Hi All,

I appreciate everyone's comments and I definitely understand why you may all think I am nuts to do this - but I have my reasons why this is important to me.

I thought I would update you on where I am with my quest.  On 11/26 I cut calories to 500 per day to see if I could "jolt" my body into losing.  Up to that point I had been consuming between 1,100 calories and 900 per day and I have had no weight loss.  This has been the issue since June.

I found it hard to stick to just 500 calories.  I was very hungry the 1st day but got through eating only 550, but the next day I couldn't help but go over a bit and eat about 650. So this has fluctuated between 500 and 700 for the last 5 days.  I have been eating primarily vegetables - cooked and raw, high fiber crackers, an ounce or two of meat, no dairy but grapefruit for breakfast and a kiwi for a snack in the afternoon.  I have done that for 5 days along with increasing my daily walking from 2 miles to 3.

Guess what?  I have lost 2 ounces.  Yep, you heard me - 2 OUNCES.  Great reward for all of this wouldn't you say?

I feel fine; other than having a little bit of fatigue in the afternoons but I work at home so I am able to rest or take a nap if I want to.

I guess I'll continue this fiasco until I've satisfied myself or until I lose weight.  I did phone the doctor but the dietician cannot get me in for about a month.  Figures.

Anway, that's the update on my "NOT ABLE TO LOSE WEIGHT" marathon.

Can any of you imagine what you would feel like if you had been dieting for six months, depriving youself of all the things others eat, including watching your spouse munch away on the peanuts and donuts and other goodies, walking your buns off in a tiny basement doing a 90 foot revolution 120 times just to get a mile in - and then doing that twice for two- just to lose 2 OUNCES in six months?

Unbelievable and very depressing - but hey the doctors tell me I'm perfectly healthy and there's not a darned thing wrong with me except that I must be over eating.  So, I guess at 500 calories, I'm still over eating.

Well, I guess we'll see where the next 5 days takes us.

Hello All,

I'm new to this site and I think it's great !!!  I have lost 60 lb since mid June on the fatloss4idiots plan.  I have a love/hate relationship with this plan.   I hate the same foods over again but I treasure my 3 days off.

I don't ever substitute or change anything during my 11 days - I go by the book with it (the worst and only thing I've ever done is replace walnuts with peanuts one night and that's it).

Here's My Issue:  I have a question about the 3 days off.   I don't know if it's just me and my system or what but - I know people that have gone on this plan for a few months, my friends etc... and on their 3 days off they gain maybe an average of 2 or 3 lb which I think is normal for most people  but for some reason after my 3 days off I'll be 10 - 14 lb heavier (obviously I know it's not pounds) then within 2 days I go down another 7 lb then another 2 or 3 lb the next day then the 4th or 5th day into my next 11 days I'll show only 3 or 4 gained.

Does this happen to anyone?   I know I'm eating like my other friends who gain 2 or 3 pounds but for some reason it's different for me.

Anyone experience this???

Thanks,

Dira

Go for it - if you follow it to the T and don't make any substitutions I know it will work for you.

OK - I hate veggies too . . . try the mixed frozen peas and carrots with a little "I can't believe it's not butter spray? or a very very small amount of olive oil and some parmesan cheese with seasoning salt and pepper and it helps you get through those veggies days.

Also a mixed salad with lettuce  with the Kraft  "Light Asian Toasted Sesame" dressing is pretty good.

GOOD LUCK !

Well, I don't know if you've started yet but yes, they spell it all out for you, they are specific (not just 1 protein 1 starch etc...)

There are 2 days that are 1 all veggies and another that's all fruits with 1 sandwich - try it - you'll do well if you follow !

Just make sure you don't eat under 2.5 hours apart.   3.5 - 4 hrs apart is probably best.

:apple:I do like vegetables but do many different things in preparing them to make them interesting. PM me if you would like ideas on how to prepare specific vegetables you think you could eat. I only get about 1/2 hour on the internet a day so please be patient for a reply. CJ

I am nearing the end of my first cycle on the diet and I actually like it...only lost 3 lbs but that is better than none.  My question is... can you mix the meals?  In other words can I take an item from Meal # 1 and put it with something from Meal # 4?  I understand that rule of not mixing food from one to the next but what about with the same day?  I have tried to find an answer and haven't been able to so far.

