Don't feel alone.  I'm also doing Beyond Calories right now.  The unfortunate thing is that when I last tried it, I didn't really lose much weight, but then again I didn't stick with it all the way through Day 10.  I always seem to be more successful usisng Diet Generator, but Beyond Calories is not as restrictive.

Today, I'm now on Day 6 and appear to have lost about 4 lbs, even though I haven't strictly adhered to the diet.  I'm gonna sick with this through Day 10 with hopes that I lose a lot more.

Just stick with it until Day 10.  I'll be here right along side of you.

Good luck, and let me know how things are going.

Anyar ... I am new to this post as well as the diet.  I tried BC and lost eight pounds ... not faring so well on DG ... was wondering if I might be able to get a copy of your spreadsheet ... thanks in advance.

I have been reading lots of these posts ... very motivational!  You all seem so supportive and friendly ... I look forward to reading more!

Hi, Weisenheimer:

Congrats on the 8 lb loss using Beyond Calories.  I'm actually just the opposite.  I just did Beyond Calories and lost about 5 lbs.  I usually lose more doing DG.  Not sure if adhering to the six meals daily is the problem because I just can't seem to do it.  Eating 4x/day is a little more reasonable for me.

Also, be sure to join in on the "FL4I - Genreal Discussion" thread.  Mostly everyone there is doing DG but people often switch up and over to BC.

Again, congrats and keep up the success!

Hi, lbolt:

I am no longer distributing the spreadsheet.  However, it is a very simple thing to create in Excel.  I simply listed in the left column Day 1 thru Day 11, and for each day I list the food choices that I'm allowed to eat from the Beyond Calories food menu group as well as the amount of water that I drink daily.

You can also create something very similar in MS Word.

The spreadsheet is simply a diary that I created to track food items.

Hello everyone!

I'm new here. I purchased FL4I and beyond calories a few days ago and decided to give it a go. Am on day 2 of the BC diet. All I want is to lose 10 lbs, but I'm not sure I'm able to manage. This is a challenge for me because I'm never too motivated about anything, and I want to prove to myself (and others) that I can last 10 days (or a week) on this diet, and not eat any chocolate or sweets. I just need some support.

Anyway, a few questions: I'm a vegetarian, and I usually eat a lot of yoghurt (and some milk in coffee). But no dairy apart from cheese it seems in the list? Is it okay to replace cheese by yogurt? Say: if they say group 1 and 2, I can eat a plain yogurt with mixed nuts and fruits?

2) What do they mean by cheese slices? Any of them?

3) for group 2 I've been eating oatmeal (with water not milk), is it a bad thing?

4) they say lettuce, can't it be any other type of salad?

5) why do eggs need to be hard boiled or scrambled?

6) what about soup

I think I've done good (considering I work in a restaurant place where I spend the morning alone baking cakes, putting sandwishes and salads on the counter, and selling cookies and cakes all day long), not sure if I'm on the right track:

(drinking hot tea all day long)

Day 1:
-1 orange, 3 apricots
-oatmeal with almonds
-2 cheese slices and 1 pear
-salad: mushrooms, tomatoes, lettuce + boiled egg
-slice of watermelon (is it allowed?) with some walnuts
-some melon with blackberries

Day 2:
-1 orange, 2 apricots
-oatmeal with almonds
-2 cheese slices + pineapple
-cold cucumber soup (but it was very salty! 8 hours later, I still have the taste in my mouth :() + ice tea
-salad with some quinoa
-green beans, 1 cheese slice, and some melon (I wasnt supposed to pick a group 1 food but it was starting to waste)

Any advices?

Edit: oh and I keep trembling all day long. Day 3 I just woke up (later than usual) and my whole body is shaking so much I can barely walk. I'm starving. (yet I feel I've been eating well those past 2 days).

In looking at the number of times you're eating per day, it appears that you are "attempting" to follow the "Beyond Calories" where you choose food items from a predefined food group.

To answer your first question, "Beyond Calories" is a very restrictive diet as is the Diet Generator.  It was designed based on calorie rotation, the glycemic index, as well as a few other things.  For this reason, you only allowed to eat what is on the food menu group.

In reading the rules of both "Beyond Calories" and "Diet Generator" it clearly states that the food items should not be manipulated.   With that said, yogurt is not inclulded in "Beyond Calories" (BC) but frozen yogurt is allowed on "Diet Generator" (DG).  Likewise, milk in coffee is not allowed using BC but coffee cream is allowable using DG.

Cheese slices" can be any type of cheese slices you choose whether it's pepper jack, cheddar, american, etc.

