Hi Guys. Re-read the rules and can't see anything I'm messing up on. The only thing I can think of is the mixed veges I buy have a light basil oil on them (I assume this is equivalent to the little bit of low cal dressing). That being said, I've been eating them from the beginning and had quite good losses (I think). Maybe it's just one of those weeks... Does anyone notice that they lose more weight at certain times of the cycle than others? The other thing I might be doing wrong is sometimes when it says have 2 fruits I only have one. Is that bad? Excuse all the questions - I'm a scientist to tend to analyse until I find an answer. Siiiiiiiiggggggggghhhh!

Seraph...I think it is just "one of those weeks" It sounds like you are doing everything right! Hey, don't look at the scale! The scale is not "king of your world" ...you ARE burning fat and it will show in your body and loose clothing.
DO NOT GIVE UP OR IN out of frustration..OK? You are doing GREAT!!!
Hang in there and you will be fine! We have all had some cycle like that...it is part of life...but those of us who made goal..kept going and eventually made it. You will too!

Hey, new to the diet and have a question.
Are we allowed small variations on the foods specified on the list? My specific example is having kidney or cannelloni beans instead of just the couple of types mentioned. We usually buy kidney and cannelloni beans and tend to eat them alot, so it would be more convenient if I could use these. I know the diet specifies that there is a reason those particular foods were chosen, and not other similar foods, but do you think it would make a difference.
In general these things may not make that big of an impact, but I'm not overweight, just could stand to lose a few pounds, and am quite short, so losing any amount of weight is an annoyingly difficult process . So I'm going to stick to this diet as best I can.

hi seraph, yes hang in there... sunshine has advised you well. this cycle i lost just 2.4lbs but i will take it a positive way, ie at least i lost and not gained which would have been the case if i was not on this diet.
i have put almost 500$ on diets which were frustrating and hard!!!!! this is cheaper and easier soo its just one of the weeks u'll get over it.
btw i think jazzyjess meant that post for you ( my 'ex')lol if my hubby reads that!!!!!!!!!!!!
welcome tipsy toes... sunshine, web are the best adviser we have here, you have little to loose ,you will achieve that quickly. i have a loooonggg journey ahead so i try to stick to the list as possible though even i would love to have kidney beans, as i'm not familiar with half of the beans mentioned.
jazzy jess .... good you r back how is your back?? 1.2lbs gain is great in 4 days i would have gained 4-6 lbs (that was the first time won't happen again)

Tipsy...Welcome! As far as the beans. I would think that those two types would be OK. I do not know for sure why they chose certain beans but I do know the white beans are helpful when dieting...in general. This is a global group and some have substituted different beans that were available to them. Beans are good for you but do make some folks bloat and therefore the scale is up temporarily. If you are small you can still lose. Do you eat chicken, fish, beef, cottage cheese, eggs? I know that if I include fish, I lose better. I am not tall and am small boned.
Hi zas...yes, I think JJ meant the "ex" post for someone else...haha You do not need that "spoon"

OOPS!! You're right Sunshine - that comment was meant for Seraph;-)
I'm still dealing with pain in my leg/back - it got so bad Sunday, I was pretty immobile. I have an appointment later today with the Dr - hopefully they're going to find something that will help ease the pain.
I'm on day 2 of BC and not eating a lot since I'm not feeling well, but at least trying to eat one thing at each meal.
Could only eat 2 boiled eggs this a.m. for breakfast and had to force that down and just finished an orange for my 2nd meal. I guess since I'm not moving around a lot my body doesn't need much sustenance. I just hope I'll still have some loss after the 10 days.
Have a good week everyone.

