I'm new to this forum and just read through your post.  When, for example on the Fruit and Veggie Day, it say's ANY Fruit and ANY Vegetable....I took it for all it was worth.  I ate my share of potatos and loved every second of it.  If it say's 'any' go for it!!!  I quite enjoy having a baked potatoe with some Mrs. Dash seasoning but I don't put any sour cream on it.  Sometimes I may sprinkle a bit of shredded cheese on top but I try to limit my dairy intake.  Anyways, hope this helps!

P.S.  Sometimes I even roast my potatoe with a smidgen (half a capful) of olive oil.  A little oil goes a long way!  Then I sprinkle on some of my favourite zero-calorie seasoning (Mrs. Dash Original Blend) and roast it for a good while until it's just the way I like it.  Very good and it stay's right on track with the 11-day diet!!

If you are really serious about this diet working, you will not touch potatoes or corn. They obviously are pure starch. Sorry! This is a fairly structured diet, but some common sense is still needed.

Actually, many of us IPDers have potatoes and/corn on the F/V day and have not had any problems with it.  The use of these starches on this day has not haulted our weightloss.:P
The rules for this day say any fruit and veggies, there are no fruits or veggies that are off limits.

I've had corn everytime on FV Day and still lost 8 pounds.  I guess that's just as starchy as potatoes.  Now you make me want to try potatoes to see if that works for me.

Bummer, Cowgirl!  Can you mix some starch in and lose?  My wife mixes potatoes, green beans and tomatos (spices too) and loves it.  Helps her a lot.

I like hominy in a vegie chili or pan fried (with pam or whatever) in small doses and I do okay.  I just hope you find something that works for you!!

Hello all! I have been doing this plan for a couple of months now, and have done pretty well for the most part...I want to lose at least another 15 pounds before early October, and it looks pretty doable so far :grin:.

One problem I have been having is with the vegetable day...I just can't hack it :confused:, I want to yak by the end of the day. I know there is a thread on fruit days, but those are pretty easy for me. I am thinking about repeating the fruit day instead of doing a veggie day (not sure about doing the sandwich or not).

Has anyone else had this problem and found solutions that don't stall a person out?

Ok for me---I mostly eat cucumbers the one and only veggie I dont hate. I found this rasberry flavor vinegrette that was not high in calories and it makes the veggie day not as painful for me.  You can also eat beans on that day. They make you feel full and have needed protien. I also get a bit creative and sometimes grill onions and peppers sometimes just to mix it up;. Lisa

Thanks for the reply Lisa...I did very well on my first veggie day a couple of months ago with lots of tomatoes, broccoli and peppers...on the next one I could hardly stomach the tomatoes at all (and I reallly like tomatoes!). I did try the vegetable chili posted in the recipe section of this site, and like it ok...just no way to have that all day.

I am a big ranch dressing fan, so doing veggies in an italian dressing just seems wrong for some reason :grin:

As far as losing weight on this, I have done well so far-dropping about 25 pounds or so...Once in a while the weight is a bit stubborn and there is not much to see on the scale, but usually the next cycle I will drop again.

I do notice that if I drink a lot of diet soda I will not lose as much either...the water really helps with this plan!

rayray...the best way I have found to not gain a whole lot back on the cheat days is to still do the 4 meals a day, but eat what you feel like instead of going into the next cycle right away. The theory with this plan is that you need to let your body get used to your normal foods again so that when you hit the next cycle you will continue to lose weight instead of coming to a standstill.

Also...if you don't have a large amount of weight to lose to begin with, you will see smaller losses over the course of the cycles...perhaps that is part of it?

On veggie days I always cook either a pot of veggie soup or a pot of veggie chili. That item becomes my meal twice in that day. I add lots of beans and prettymuch every type of veggie allowed on the list.

Another thing I make on veggie day is sort of an italian sautee. I use onions, garlic, zuchini, peppers, fresh tomatos, fresh basil, and italian spices and then grate my 1 oz of cheese- usually a combination of fresh parmesan and mozza on top. It's a side dish I've enjoyed for years, now on veggie day it's a meal.

One other vegetarian recipe that I haven't used on veggie day, but intend to is an eggplant roll. Slice an eggplant into long, 1/4" strips and grill them. Then put fresh basil, red peppers, and smoked gouda on the eggplant and roll it up. Bake for about 15 minutes. Just remember that we're limited to 1 oz of cheese per meal.

