I am only doing the normal FL4I diet.

Does it work faster than the normal diet? Can you give me an example of it please?

i'm not familiar with the normal FL4I diet, but my weight has not melted off like i thought it would, but then again i am only half way through.  I started this past Saturday at 138, and today i weighed at 134.  so that was about 4 pounds lost after 4 full days of the diet.  i have also tried the fat loss 4 idiots diet, and have gotten the same results in the same time frame.

my bad - i read FL4I and did not even realize you were talking about Fat Loss for Idiots!!  i've tried that one as well and so far i do not see a big difference in the amount of weight i have lost on Beyond Calories, but i personally prefer FL4I, as the meals are more varied, and its only 4 meals per day, versus Beyond Calories, which is 6, which has been hard for me to squeeze in.

Hello,

I am already a member of the FL4I, but I want to purchase the Beyond Calories. Does that mean I have to pay again and an additional 16.95 or is there anyway I could purchase only the Beyond Calories? Does anyone mind giving me an example of what are H.S Foods?

Is there anyone who could help me? I would appreciate your reply.

Thanks.

I am surprised that I haven't yet received a reply! Usually, people respond quite quick.

Hi Mikesmith

I suppose people didnt reply because , like me, I was not aware of this ' beyond calories' you were talking about.

I have been back opnto the FL4I web site as though I was a new customer, and now see what you mean. I went through the purchasing section and it looks like you have to buy the WHOLE package + the new bit -again( $55.95 or £29.50 plus VAT for UK purchase).

I too would be interested in what this 'new section' gives you as it seems you cant just buy that bit, even if you are already a member, like we are.

I have read some of the 'blog' about it, and get the feeling they would move you from eating 4 meals a day to say 6 or 7 smaller portion meals, but think the food choices/combinations would be very similar as it is still part of FL4I.

Sorry I cant help you any further

Hi,

I bought the whole package in a moment of weakness. Really, REALLY not worth the extra $$$.  :nono:  I'm at work now, but when I get home I'll post the basic meal outline, assuming that's OK with the admins here.

It's actually not much different from the normal plan other than you eat at least 6 times a day. There are still different food categories (PRO, CHO, VEG) to choose from and you combine the categories in different ways to make your meals.

I have yet to try this diet since I've got an acute case of analysis paralysis. Maybe someday I'll commit to something. Yes, I know. Very sad.

When I purchased the fatloss4idiots plan online the "beyond calories" version was not available and it seems I can't purchase it separately.

I'd like to know if anyone is using the beyond calories version and if you like it.  I'd like to know if it's worth it and if it has more choices on foods because if it's worth it I'll just purchase the plan again along with the beyond calories add on.

Thanks

Well, it's day #7 and things SEEM to be going well. I have not weighed myself but I do feel thinner, full of energy, and I am sleeping well (aside from the trips to the bathroom from all the H2O!!!!). There is one thing that is concerning me though. My poop is YELLOW!!!!! Has anyone one else had this happen? If one looks on the internet for possible reasons for yellow poop, one can REALLY get concerned. I am hoping that this is just a temporary "stage" for some of us on this diet.

Please let me know if you have had this problem. Thanks to all!

Thanks Nir.....I appreciate the suggestion however, I have been pretty good with the fruits and veggies for the last year (give or take those "unexamined" days!).   Most of the foods on this diet have been a regular part of my eating pattern...possibly with the exception of the nuts and bacon....I shied away from them. That leads me to believe it is not the foods in themselves but possibly the carb-protein shift. I don't think that most people normally eat only "carb" or "protein" meals..it usually is a combination. Does anyone have an idea???? Again, thanks.

RE:  Beyond Calories

Today is my 4th day on the "Beyond Calories".  To my dismay, I haven't lost any weight!  I've been adhering to the guidelines, with the exception of eating 6 meals per day:

1)  Been drinking 64oz of water/day (YUCK!).

2)  Have been walking two miles/day.

3)  Only use seasoning salt and sometimes lemon juice to season foods.

4)  Usually only 4 meals -- Yesterday 5 -- Hopefully today 6.

5)  I have been drinking coffee with coffee cream, but the diet says "It's allowed".

Here's my menu over the past 4 days:

Day 1
Apples, Orange
Cottage Cheese, Pastrami
Shrimp, Broccoli
Lettuce, Bell Pepper, Cucumber, Cashews

Day 2
Pineapple, Grapes
Cottage Cheese, Roast Beef
Skinless Chicken, Lima Beans
Cottage Cheese, Pastrami

Day 3
Cottage Cheese, Pastrami
Lima Beans, Pineapple
Lettuce, Bell Pepper, Cucumber, Chicken
Cottage Cheese, Roast Beef
Shrimp, Broccoli, Cashews

Day 4 (today's schedule)
Cantelope, Orange
Scrambled Eggs, Shrimp
Lettuce, Tomatoe, Cucumber, Bell Pepper
Scrambled Eggs, Pastrami
Lettuce, Tomatoe, Cucumber, Bell Pepper
Roast Beef, Navy Beans

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Hi

I am on day 6 and just noticed it yesterday. I am thinking it is the change from carbs to proteins because I never ate very much protein until this diet. It is funny, I wanted to ask this question under general on the forum but was too shy.

