Hi there
On the new plan you can have Salsa as an accompanyment to all your meals-- either cooked salsa or raw( look in google for how to make.
I eat my home made raw salsa all the time, with almost every meal.
So for example, using fathairy's question-- I would have had cashews and salsa and given the milk a miss.
To slightly adapt this' salsa with everything' - if I have scrambled egg,( 1 yolk, 3 whites) I have grilled tomotoes with BBQ sause on as an accompanyment, as salsa is predominantly tomatoes.
I love reading all the different ideas on how the plan works for all of us. Sometimes these little tips gets you through a 'boring' day.

| hello, thanks for the tip about salsa, dont think i would like it with the cashews, but tomorrow one of my meals is ham & walnuts so think the salsa will go nicely with that. it says you can have 3 tbsps of low-cal dressing any recommendations? as always make my own dressing with extra virgin olive oil and a vinegar, but these are not allowed and yet yucky tomato sauce(which i loathe) is & bbq sauce( which i have thought about coating a chiken breast with & then cooking for when i have to eat chicken) Last edited on 22 January 2008 12:33 pm by fathairy

| To the best of my knowledge, theres no way to get it. They only offer the new version now. Some people have the old version because they bought it so long ago.

I signed up around the first of September and am still getting in. I don't believe there is a time limit for the diet generator. I have never heard anyone come back and say that they had to pay more to use it after 90 days.

Hi
I have been on this plan since Feb last year and I can still get menus from the diet generator, and I have not paid another dollar/penny for the site.

Hi everyone! I am not only a new member but have NEVER been in a chat situation before. This is amazing. I have just started FL4I and am looking forward to great things. I posted some questions about fresh frozen veggies and fruit on another spot. Is there a reason we cannot use fresh frozen if something is out of season? Also, my daughter started with me and is VERY active ie: track and aerobics everyday. Needless to say she has very little if any to lose but...the web site said we should not do extensive exercise. Will this pose a problem for her? Also, does anybody not drink fluids with their meal so as to get enough food? I noticed I can fill up on water during the meal and I am hungry w/in a couple of hours. Any suggestions? I am so glad you are all here! Thanks.

How old is your daughter? If shes still growing I would say not to have her do the diet with you. If shes active and doesnt have any weight to loose she should be eating more carbs than this diet has on it. My daughter ice skates so she trains daily. She does the diet with me... with additional items. If Im to eat Roast Beef slices, She will have a roast beef sandwich. When I make dinner, I make side dishes for the kids. She's 14 though. They need to learn to eat propery! They eat salad or mixed veggies (stir-fry) for dinner, but I add grilled chicken to it.
I do not drink water while eating unless something doesnt go down right. My nutritionalist insists on this. For exactly the same reason you stated. You will not eat the right amount of food if your tummy is full of water. Just make sure you are still getting your 8 glasses a day.

Thanks so much for the info! Do you have suggestions about fresh frozen?
Thanks again. This helps so much. Oh, my daughter is 16 and has about 7 lbs to lose.

| To be honest, frozen veggies is all I use. Fresh here in Hawaii is so expensive. Unless its a local fruit or vegetable. Frozen is the same as fresh. I use stir fry bags all the time. I buy the ones where the stir fry sauce in separate from the veggies. So I can lightly flavor the veggies. This seems to work for me. I sometimes use just plain soy sauce. However, my nutritionalist says to stay away from soy sauce because it has so much sodium that it will make you retain water!!!

Thanks! That really helps a lot! How long have you been on this program? It does seem to be logical way of eating although I can tell I am going to be a bit hungry. Today is my first day and I drank with my meals so I don't think I took in enough calories. I have 50 lbs to lose so that's a real treat! At least I am doing something though instead of staying fat.
Thanks again,

Hey there. I lost 10 pounds on the 1st cycle of this diet but now I'm stuck! I wonder if it could be all the nuts...a cup of peanuts or almonds is anywhere from 600-800 calories! Does anyone else eat alot of nuts and still loose weight? I should also mention I have been running about 15 miles a week for months and am trying to get rid of this last 20 pounds. Should I cut back the nuts as an entire meal choice? Thanks.

| I still do the old menu, which has mixed nuts on it. I only had nuts twice this cycle. Ive never had it cause me not to lose weight. I put my nuts into a small bowl so I dont over eat them. They are high in calories and sodium! Dont eat them out of the jar/can!!!

