bolo - Yes, I agree... the organic virgin coconut oil is great to cook with!  I keep a big jar of it that I get online.  It's a healthy fat and it really adds a nice flavor to food.  We just have to be careful to not overdo it on even the healthy fats.  Of course, on the diet this may not pertain, as we aren't really supposed to use the oils.  But in my everyday cooking I use both EVOO and coconut oil.  And when I am not dieting I even throw a teaspoon in my smoothies.

Well - I am on my second round of BC and I am not at all impressed this time around. I did not use any oil to cook with - aren't you proud of me. I wanted to stick to the way the diet was written, so I decided to tough it out and just eat salad with what we were allowed to eat. However, I did re-discover an item that I had forgotten worked really well - Zip-Steam bags by Ziploc - they are AWESOME. I have been putting broccoli or limas or green beans and seasoning only with Jane's Crazy Mixed Up salt - and I have to say, it is delish! Unfortunately, I have gained back 3 of the 10 I lost. I don't know what I am or am not doing - any suggestions would be helpful. I drink tons of water - eat 5-6 meals - no extras added to my food - it is very discouraging - the DG worked much better for me. I have to go out of town this weekend, and think I will start back on it when I return until Thanksgiving - this is a bummer.

justgrits - Are you saying you did not lose anything this cycle, but gained 3 lbs just being on the BC?  I want to make sure I am understanding this right.  I had luck my first cycle on BC but I have had trouble trying it after that.  I know I have hormone problems and I am really struggling myself.  If I can commit to a DG cycle, I know I can do well again.  I hate to knock BC as it does work for some.  Kitty and Sunshine (among others) can attest to that.  But Jillian Michaels says it is not good to eat several small meals like BC recommends.  I am not sayng Jillian Michaels is THE final answer, but she does have a lot of staff who researches and she does have a lot of success. Yet others say that the several small meals IS the way to go.  With all the info I read,  my head is spinning trying to get a grip on what is healthy, yet at the same time what can help you lose without taking forever. I know it is proven that a slow, steady loss is best and healthiest.  But to be honest, how many people do you know that have the willpower to stick with something long enough to get the results they want?  That is why I love FL4I.  You can lose a decent amount of weight in a relatively short amount of time... which gives us the hope and strength to keep on going until we reach our goal.  I know I am speaking for myself, but I feel I am also speaking for MANY people.  We are a society of wanting it NOW.  It is so hard to project so far ahead without some kind of result that helps us believe it is possible and know we CAN do it.  I did so great on the DG and lost 47 lbs in 4 1/2 months and kept it off for a year.  I know it is possible.  But right now, I am struggling with hormone issues and belly fat.  People say, I look fine and they can't tell, but believe me... I can tell BIG time and the scale is not lying! I feel so fat right now. :crying: I think over the last 2 years I have seen cycles I have done now and then and how some I do fantastic and others I just squeak by.  There are so many factors that can influence each cycle... we cannot give up when we have one "dud" cycle.  We have to stick with it, as overall it works and we see results.  So hang in there and know you are NOT alone!!!:grin:

No worries webfairy, I completely understand which is why I took the time to add the disclaimer.

I thank you for your kind comments I guess I take a slightly different view on the links, I see them as a win win maybe I have provided information that others were not aware of and in them benefiting I too benefit, I completely understand taking a proactive approach to spam if it not relevant or informative in any way shape or form.

Rather than saying to yourself it is so hard to find time why not say "I only need to spend 2% of my day working on my physical fitness in order to feel great" and see if that mental change helps you to find some more time.

Thanks. Yes. I am on my second week of BC. I did really well the first week but I am not having as much success this round. I did do well on FL4I, & will probably go back to it. I'm not giving up yet.:pig:

justgrits - Ok, so it's just THIS cycle.  It's just so weird how our weight can fluctuate daily, and, depending on what is going on with our bodies (food, hormones, water retention, etc.) it can make a big difference.  One day we can be at a certain weight and the next we can be up 4 lbs. and you KNOW we did not eat 4 lbs. of food that we packed on as fat, but still we freak out.  We have to let this weight stuff play out over time.  If you stick with it another cycle, you will see that as long as you follow the diet as it is outlined, you should see a difference.  From the time you started until now have you lost weight? Are you the same? Have you gained?  If you have lost then you are on the right track.  It isn't about this particular cycle, although that does help encourage us.  It's the "whole" picture.  Try a cycle of DG.  I am going to start one on the Monday after Thanksgiving.  I am not going to pretend I can start on Monday and go through Thansgiving.  I am not fooling myself into thinking I will actually do it.  I am going to enjoy Thanksgiving, but I am going to try to be very conscious of what I eat and my portions, so I don't gain any more.  Come Monday, I am going to be a drill sargeant on myself, and work hard being disciplined until Christmas.  Then I will take a short break and back to the diet for January, so I can hopefully be back at my goal weight again by my birthday on the 20th.  I love goals, as it helps me work harder.  Please let us know how you do on your next cycle.  If you post in the General Discussion thread, you will have more responses as more of our members "hang out" there.  Either way I will be looking for your posts.

