Hey!!! Gonnabesize12 !!
We are glad you are here ! This diet is GREAT! I am a newbie too, just on my 9th day of my 2nd cycle. On my first cycle of 11 days I lost 13lbs !!!!! So, it works! Have you read it through real well ? We have MANY tea drinkers here , so no need to stop that. Also are you doing the diet generater ? Or Beyond Calories? On the diet generater you can pick which ever meal you want to have first, meal 4 if you want. This is different than any other diet , but you only pick the foods you like to eat. There are lots of REALLY smart and wonderful people around here to help you, that have had great success. Im excited for you this really is a cool diet and an even cooler forum, glad your here!! Kyan

cowgirl,
i believe the fruit day is what caused me to cheat. i was doing fine and then started the fruit and that sent me into a carb craving. i have cheated today and i am so mad at myself.

I started on the WLFI today. I bought it awhile ago, but hadn't used it. I was doing the usual calorie deficit and controlled carb routine. It worked for awhile then I hit a rotten plateau for about the third time and I was about giving up. I am 57, weight 195lbs and have lost already 28pounds.....but need to lose so much more, hence started WLFI today.
I am finding I am hungry. This is four meals not five (I was doing five) I was mainly living on fish and chicken salads and oatmeal (Porage for brekkie) Today brekkie was a shock - hardboiled eggs (2) and 100grams cottage cheese.
Not liking this that much so far. I can manage the water, am missing my cup of tea (withmilk no sugar) and basically couldnt care less about cheat days, just wanna lose the weight as fast as i can.
Has anyone any ideas about a better breakfast?
also I am concerned about the fruit only days
I will let you know how I get along. and post any weight loss on the weight lost part here.
Cheers :0) and hugs
Hi Gonnabe and welcome! Please be sure to post your intro on the General Discussion thread. That's the most active one - everyone checks in there and you'll find lots of support to help you get used to the plan. Those of us who have stuck to it absolutely love it and many stick with it long after reaching their goals - just to maintain - because it's so easy once you get the hang of it.
Also be sure to read the Diet Tips and Guidelines thread - very good info there. Like Kyan said, if you are using the Diet Generator, you can pick what foods you want. And, if you don't like the menu you generated, simply hit your browser's <back> button and then click <generate menu> again and you'll have a whole different menu. You can do this as many times as you like until you get a menu that you feel you can live with for 11 days. And, be sure to choose "Deli Sandwich" from the foods list. The only time you will see this in your menu is on Fruit Day. And, believe me, you will be ready for it!
We have lots of suggestions for fruit days, so be sure to ask in General Discussion for everyone's favorites. Cooked fruit with cinnamon and sweetener is a favorite, as are smoothies. And, since we've determined that tomatoes are technically a fruit, lots of us have tomato soup on fruit day.
What do you like to eat for breakfast? My favorites are eggs scrambled with cheese, or German sausages split and grilled, then topped with cheese. If you like oatmeal, be sure to choose it when you generate a menu. You won't get it everyday, but at least occasionally. Also, check the Recipe thread - lots of good ideas there as well.
Will be looking for you in General Discussion!
Hugs,
Annie
PS - I'm 2 years older than you, and this is the only plan I have found that will move my sluggish metabolism, even if only very slowly.

Hi Gonnabesize12! Welcome. I just erased my original post as Annie said about everything I was going to say! The sandwich is VERY important on fruit day! And the TIPS thread really will help. See you over in general discussion for more help! I was like you... I just wanted to lose the weight in the fastest way possible. So it was not hard for me to stick to the diet and I did it. Best wishes to you! You can do it!!!

Hi Sam. You are in the Fat Loss 4 Idiots forum of this website and FL4I is a diet. I am curious as to how you found us, and if you are looking to start this diet, or are in the wrong forum. This site has many forums, so is there something in particular you are interested in (diet, exercise, etc.)? Maybe I can help you.

