As far I know you can only have bananas with the fruit salad dessert. You cannot have them on fruit day if you follow the menu. That is probably because thier carb and sugar content is higher than alot of other fruits.

That username is just too cute, and it cracks me up!!

Willbethin is correct.

Here is the Fruit Salad Desert menu:

Fruit Salad Dessert
You can prepare this Fruit Salad Dessert by mixing up the following ingredients: Cool Whip Topping, Kiwi Fruit, Watermelon ,Cantaloupe, Pineapples, Apples, Pears, Strawberries, Grapes, Peaches, Bananas, Plums

Good luck.

P.S. - Also check out the "FL4I - General Discussion" board (go to the last page for the most recent topics).  You'll find a lot of help and inspiration. Just jump on in and introduce yourself.  You'll receive a hearty welcome.

Hi! Is there anyone around that has been doing this diet for a long period of time? I would love some advise of how to cope with fruit day.

I started WL4I yesterday (as is the first day of my 27th year, and I have promised myself a healthier latter half of my twenties) and today is "fruit and sarnie" day 4 me. I am having a hard and acidic time, and although I'm highly motivated,  I have to cook this lunch and dinner for my lean husband, so I'm dreading the outcome. :monkey:

I hope this diet will finally be the one for me, as I have to loose around 40kg. :apple:

Hi, DeniceinSpain:

First of all, "Happy Birthday".

Most of the members under "FL4I - General Discussion" have been doing the diet for a while now, so we've all experienced the joys of "Fruit Day".

Yes, it can be quite acidic.  Sunshine put a post under the "General Discussion" thread that suggests using a little lemon juice in your water to help combat the acid.

Although the FL4I diet does not say that you can do this, I actually at half my sandwhich mid-day then the other half at the end of the day.  That was the only way I could tolerate fruit day.  I know this goes against the guidelines, but that was the only way I could handle it.

I also found that GOING TO BED EARLY on fruit day helped because I no longer thought about food!  LOL

When I was a kid, my mom would make this awesome indian "fruit chat". She would mix up some cut up apples, bananas, pears and such with some indian "chat masala" and it tasted REALLY good. I noticed today that adding spices to a food and cooking it makes it a lot more filling than eating it raw. I had a handfull of cooked coleslaw mix (the cabbage and carrot salad blend in the bag) with some indian spices cooked with LOTS of pam and it tasted like I had added a cup of oil to it!

My point it, spices make stuff more filling.

That being said, if you're not a "purist," add some more exotic spices that you may have lying around. Cilantro is a good option or mint. Apples microwaved with splenda and cinammon is especially yummy.

If you are a purist, add lots of salsa and hot sauce to everything you it. It'll fill you up (and bloat you up a little) like nothing else.

Hi, CD1974:

First, are you using DG, BC or following the 10-Rule diet?  Each one is different.  If you check out "FL4I - Diet Guidelines" that shows the difference between each diet.

Fruit Day with a Sandwhich is only for the DG diet.

With DG, Fruit Day typically occurs on the 2nd day of dieting.  You eat fruit all day, and you can only have one sandwhich.  This is a real challenge, so get prepared, and many of us struggle through it.

Hi Anyar
I'm doing the diet generator, and the second day talks only about fruit, I don't see anything about a sandwich.
Where do I see that, and what type of sandwich??

cd1974 did you select the sandwich on theleft side list of foods?  If you don't select the sandwich, you won't get it on fruit day.

No I didn't!!!
My mistake.... now I feel bad for not doing that....
I just started my first day so I don't want to switch now.
I just read in the forum that it's better not to choose too many things at once, so I tried to limit my options, but I actually love sandwiches....

I just tried generating another diet with the exact same things I chose before but I just added the sandwich.
What I see is that the sandwich is only on the fruit day.
Do you think it's ok for me to have the sandwich and continue with the rest of my original diet or not?

Another question
Can I drink any time of the day instant coffee ( like nescafe) with splenda? (no milk or anything else.

Thanks

I would assume you can add the sandwich in and keep your original menu.    Personally I doubt it affects the rest of your menu.  I think they just threw that in because nobody would make it through fruit day without a little extra substance.

As far as the nescafe, you are allowed beverages under 10 calories and artificial sweeteners. I'm assuming its just coffee so it has zero calories so I think it would be okay.

No one really knows.  A lot of people here think its best to stick with the list of fruits they gave us.  They only listed specific fruits for a reason although no one knows what the reason is.  Personally I would kill for a banana right now.  But I'm going to wait until tomorrow and have it in my fruit salad.