Hang in, there. Its' do-able :wink:

Bote11c-I did try the veg chili posted here and it was pretty good, but I can't eat it all day without having some stomach issues as well as dreading the next meal. I will probably still keep that in my veg portion of the day, but not all day. I may give the eggplant a try if I get brave :wink:...I have only had it once and it didn't thrill me too much, but maybe it is time to give it another go.

rayray-How did your days off go? I hope you made it through with good results! I am on a "cheat" weekend this coming Friday...hopefully won't gain back!

The old one was not pretty.  3 meals, one fruit, two Veggie.  No cheese or dressing listed.  I actually change it to four meals and add in beans and potatoes to make it through.  Way too few calories that day to be healthy to me.

I did try doing the bean thing and it helped alot, but unfortunately my stomach didn't like the overload of beans :sad:. I think I am going to see if repeating the fruit day stalls me or not...though I may put one meal with the veg chili or a soup in there somewhere. It is just not a good thing when you feel like yaking when you are only thinking of what is for your next meal!

All I can say is that I just made a soup using an onion soup mix as a base.  I added tons of permitted vegetables and pinto beans.  I will work off this pot of soup all day for my four meals.  I will also eat a salad with my last meal if I start to run out of soup.

The soup really isn't that bad.  I can actually get it down.  Next time, I'll prepare it the night before so I will just have to heat it up when I want a meal.  It can take a long time for some of those vegs to turn soft enough to eat.

Hi

I read a thread last week that someone has grilled sliced tomatoes with the 1oz of grated cheese melted over the top. I tried this today ( my veg day)with bbq sauce over and it was delicious, went down a treat.

Back on day 1 of 2nd cycle. Felt really down yest as i felt really bloated and overate on my 'cheat' days. feel taht i've gone back to square 1. Oh well better luck the 2nd time round!

Hi, I just started fat loss for idiots and I am on day 6. I have lost about 2 pounds. One of my questions is, they list pinto beans as a vegetable. Does that mean I can eat pinto beans all day?  I really don't like vegetables.

Also, I am confusesd about the portions. This morning I ate a can of pinto beans, later I will eat a half package of tofu, I will have 200 calories worth of frozen yogurt when I get home and will have chicken and cashews later (probably 2 chicken thighs and 2 oz cashews) is this too much?

I quit drinking alcohol and I used to drink 2 bottles of wine a night.  I also quit coffee.  I thought after quitting drinking, I would loose a ton of weight, but I have been disappointed so far.  Any advice.

Also, can the frozen yogurt dessert be chocolate flavored. It says no chocolate

any help would be great, thanks!!

Do you like v8 juice or chili?  Lots of us make a veggie chili with diced tomatoes, peppers, pintos and fatfree refried beans and chili powder and cumin.  Some make black bean soup or pinto bean soup.  Do you like salads...what about shredded carrots with ff mayo with sweetner...my favorite is asian coleslaw...abag of finely shredded cabbage... chopped cilantro...vinegar and water and sweetner until it is sweet & sour then add alittle toasted sesame oil....awesome and tastes like Chinese...oh and I add alittle ginger and sliced green onion tops.  This diet is to teach us how to eat and live in a way to live slim...keep trying ways to learn to love veggies...usually people hate them because they grew up with mushy ones.  Raw with a low fat dressing dip is good too.  Do you like baby carrots raw?  Keep experimenting and ask people for their favorite veggie ideas and try some with an open mind.  Hope this helps!

Why don't you try having the fruit for breakfast instead make a nice fruit smoothie or just eat some nice fresh cut fruit like watermelon, pears, grapes, strawberry etc......I've always ate the fruit first on that day as I am a huge breakfast person and veggies just don't do the trick for me :yum:

What does ur diet consist of, day 8 is typically veg day on ths diet and day 2 fruit day-although your allowed a sandwhich i evening.

The old plan was from 2005 up through ? (Don't really know) but the new plan has been out for quite awhile. I know there seems to be some confusion about who is doing what and they do seem to be quite different. I would say there are more people using the new version but those that have the old seem to like it better. I think it's what you get used to. So keep following what you're doing and you'll be fine :cool:

hahahaha Oh how I feel your pain lol I am soooo sick of tuna when I picked it I didn't realize that I would be eating it this much :chewing:

I am on the older plan and day 7 is my fruiggie day where I get 2 veggie meals and 1 fruit meal so they do differ there.

I have not even seen the new one or have a clue how it works but I know mine worked for me years ago so I've just stuck with it plus why pay again to get the new one.......I'm sure they all work the same anyways it's the same concept and everyones will vary slightly depending on your food choices.