Hi there,
I did this diet some years ago (2006) and was very successful. Unfortunately in June 2007 I had an accident when abroad on my honeymoon (I live in Scotland) and badly broke my ankle and leg.
I had it operated on whilst abroad but struggled in my recovery. I then discovered I was pregnant in April 2008 and had my gorgeous baby boy on Christmas day 2008.
Unfortunately throughout the process of my accident and pregnancy the weight has gone back on and I'm struggling to shift it particularly since my ankle is still giving me alot of trouble. I had it x-rayed recently and it showed one of the fractures had never healed and another fracture had healed squint so I walk with my foot slightly outward and with a very pronounced limp. I also have arthritis in the joint.
I may soon have to get my ankle re-broken and reset or if the arthritis is too bad I may have to get the joint removed and the ankle fused.
Not good news for a 35 year old but this has given me a kick up the #%@&! to lose weight again in prep for the op and also to be healthy for my six month old.
Oh and also to get my self esteem back.
So anyway, hi and looking forward to spending time here again.

Hi guys,
I just bought this diet this morning and I'm currently on day 1. I'm almost 18 years old, 200 lbs (6'2) and I want to lose about 20-30 lbs of fat. I've been reading through all these success stories and they are very motivating. I know I can stick through an 11- day plan to lose 5-11 lbs. I've remained at 200 lbs for almost 2 years now and exercise, watching what I eat, etc has not worked. I hope this is the diet for me (I've never really dieted before, just calorie counted (2000)).
Look forward to posting my after picture (got my before one which isn't too attractive hahah).

Hello Sunshine,
Thank you for the Welcome!
I'm on cycle 3 / day 5 of FL4I. My goal was to lose 17 lbs and as of Wednesday I've lost 8 lbs... so, I'm on my way! It may not seem like a lot to lose for some, but to me it is. When you're only 5'2" you don't have much room to carry extra weight! I would like to look good in my swimsuit before the summer ends. I've allowed myself to gain some extra pounds around my mid-section over the past 3 yrs that I really want to get rid of, so here I am!
It's been a long time since I've been on a diet, but so far so good!

Losinglbs - Yes, Larry (he goes by llalonde on the forum) is a guy, and has been here since December of 2007. He gets pretty busy, but pops in now and then. He should be popping in any day now, as I PMed him. He has a lot of insight and may be able to relate with you from a male perspective. Also, Cheetah is one of our male members, but he has been a little scarce recently. He may be on vacation, or just reading the threads and not commenting. But you will hear form him, too, I am sure. There have been a couple others, but they haven't posted much recently. I hope you don't feel too overwhelmed by all of us women. We all share a common bond, so I hope you feel at home here.

Hello all,
Am I doing this right??
Anyway, I too lurked for a while before signing up -- this looks like a GREAT place to get real support from people going through the same thing, and I look forward to much more reading and posting to keep me on track!
I'm on Day 4 of the FL4I and so far I love it. I'm never hungry (and I have a huge appetite) and I like the food. I honestly think I could stick with a modified version of this forever, or return to regularly it as a maintenance method once I lose the weight.
That said, Day 2 (Fruit Day) is sheer #%@&!--I love fruit but GAH--that was the only day I had the permitted glass of wine, just to get through it!!..I won't use the wine on other days because in my experience, alcohol slows my weight loss considerably. It's just not worth it.
As to goals: I'm on the first stage of weight loss, with a goal of 37 pounds to lose this first round. This will get me to a size where I know I looked good and then I'll decide if I need to lose more. (I know 37 lbs doesn't sound like a huge amount but on my small frame it looks more like I'm carrying around an extra 50-60 lbs. Not good .)
One other note, I'm a vegetarian but I chose the regular diet because I didn't like the food selections on the vegetarian list. Where the diet calls for meat, I use a veggie substitute -- for instance, I use vegetarian sausage for the sausage links, and a veggie burger for the "deli sandwich" on Day 2.