Thanks:wink:

Hi,
I know some of the combinations are quite strange and you might be tempted to mix things up a bit but I personally wouldn't do it. The diet is devised that way although I don't get it sometimes either. I have read that you can switch out a fruit for a fruit or a protein for a protein if you want something different or only have a certain item in your fridge. A three pound loss for the first cycle is great, I think I only lost 4. And I only have lost a total of 8 in about 5 cycles. But I look at it as 8 pounds that were NOT gained. Sure, we all want the 9 pound loss in the first cycle, but that isn't going to happen for everyone. You're doing great, stick with the plan as devised and you will see it happen.

On the fat loss for idiots plan there is a vegetarian option.  Using that diet generator you do not get meat for fish but there are some dairy products for those who eat them.  You can certainly avoid choosing them when designing your plan if you dont eat dairy.  There are only a few dairy choices and two egg choices so with 36 items to choose from it would not be hard to avoid eggs and dairy.

Hope this helps,

Karl

I bet you would enjoy them, you just need to keep an open mind about things.  When you think of veggies do you think of a plain salad with iceberg lettuce and Italian dressing?  Or do you think of sweet potato pancakes made with Indian spices and cooling mint sauce?  Do you think of like plain pease and carrots or do you think of delicious spinache and goat cheese pie?  You can be make veggies enjoyable just be creative!

Hello,

I have a question.  I am debating this diet.  I think it would work for me, having the meals and everything lined up exactly and seems like it works out to be very well.  However, I am starting crew practices on Monday.  While this make it painful or unbelievable for me?  Additionally, how is the diet? Good, bad, etc? Thanks for all the information.  Any tips- greatly apprecitaed.

The reason why I want to go on a diet and try to lose the weight faster is that I have the lifestyle changes down I believe.  However, I would like to try to lose weight a little faster than four pounds per month if possible.  Thank you so much.

I'm not that familiar with this diet, but I know that you don't eat in a consistent manner. In fact, that's the whole point.

If you need consistent strength for your crew, it might not be a good idea.

Either way, please be sure to read all of the tutorial (link above) first!

Hi,

Does anyone know if peas are considered vegetables on this diet.

Technically, I believe a botanist would classify a pea as a fruit or a legume, not a vegetable.

Does anyone know if I can eat peas for a green vegetable on the FL4I diet?

Thanks!

Blackcal

Hi

I'm new to this forum and also new to FL4 idiots. Basically i've got 9 pounds to lose (which started off as nothing but has escalated up in the last year) and i thought this diet looked good (esp cos my prob is def one of overeating)

I'm on day 11 of teh programme (1st cycle) but don't appaer to hvae lost any weight. I think the following may have hindered me and was open to any suggestions:

- although i've tried to spread my meals out what typically happens is that i eat at 6.30 am, 12.00, 7.30 and 10.00 cos i can't seem to balance out my meals. My main diff is taht i go to the gym 1st thing and am prob not eating enough before the session but obviosly i don't want to go on a full up. if i eat after the sesiion i find i'm so hungry tend to overeat! any ideas?

- i have tried to follow meals however here it says tuna salad palt for example i tend to use other veggies such as carrots, mushrooms. Do u think this is slowing down weight loss?

ant help wld b grt as ive got chaet days coming up and i feel as though i don't deserve them as ive lost nothing!

Hi,

I am no expert by any means( I leave that to the long term people & Nir, the moderator)but I observe the following from my own experience of having lost 22lb and kept it off, (But a gain over Christmas)

If you have read all the info that goes along with the FL4I program, it suggests only moderate excercise whist following the 11 day programs- I walk 30 mins each day and do 20 mins stepper 3 times a week-THATS ALL.

There is no such thing as overeating! you need to eat till you are satisfied. So after the gym  if you ate a larger portion of food compared to the rest of the day, that still should work, and thats ok.

Your spread of meals seems odd in that you eat 2 meals after 7.00pm. Perhaps look at

6.30, 12.00,4.00 and 7.30-8.00.( or a closer spead after 12.00 than what you already do).

I follow the food list to the letter- adding anything other than the Salsa you are allowed is not keeping to the program--- WHilst you are trying to loose the weight.

You dont mention any water consumption. 2 Lires a day MIN is what you need.

Lastly- 9lb is not an awful lot to loose, so maybe just expect 1-2lb lb the 11 days rather than the 9lb they advertise.