I share your concern about nuts. They are extremely caloric. If I don't lose the weight I want to, they will be the first item dropped from the food generator list of choices. I'm still new at this so I can't tell you if the diet is really working or not. It's still a work in progress for me.

Hi,
You can only have the foods listed within each meal. For instance, you can't pull something from breakfast and dump it into lunch. You can eat the meals in any order you want, just as long as they are eaten on the correct day: day 1 on the first day, day 2 on the second day, etc.
Forget about food combinations you have grown accustomed to. They don't apply on this diet.

I haven't been able to find this topic on the forum yet. My daughter is a little over 4 months old and is still getting around 70% of her nutrition from breast milk (30 % formula). Of the 45 lbs. I gained during pregnancy I'm still holding onto 30. I'm planning on starting this program this week but just eating a little more of everything. I've heard that rapid fatloss can release toxins into breastmilk so I'm shooting for a slow loss. I also intend to keep taking my postpartum multi-vitamin and plan to start taking a calcium supplement. I've picked milk as one of my choices but I don't think the small amount allowed would be enough on its own. Does anyone else have experience breastfeeding while on the FL4I program?
Laura-Lynn
Hi Laura-Lynn,
I believe this is a medical question that is best answered by a professional. The WL4I Diet, at least the way I'm doing it, has at least moderate amount of calories, sodium, and fat. This might not be the best approach for you. Also, it doesn't have a lot of fruit, which might be somewhat of a problem.
The La Leche League recommends that a woman consult her physician before attempting a weight-loss program.

GOOD LUCK !
Sorry, we're not supposed to eat peas on WL4I. They're legumes, not vegetables. I know, bad news, but try brussels sprouts instead. Really not that bad. They have a natural sweetness to them.

| Ive always had nuts. Ive always lost weight. Ill even sit down with a bolw of pistachios!!! They take longer to eat because you have to open them yourself. I love pistachios. I know they arent on the nut list, but to me... nuts are nuts! Everytime I have put my mind to this diet I have lost around 30 lbs.

BB, only choose nuts once..not peanuts AND cashews...eat them for your "snack meal" rather than your supper. I save mine for a midafternoon snack or a late evening snack and i eat them s-l-o-w-l-y and chew them well and have a big glass of water with them. Two thoughts..are you still drinking the 10 cups of water a day ..it is key for metobolic increase...and reread the excercise part...I too have been a big runner..but...they say brisk walking burns the body fat while running burns the carbs you've eaten that day. Some of us have lightened up abit on the fast aroebic excercise for the fat burning effect while we are losing or added a walk also.

Nir,
The only beans I get to eat on vegetable day with the Idiot diet is Pinto Beans. They make for a nice soup when combined with the legal vegetables.
The diet also calls for baked beans, but they fall on other days.

Hi everyone.
My name is Stefanie and i'm new here. I have gained almost a hundred pounds from predisone and now i'm having a really hard time getting it off.
I'm loosing hope and have tried everything out there. I happened to stumble upon the diet fatloss4idiots and was wondering if it works.
It costs 39$ for the basic package and 55$ with the new thing they've added. I'm a student and just don't have that kind of money. They won't let you pay with paypal unless you have a credit card which i don't have. I don't have any family so I don't know anyone with a credit card. I can pay by echeck but I'm a little nervous to do that cause it asks for my license number. Also i'm Canadian so I don't know if that would work.
I'm really nervous to spend that kind of money for something i don't know much about. Can anyone help me please? Would it be possible to try it out? If someone has a log in info could I just pay them like 10$ to try it for a month and see if it'll work for me before I plunk down that kind of money? I don't know if that's possible.
It would be a lot of money for me to plunk down even the 39$ that's a whole week of groceries for me but I'm willing to do it if it will work.
Ever since gaining the weight from my meds I just haven't felt the same and I long to be where i was two years ago.
Any advice or help would be so appreciated, I just need something that will work and if this is it then it's worth the money.
Thanks again
Stef

| I guess I'm remarking that it seems strange and inconsistent that pinto beans are allowed on veg day but peas are not. (given that some people classify both as legumes), I would have thought they were prime for substitution given their rather simliar nutritional profile.