Hey pretty!
I'm also on day 4 of my first cycle so welcome. This forum has been great to me so far as well.
Since I'm new I rather give you any advice although I might suggest re-generating a new menu based on vegetarian items and start day 5 from there.... I'm not sure if that will substitute correctly or not. Also there on tip/tricks topic, webfairy made a post about substitutions for items. Perhaps check that page out?
Again I would take my post with a grain of salt!
Welcome,
Robert

That is what most people do but just 30 minutes ago I couldn't resist the urge sinceI was at the gym and they have scales all over the place...
LOST 6 LBS already in four days! I'd imagine 4-5 lbs is water loss but I haven't been under 200 lbs in a while and I'm at 194 now!

I made it when I finished my shift at my restaurant job and used an enormous wineglass to make a Giant Cocktail -- Anything to get through Fruit Day, right?
On Day 6 am a little concerned about upcoming Vegetable Day. I love salads but are they enough to fill you up meal after meal?
One thing I enjoy is a canned product (Hunt's or Del Monte, can't remember) that is sliced zucchini in tomato sauce. With a little parmesan cheese on top it's delicious, you can almost pretend you're eating pasta -- ALMOST HA HA. Maybe I'll just make some homemade tomato sauce and throw it on top of every vegetable dish??

Hi PP...I make zucchini in long shreds, or spaghetti squash(super easy to make in the micro), or french style green beans with marinara sauce over and parmesan/romano cheese. Veggie chili is great...Larry posted a recipe on the discussion...you can throw it into the crockpot and have it ready for dinner. I like to take fatfree refried beans with green chilis(I stir in a little cumin) and top with salsa and grated cheddar and cilantro...even a dallop of fatfree sourcream. There are so many really tasty dishes. Oh and coleslaw...regular or asian style. Get creative and veggie day will become one of your favorites...most of us now LOVE veggie day...even though we did not think that was possible

I am new here. I am on day 4 of the diet and have done well until today. I am suffering from what I call the detox of it all. I have a headache and a tummy ache.
I am 46 and weighed 197 when I started. This is 20 pounds heavier than last July. I was ill for about 6 months and put on 20 pounds.

Welcome Combogirl! I had a hard first cycle with headaches as well. Some here take a fiber supplement for the tummy. You will adjust. I feel absolutely GREAT eating this way now. but the first couple of fruit days were very detoxing for me...plus I think my body was only used to burning carbs so it took a while to adjust to all the protein...but I did and my body is lean and strong and loves the protein now. It is an adjustment for sure....hang in there and be sure to drink all your water!

Hi combogirl. I am pretty new myself and I just have to say that this place is the greatest! You'll absolutely love all the support here.
I think the headache and tummy ache may be from your body adjusting to a new way of eating. I had a tummy ache the first cycle too, but it passed. If you read other threads, you'll see you are not alone. Are you drinking all your water? It's amazing how much the water flushes things out.
Don't give up! Even if you messed up today, start again tomorrow like nothing happened.

That's what we are all here for . We're all in this together. I was a bit skeptical at 9 lbs in 11 days when I first saw the diet. However, I guess the depth of the weight loss is dependent on how overweight you are and how bad your eating habits were before. I'm 30 lbs overweight and had HORRIBLE eating habits (drank very little water too) so the diet worked extremely well so far this first cycle...

Welcome aboard!! Today is Cycle 1, Day 8 for me.
I can't wait until weigh-in. I keep telling myself to keep my expectations low -- and in any case I'd be happy with any loss, but I'm hoping for a big drop like others have had. It is really hard to stay off that scale!!

PrettyP: You are very strong to be able to do that! I can't help myself everytime I'm at the gym and see the scale... it's a good thing I've lost quite a few pounds otherwise I might be a little discouraged and cheat a little more.

Hi all! I'm on day 5 of cycle 1. I'm hoping this is the answer I've been looking for and so far, so good. I have found this diet easy to follow and I'm hopeful that the scale will show that it's been worthwhile. I was misdiagnosed with depression. Can't blame the doc-I had post-partum depression with both my children (7 and 4) and the symptoms were right in line with PPD symptoms. 2 years and 30 lbs later we discovered it was my thyroid needing a little pick me up instead of depression. So, here I am. I have been browsing the FL4I forum and decided to "weigh" in. I'm hoping the addition of your support and encouragement will make this journey not only easier, but more enjoyable!
Looking forward to joining you!

