on day 11 and i would be posting my results tomorrow, i hope that i would be losing additional weight in my next cycle and not continue losing and gaining the same 12-13lbs as i've done in the last 5 months.
Have a great on plan day everyone.

I know, it gets quiet at times. I know how you feel about being excited and wanting to discuss, but the traffic here is transient.
I have really been focusing on keeping my lean tissues and losing only fat. Since I am withing about 15 lbs of my goal, it seems time to really get a focus on that.

ok so I just noticed that my menu contains NO pasta, hot dog, hamburger, bread(other than on sandwich)... ground turkey, spagetti sauce....
Why do some people get these things and I dont have the option?

The items you listed; spag. sauce, hamburger, ect. are on the old version of the diet. They have started a newer version that includes different foods and to my understanding not as many carbs as the old version. You must have the new version. I have the old one as I've done the diet off and on(mostly off but on now) for some time. Today is my 3rd day on cycle as I was just feeling fat and need a boost. Overall I'd like to lose about 20 lbs. but will start with 10. I usually can't stick with the diet too long as I get too hungry for other things. However after about 4-5 days it is easier than the first few. I also love sweets which makes it hard for me to stick too. But this time I'm going to try to do a couple cycles to see what happens. Last time that I did a full cycle I lost 5 or 6 lbs. and only put on a few back. Good luck to you with the diet. What foods were on your plan?

My menu consists of fruits, veggies, eggs, sliced cheese, sanwiches only once!, oatmeal, cottage cheese, shrimp, flounder, tuna, beans.
I am a pretty healthy eater, only needed to drop around 7 lbs but there are NO carbs on my plan except for the sandwich.
Seems very odd... I could of done no carb without paying!

Hello everyone!
Im new to this so please bare with me . O.K. ,here goes.......I just purchased the "WL4I" program and plan to start tomorrow after i go out and buy the stuff needed.I have read many of your postings over the last year and decided to sign up here aswell to associate with others who are trying to accomplish the same task(the shedding of lbs. ) .I see that many of you have had some great results from the diet aswell as some not so good ones .I decided to give it a try none the less .I am a 34 yr. old woman with an 11 year old daughter and huband for 3 yrs.I have always struggled with my weight and have tried many different dieting techniques over the years .I was pretty active in my twentys therefore being able to keep my weight pretty decent , but now ,things have changed .Ive been able to carry my weight well but have noticed that my health is not the best and my bones are starting to feel it aswell as other pains in my body - the reason for me to ,once again ,try another diet(WL4I) .
I weigh today 209 lbs. . My ideal weight is 143 .My plan is to be 60 lbs. less by July 1st .That gives me 4 and a half months-18 weeks .Thats atleast 3.3 lbs. a week for the next4 and a half months .This will be quite the journey .I am hoping I will be able to get it off sooner so I can live a more normal yet disciplined eating plan .I love the idea of bacon and eggs for breakfast and having nuts for lunch or supper , but what I see is that every time you go to generate a new diet ,it just takes the same foods you chose and changes them around a bit .I have heard about the new "WL4I" program has items like hamburgers on occasional days or a carb .Is this true?
I am hoping that after getting 20 lbs. off in 25 days being , march 8th( if this is possible following this diet) ,I might be able to get ahold of the new WL4I program that can start to have other choices ,or try to find substitutes for the foods I am eating .Plus i dont think in the long run that eating bacon and eggs 7 or 8 times in 11 days is really good for the cholesterol .
I am all carbs and sweet deserts type of person and what I eat goes straight to the middle mostly .I hope someone who can identify with any of this will share some valuable points or their thoughts with me on any of this .
I am very happy to have come to this place and have met you all and been inspired by your stories .If any of you have any weight loss tips or progress reports please let me know and of course about substituting foods or new WL4I diet .Thanks and good luck to you all . Xndrex.

hi there!
Good luck to you and congratulations!
The old version of the plan has the pasta and hamburger and hot dog. The new one does not. I was a bit dissapointed as there are literally NO carbs on my diet. Just one sandwich in 11 days. So it will be tough. But I am going to try!!
If you find out how to get the old version can you post it?
thank!