bolo - I love your attitude.  That is how I normally like to look at things... "the glass is half full".  I try to look at the positive, as opposed to the negative, as our mindset makes a HUGE difference.  I totally believe how we THINK can influence how things are.  I have just been making excuses for myself lately and who is that helping?  If I look at it like it is only 2% of my day, how can I possibly complain that I can't make the time???!! hehehe Thanks for the perspective!

You know it is funny how your body works. I weighed this morning and was all of a sudden down 5 pounds. Go figure. So first cycle I lost 10 lbs., took a day off to regroup. Went back on BC Monday, was up 3 pounds by Tuesday - then today am down 5 lbs. So overall weight loss since the beginning of Nov is 12 lbs. That is truly a great weight loss for 14 days of dieting. I had such great success with FL4I that I was anxious to see what BC would produce, and lost sight of my focus. I have quite a bit of weight to lose so I have set small goals for myself. I have deemed FL4I successful because 3 years ago found FL4I and over a year, I lost 40 pounds following that plan, and have kept it off. It was the first time in years that I found a way of eating that actually fit my lifestyle and attention span, so the fact that I was losing weight on it was - well - icing on the cake. I learned how to accept that there are times that I will not be able to stick exactly to the plan, and that it was OK. Just pick up and continue on toward your goal. Because of what I learned in addition to the way the calorie shifting helped boost my metabolism, is why I sit here today and tell you I have kept nearly all of that 40 lbs off. I tend to fluctuate between 30 to 40 lbs lost, but its lost-it is gone-it has not come back - and that to me is the testament of a successful program is the long term - they all work for a little while - but this is the first one that has been this successful for me personally. I usually lose the weight and gain it all back and then some - this is the first time that I have held around the same weight for more than a year - much less for 3. So, I think Bo lo said - persevere - this plan helps me to do that - because I know in the end it works.

CONGRATULATIONS, justgrits!  That is why we say to members not to weigh everyday, as it is the overall weight loss, not the day to day, that tells the story.  WOOHOO!  Great testimony!

I'm pretty sure I am a Protein type. For the meals that allow you to eat anything on the master list, should I lean towards the protein choices?

Hi pizzaman!  It's up to you.  I, personally, lean towards the protein choices on Group 4 as it keeps me from feeling hungry.  It depends what I get that day for other meals, but will sometimes do a salad with cheese and chicken or fish if that works for the meal. I never pick fruit, I can tell you that!  It is WHATEVER you want, so do what works best for you.  And congratulations on your great results!

Hi Rory. No, that is not normal. I have done the BC, and while it works great for some poeple, I had my success on the diet generator.  I did do one cycle of BC and lost, but that was after I lost all my weight on the DG and then a year later gained a bit, and decided my metabiolism was a bit sluggish.  I always worry that people could think the meals on BC are "normal" sized meals, when they should be half sized meals, as you get 6 meals per day.  I think it is great for people with sluggish metabolisms, but have you considered the diet generator version of FL4I?  If you follow it exactly, it can bring some amazing results.  Most of us post in the general discussion thread of the FL4I forum.  Wh don't you meet us over there and discuss this?  There could be many reasons why this is not working for you. So please post in that thread and give us details as to what you have been doing in the BC up to now.  Are you on any meds?  How old, how much weight do you have to lose, etc.  Looking foreward to hearing more from you, and getting you to a place where you start seeing some results.

I am on day 7 of Beyond Calories diet and am down 13 pounds. If you are not losing much look at portion size. Too much could slow you and too little can slow you down. I add water to my Hidden Valley Ranch Lite dressing bottle to make it not so thick and that helps cut the amount I'd use if it were thick. I am very satisfied with this diet. I am handicapped and unable to exercise. I do buy organic fruits and veggies and meats. I many times substitute chicken and bacon strips with buffalo/bison patties.

Wow, bkp, I have never heard of anyone losing that much in ony 7 days!  Congratulations!  I tried the BC once but was too worried about overeating at meals.  When I am hungry, I am hungry, and the DG worked much better for me.  I know there are others that love BC as it works best for their situation.  But, wow... I am impressed at your results!  Any other thoughts on why you think you have lost so much so fast on the BC?