I suggest you spend some time (it is free, after all ) reading the many posts on this forum, for example the General Discussion page. You will get an idea of the kind of foods eaten [but be aware that some of the older discussion is about foods on the 'old' version of the plan - the 'new' version has slightly different foods] so you can get an idea of what foods you will have to buy on this diet. [My guess is that if you find it difficult to pay for the plan you might find it difficult to buy the food - what do you think?]
It might be cheeky for me to mention this on the FL4I forum , but if money is an issue you can look into this free plan here: nirmk.byethost13.com/ERA%20eBook.pdf (and if you like it, the author has written some real books you can either buy or get at your local library, and there are plenty of free mp3 podcasts on drfuhrman.com/radio )

HI everyone
I've just made the choice to download the diet! It's going to drain my bank account a bit but I think after reading all the dicussions here it's worth the money.
After all I spend probably more than I need to on groceries every week because I just buy what i feel like (not always a good thing) and with my tight schedule I can appreciate being told what to eat and when instead of having to come up with things myself.
I just have a few questions before I buy it and If anyone can answer them all i'd be really greatful.
1. What happens after the three months is up? That kinda bugs me that you spend the money and it expires but do you re-enter the program again? Or have you all just continued with the menus you have already had?
2. How much do you figure the groceries for this diet costs on a weekly basis?
3. Have you all seen the new thing they have on the site. The main diet is 39$ for the package but now there is a new thing that's an extra 16$ so taking it up to almost 55$, has anyone just bought the first package without that new thing? I'm not sure i can do the extra money right now and they tell you that you can't go and buy that extra part later you have to do it now or never. I just want to loose weight can I do that on the basic plan?
4. For all those with erratic or busy shedules do you find that this diet works well or is it ot much work?
Thanks everyone I appreciate all the help I can get right now, with the weight gain I've had from my meds I've been feeling almost suicidal in the last year (not that I'd do anything) but that I just don't want to go on like this. I hate myself and the way I look and I will do ANYTHING to change it. I've read so many great testimonials here about how this diet is working for everyone and i'm excited that I just may have found teh one thing that will work for me too.
Thanks again

Hello all! I'm not a newbie to the diet itself ( I've been doing this since October 2007), but I am so frustrated and was so glad to find a forum to share my story, that I just couldn't wait to register!
As I mentioned earlier, I started this diet in October with the intention of losing about 20-30 lbs. My first round went very well and in 18 days, I'd lost 10 lbs! Wohoo!!! And then.....CAME THE HOLIDAYS!!! Yikes! Well, I tried to behave, but my motivation was lost somewhere around a week prior to Christmas ( my family stuck me with all the baking and expected me not to sample??? Yeah right!
So after feeling miserable about eating so poorly, and gaining 6 lbs back, I tried the diet again. When I started this time, I weighed 156 lbs. I am now on the 2nd round, day 5 and am down to 153. How totally frustrating!!! I'm exercising a ton (weight training and cardio mixed in for about 45-50 min, 3-4 days per week) and I have NOT cheated a bit. In fact, I am following the diet to a T, and believe me, I have no tastebuds left!!! lol Even on my cheat days, I got sick when I had a sandwich from Burger King ( chicken, no less) and decided to go back on the diet for the rest of my cheat days so I wouldn't feel so yucky.
I have no intention of quitting this time. I have a spring break trip in March, and want to be down to 140 by then....which is completely attainable.....IF my body would start cooperating. I've been exercising for several months now, so I know I'm not just replacing fat with muscle, so what gives??? I know the diet works, especially after reading so many encouraging posts. Does anyone have any suggestions???
[NOTE: I have moved this topic from Help Me I'm Stuck where it was originally posted to Fat Loss 4 Idiots --Nir]

I'm not sure from the forum exactly which diet you're following.
Have you any idea at all what your body fat % is? It's possible that, during your increased calorie spell, you might have added some muscle (with all that assiduous weight training) - not likely, but possible.
Either way, it's often difficult to stick at a diet when your only medium for feedback is the bathroom scales. Since body water weight can fluctuate so much, the results are frustrating as often as they're encouraging.
So... difficult to comment on your progress without more awareness of what it is you're doing.
A little more detail???