Oatmeal is not allowed on BC but is allowed on DG if you select it from the menu.

The term "salad" is very broad and can include anything ranging from pasta salad, fruit salad, etc.  However, any form of "Lettuce" is allowable.

Scrambled eggs are usually scrambled in a skillet with oil, butter, Pam, etc., which is an added extra to the diet.   A hardboiled egg is simply boiled in water.

Soup is allowable if you are able to concoct a soup out of "water" (not broth) and other items that are allowed from your food group.

If you feel trembles or light-headed, my suggestion would be to increase your food intake.  If persistent, you might want to see a doctor.

The only recommendation I have for you concerning both diets is to avoid manipulation.  Simply eat what it says, which should leave no room for error.

Good luck.

Thank you so much for your reply and advices, it helped a lot! After feeling very ill all day I ate as usual and felt better. I'm gonna try the Diet Generator starting tomorrow, it seems more suitable for my likings and needs. Let's hope I can stick to it this time :)

Be sure to select the "Vegetarian" version once you go to the Diet Generator.

Good luck.

Hi

I am on my 5th cycle of the Beyond Calories. I have lost 22 lbs so far. Eating 6 meals a day has been very helpful for me because I don't feel hungry all the time. I am so grateful I found this and decided to purchase it along with the Diet Generator. I tried the Diet Generator for a couple of days and I felt light headed and so went back to the BC. I think BC has really given me a way to loose weight.

I realized and am realizing a few things through my journey....

1) my weight did not come on over night so therefore it will not go away over night. 2) I need to ride my bike or walk a little each day along with BC ( Not strenuously, but lightly) 3) I need to make it a life change not just a quick fix. 4) On my one to two days off, I need to be careful to not stuff myself so I don't put back on the 4-7 lbs I just lost on my 10 day cycle! 5) Be accountable to others so that I can stick with it! 6) Make up my mind that I will stick with it to the end, even when I get bored, tired, or just plain wanting chocolate!

I am sure there will be much more to learn as I continue on my BC journey.

Hi Everyone!  I love Beyond Calories.  I like that it tells me what I can eat and what I cannot eat.  I lost 10.1 lbs on my first cycle and I am on my second cycle now.  I could use some advice.  For those of us that take a day or two off in between cycles, how do you manage what you eat?  I like have some time off so that you can eat that certain think you have been wanting/craving!!  I just don't want to undo in two days what I took 10 days to accomplish.  I have been blessed to have found this diet!!!!

Welcome Sweetestajever,

That is a very good question! That is the very area I have been struggling with! I find that I am having to learn just how my body works. It takes me 10 days to loose weight and then 2 days to put most of it back on if I'm not careful! There are times that I will only take 1 day off instead of 2 depending on how I am feeling. I'm on my 6th cycle of BC.  I've lost 22 lbs. so far. It would have been more if I didn't have to re-loose what I gained during my days off.

I am learning that I can not eat everything I craved during my 10 day cycle on those  days off.  I also am learning on my days off that I still need to eat several times during the day. ( not necessarily 6 meals, but more than 3.)

I love breads, pastas, potatoes, chocolate and ice cream! I'm having to be very careful of how much of those foods I eat. So for my body, I decided to pick just a couple of the things I really want and cut it in half. I am still eating healthy items along with those not so healthy item while satisfying my little cravings! It really has been helping me not gain back during the days off.

I'd love to hear others insight...there is always so much to learn!

Hi everyone!  Just purchased my "Beyond Calories" last night.  I've already planned out my meals for the 10 days as to make it easier for me in any given moment.  I was really glad to find this website.  I've taken a few moments to read some of the posts and found them fun and motivating.  Thanks to all that post!

I've put on about 35 pounds over the last 4 years.  A divorce as well as going through the "change" caused me to lose focus on my own health.   It's time for a change!  I have always been fairly attentive to my weight; watching what I eat, working-out etc., but find that I'm needing some additional help to get back on track.

I'm hoping that the 6 meals a day will go a long way to help me with my hunger.  The "change" has left me with really strong carb carvings.  The lack of sleep at night (another wonderful side effect of the change) isn't helping my energy, either.

Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself and say that I'm looking forward to your inspirations as well as hopfully offering up any help that I can.  Talk more later.

Cherie

Hi!