Thanks

Thanks Rainbow! What a relief..... like I said if one researches this "problem" all sorts of nasty conditions can be the cause. I could not believe that I coincidentally began to have liver problems that I was not aware of. Your similar experience allows me some peace of mind that all is OK! Thanks.

Yeah, I know that it is not something that we really like talking about, but, what the heck....everybody poops!!!

Hey  junaluska

If I do not see an improvement soon, I may post this on the general discussion forum because there are quite a few who have been on this diet for months. My husband and I started this 7 days ago and he is not having the pale or yellow stools. I know what you mean though I started researching and since my gallbladder is removed I stated thinking liver. One web site stated something like if the liver is not functioning properly the proteins are not being utilized. yikes,

Lets keep each other posted, okay.

Today is my first all veggie day so we will see how that turns out:smile:

Good job Rainbow!

I am going on vacation wenesday and won't be back until the 15th of March...we're taking a cruise and OF COURSE I doubt I will hold fast and firm to the diet! I hope to stick with meat and veggies and some fruit...taking it very easy on the dairy and carbs and booze! We'll see how THIS goes. I stopped pooping the last few days (this is not that unusual for me) so I added flax seed to my foods yesterday and got some results! (I don't believe I'm proudly announcing this fact). The color is a little better (very little) so I am still concerned but hopeful that I am headed in the right direction. I don't really understand much about the gallbladder and how this may influence the "situation". Feel free to enlighten me. Personally, many years ago, in my late 20's - early 30's I abused alcohol. Although, directly after, and thru out the following 15 years, I have been told that my liver function is normal. Well, I really hope so, but I am always a little sensitive to ANY indication that something could be wrong.

Keep up the good work and please keep me posted!

Hi junaluska

Well. I had several responses, think some may have been offended but it is a natural process.

Mine is a little more normal today I think it is body detox and I think that is what several basically posted. So....I think we are okay if it does not change you may want to talk with the doc. With the gallbladder from what I understand it can possibly be a blocked bile duct, also keep in mind when we google this stuff altho helpful at times it can make your mind go wild places.

Hope you have a great trip:palms:

Well, I've decided to keep this post going for anyone interested in "Beyond Calories"....

I'm now down 5 lbs in 6 days!!

The only problem, I seem to be losing my appetite and no longer want to eat.

All I want is coffee/cream.

My first meal today included 2 Tbls of Egg Beaters and about 1 oz of Keilbaska Sausage.  I couldn't seem to force myself to eat it.

My second meal included 1/2 cup of Pinto Beans (which I love) and a slice of Roast Beef deli meat because I'm too lazy to cook.  Again, had to pretty much scarf down because I wasn't hungry.

My third meal (still too lazy to cook, and still not hungry), I had to force myself to eat about 3 tbls of Pinto Beans and 1 slice of Pastrami.

It's 7:47pm, and I still have 3 meals to go that will not get eaten tonight.

Have drank 32oz of water so far (YUK!), and didn't go for my daily walk.

Hi, Nina:

There are actually two FatLoss4Idiots (FL4I) diets.

The first is using the "Diet Generator" which predefines which meals you eat, and the second is called "Beyond Calories" which is what I'm on.

Beyond Calories

I'm pretty much the lone ranger on the "Beyond Calories" diet, but I actually like it because I can eat whatever I want from a food group menu.  On this diet, you're "suppose" to lose an enormous amount of weight in 10 days.  You must eat 6x/day (at least two hours apart), and half the portions that you would generally eat in a meal.  You must also drink 8-10 glasses of water/day, and your choice of condiments and seasonings are very limited.

Diet Generator

The FL4I using the "Diet Generator" is slighty different.  Using a pre-defined list, you must select the foods you prefer to eat.  The Diet Generator then generates a daily meal plan defining what you can eat.  Can't remember, but you're suppose to lose 9lbs in 11 days, or 11lbs in 9 day (sorry!).  I believe you must eat the 4 meals/day that have been defined for you.  You must also drink 8-10 glasses of water/day, and your choice of condiments and seasonings are not as restrictive as "Beyond Calories".

If you go to the last page of the "FL4I - General Discussion", you will see all of the current members, the majority of which are using the "Diet Generator".

If you want to purchase the diet, go to http://www.fatloss4idiots.com.  It looks like the price has been reduced to 50% off.

The regular FL4I using the Diet Generator is $20.  If you want to add the Beyond Calories, it's an additional $19.

Good luck.  Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Daily Update for 2/26/08....