Hope SOME of this helps, I know its not technical, but I can only do it the simple way!!-lol

thanks for that. I do exercise more than recommended but that's what i've alway's done and I'm not doing any more than i did previously. Water's not a prob def drink enough, but you're right my food disribution is a big issue as i often find it difficult to make proper time to eat during the day as my job requires me to travel place to place (hard eating in the car) am going to try much harder 2nd cycle

do u still eat 4 meals on cheat day? how long have u been on programme for?

Hello, I started FL4I on January 4, 2008.  Start weight is 240 and want to go to 155.  That is why my screen name is finally155.  Say it into existence.  I am glad to read your post and this gives me hope.  Today is day 6 and I have followed the plan to the letter.  I am now at 3 pounds.  I will do my goal in 10 pound increments.  My first goal is to lose 60 pounds by July 1, 2008.  I hope to be at an average 5 pounds per cycle, but who knows.  We will see what happens.  Your post gives me hope.  Take care, finally155.

Hiya

Yes I still try as much as I can to eat 4 meals on cheat days.

I also still eat from my 8inch/20.5cm diameter size plate, and avoid pasta/rice and bread as I know these are the really bad things for me.

I do however allow myself a small amount of potato, cous cous and corn, but usually live on meat/fish accompanied by veg/salad, which is  a rare combination on my food plan and I miss this a lot.

having said all that, I have been on the plan since February last year, and three times in that time have had a massive blow out on Pizza or a massive pasta dish, or even a 3 course meal--- but i felt so sick for days aferwards, I dont do that any more, and its really amazing( even in the UK) how accomodationg a restaurant/ cafe can be when requesting a slightly different version of their menu.

Hope you have the success I did.

Glad the info was helpfull.

After you purchase this diet, how long can you use the menu generator.  I thought I read someone saying their "time" was nearly up and they were going to print a bunch of menus before it ran out.

I would love to see what a new menu looks like!

There has to be 2 different menus, I keep reading about foods that have never been a choice on my generator!!! I have made hundreds, and I have never had one with cheese... I saw someone say they had a cheese and chicken meal. Plus there seems to be frozen yogurt on the new menu too!

Hi Lizard-I believe you are right about there being 2 different ones out there.  Referred to as old & new.  Maybe it's "new & improved".  I notiecd you have one thing listed for each meal.  The new has 2-3 items for each meal and we can choose 1 or all, but to be sure not to overeat.  You mentioned hamberger, pasta, and egg plate - these are things that are not on the new list.  I read that some of the older postings say they can drink wine.  How great would that be - a wine and cheese tasting (new can have cheese) party!  One more thing is that I think we have more items to choose from.  I'm not sure this helps you, but these are observations I've made while reading a billion posts.

To tell you the truth I'm finding this pretty easy to use - even the dreaded fruit day was not exceptionally bad.  Maybe this is all simply mind over matter and getting the pounds off is what matters, right?  Today is only my 4th day and feeling pretty good about this new adventure.  I am a total carb addict so the first day was rough - after that, I'm breezing along with a hopeful heart.  Facing my first weekend is a little frightening, but I'm going to try real hard to stay on track.

I'm wishing you well on whatever you are doing...have a great weekend.

I found on the WL4I site, that it is the same as FL4I. They are one and the same. I wish I could log onto the new menu. There's not two different places to log in. I couldnt find one if there is. Ive been logging into the same one for over a year. (Even though I havent been doing the diet for over a year!) In our rules it allows a glass of wine. But I dont drink. Maybe I should post the "rules" for the older menu. They are totally different than the new one.

I want cheese!!!  :chewing:

Lizard-hi there! I had the old version and awhile back decided to try the new- so for a time had access to both. However just recently when I tried to log in to the old version it gave me a message that it was changing and I had to enter a new user name and password and it took me to the newer version and now I have no access to the old menus -so I'm wondering why that didn't happen to you? I first joined the old one Mar. '05. Maybe your's will change over too-hate for you to spend extra $$ if you don't have to. LC

Is the log in for the new menu at a different place? Or is it the same? I read somewhere that all you do is add a 1 to your log in name and "poof", you have the new menu.