Since being on the Beyond Calories! I have lost 9 pounds in 8 days.  I still have 2 more days to go.  Then I am taking a day off.  I was told its better to take 2 days off.  I also am worried about taking a couple of days off in fear of gaining the weight that I tried so hard to lose.  I will try it for one day and see, if I start gaining I think I will only take 1 day off.  Its funny at the beginning of the cycle I was craving my cappacinno and popcorn and chocolat.  But now, for some reason I can't wait to be off and eat some seafood at Red Lobster.  I really find with this diet I get alot less cravings plus its the only diet I didn't get any headaches.  I don't have energy and don't exercise yet, but as soon as I lose more weight hopefully by august, I can start introducing exercise.

Well, good luck to all and I will be reading for some advice and encouragement.

I am new to Beyond Calories and need help on a few things.

1) Can I have an egg over medium?

2) Can I have tofu?

3) What exactly is creamer (for the coffee)?  What does it say in the store?  Is it half n half?

4) I eat out a lot.  Today I noticed chopped fresh garlic in with my broccoli.  I tried to eat around it.  Would that hurt the diet?

5) Can I still follow my usual exercise routine (half hour of arch trainer, weight lifting)?

Any help you could give me would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Anyar, I also wish I had purchased the BC when I initially bought the program. I was over optimistic for DG, but its not really working that great for me....specially that we are a vegetarian indian family and carbs- rice and wheat are main components of our diet and also that I have a very picky eater toddler for whom I am cooking all day long. To add on, I am pre-diabetic, getting insulin resistence, hypothyroid, and symtoms of pcos - these things are all linked together and its like one thing causes another and all these conditions make you gain weight and/or make it hard to lose.

Sorry for rambling on, just wanted to ask if you could let me know how to get BC now and also, how to Private Message you.
Thanks so much,
Slim

I want to start the BC, but just coming up with the menus is hard work!  I got up to day 4 and haven't gotten back to it.  Do you suppose it would accomplish nearly the same thing if I let the Diet Generator do my thing and then just divide what it comes up with into 6 meals instead of 4?  Whew!  I lost a couple ounces just trying to make my own menus!

Just thought I would give an update.  Since my Beyond Calories postings in March I tried to continue the program but wasn't losing anything.  I gave up and ended up gaining all my weight back in no time even though I was watching what I ate.

A friend of mine BEGGED me to start the South Beach Diet with her as she had lost 35 lbs on it so far.  I agreed to try it for 2 weeks ONLY and expected to stop after proving her wrong as I have become so FED UP with diets.

2 1/2 weeks later I have lost 7 lbs.  When I woke up this morning and got on the scale I was down 2 lbs more then just yesterday.  The diet touts a weight loss of 2 lbs per week on average.  I was down 2.4 lbs the first week and 2.6 lbs the second week.   Growing up as a meat & potatoes eater in the midwest, South Beach seems natural because it's meat (protein) & vegetables in the beginning.  Various Carbs, sugars and fruit are introduced back into the program beginning on week 3.  Yesterday was my first day of week 3 and I had a "No-Pudge" brownie and 1/2 cup cantaloupe for my carbs.  Surprisingly, the scale was down an additional 2 lbs today from yesterday.  Can't tell you how excited I am to watch the lbs falling off.

Everyone's body works just a little differently and the high fruit content of Beyond Calories didn't work for my body.  I'm hoping that Beyond Calories is working for you as it is a good, healthy program.        Happy Weight Loss!

I'm really wishing I had purchased the Beyond Calories, because just eating four meals a day is making me A) Hungry and B) Sick.  I cheated last night because I was starving and I had already eaten my four meals.

Sigh.

My husband will never let me spend more money on this program!

Hello everybody!

I just got my fl4i few days ago + the beyond calories. i chose to go the beyond calories was and had started the diet since monday.

There are some questions I would like to ask fellow "comrades" here

on the diet I noticed that I'm only supposed to eat till I'm satisfied and no longer hungry but not full, I did that but i find that although I'm satisfied with how much I'm eating, in just an hour my stomach will be rumbling and growling. Am i doing it wrong that I end up starving myself instead?

Will this diet work for me if I (think/seem to) have messy metabolic rate due to previous starvation diets and meal replacement diets?

I'm taking supplements such as bee pollen, garcinia, flax seeds, apple cider vinegar etc etc. can I continue taking them or do i drop them off completely?

This diet mentioned that walking is sufficient, but will it do better/harm if i choose to jog instead?

sorry for the many questions  just dont want to do anything wrong. I wanna lose at least 30pounds by this oct. am i being unrealistic?

I am starting my 9th cycle with Beyond Caleries and I am so excited I have lost 34 lbs! It would have been more if I didn't have to go back a few times and re-loose some lbs during my 1 to 2 days off! I have about 50 more to go!