I think the 1st 3 days was fluid pull off because I trotted to the loo every hour it seemed. I am now losing fat and not trotting to pee every hour like I did those 1st 3 days. The organic veggies and fruits actually have a taste that keeps me more satisfied than the wax you get at the regular grocery. Bison is low in fat and contains no growth hormones. I prepared my pinto beans with salt meat and am still losing weight. I use seltic sea salt and garlic salt frequently also. I use a powder butter substitute
and any oils I use is cold pressed
extra virgin olive oil. I am an extreme over-eater and the 6 smaller meals help with that. I have done tons of diets with little success but this has really been easy and something I will be able to stick to and it is easy to do with my handicap. I have over 100lbs to lose.

Hey Guys, it's been about 6 months but I am back!! I had tried the BC cycle once and lost about 6 pounds. I must admit though that I did not FULLY stick to the diet. If you recall I was in Africa on vacation and getting ready for my destination wedding, and it was really hard to find all the foods listed in the plan.

I have been back in the U.S for a few months and now ready to start again! between the wedding, honeymoon and family gatherings, I have gained 20 pounds!! :(

Anyway, congrats to BKP! That is soooo amazing!

Hi Everyone,

Just looking at starting BC again. I have had the FL4I and the BC for a while. Me and my wife tried the FL4I cycle a while ago and it did work. Both of us dropped about 8 lbs in the 11 days. I didn't really care for the vegi and fruit days. We started on the BC for a week or 2 and got side tracked.

At the time, I had not run across this forum. It helps when there is a lot of support around.

As I was snooping around I seen a comment about a spreadsheet that one of the members had built to make it easier to pick the meals for the days. I was wondering if someone still had it and could send it to me?

I will try to check in with my progress once I get going on it.

Thanks,

Rod

Hi Rod and welcome ... Most of us hang out on the fl4i general discussion page so any questions/concerns you have would be best posted there as this thread doesn't seem to be very active these days.  Most are on the dg plan (diet generator) but there are one or two on the bc plan. I haven't tried the bc myself as I had great success with the dg plan so stuck with that. I haven't heard of the spread sheet you mentioned but if you ask the question on the general discussion board someone else may be able to help.  You know, fruit and veggie days aren't so bad.. there are some great recipes in the recipe thread to help get through them, such as quick tomato soup for fruit day (yes, you can have tomatoes, onions and peppers on fruit day! .. because those are the ingredients of salsa sauce which is allowed on ANY meal) and don't forget there's the tasty sandwich to look forward to also. For veggie day there are various recipes such as veggie chilli, veggie curry and hearty veg soup, as well as mixed bean salad. I always got through them by telling myself it is just one day and by the next day I knew I would always drop another 2-3lbs overnight... so very rewarding! I suggest reading the diet tips and guidelines thread also as there are great tips and tricks to help you including foods you can sub for another.
They are a great bunch on the general discussion board and you will receive lots of help and support to reach your goal... see you over there! Good luck!

Hello Everyone

Well I can't say I'm new here... I was on BC before about a year ago and also about a year before that. Both times I fell off the wagon. I did a really stupid diet last year in August which was incredibly restrictive. I lost loads of weight.... but it's come back - AND THEN SOME! I was chatting to a friend at work who wanted to lose weight and I found myself recommending BC at which point it occurred to me - why the h*ll am I not doing it??

I started yesterday - this is my second day of my first cycle of my third try (wow - how convoluted). I also bought and started power 90 in the mornings and hopefully:dizzy: will be able to do it for the 90 days along with 9 cycles of BC. I didn't want to face the scale to see what I'd done to myself but I did this morning and I nearly fell over. I have gained an average of 3 lb per week since august!!! I'm so ashamed. But relieved because now I know what I have to work with!

I'm hoping to lose 5kgs this cycle (about 11 pounds). I'm hoping that because I'm soooo much heavier now it'll come off a little more quickly at the beginning.

I also took before pictures of myself in just a sports bra and some hot pants. O. M. G. It's baaaaad. I haven't seen as many rolls on a Shar-pei! I'm quite grossed out with myself.

I remembered how great everyone on this forum was the last time I was here and hope that it'll help me to get back on the horse - and stay on it this time. I'm turning 30 in August and I don't want to spend another birthday feeling rubbish about myself.

Wish me luck and speak to you sooon!

Seraph xx

Welcome back Seraph   Sorry to hear you've gained the weight back but you're doing the right thing by jumping back on track and will soon be back to your fighting weight  It's good that you are exercising too from the beginning as that will help speed up your loss and tone and shape as you lose.
I haven't personally tried the bc plan as I lost very well with the diet generator but know of others that have tried it.
Most members here use the dg plan but some have tried the bc also. You will be better off posting on the general discussion board as that is where we all 'hang' out and you will be more likely to get a response there as there is very little activity here.
I wish you luck on your journey to a slimmer and healthier you and hope to see you over the general discussion board soon.