Tipsy - Welcome! I am with everyone on holding on and keep following the plan. I have not done BC, only the DG, so will leave Sunshine and others to answer the questions on BC. But I have read it thoroughly as I was going to try a cycle, and it does say
You must not add ANY condiments or sauces which are not specifically listed... (so you might try not using the oil you have been using, and see if that makes a difference);
and it also says that if the diet says to chooose one group from group 1 and one food from group 2, you must eat both foods. I know on the DG we don't have to eat all, because it doesn't say we have to. But the BC specifically says this, so you might make sure you are eating from each group, however many foods it says. That is all I can think of besides one last thought... the reason I have not done the BC is that I am afraid I would overeat eating 6 times a day. It is easier for me to eat 4 meals and eat until satisfied. When I think of eating 6 meals until satisfied, that is going to add a lot more to my daily totals. So I get the impression that we are suppposed to eat a little less than "satisfied", since we get to eat more often on the BC. Now this is my take on it, so I can see how someone could possibly overeat on the BC if they weren't really careful. But like i said, the BC'ers have more experience so try to reevaluate what could possible be curtailing the losses. I know that my weight fluctuates differently on different cycles, and TOM ("that time of the month") definitely contributes to slow losses/ gains for me. But if you hang in there a couple cycles you will give yourself a chance to figure this out and see results. This diet does work. Sometimes we just have to find our "groove".
Jazzy - I am so sorry about your back. I have been having sciatica since Sunday, and it goes down both my legs. It is not very comfortable to sit, stand or lie down when that is going on. Last night I took 2 Aleve and Nyquil (not sure if that was ok ) but I wanted to sleep so I could go to work today. It isn't real bad at the moment, but it is still there so I am trying to move around a little. I keep feeling the need to stretch my legs and back, hoping it will "unpinch"! Hugs to you!

Thanks for the advice. I couldn't get any Navy beans when I went down to the shops today, so I guess I'll be sticking with the cannelloni beans.
Sunshine: I used to eat fish alot, but I think I've worked out why high protein diets I have done over the years have failed; because everytime I eat fish and certain types of seafood, mostly tuna, salmon and (recently discovered) prawns, I get sick unless I eat it with carby foods like bread or pasta. Which sucks cause I love fish and seafood! And I dont like eggs on their own, unless they're in a cheese omlette... But I eat plenty of other types of meat. I have been getting slices from our local deli of leg ham and roast beef. And I'll grill up some pieces of chicken breast tomorrow. And I bought some cottage cheese... But its so plain I think I'll wait till I get to combine it with some fruit... My mother says its good with apple slices.
Webfairy: Portion size is something I no problem with. I have been on quite a few diets over the years and the one that I lost significantly on was when I was calorie counting, because it taught me about how much is too much and just how many calories were in certain types of food. Unfortunatly it means now when i have a bad food day I know exactly how bad I've been... :/

jazzy jess: oh that pain!!!! it really takes your toll, i feel for you,may you get well soon. you r doing great
web: rightly said abt eating from both the food groups. i strictly follow the regime,(except for the condiments, no indian spices r mentioned!!! and since they don't have any fat,and if low fat salad dressing is allowed then of course my spices will fit perfectly!!!) the part i lack in is the water intake!!!!
tipsy: i know eggs taste good with cheese, so whenever it is 2 from group 2 i take egg+ slice cheese as my choice,
also cottage cheese(i make it at home) taste good with nuts or chicken.good luck

Tipsy...Webfairy adds salsa to her cottage cheese.
A doctor told my mother that if you drink pineapple juice with fish it will help you digest it. You might try it some time...I would think fresh pineapple would work even better.
zas...do you make your paneer/cottage cheese with lemon juice? I would like to make home made. Do you use full fat milk?