Ok, sure. I didn't want to overload the post with my life story initially, but here goes!
I'm on the 11 day generated menu. As far as a BMI, the only way I can tell is from computer calculations based on my height and weight....all those tell me is that I'm at a 26, so not terribly overweight, but still not too good. My target weight is 135, which I used to weigh a few years ago, so I know its totally attainable.
I was doing straight Tae Bo 5 days a week for months, so my cardio was there. I have done off and on weights til the last few weeks. My friend is a personal trainer, so I asked her the most effective way to tone up and lose the weight. She suggested the weight training/cardio 3-4 times per week. It's a grueling workout but I know it's working because I feel my muscle tone more than ever.
I am drinking 80-100oz of water per day, no sweet drinks other than a diet pepsi a day or so. I usually eat only 1 of the 2-3 foods in each meal on the menu because when I'm at work, it's too hard to try to cook! lol Today for example, I had 5 pieces of bacon for breakfast, cheese for lunch, about a cup of cahsews for meal #3 and will have 2 scrambled eggs and probably 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for dinner. I try very hard not to add any condiments and rarely use salt ( the bacon more than makes up for my salt intake!) The good news is that I have no desire to cheat anymore, even on my days off. I just stick to the diet pretty much all the time now, which is fine....it's more of a change in lifestyle than a diet at this point.
Any more info that I can provide?

hey there!
have you ever tried counting your calories? i amstill not sure of what diet you are on- is it Fat Loss For Idiots? they have generated plans and such... have you taken exact measurements of your foods? do you know how many caloires you are consuming per day? i have found that knowing this is a big help, to ensure you are not eating too much or too little. also, maybe change up your exersizing routine. maybe if you are doing the exact same tings day after day, your body has become used to it and it takes less energy to perform those tasks.
just a thought.
best of luck to you and welcome to CPH!

I'm sorry, yes, I'm doing Fat Loss 4 Idiots....guess I didn't realize there were any other diets on this forum....lol! I'm doing the 11 day generated diet, which says not to worry about counting calories, just to eat until you're satisfied. I used to be a habitual calorie counter....between 1000-1200/day, but I quit losing weight that way, so I changed things up a bit. There are times that I wonder if I am eating enough calories, but I am satisfied, so I quit eating. I figure that my body is telling me that it's had enough for that meal.
As far as the exercise goes, I was doing just the Tae Bo for several months, and noticed that it wasn't working as well as I'd like, so I started back in on the strength training. However, with the strength training, it says to do 1 set of 15-20 reps, and then do 30-60 reps of a high intensity aerobic activity ( I rotate between jumping jacks, running in place, squats, and lunges) and then do another set of resistance training. At this time, I can only do 2 sets of each resistance exercise or I'll collapse! lol My goal is 3 sets.

I'm a new member as of an hour ago. I've read everything I can find on the forums, but so far I haven't seen my question answered.
Do I have to purchase deli meat, or can I cook my own beef roast, chicken and ham? I try to avoid deli meat due to the high concentrations of sodium and nitrates.
Thank you for any help you can send my way!

It looks like this phase of the diet is the 'high fat' part. You don't want to eat more because you feel sated, which isn't unusual for this type of approach. It tends to work best in the absence of carbs, though - and I'm not sure from your posts if that's so.
Either way, if you're following the diet, you should follow it, or else you'll have wasted your money.
Since it's supposed to work with (presumably) any regular exercise, I wouldn't worry about what you're doing. It sounds fine.
Your real problem is that you're expecting linear results (X pounds lost per week) and it rarely happens that way.
Persevere.

