Hi everyone, I did this diet last year and actually enjoyed it but I found the 'fruit and veg only' days quite hard.:(

Does anyone have any nice recipes/tips on preparing the veg to make it a bit more appetising? Thanks in advance. :)

satay onions and garlic til brown, throw in veggies (peppers, carrots, aubergines, mushrooms), add a tad bit of butter and some soy sauce and stir fry until veggies are as soft as u want them. Remember to add salt to taste and if possible spread some celery or spring onions on top

Also roast your veggies with butter or olive oil and and you can pour a thick tomato gravy on them or sprinkle a bit of curry
roast potatoes in the oven with olive oil, vinegar and oregano.

Hi, I also found the fruit/veggie day unbearable until I discovered vegetable soup, I found this to be satisfying and didn't effect my weight loss.

I was curious if anyone ever ate dates on their fruit days.  I looked at the nutrition info for this and there are plenty of carbs and almost no protein, which goes along well with the other fruits.  Lots of fiber too.  They help fill me up for my meals.  Just curious if anyone eats these.

Hi, I'm a new member. I decided to try WL4I after reading the many posts on this forum from people who had lost either lots of weight or "only" 2 lbs (which I regard as a success, not a failure) during a cycle.

I'm on Day 2 (fruit for three meals, meat sandwich for one), and had fruit as my first meal. I had strawberries, grapes, and an apple. I stopped eating before I felt stuffed, but I didn't feel hungry anymore.  I am so hungry; it's been about 2 hours.  Everyone seems to say they're not hungry on this diet.  Did I do something wrong?

I'm not really so worried that I'll go off the diet just yet.  I have too much food in the fridge that I purchased for the diet.  But it's uncomfortable, and I'm worried that I am going to be starving for 11 days.  Any tips?

First of all, WELCOME!

I don't know about others, but I find I am definitely more hungry on my all fruit/veggie days.  The things that really help to keep you feeling full for extended periods of time are protein and fat, both of which are very hard to come by in fruits/veggies.  Maybe you could try adding some avocado, as I know that has a lot of good fat and might help to keep you feeling fuller.  Hopefully, others will have some helpful suggestions as well, as I have been in this same boat, and it makes those fruit/veggie days quite challenging!

As for losing "only" 2 pounds, I know I have made that comment, and here is the reason:  I could easily lose 2 pounds in 11 days on ANY plan, so I don't feel I should have to follow a plan as strict as this one to get those results.  I follow this plan to achieve slightly quicker (not always 10 pounds a week, but at least about 4-5 pounds per cycle) weight loss, so losing only 2 pounds in a cycle is discouraging to me, as I could get those same results by eating anything I want and just watching my calories (and bad fats, of course).

Avocadoes, that's a good idea!

I have been struggling to lose 10 lb for months, and instead I have slowly gained 5 lb.  I haven't been on any specific plan though; just trying to eat healthily. But apparently, what I've been doing hasn't been working. So any weight loss however small would be so welcome.

This plan sounded so easy; I work and have 23-month old twins, and just don't have the time to prepare elaborate meals.  I resisted weighing myself this morning, but tomorrow I may check in.

My scale has a body fat percentage sensor too, so we'll see whether any weight lost is fat or water/muscle!

Unfortunately I don't have an answer to your question but wanted to ask about adding blueberries, blackberries, raspberries to the fruit list....has anyone done this.  Does anyone know why this would be a problem?

I say try the diet as written and watch what weight you lose.  Then experiment as you wish.  If you stop losing weight, revert back on your changes.

 Hi, I'm new to the forum (and diet) and just got through my first fruit day!  I read alot of posts asking for help on this particular day so here is the things that helped me through:

For Meal #1

I blended some blueberries and strawberries together with some ice chips to make a slushie for breakfast.

For Meal #2

I had a bowl of mixed fruit (pears, apples, plums, blueberries, and strawberries) that I cut up into bite sized pieces.

For Meal #3

I ate the sandwich.

For Meal #4

I had a bowl of frozen grapes and blueberries.  Eating them frozen felt like I was eating dessert!:yum:

I thought you have to eat the sandwhich for meal #1 and then the rest of the day fruit.

From the many FL4I contributions I've read, my understanding is that meals can be eaten in any order. Therefore sandwich can come in at any point.

Is it just me, or am I missing something?  They don't have cantaloupe listed as a fruit option on this plan.  Any idea as to why?  That's my all-time favorite fruit & I could eat it all day.