Angel, I sent you a pm!

congrats a2u2b!

falerina, I'll try to answer some of your questions:

on eating until satisfied, on the beyond calories diet, it is best to invision half a plateful each meal. It's like three full meals split in two. You won't be in starvation mode eating that much. If you find yourself really hungry within an hour maybe eat a little bit more each meal. You have to find the right balance for you!

many of us take acv and flax, so I don't see any problem with you taking your supplements at all.

on exercising, they suggest a brisk walk because that's the type of exercise that gets the heart rate at the right speed to burn fat. If the heart rate goes faster you start burning carbs instead, so I suggest a brisk walk for the best results.

you want to lose 30 pounds by october 1st? That is only 6 weeks. I had a lot to lose(112 pounds) and lost the first 30 in eight weeks, which was pretty fast. It depends on how much you have to lose, really. If you only have 30 pounds to lose it may take a few more weeks. I've been doing the generator since march and have lost 62 pounds so far. Good luck on your weight loss goals!

And to all, feel free to post in the general discussions too.We have some people on the BC diet there, and I am sure you will get a lot of helpful advice to any questions in that discussion area.

on exercising, they suggest a brisk walk because that's the type of exercise that gets the heart rate at the right speed to burn fat.

And to all, feel free to post in the general discussions too.We have some people on the BC diet there, and I am sure you will get a lot of helpful advice to any questions in that discussion area.

thank you for your generous input! my bad i actually meant by mid oct which is about 8 weeks. well 30 pounds is what i am aiming for. I guess i just have to do my best and hope for the best by then. I sure hope the results wont disappoint!

on eating the correct portions, hmmm i'm pretty sure i have big enough portions and i usually feel ''full'' but not bloated as i used to be. i always thought it'd last me for the 2.5 - 3 hrs till the next meal but it usually doesn't. now i'm wondering if i've done things wrong. or perhaps i need time to adapt? i was thinking if it could be a possibilty that my metabolism is all revved up now and burning whatever intake and then when it wasnt enough it starts to send hunger signals... any thoughts on that?

ok i'll be sure to post my same concerns there.
thankies!!!

I'm doing better today.  Decided that four meals wasn't working for me & started eating whenever I felt sick or really hungry.  BUT... I'm only eating off the day's list, and I'm only eating small portions.  Like, I broke my sandwich in half and had it for lunch and supper.  This seems to be working better with my unstable blood sugar.

And guess what?  I've already lost some weight!

Hello to all!! My name is DeVon and this is my 3rd day on DG diet. It is going HORRIBLE. :crying:. Day1 was okay and Day2 was alright, I was just hungry all day, this was the fruit day, and the idea was to eat 2 pieces of fruit for 3 meals and then meal 4 was a deli meat sandwich. The sandwich was my favorite meal! I love fruit, but not too happy with eating fruit only ALL day. Needless to say, I ate what I wanted yesterday and even drank a BEER!!! Soo not suppose to do that, but i was stressing!

So I was wondering.. Can I pick my diet back up from where I left off which would put me on day #3, or should I start all over from day 1 tomorrow? I have already been following the eating schedule for day #3 today just incase I could fix this. I haven't drank nearly as much water as I should though, I'm having problems with drinking 10glasses of water. I went from 6 sodas a day to none tho :yum: That is good for me! Ive only had 9oz and its 2:11pm here.

Hi Devon,

I started over.  I'm on my second cycle of beyond calories.  I had great success for the first cycle, and switched to FL4I, but hated it and dropped it.  Then switched back to beyond, and dropped it after getting half way through.  After a few days break, I'm back on beyond (day 5) and it's going great again.  When I first started the Beyond, I was getting ready to drop it because I wasn't loosing wight and thought it was a gimic, but then I started loosing weight.  I  lost around 10-11 pounds in 10 days.  I was hating the diet at first, but then I started feeling energetic.  I found a water bottle that holds 8 glasses of water.  I'd drink during each meal, and that made it easier.  Also, I don't like coffee, but I drink it black (~14 oz) first thing every morning.:apple:

Hi!

I am also on day 5 of my second cycle. I lost 8lbs on the fist cycle, took three days off and started again. I didn’t lose anything the first few days of this cycle but was down a pound this morning and will probably see a few more pounds drop

I feel great on this diet and have no problem drinking the water. I drink two glasses of water between my meals.

Hi Christy,

Welcome and congratulations on your weight loss.  You should join the September/October weight loss challenge.  I joined yesterday.  It sounds like it will be great for keeping us motivated.