Did someone say paneer? Sunshine! My mouth is watering now! Indian food is one of my favorite foods ever. I love the cheese they use. I could eat it nonstop. It's like big fat harder-than-cottage-cheese chunks! Yum! I love it with chicken or with veggies. Now I miss Slim! Where is our lovely Indian friend? So I wonder if Kheer is allowed on the diet? LOL This is my 3rd favorite dessert in the world, especially if it is made with Rose Water. Most Indian restaurants don't add it, but I always add some to mine. In my opinion that makes the taste. It seems like condensed milk should be an allowed condiment, too! LOL Ugggh, all the good stuff is forbidden. Now I know I will start a new cycle and be really good, and if I make my goal, I will treat myself to one meal of Indian and some Kheer for another "dessert" meal. Thank you girls for giving me a challenge!
Zas - Please DO give us your recipe for yor cheese! I watched a show on tv where they made different cheeses... some from cow's milk and some from goat's milk. I thought it would be so fun to make my own cheese.

hi sunshine, i make paneer (u know the indian name!!!)
in low fat milk and i use plain white vinegar. lemon can be used too (i think i'm too lazy in squeezing all the lemons) lol.
i boil it completely and once seperated i pass it through a thin strainer. for making our paneer dishes we need to hang it in a muslin cloth!! but in this diet i'm not making any dishes just having it plain, so i just strain it

Thanks for the well wishes - I finally have an appointment tomorrow for a cortizone shot - so I should be feeling better soon!!
Web - sorry to hear you're dealing with the same problem - I can't imagine how this would feel with pain in both legs - yikes! Hope you feel better soon too.
I felt more able to eat my regular portions today - but I did keep the water going, so I think there will still be some loss even though I'm not moving around much.
I work at a private high school in technology, so I'm seated all day at my computer! The great thing is the kitchen is right around the corner from my office so I can get to my food quickly.
I actually had a grilled turkey burger today with some light seasoning and baked beans for my lunch - it was quite tasty - and I didn't finish it completely.
Tipsy had asked whether she should eat from both items if they ask for it and for the most part I think you should, but there have been occasions when I would do 1/2 an apple and 1/2 an orange for 2 items from group 1 and sometimes I've only had 2 items from group 3 when it has said 3 or 4 items and I still lost significant amounts. (of course I have a lot to lose!!
Tipsy - you should try to stick to the diet as closely as you can, but if you feel you need to make a variation, just be prepared for the possibility that it may change your results.

Hi Everyone. Thanks for the advice and motivation - I've kept going, despite being on a business trip. The only think I was naughty with was that I had a glass of wine at the end of the day. I was soooo bored in the hotel and had to get out of there and it had been a long day. Funny thing is, I lived in wine country for 8 years and could easily put away a couple of bottles without feeling it too much, but after doing this diet, after one glass I was on my ear . I even felt hung over this morning! It's insane. It's a good reminder tho of what I must have been putting my body through.
Web and Jess, I hope you both feel better soon. sounds awful - I don't envy you (and here I was complaining about my broken toe! )
I was wondering - does anybody have a good recipe for the 'egg salad' that is listed in group 2? I've never made it before and am scared to incase I do it wrong and mess up the diet.

Hi Seraph; here's what I do when I make egg salad:
4 eggs
1-1/2 teaspoons low fat mayonnaise
1 tablespoon prepared Dijon-style mustard
1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/4 red or white onion, minced
salt and pepper to taste
Sometimes I add celery in it for variation and I prefer the white onions. I add the seasonings and it hasn't affected my weight loss.
This is for 2 servings of egg salad!!

HI Tipsy,
I too have considered taking the MV - haven't started yet, but I will and let you know if it affects anything - it really shouldn't though. Only thing I can think of is if it's high in iron it might help you be more constipated

Hi gals...unless you need iron...you could buy the multivitamin without iron. The "senior's" versions often contain no iron. I buy mine at the whole food store so that it is easier to absorb.