If anyone wants to see the old one I can show them but keep in mind even the old one will vary person to person depending on what they picked..........smarty pants me at the time pick tuna and cottage cheese as some of my choices and boy am i paying for it now :tongue:

Fruit Salad(I can add light whip topping)

menu for day 5:

veggies

ham and pineapple

omellette ( can add cheese and veggies)

mixed salad ( any kind of veggie i like)

menu for day 6:

grapes (that's it just grapes)

tuna

roast beef sandwich

menu day 7:

2 veggie meals

1 fruit meal

menu day 8:

oatmeal

This seems alot better then the new menu.  At least you can have some carbs, (roast beef sandwhich) and oatmeal for breakfast a day or two also seems great!

I also didn't relize you can add veggies and cheese to the eggs!

This is my first cycle and I am on day 7 and doing fine.  Down 3 or 4 lbs. I will try not to weigh again until my first cheat day!  Also I may just do one cheat day and start again as I want my cheat days to be on the weekends.  :smile:

Any other tips to add to the one or two meal opition per day would be helpful to change things up a bit. It is really hard when your choices for a meal are ham or roast beef. Thats it???  :dizzy:

I am looking forward to changing things up a bit.  I would love a hamburger. (or Turkey) No bun just the meat! ( where would I sub that in??)

I am not a great recipe idea person I generally just eat it the way it is when i get ham and pine i wrap the pine in deli sliced ham and that's it I really have not got creative on it at all I just suffer lol

I also start my diet on mondays so I get every second weekend as a cheat weekend.

As far as subbing a burger patty in I am not sure how you would do that as the foods stated are designed in such a way for the diet to work the best so I am not sure what sort of effect that would have on it and so on but if you must, sub it in for when you are suppose to eat other meat.

I am writing on here right now because i am avioding being upstairs during dinner!  I have a daycare so I make them dinner and tonight is the hardest cause I made burgers and fries and I am a sucker for burgers ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!  I'll get through this I know but I can't be there right now watching them eat it it will kill me :nono:

I agree about the older diet, at least u get more sandwhich options, we can only have one on day 2, also can't add anything to eggs, just basic ally either scarmbled or boiled!! bizarre though cos i regularly have days where meal 1 may be boiled eggs and meal 3 scrambled, i mean jeez how many eggs can a gal eat in 1 day!:grin:

Nina, on veggie days I enjoy carrot, raisin salad for breakfast. I buy a bag of shredded carrots. Mi it with F.F Mayo (sparingly), add a little splenda and sometimes a splash of pinapple juice. I let it sit overnight, and in the morning I drain the juices. Its good. Sometimes I shred some Jicama into it for variety.

Nina, don't choose eggs twice on the diet generator...just once and prepare them as you please....boiled or scrambled or filled or egg salad ect...didn't hurt my loss.  I generate menus until I come up with scrambled eggs and bacon or sausage or cheese or deli meats (turkey or ham cut up in eggs or which I fry abit like bacon)  When veggies come up also, make an omelette or crustless mini quiche .  I eat salsa with my scrambled eggs as a condiment.
I also substitute canned salmon for tuna occasionally or just use fish filet. As long as you substitute like for like.....example...fish for fish...or deli ham for deli turkey..broccoli for green beans...it seems ok once in a while.   That is my opinion.... but others have said the same...caution though that it is same for same and fat, calories and carbs are very similar. 
It's best to stay as close to the diet as possible but it is better to make a substitution than give in to something not on the diet or give up.

I agree if you are having a super hard time switch it up with similar things (when I say similar I mean veryyyy similar) But I would also have to say that if you can, just stick to what it says. Because although some foods are very alike there are differences that even small could make a difference and we are all here to see results so just keep your chins up and keep trucking......they put these foods together for a reason it they meant eat ham for a meal but ohhhhh you can substitute that they'd have said it.....it's like that for a reason because those foods were found to be best together on those days......I'm not anti-switch it up just be reasonable about it don't start doing it with nearly half your meals cause although it may still work a bit it most likely won't be the same results as though you just followed what was on it :shock:

Not sure who's allowed meat and cheese with their eggs but if you are this is what I do:

take a few slices of deli ham and fry em then melt cheese on top

scramble my eggs

put my eggs on top of the meat and cheese then roll it up like a burrito with a small amount of ketchup (I am allowed ketchup on my diet not sure if you all are)

does the trick anyways and tastes pretty good

Are u allowed raisins on your menu? I never have that option on my menu. it seems that there ar quite a few combinations flying around, but my menu doesn't seem to generate this? i usually get scrambled egg and cottage cheese combi, or egg and prawns but never egg and cheese? Oh wellmaybe will change in time?

Cheat day tomorrow Yay! :grin: just need to make sure i don't over do it like last time!

I have the new menu and the old menu. Since raisins are dehydrated grapes, why not? Just dont use any that have added sugas and stuff.