I agree with Quincy, just add the sandwich as one of your meals today.

And about the cantelope, and other melons: I also had that question when I first started the diet. I was told that it is best to stick to the rules as stated. Again, we don't know why they are chosen that way, but I have just enjoyed the melons when I get fruit salad dessert!

About the fruit, I too believe it best to stick with the menu. It is my understanding that some fruits have a higher glycemic index and break down quickly during digestion. Foods that have a lower GI break down slower so you stay feeling full longer. I dont know the nutritional value of cantalope but the FL4I might be using these selected fruits for that reason.

Help...

I am new.  I just purchased FL4I on Sunday.  Went shopping and started on Monday.  Monday wasnt too bad.  But Fruit Day---was HORRIBLE.

I have some questions and concerns about this diet...  I would like some honest opinions from some of you who have been doing it for a while now.

My concerns:

I have lost over 30 lbs since Jan 12th.  I did it in a Healthy manner, balancing all 3 of the following:  Carbs, Fats, and Proteins.  I also exercised daily, portion controlled, counted calories (on sparkpeople.com)  I was very successful.  I was losing weight while in a Contest for Kmart called NDYW (New Day Your Way).

While in the contest I found out about calorie shifting.  I was afraid to try it until after the contest was over, but because of all I learned I wanted to give it a try.  I still have alot of weight to lose.  My goal weight range is:  127-140.  I have yet to decided on an exact final weight... My Original Start Weight was 247.4 on my scales (248.4 on Kmarts). Last weigh in at Kmart I was 214.8 as of Monday on my scales I was back up to 217.8  (I took a week off--from making myself a priority, and gained back 3 lbs ;(  so that brings me to date.

I started FL4I on Monday at 217.8 (my scales) and today I was 214.8 (yes, thats after modifying day 2...

Yesterday, was Horrible---Fruit Day SPIKED My insulin & Sugar levels,... I was Famished, Grouchy to say the least, and Dizzy most of the day.  I also wasnt allowed the sandwich on the first meal plan given, but knew about it because of what I had already read, so I regenerated which created a plan that included the sandwich--which I had intended to eat.

However, after getting dizzy several times... I had to modify the day... I just couldnt get through it.

My main concern is that this diet is 9 days out of the 11 a HIGH PROTEIN day Diet.  The other 2 days (day 2 and day 8) are HIGH CARB days.

I plugged in my portions for the meals allowed, and realized that this diet does not shift calories like its name says.... INSTEAD:  It Shifts CARBS AND PROTEINS....

Does this concern any of you...???

I realize this diet does not advocate calorie counting, and I can see why... because on an average day for me, ... it has me eating between 500-1,000 calories.  (that is of course not stuffing myself) I actually had to add in a 5th Meal to get my calories on average up to the 1,100-1,200 range.  Which for me is still very low considering my daily exercise amount.

I walk 3-4 miles a day, and I swim 1-2 hours a day... and occassionally ride my recumbent bike 1 hour additionally.

I really want to continue to lose weight in a healthy manner.  I was wondering what your take was on modifying this diet--- by adding in a small amount of carbs to each meal, or perhaps to every other meal on High Protein days, and vis-versa on the High Carb days, adding in a little protein...

Which incidentally I did yesterday.... I just had too... I was miserable by mid-late day.  I get up late so my meal time is later.  I ended up eating 2 fruit meals, then having green chili enchaladas (instead of the sandwich) I did add a little sour cream, and about 6 tortilla chips to it, but was still feeling dizzy before the last meal time---So I ate one slice of turkey bacon, and then 2 hours after that I ate 1 hard boiled egg, and 2 more slices of turkey bacon...

AND WAS PLEASANTLY SURPRISED this morning when I got on the scales... I have lost 3 lbs exactly so far... Now I realize, that I have been retaining water for over a week, and so I know that is part of it, but I also realize that it is contributed to the change in eating for the last 2 days as well...

Anyone care to....  give me an honest opinion on modifying, and the fact that this diet is similar to ADKINS (sends my kidneys into having a heart attack)...  I would appreciate it, truly.  Thanks Deb

Hi Cobbletts
I want to give you my very best oppinion.
If the diet you did before helped you drop 30 lbs or more, continue doing that.
Not all the diets work the same for all the people and I wouldn't risk the weight I already lost by trying something else.
If you think the other diet is something you can stik to CONTINUE THAT ONE!!!