Hi Victoria and all!
Thanks for getting back.I just punched in "weight loss for idiots" and automatically I was directed to the program download .When I signed up , I checked out the handbook and rules ,then went to the generator to pick my favorite foods from the list of foods they gave me .There was no option for hotdogs or hamburgers on it , just nuts , fruit ,chicken or fish , deli meat , turkey and cottage cheese .Its mostly fruits and veggies and bit of turkey or chicken through the day at one meal , but bacon or sausage and eggs every morning almost .No potatoes .The only really good thing about it is the bacon and eggs and the deli sandwich and nuts and cheese on some days ,but definately no hot dogs or hamburgers .I dont know if I was directed to an older version or what as i see that others have followed a newer version allowing them to have the occasional hotdog or hambuger .I wondered if that is a newer version , as I never saw anything like that b4 .Anyways ,I am going to do the one I have but hope to hear more about this other one aswell as substituting foods and how to get it .If you have any idea about it please let me know .Thanks.......

Dobie, I was wondering if you've had both the new and the old version of WL4I and if so which you like better? Also do you ever get cravings for sweets like chocolate? And if so, do you indulge-or at least have a taste and does it affect your cravings -or Anyone else?
Thanks ,Elsie

Two big questions:
- New vs. old
- Chocolate or other cravings.
1. New Vs. Old
I am a child of the 80s. I like them and the fashions and memories are dear to me. So what, you ask? I like what is comfortable to me. I started with the old one so I like it. It is where I had my success.
As I read through "Burn the Fat and Feed the Muscle", I realize that it has concepts that are the back bone for both diets. I lost more on the old diet than the one time that I tried the new diet, but I can't say that the variety of foods didn't have me eating too much. Since I was not counting calories, I can't say why I did not lose weight, but I spent the two weeks on the new cycle ONLY burning off what I gained on my cheat weekend. It was disappointing so I went back.
However, many here are successful on the new and I see how it aligns so both can work.
2. Chocolate cravings. If having a piece of chocolate keeps you on the diet, you have to do what you have to do. However, sugar is a drug.
<soapbox>When you eat simple sugars, your blood sugar spikes. This causes insulin to spike. In a normally functioning person, this will make you want to have more sugar to counter act the insullin that is slightly behind it. This is how God designed our bodies. Back when Moses was wondering through the desert, if one had berries, the body would want more.
Ever have a bite of something and all the suddent say, "Wow! I did not realize how hungry I was!" That is insulin kicking in and you gorge.
Why? The fat person (explorer, pilgram, settler, etc.) survives the winter on the stores. Jump ahead to the 21st century and our bodies are the same, but our life styles are very different!
Now, that is a normal person. Those of us who are overweight have a high propensity for being insulin resistant. This is bad! Same scenario where you eat sugar, insulin spikes to bring it down. It does not (since you resist it) so it creates MORE insulin which makes you crave more!
It is adictive and not healthy.</soapbox>
But if you can control it, have a bit with one of your carb meals and it will not prevent weight loss if you are not adding significant calories (<50 is ideal).
Just my opinon.

| I have the old and the new, was so nosey I purchased the new. Very different. Starting my cycle with the new. I do like the carbs on the old and I did lose weight when I stick to it. Which I did for 5 days lost 9 pounds and cheated and went psycho. I got tired of the chicken and tuna so decided I would try this one. Might alternate. Anyway I am sure both plans work. I always lose quickly but gain back quicker. I will keep you guys udpated. Today is my second day and fruit day with one sandwich. I am hungry but it is only one day.

Well survived my fruit day with one sandwich. Hubby made roastbeef, mashed potatoes, buttered corn and garlic bread for him and the boys last night. Thought I was going to break but held steady. Starting my 3rd day and down 5 pounds. Gee only another 40 to go..lol
I think I will switch back and forth from old to new plan. Definetly missing the hamburger and pasta from the old version. But I like the cashews and peanuts on this plan. Well just wanted to give an update. Good luck all.

Dobie, Thanks much for the great answers to my two questions! I'm a little older however I too love the 80's as my kid's were 80's children. So many good memories-music and big hair! The soapbox info on chocolate is very practical and useful!
Tonia80, My Dad used to say years ago if you watch what you eat your stomach will eventually shrink and you wont need to eat as much. I don't know if that is really true but I think after you've been careful about eating on the days one thru eleven, on cheat day's you naturally won't feel like eating as much and if you listen to your stomach saying I'm not really too hungry, instead of your mind saying I should eat everything since this is my cheat time, you should be ok. If your stomach does say feed me -moderation is key, as they say. Good luck and enjoy the benefits of your loss!