Stella - Welcome!! I hope you join us in general discussion so everyone can meet you. I have hypothyroidism, so I know where you are coming from. I had it once before, after my 3rd (and last) child. They thought is was post partum depression at first and then found the thyroid problem. But I went off the meds after a year or two and all of a sudden 20 years later, here I am with it again. What a difference the thyroid meds made, though! But it really didn't make it much easier that I was still fat, after the meds helped me to stop gaining weight! So I found this diet and lost over 45 lbs in 4 1/2 months and I am happy as can be with this diet. It is really wonderful, and it also taught me better eating habits so after I lost the weight I was able to keep it off for almost 9 months now! I think you are going to like it here. We have a wonderfully supportive group, and that is half the battle. Let us know how you are doing and if we can help with any questions or food ideas.

Hi, everyone,
I'm brand spanking new this evening. I will start my first cycle tomorrow ==I've got my menus, have done my shopping and am all ready to go! I am almost 48 years old and have struggled with weight all of my life. I've had some normal years, but mostly have felt heavy. Sadly, even when I was a normal weight (looking back at pictures), I thought I was heavy at the time and didn't enjoy it! Our minds can sure do a number on us, huh?
Anyway, I've been working two jobs and raising 4 kids alone for the last ten years.
As much as I've tried to be careful, I have slowly gained weight every year. I'm now 5 foot 7 inches and 218 pounds. Very upsetting. I really don't eat anywhere near what my friends do, and yet I not only don't maintain, I GAIN. I am hoping very very very much that this diet jumpstarts my metabolism!
I am a bit confused because I see people posting about things such as mixed nuts and ricotta cheese. Those weren't options when I created my menu? Are there more options available on the Beyond Calories plan? (I think that is what it was called.)
Do any of you have any recommendations on which plan is more helpful?
Thanks very much; after I've gone through a cycle or two, I hope to be able to contribute advice to this forum, too!

Hi lf4k welcome to a new way of eating. I am not sure about the ricotta cheese but I do know (and I do it myself) that peanuts / cashews etc can be substituted for mixed nuts. I am guessing the same applies to the ricotta cheese. As long as you don't make too many changes to the plan it helps to give a little bit of variety.

| Lf4k - Welcome! You may want to comeon over to the general discussion thread and meet everyone. You will get more answers there, as well. Like Kiwi said, you can sub any kind of nut for another nut. Same with fish. Some people sub ricotta for the cottage cheese. You just have to be careful when you sub as it can throw off your losses by subbing something not allowed. Have you read the Diet Tips & Guidelines thread? That has a lot of valuable information. You may want to check it out. Let us know how you are doing and if you have any questions.

Hi, Kiwi and Webfairy,
Thank you so much for the warm welcomes. Yes, I have read the Tips forum and it is very helpful. I've also devoured the testimonials and they are so encouraging! I have a little bit of hope that maybe this is finally going to work for me!
I'm finishing up Day 2, fruit day of course. So far, overall, pretty good I think. I did end up eating a small -- very small -- handful of nuts at 4:00, which I regret. But my sandwich was soooooo far off still....hoping that won't be enough to affect my results.
Thank you for answering the questions re: nuts and ricotta cheese.
I haven't been hungry (except at 4:00 today!) and actually had to kind of groan and force down the 4th meal yesterday; this is a whole lot more food than I'm used to eating so far.
I've got "delicious shrimp" coming up tomorrow and have no idea how to cook that (without alfredo sauce, etc.) so I'm off to the recipe boards! Thanks again for the warm welcome.

| Lf4k - What I would do with the shrimp was boil them, and make my own cocktail sauce with some ketchup, lemon juice and a bit of horseradish. I love them just like that. Or you could do a light spray of PAM and saute them with some onions and even tomatoes if you like and eat them like that. I loved getting shrimp with eggs, as I would scramble them together. I even got one of the techs at worked hooked on shrimp and eggs now! So those are just a couple of ideas.