I would go for it.  I think melons are more mass for the calorie than other fruits.  As long as it is comprable, go for it.

Great...that's good to know as well!  I know that cantaloupe is low in calories, so...I think I may try it & just see what happens.

Hello,

I have a fruit day tomorrow and was lucky enough to find a package of fresh passion fruit and a tray of raspberries.

Raspberries are very low GI - about 7g of carbs per 100 and passion fruit has lots of fibre and has about 13 g per 100g of carbs.

Any ideas?

Thanks all!

Bananas are very high GI at almost 20g per 100 being carbs.  I am not sure about blueberries, though.

Looks like I made a mistake last nite. I had a fruit drink out of a banana, strawberries and blueberries and out of 100% fruit juice. This was my fruit day. Oh well, I am still down 18 lbs and I am in my 3rd cycle.  The fuit day is always my toughest day.   If you find anything out about blueberries let me know.  Thank You.

Hunter.....You know, even though they list the specific fruits:apple:...they say FRESH ...and depending on where in the world you live and the season...well...I think anything that's fresh and a good variety (not all bananas for example) will work...Fresh and varied in color is best for nutrition value.  So have fun...as seasons change so will your fruit...who wants to eat oranges in summer when peaches, plums and melons are fresh and juicy!! but in winter, pineapple, oranges, apples and pears are all fairly fresh and nice!!  Don't take your fruit as juice on fruit day as you will miss the fiber and valuable minerals etc of fresh and consume way too many calories and raise your blood sugar pretty high which could make you hungrier...but a little juice in or on other fruit is probably ok.
That said...I believe they chose the specific fruits they listed because of the "low glycemic index" of these fruits....this could affect blood sugar and therefore weight loss...you can google glycemic index of fruits.
Most of us who have been on the diet awhile have taken advantage of what is fresh and available that week on occasion.  I hope this helps.

F2x4...Try slowing down and chewing each bite thoroughly so that you are not swallowing any chunks of fruit...digestion starts in the mouth with the enzymes in your saliva.  Try eating smaller portions and just eat an extra meal if you have to.  Go to a good health food store and buy a broadspectrum digestive enzyme that has the enzymes to digest sugars and fruits in it...the staff there should be able to help you.   Are you eating until just satisfied?  Fruit is digested very quickly and if you eat too much at a meal you will get "dumping syndrome"  where the gut goes into overdrive...any overeating at a meal can cause this but since fruit moves through the digestive process faster the results are more apparent. I hope this helps.

Hi,
I'm also new and today is my 2nd day also.  I had 1/2 a grapefruit and a bowl of chopped apple and an orange.  I had a cup of coffee too and felt full.  I've also drank 3 glasses of water but am now hearing my stomach...lol!

I was going to try to save my sandwhich for dinner tonight but may have to rethink that and have it at noon...if I can wait until noon.

Any advice from those who have done this before would be great.
Kim

PS...had a pear and cup of coffee snack...also, why do I keep getting the junk text/html code below???

Kim, about the wierd codes (which I edited out):

1) what browser and version are you using?

2) are you editing the post in another program and then pasting into your browser, or just editing within the browser?

3) can you try posting without special colours or formatting to see if the junk still appears?

I am using Firefox.  I simply visit the site and am typing in the Post Reply box.  Even when I go to preview the junk code is showing.  It's very odd because I am on a bunch of Yahoo groups and another board and this doesn't happen.  I have not copied and pasted either.

Tuesday was my 1st fruit day and it was hard - honestly.

I saved my sandwich for dinner and it was a mile-high sandwich!

I found frozen grapes to be a saviour as it took longer to eat and they were really satisfying.

Good luck!

Leigh,

I've made it to 3:30...I have decided that I hate fruit day though!  Give me a vegetable day anyday.  At this point I WILL make it for that sandwich at 6PM...lol.

I only have 10 lbs that I want to loose.  I have been running for the last 3 months (from 3-5 miles anywhere from 3-5 days/week) and I stay at the same weight.  It's very frustrating.  On my frame 10 lbs will make a difference (all in butt, hips, thighs).  It's all me, my husband knew me 10-11 lbs lighter and thought I could add a few...lol.

I wish you luck and do stay in touch, I'm rootin' for you!

Does anyone know if I can add bananas to fruit day? Fruit day is miserable unto itself, but if I get to add bananas, that would make it a little more bearable.