Tonia,
- DRINK YOUR WATER. Many times you want to snack is dehydration. Keep up the water
- Stick to four meals a day, but choose the foods you want
- Stop when you are satisfied.
You will gain some water weight if you have salt, sugar (including flour and simple carbs), or alcohol, but you will lose it quickly if you stay smart. Drink water 20 minutes before each meal, eat slowly, and get in some fruit or vegitable and supplement with the good stuff.
If you blow it, DON'T STRESS! My first cycle ever I lost 13 or so. Then I cheated like crazy (NOT doing the above) and put it ALL back on. It took the next cycle to get it back off, but then I kept it off.
Dobie.

| Hi all, well I am finishing day 5 and am down 6 pounds. I am still motivate and that is good. I am going to start excercising. I figured I would lose the most on the first few days. I also figured that as the 11 days go on my weight loss would slow so figured I would do the first 5 or 6 days without excercising. Not sure if it will make a difference but thought it might. I know that my veggie day is coming up and I have seen on this site some sort of chili recipe. If anyone knows it I would really appreciate it being posted again. Do need some help...my boss is in town next Wednesday and he is taking the managers out. They have decided on an Indian restaurant, I have never had Indian food and don't like curry. It will be my 10th day. On that day I have scheduled 1) shrimp & sausage, 2) scrambled eggs and bacon, 3) yogurt and bowl of pinto beans, 4) peanuts and cashews. Any suggestions as to what I should do to maximize my weight loss and reduce the damage. Would appreciate it thank you.

Hi all, well this is day 6 of the "new diet" and I am down 6.5 pounds. This is much lower then when I was on the old version. So once I have finished this cycle I am going to go back to the old version.
Just wanted to give you my experience. Thanks

| I'm not on this diet, but my beans/peas (with the exception of garden and marrowfat peas) have very similiar nutrition (calories per 100g, calories from protein, calories from carbs etc.) so if pinto beans are fine, the other beans must be fine as well.

Thanks Dobie for the advise. It seemed as though the cheat days was as hard for me as my diet days. I tried to make sure I did 4 meals but I only could do 3. I gained 3 pounds back for the 12 I lost. So I guess that came from eating out for dinner for my 3 cheat days. Now I am back into the next cycle of the routine. Fruit day is today . So I'm hoping it will go better than the last one . Have a good day

Hi everyone.
Just found this forum today so I hope it's OK for me to launch right on in! I've been reading all the posts in this topic and a few people have disappeared off - hopefully because they're busy getting on with their lives and not because they've had a bad few days!
I started on Saturday (newer version) and couldn't resist weighing myself after only two days - five pounds off. Yahoo! I know a lot of this could be water but who cares, eh? I deliberately only chose the lower fat choices, figuring that if I leave off nuts and cheese, that should help me lose all the quicker. Maybe not, but I'll try.
So, I'd really like to have a regular thing going on here to help our encouragement levels. Keep up the good work everyone. It will all be worth it when we feel fit and healthy and wear what we want.

| Hi i'm also new to the site. I've been on the diet since 9th January and lost one stone (14lbs) so far and I have been eating nuts and cheese. I've found the diet really effective, even when I've cheated a little bit, so I would really encourage you to stick at it. I've also found that doing some light exercise really helps. I'd like to hear how you get on.

That's brilliant Tonia80 - very encouraging! I'm going to stay off the scales for a few days if I can, so will report back by the weekend. Hope to be reading more success stories in the meantime though!

| Well, I have reached the end of my fourth cycle. Days off start tomorrow. Feeling a bit disheartened as I weigh the same as I did at the end of my last cycle. The reason for it is during my last three days off I was pretty bad and put on 4lbs. I have lost them all again but not lost anymore. It really puts you off, especially as I have been doing more exercise than i have before. I'm now a bit nervous about having the days off in case the same thing happens again and I get stuck in a rut. Goint to try to be not as bad but going to a wedding on saturday and my mum is visting and she will insist on feeding me! Sorry for the moan! Hope everyone is doing/feeling better about it all. Have a nice weekend.

Moans are all good! That's what we are here for! At least in moderation.
I understand your frustration. I have been there too. All I can tell you is that to lose weight, a constant effort is needed. Cheat days mean relaxing and choosing your own foods, but you still have to choose the right foods and eat in moderation. the idea in your mind needs to be only relaxing and eating cereal, or bread, or things like that, but stay to the four meals and drink your water!
You cannot (as I have done) eat ColdStone Ice cream after one of your meals. You shouldn't make it a meal unless you really set it up carefully. What I think you would have to do to make that work is:
- Make it a small serving (about or less than 400 calories), not large as I did. (400 calories for a meal on the cheat days would give you a solid 1600 calories for the day. Go to http://www.caloriesperhour.com/index_burn.html and click BMR & RMR Calculator for what your minimum is, but don't exceed your calories burned in a day even on your cheat days!!)
- Make sure you won't be hungry again shortly after. (I have posted my understanding of the affects of insulin here http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/view_topic.php?id=2653&forum_id=3&jump_to=32964#p32964
- Make sure you drink your water so the sugar affect is minimized
- Eat fibrous foods when you can (fruit, veggies, whole grains) with meals since
To me, these are the keys to balancing the joy of cheat days and keeping from gaining anything but water weight (which sugar and salt will make you do!)
Hope this helps,
Dobie