I'm new to FL4I. I'm responding not because I have a lot of information for you, but because no one else has answered yet, and I don't want you to think no one cares. This site is a very good place to discuss this sort of thing!
Anyway, I think you will find that the diet is well worth the money you spent on it. You'll probably save a bit by not purchasing your usual grocery items, although the foods on this diet can get a little expensive. If cost is really a concern, try to select cheaper foods from the generator.
I have kind of a screwy schedule and don't always get all 4 meals in. I try to, but it can be hard without staying up too late at night to eat. (I sometimes don't get home from work until after 10 PM.) You just have to do the best you can to eat four meals spread at least 2-1/2 hours apart.
As far as I know, there is no expiration date on the generator, at least, that was how it was sold to me. I think from what others have said that there formerly was a limit, but that has since been dropped.
I probably spend between $50 - $75/week on food. I go shopping a couple of times during the 11 days. The first time is the most expensive, when I have to buy a lot of meat, cheese, produce, etc. The second visit is much less costly because I then only have to stock up on a few items that I need to complete the cycle. It can be hard keeping meat fresh, so I am careful not to buy too much of it at one time.
I think just buying the basic package is fine. I got both items that were offered at the site, but I don't think I'll use the extra $16 one. I'm not saying it's bad, I just don't think it's unique enough to justify the expense.
Make sure you exercise regularly (a lower activity level is OK) and drink all your water.
Hang in there.

Technically speaking if you want to get the best of out the diet, then yes, it has to be deli meat. But there was a consensus in the general that you could swap like meat for like. Eg pork for ham or steak for the roast beef slices. You'd need to keep an eye that the calories are roughly the same so you don't accidently sabotage the plan.
I think (guess) that the reason there is a lot of deli meat in the plan is that it easy to buy and easy to eat "plain" and therefore makes the plan easy to follow.
Hope that helps.

Thanks, StillaKiwi...I was beginning to think that I'd asked a really stupid question. Many people had read my posting, but you're the first to give me an answer.
I've already cooked a beef roast and sliced it up. I must be doing something right (calorie-wise) because I'm down 2 1/2 pounds in two days, and this is after five months on WeightWatchers with only a five pound loss.
Again, thanks.

I took a careful look at exactly what foods I was choosing on this diet and I about fell over when I saw the calorie and fat content! That might have something to do with it. I remember that when I did this before and didn't have bacon and sausage on the menu, I lost more weight.....also, I didn't eat as many nuts.
I'm hoping for some kind of results from this, whether it be weight loss, size loss, whatever. I was thinking that maybe I'm not working out enough? When I was doing the Tae Bo, I worked out every day, but now that I'm doing weight training, I'm doing every other day (which is what I was told to do). It's all a little confusing!

Hello. I am beginning the program today. I have 15-20 pounds to lose, so I'm hoping that it will only take about 4 rounds (8 weeks) to get there. Anyway, I've been kind of "experimenting" with the diet for the past few weeks, but today will be my first official real day on. I want to see if anyone wants to join me in a support forum.

Stefanie -
There is no limit to the use of the meal generator - so as long as it's there, you can use it forever once you've paid the initial $$. Just to be on the safe side, I have printed up 5 or 6 menus just in case the site goes down or something. You can make as many menus as you want with your different selections as often as you like, so don't worry about that. (I didn't invest in the 2nd option either, you don't need it to start).
My initial trip to the grocery store was probably $90.00, and I would say $50/week covers what I need. I am a sale-seeking, coupon-using woman, so I stock up on bacon/cheese/meat deals and freeze what I need to. I do have to get to the store more often for the fruits and fresh veggies, though.
I drink plenty of water and have actually lessened my workout to just walking 3-4 times a week (with a little weight machine action here and there, too.) I was very stuck at a plateau for a while until I started this diet....I lost 7.5 pounds on the 1st cycle and am currently on the second cycle. I am waiting to weigh myself until day 11, but my jeans are getting more and more loose and I feel great!
Best of luck!