Hey everyone. Reading the posts and I think the multivitamin idea is a good one. I think it probably stresses your body slightly to be on diet, and with all the water we drink, may be leeching out some of the good stuff we need. I'm all for MVs
End of third cycle yesterday and I lost a whole...... drumroll... 2.8 pounds
Nevertheless, as you all said at least the trend is downward. I'm going to try extra hard this cycle. I'll be away on days 7 and 8 writing exams so I don't know how well it'll go, but I'm not taking a break and have started day one.
Hope you're all well.xx

Thanks Zas and Sunshine. I actually feel better about it today. Didn't take a break, am starting day 2 today and am getting into the *focus* for my exams (they're really important professional exams so can't afford not to do well). In a way I'm glad I'm on this diet now because I know during exam time it's always soooo tempting to reward yourself with sweets and yummies. But this in a way is helping me feel a little more in control of what I'm doing. I also did day 3 of my couch-to-10k running (or in my case, hobbling) program. Oowwwweeee! But hopefully in 13 weeks I'll be able to run 10 km. Yay. Have a goodweekend everyone! Happy eating.

So this is the second day onBC and I have already lost2.6lbs of my 4 cheat pounds! Only 1.4 to go!
I am having second thoughts about my menue that I made out the first day I printed out the sheets . It seems that I can change the meal arrangement around for the day so I can have 2 from group 2 in the morning first meal instead of 2 from group1 which is all fruit.
Now I did do fine having my fruit first yesterday because I had eggs and cashews 2 hours later. BUt starting the day with protein seems to work better for me in the long run. This way at 10:00 I will only eat 1/2 a grapefruit and 1/2 an apple.
But lunch was going to be just veggies and I think I shoul readjust that or I will be in the " I wanna eat my left arm" mode by my 4th meal today!
JUst posting my thought,rambling.
So how is it going for you ZAS ,seraph and webfairy?
Hope everyone is doing well on BC!
Have a nice day

50 - You may want to just see if you can make it through this time and chalk the experience up to learning! - Oops I reread what you wrote and I see you're just talking about switching the order of your day, not starting over!!
Chewing some sugarless gum or having a diet drink, tea or coffee may help you get through until your next meal.
I have found that even if I short change myself on a meal, I usually can make it to the next meal.
You're absolutely right though - starting the morning off with the protein meal seems to be the best. It sets the day for me - I use the fruit only and vege only meals for my snacks. On those days you get 2 or more from group 4 is a treat; you can combine fruit protein and veges!!

50..I second Jess and Oko!!!
These plans work with your body and it is VERY important to start the day with a protein meal (at least for MY body type) or else I also want to eat the wall paper off the walls in an hour or two. The fruit and veggie meals are my snack meals as well on BC.
You all have such great advice! I love that about this wonderfully supportive, fun and compassionate group here...lots of wisdom shared.
These plans teach us very quickly things about our bodies that we have not understood or ignored for years!!! I am amazed at how much we learn to listen to our bodies and see what makes us function well and how quickly we "hit the wall" when we put in the wrong fuel or skip meals. That is why these plans teach us to make lifestyle changes that work for US and OUR BODY and our schedule. We are all different...but eating right for a cycle makes us realize that what we were doing was not working and that there is a healthier way of eating!
My 2 cents...lol

Yes, without protein my first meal I have a hard time. I am glad we can choose which order we eat our foods in, for sure! I have been on the BC one day now (today is my second) and I am already down 1.5 lbs. Woohoo! I knew this would help get my metabolism going again. I think I am doing great on the portion sizes, which was what I was worried about. On the DG I get to eat enough so I am not hungry, so I was worried about smaller portions sizes on the BC. But since we get to eat more often, it wasn't a problem at all. It IS a lot more work for me to make stuff and plan out my own meals (waaaaa I am so spoiled bu the DG), but I actually like the combination of foods I get to choose better. I really am happy I tried the BC. I wasn;t going to weigh myself this morning, but I was so curious I couldn't stand it. Now I will try to wait until Thursday (but I will probably end up peeking).
Keep up the good work, gals!