Thanks De, I joined the challenge  It looks like our weights and goals are very close. Are you tall? I am 5'10. Once I get to 155 I'll be right where I need to be.

How was your day 6? I did great with my day 5. Tomorrow (day 6) I get 4 foods from group 4, what shall I splurge on :chewing:

Hi Christy,

congratulations on joining the challenge!  I'm 5'6", and I'd like to eventually get down to 140 lbs.

I love doing the fruit -grapes, strawberries, apples.  Also, I love cashews, but had to give them up, even though I love them a lot.  I was eating too many becuase of buying them in large quanity from Costco.  They've been my only weakness during the entire diet, but still were not hard to give up as long as I don't buy them.  It was great today that I went to a luncheon and it was all of this great food around, and I ate nothing.  The Beyond Calorie diet has really curbed my appetite.  I've never had this much self control on any other diet in my life.

Good Luck.

Hi De,

Is this day nine for you? How did you do this cycle? I have not lost anything(yet?) this cycle! It might be that I am not eating enough. I feel so full all the time sometimes a meal is just a slice of tomato. Also, I have been working out with weights... I plan to stick with it though. How about you, are you up for another cycle?

Hi Christy,

Yes, Sunday was day 9.  I was down to 165 yesterday, but back up to 166.5 lbs this afternoon.  I'm definitely up for for another cycle, because I know that I've wanted to give up twice but decided to keep going.  Each time with good results, so I'm glad that you're sticking with it.  I haven't started doing weights or exercise yet, because I was thinking of not adding those in until I reached a plateau (maybe close to 2 cycles with no change).  I've been tracking my intake, and making a special effort to stay above 1000 calories.  The maximum that I've been able to do is around 1450 calories, and I've been eating as soon as I wake up, and evenly spacing my meals, and eating the lower number of calories in the evening.  You're definitely a step ahead of me with the weights, Hang in there.

Hi De,

I'm glad you are going to do another cycle. It is so nice not to feel like I'm the only one

I track my caloric intake too. This is how I have done for the past 8 days of this cycle,

1218, 1011, 916, 868, 825, 1148, 944, 1131

I know it is pretty low. I try to eat some nuts to bring it up but I just have no appitite.

Hi Christy,

Here's my intake for the cycle that I just finished.

1625, 1375, 1310, 1190, 1170, 1240, 965, 1445, 780, 987.

What I've also recently noticed is that I'm hungrier faster when I have the fruit meals, so I go a shorter time (~2 hours) after one of those meals and I wait longer after eating a protein packed meal (3 to 3.5 Hours).  I end up having more flexibility, because I eat as soon as I get up (5:30 to 6 am).  Also, make sure that you're getting close to at least 8 hours of sleep.  I was having sleeping problems, but the Beyond Calories diet has helped my sleeping routine which may also be helping my weight loss.

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I just started BC yesterday and weighed in this morning at 157.9 that is almost 3 pounds down from yesterday. Is that possible? I would like to lose 30 pounds by January, but the holidays are coming and I'm a little worried. I know what has happened in the past when I started diets around this time of year. I usually put on more weight than if I were not on any diet at all. I'm determined though. I ate 5 meals yesterday, but woke up with my 1 year old daughter at 2 am really hungry. I should have had that last meal. I'm really excited about this diet and refuse to fail this time around....appreciate any help!

Hey guys,
I am new to this forum but it seems to be very active and could possibly help with a question/problem I am having. I am on my second cycle day 5 of Beyond Calories. My first cycle I lost 13 lbs in 9 days. With no working out. Then on my 4 days off I gained 3.5 back, mainly water I am assuming because I didn't really drink a lot then. So I have lost a total of 9.5, still good in my book. Day 5 of my 2nd cycle and NOTHING!!!
     What gives?
Is it because my body is adjusting?
I started working out and thought that would help..no. So I have suffered from a lack of faith and cheated on day 2 and yesterday, day 2 I drank a bottle of wine, and yesterday I had 2 slices of pizza. Today I have been fabulous as well as the other days that I didn't oops up on.
I have been drinking more pop than I did last time...could that be it? However, I am still drinking all the water I am supposed to be.
     Any suggestions?
Is this normal for cycle 2 then cycle 3 picks back up?

THANKS! Sorry so long...

I am on the DG so can't answer your questions.  But there are others that have either been on Beyond Calories, or are currently on this program, that may be able to help you if you come over to the General Discussion forum for FL4I, as this thread is not as active as that one is.  See you there!