This is my first cycle and I lost 6.5! Friday was day 9 for me and my boss took us all out for lunch so I did cheat!! Then Saturday I felt horrible and didn't eat at all and on Sunday I was so weak from not eating on Saturday that I did not eat on the plan. (toast, soup ect) So today I am feeling much better and started over with day #5 so I may cheat a bit at "Super Bowl" party! Then will start over on a Monday again so I my next real cheat days will be on a weekend!
The cravings do go away! And I do a little of swapping foods. (turkey for chicken) ect. but if I can do 5 or 6 lbs per cycle I will be more then happy. You still have to enjoy your life and not let the diet control your joy!! Stick with it and it will work!!!
Off to have my snack! Roast beef and milk!! Yum! Yum!!

Hey everyone! I'm new here. I'm on day 7 of my first cycle. You guys have been a tremendous help! This forum is a big reason I decided to sign up.
I'm only down 1/2 a pound. I was good at first but I have a horrible sweet tooth. I've been adding splenda to my coffee and pooring it over crushed ice for a sort of desert. I also ate some of my frozen yogurt when I shouldn't have. *only 2 nights) Oops! I'm wondering if you guys think the splenda is affecting the diet. I only have about 12 pounds to loose so I know it will probably come off slow but I am getting impatient. Has anyone had trouble on the first cycle but been successful on the 2nd? I guess I'll try leaving out the splenda but that's just no fun. Tomorrow is veggie day so I boiled some carrots then blended them with cinamon and splenda. That's going to be breakfast. Veggies for breakfast was stressing me out. Someone suggested the squash fixed similarly so I thought carrots would probably be just as close.
Any suggestions would be great! I'm hoping maybe week 2 is when the weight comes off????

Splenda taste good but it gives me kravings for wierd foods like peanut butter and ice cream I find Agave nector to be a refreshing alternative it has a glycemic index of 11 as opposed to proccessed sugar which has a glycemic index of somwhere around 90 to 100. it is natural and has a honey like taste. I have the same kind of sweet tooth and I can't even look at donuts otherwise I will go into a feeding frenzy.LOL

Not sure I can be of much help, although I'm do my best! I had my 4th baby 7 months ago. I was determined to lose my weight. I had gained about 10 pounds before I got pregnant. And gained another 50 while pregnant. I have lost all of my weight and then another 12! I was determined and did what it took. I have never been on a "diet", I like to have my candy/wine/bread/whatever. I've learned to count calories and save some for my wine or whatever I want late at night. I consume anywhere from 1400-1800 a day. And still lose weight. I exercise as much as I can and I change it up like other have said. Today I did the treadmill for 25 minutes, walked the whole time. I also got up to an incline at 15, that's as high as it goes. That really is a great workout. Each minute I increase the incline, as well as the speed. At the end I'm doing 15 incline and 4.0 speed. Then I did the elliptical (sp?) for 10 minutes. I wanted to burn 100 calories on that. I think the treadmill I burned 250 or so. After that I wanted to work on my arms. So I did all the machines for those, 2 reps each. I'm noticing wonderful results and I'm proud of myself. I have worked VERY Hard! I also do tae-bo at home when I can't get to the gym. Also take a cardio blast class and another aerobics class. I totally agree, you need to switch it around every couple of weeks. I'd also like to tell you what I've eaten today... Had my coffee with real cream/sugar and a small bowl of cereal. Then for lunch I just ate chili w/rice and a little cheese. I feel very very full. That should tide me over until 2ish when I pick up my son. I'll bring reduced fat wheat thins with me. I love them and I don't eat too many. I find with other crackers I could keep eating them. Wheat thins are whole grain and really fill you up. I think in 16 crackers it's 130 calories, not bad at all. I'll be drinking water and hot tea the rest of the day. I'll make something for dinner, could be anything. I don't deny myself anything. Again, I just have to add it into my calorie counting for the day. Then I'll have some wine after the kids go to bed. Some nights I'll even have a bag of popcorn. Again, not too many calories and fills me up. I think sometimes we need something to do when we're watching tv. So that's what helps me and that's a very typical day. I'm pretty busy with the children, so I get exercise that way too. Good luck!!! You CAN do this! Keep motivated. I also took my measurements in the very beginning. I'm glad that I did, cause the scale doesn't always move... I wish you the best! I believe in you. If I can do this, anyone can with hard work.