| hey guys!!! I am on day 7 on FL4I and im already down 11 lbs. I dont know how this works.. but it does!! Im just hoping I wont gain it all back on my cheat days. Just a week ago I was looking around these forum sceptically saying that I would never loose that much weight in a week... and I did!! I have about 25-30 lbs to get to my goal. I did have one question.. when the plan refers to sausage links... does that mean breakfast or dinner sausage?? It didnt specify and I didnt wanna jack up the plan lol.. Also does anyone have any advice on maintaining the weight loss after the diet??? I think I should incorporate excercise after the diet to shock my body a little bit.. because I have lost the weight without any exercising... besides normal walking around everyday... but I am drinking 10-12 glasses of water a day and eating the foods as plain as possible. I made my boyfriend chicken parm the other night and so I substituted a small piece for my last meal which I shouldnt have done but the scale hasnt changed in the last few days.. so whew!!

What I recommend is figuring out how you are going to eat for your maintenance and move toward that the closer you get. Keep eating four (or five, or even six) meals a day. Drink your water, exercise, stop when you are staisfied.
This is a way of eating and can be the maintenance. If you "go off this" and do not do something different than you did before, you will gain right back. So watch your calories.
Counting calories is not a lifestyle...it is an education toward a means. Learn what you need to eat to maintain and you won't have to follow these diet plans for the rest of your life. You will eat these foods and hopefully keep on healthy meals, but you will have more flexibility as you maintain for life.

Hi Everyone!
After millions of diets, millions of attempts to lose weight- I am on the fruit day. I like the foods I am eating and I am not hungry- even though it is only day 2. Does anyone besides me have a considerable amount of weight to lose? I have seen people on this site talking about 15 or 20 pounds to lose. How about a LOT of weight to lose?

I lost 50 pounds and have 20 or so to go, but I have not really been trying too hard. Now I am back focused, but I am still slipping up on some bad habits (eating out on Wed night and Sat morning) that I need to get rid of.
My brother has about 100 and is almost a third of the way all just this year.
So yes, many of us have a whole lot more than 20 to lose.

| Hi everybody. I'm new to this diet - just started today. In the past, I've set short term goals for myself that have been way too hard to achieve, and then I've gotten discouraged. My current goal is to try to lose 60 pounds by Christmas. I'm going to the beach, and I want to look good - for the first time. Do you think this diet will help me to succeed with my goal? Any advice and encouragement would be appreciated! Thanks!

Sure you can do it. That is less than 2 lbs a week which is aggressive but doable! Just be sure to follow all the rules and keep your goal in mind!

Hi everyone, Just started this diet yesterday. I am finding it very hard. Maybe because I'm a picky eater. Today is my fruit and 1 sandwich day. I am starving. I am wondering if pinapple is allowed today. I am trying so hard to stick to this but its hard being a mother of 2 and having to cook for them. But reading the forum gives me the extra push to try to succeed. Thanks everyone keep posting!

Hang in there, Teena. it is hard at first. Your body is used to eating very differently and it is sometimes hard to wait the time it takes for it to readjust. But you can do it!
Drink your water and if you like them some diet drinks. Then after 2.5 hours, eat again and this time, eat alot more. You see, you probably need to have 300-400 calories per meal. So this can be 6-8 medium apples (rediculous, I know) or two bananas and two apples (300 calories depending on the sizes).
The key is to eat fibrous fruits to give your body somehting to work on for the calories such as apples, oranges, pears, and strawberries all have about 2g fiber for 50 calories of fruit. So 300 calories is 12 g fiber and you should not feel as hungry.
Be sure you eat enough!
You can do it. By day five, I was hardly ever hungry and when it was, I realized that it was my body saying, "Hmmm, for once you have not stuffed me to where I never need food so I guess I have to start burning my precious fat stores."

Thanks Dobie,
It's nice to know that there are people out there that I can talk to for support. I actually cheated last night at a party, but today I'm right back on it. I feel horrible about it. Am I allowed to eat bananas and fresh pinapple I wonder?? I have about 25-30 pounds to lose. Day 2 I weighed myself and it actually said I gained a half pound. Today is day 3 and even though I wanna quit cause I feel like I'm not gonna lose anything, I'm gonna keep going. Its only 11 days right. Thanks for your support!!!