Sorry, my mistake-I can also log in at dietaccess.com -I just can't access the old menu anymore. I'm on the fence about which I like better. I'm just finishing up day 11 today with one of the old menu's I printed and think I've lost about 4lbs. Will check again tomorrow. Next go around I've generated a new version menu so we'll see. New version has some strange combo's, however you can choose to eat all or one of the options ie.

Day #1

Meal #1: Walnuts, Hard Boiled Egg, Prunes

Meal #2: Delicious Shrimp, Sausage Links, Banana Milk Shake

ect.

Hi I am a new member also!  I am glad I found this forum for some guide lines for this diet.  I am on day five and doing well.  Down 3 lbs.

I would like some help on knowing if I can add a salad to any meal.  Example chicken or Roast beef meal.  adding a salad or veggie would help.

Also I have seen on a sample meal plan...pasta and hamburger??  Where are those choices??

Doing well and so far so good!!!

Thanks to everyone who helped me out. I went ahead and bought the new menu plan. So now I have both. Im on the fence as to which one Ilike more. The new menu ACTUALLY has less choices!!! It looks like more because of the way they word it!

On the old menu they say mixed nuts, but new menu lists them individually. I dont like that. I like the variety. Same with the fish, old menu just says fish fillet... but new menu list them individually.

Old menu has pasta, hot dogs, hamburgers, and sandwiches.

old menu has ham and pineapple... sub ham for bacon, sausage, pork chops, etc...

old menu has omelettes... which is the same as scrambled eggs with veggies...

The only thing it doesnt have that the new menu does is the shrimp, milk and frozen yougurt.

New menu is just a glorified old menu. However I do like the pasta and hamburger options!!!

That sample menu you saw is the old menu. ( like it better than the new one)

Food swapping. I swap all the time. However it has to be done right if you still want to see results. I always eat mixed nuts, not individual nuts. (It doesnt matter, nuts are nuts!) Pork for pork, Foul for Foul, sometimes ill make a smoothis when it gives me a fruit, (fruit for fruit).

I personally wouldnt sub cashews for milk. I havent done a new menu with the milk option yet. I will next week though. I am thinking that I may try a fat free yougurt in the milk place. I dont know. I like to experiment... but I dont do anything thats too different from the menu it gives me. Ive been doing this diet for almost 3 years on and off... I can see the pattern in the generated menus. I hope this helps.

Im going to answer the oatmeal question. in the meal prep directions on the old menu it says this...

Flavored Oatmeal
Either pre-flavored or plain oatmeal is allowed (for example, you may purchase "maple and brown sugar" flavored oatmeal if you wish). You may use either non fat milk or water to prepare oatmeal, but if milk is used then please use the minimum amount required. No extra toppings are allowed.

So milk is allowed.

I hope the admins dont mind... I am going to post a new menu for those who want to see the difference!!!

-------------------------------------

I did feel that it was inappropriate to post so much of the menu without permission from FL4I, so I'm sorry but I did delete it.

Thank you,

Hello,

I haven't been able to find this topic on the forum yet.  My daughter is a little over 4 months old and is still getting around 70% of her nutrition from breast milk (30 % formula).  Of the 45 lbs. I gained during pregnancy I'm still holding onto 30.  I'm planning on starting this program this week but just eating a little more of everything.  I've heard that rapid fatloss can release toxins into breastmilk so I'm shooting for a slow loss.  I also intend to keep taking my postpartum multi-vitamin and plan to start taking a calcium supplement.  I've picked milk as one of my choices but I don't think the small amount allowed would be enough on its own.  Does anyone else have experience breastfeeding while on the FL4I program?

I'm not following the FL4I diet specifically, but I am watching calories & exercising (aka dieting) while breastfeeding for the last 5 months.  My son is 7 months old.

I'd thought I'd chime in because you seem to be concerned about drinking enough milk for you to keep up your own milk supply.  I can't have dairy in general and have breastfed successfully despite not having milk, cheese, yogurt, etc.  The key is to make sure you're eating enough calories in general, not necessarily milk specifically.  So be careful on the FL4I diet... you may want to count calories just to make sure you are getting enough.

I've used the calculators on this site to estimate the amount of calories my own body needs... then you burn 400-600 more calories per day via milk production.  I try to have a total deficit (regular calories burned + BF calories) of no more than 600 calories per day.  It's SLOW weight loss, but I don't want to be worried about keeping up with my LO's needs!