Hello :)
I'm about to begin BC (for the first time)... on the 11th, after my trip to Eat Well of course! I have not done the other FL4I sections...
A little background... I'm 16, soon to be 17. I'm curious to see if age will be a factor at all. I have sustained a healthier lifestyle since December and have lost 26 lbs (20 of those in the first few weeks... awful plateau.) I currently reside at the not-so-awful weight of 166 (at 5'7, eh.) I'm wondering if the fact that I've been dieting will hinder my results from BC... but only testing it will tell, huh?
Anyway, I look forward to trying this diet out and getting to know some of you.
Cheers,
Becca

Hi Becca - welcome to the forum and to the BC diet.
First off congratulations on your weight loss and having the perserverance to keep going - you don't have too far to go!
I don't think you'll have too much of a problem with the BC provided you follow the guidelines of the diet - since you're so close to normal weight - you may not see the significant losses some of us have had - but remember any loss is a good loss and you're learning to make healthier choices, so it will be time well spent.
The important thing is to follow the diet and drink lots of water!!!
I just finished my BC cycle and lost 5 lbs - not too bad. I'm very happy with my loss this cycle, since I haven't been very active.

And you're right, I don't have much to go... Only a few pounds, actually. I'm not blessed with the skinny genes, but my mother and father are very athletically built. I have high muscle mass, but I don't know my fat%. I would probably look sickly below 145-150. So my goal was 140, but I'll be happy at 150 :)
Another question... do you think it's bad to do intense exercise instead of walking? I'm doing a mix of Insanity and my own mix at the gym. I don't think just walking will do much for me. The water won't be a problem for me, I love drinking water. I kicked sodas and all other beverages (aside from the occasional glass of milk and tea.)
I'm just hoping to drop a few to look better in my new clothes for my date ;)
Strawberries... so many strawberries to come! I'm stoked. I shall be starting tomorrow!
50: How do you pronounce that? Daveqah. (Dave-kah), (Dahv-qah)? And awesome about the matching weights I'm not too unhappy here now, though... these dang thighs!

Heeellllooo beautiful (and soon to be skinny people)! Welcome Becca. You'll find writing on this forum helps loads with motivation etc. The ladies on here are all my personal life savers
Sooo... the exams were ok i think. I've never been so terrified in an exam. The last one was the rough one - only about 20% of people pass it. But for the first time ever I feel like I actually deserve to pass - I did the work. I'll only know in August once i've submitted my thesis. Thanks for the well wishes tho - it meant a lot
The diet.... weeeellllll..... I wasn't so good. The actual days of the exams I was so terrified I didn't want to eat anything - I had a few nuts. But at night afterwards I had quite big meals at the hotel because I suddenly realised how starving I was . I've just got home and feel like the scale and I are standing on opposite sides of a deserted town in the wild wild west with a stray tumble weed and the music from 'the good, the bad and the ugly' playing in the background... "ooooowweeeooooweeeooooooo... waah waaah waaaaah"
So, I've decided to start a cycle again and not weigh until I'm done.
The rest of you seem to be doing really well. I'm sooo jealous! Starting with protein in the morning seems like a good idea - I never thought of that!
Have a great weekend girls!

i am on dg now!!! last 2 cycles of bc did'nt go to well!!(i should have changed my menu, and not cheated on those little things) anyway missing on my own choices!!!! have fish and shrimp on the menu, and yesterday could not get any in the market afternoon meal was.. milk and peanuts. lets see if hubby gets something by evening!!!
on bc in 1 hrs notice or immediately i would alter it to something which was available in the house, here u have to be prepared beforehand , next time will have to ensure that this does not happen

Congrats Seraph on finishing your exams...hoping for an excellent result! As for the diet...all I can do is sing to you cowboy style she's" back in the saddle again...ooohhh..she's back in the saddle again" ..heehe
Welcome Becca...you will find lots of help here with your questions! Have a good cycle!!
zas...on DG you can substitute a protein for a protein(veg for veg, fruit for fruit, nut for nut etc) in a pinch..so have chicken, canned tuna, cheese etc in place of the shrimp/fish until you can get to the market. It is best not to make this a regular practice but you can substitute when you have a situation like this.
I sign up for milk and have chai or latte with lots of warm milk