Still holding at the 5lb loss.  Today is my 7th day

Haven't been sticking to the diet very well, likely because I'm coming down with the Flu and don't feel well.  Haven't been very hungry and, therefore, have not been eating the required 6 meals per day.  Yesterday, I only ate too small meals which I forced down.

Also, haven't been walking as I usually do (3-4x/week), and haven't been drinking the water that I should.

I'm hoping today will be much better.  Have only eaten two meals so far.

I've been doing Beyond all month. Haven't tried overly hard on the weekends. No beer 3-4 days per week. Eating what it calls for generally. Exercise daily either walk or weights for 1 hr. Down 13 lbs and 2-3 inches on my waist. For not being religious to this diet 3-4 days per week, I am very happy.

Wow, Mick!!  That's wonderful.

I haven't posted recently under this forum -- generally the FL4I General Discussion.

I'm not doing to well on this diet right now.  Primarily, because I'm sick with the flu, I'm buried in several inches of snow here in Michigan, and I'm having a very difficult time eating 6 meals per day.

Although I love the Beyond Calories diet because of the food choices, I'm just not structured enough to eat that many times per day, plus my schedule doesn't permit it.

So, I'm considering switching to the regular FL4I starting tomorrow where I'm only required to eat 4 meals per day.

I've still lost 5lbs total during my first cycle.

I absolutely love hearing success stories as it helps to keep me motivated.

Thanks for sharing.

I may not eat exactly what it calls for. I may mix 2 proteins and 2 vegetables into 1 meal rather than 2 seperate ones. Still get about what I should but in 4 or 5 meals and gets a little more variety as well. Am now 206 from 222. That's 2  lbs less than when I quit smoking 13 months ago. This is a neat diet plan with lots of flexibility.

Thank you, Anyar, for starting this post.  I was on Beyond Calories for 11 days and lost 9 lbs.  I have taken a week off as I was visiting in-laws and celebrating a 16th year wedding anniversary.  I didn't want to worry about or feel guilty about what I was eating.

Now it is time to start again.  I am beginning Day 1 today eating canteloupe & blueberries for meal one.  YUMMY!

My favorite meals from the first time around include:

 - Eggs & pastrami

- cabbage, onions & tomatoes  (sounds wierd, but turned out delicious with salt and garlic added to spice it up.)

- Roast Beef and cream cheese rolls  (the diet says cheese slices, but I found that the small individual packages of cream cheese are less calories then a cheese stick.  And these rolls feel like I am cheating.)

I agree with the other posts in that I am not hungry on this diet.  Actually, Day 1 last time I got hungry, but it was time to eat another meal so it was no big deal.

I started this with my mother who only had 10 lbs to lose.  She consistently lost 1/2 lb. each day.  I, on the other hand, had only lost 1.5 lbs in 3 days.  I started taking digestive tablets with each meal and found that suddenly the weight started falling off.  I'm wondering if that was part of the problem that caused me gain weight in the first place.

I have another 50 lbs to lose, so am looking forward to losing more weight.

Hi Dira.  I have never tried the original Fat Loss 4 Idiots so I don't know much about it.  My mother brought me Beyond Calories because she wanted to do it together.  I lost 9 lbs in for 11 days.

Beyond Calories is all about food combining and increasing your metabolism by eating every 2-3 hours.

You are given a table with a column of fruits, a column of proteins, a column of vegetables, and 4th column that includes everything from columns 1,2, & 3.

For example, Day 1's meals are as follows:

Meal 1  2 fruits  /  Meal 2  2 Proteins   /  Meal 3  1 Protein and 1 anything on the lists    /   Meal 4  3 Vegetables and 1 Protein   /   Meal 5  2 Fruits   /   Meal 6  2 Fruits

You can see that Day 1 has a lot of fruits.  Other days will have more vegetables and other days more proteins.

I didn't get hungry on this diet except on Day 1, but when I did I looked at the clock and it was time to eat another meal so it was no big deal.

Hope this helps!

Hey, Renea:

Sorry I haven't responded sooner but been offline trying to finish developing a wedding website for my brother.

Congratulations on the weight loss!!

Beyond Calories became a little frustrating for me because my schedule doesn't allow me to eat 6 meals/days.  Just too busy, and realized that I'm not a very time conscious person.  However, I did lose 5lbs.  I believe had I stuck to the water drinking (YUCK!), and ate the 6 meals vs. the 3-4/day I was having, it might have proven a little more successful.

You mentioned you were taking digestive tablets.  What exactly are those?

By the way, our names are really close.  Mine is "Rayna".

Wow!  Your name really is close to mine.  :)

Digestive Enzymes are the materials your stomach makes naturally to digest your food.  That is, your body is supposed to make them naturally, but often people will take enzyme supplements to help aid in their digestion because for some reason the body isn't making them and needs help.

You can purchase them at any healthfood store or most anyplace that sells vitamins.  It's all natural.  Not diet pills or anything.

Yogurt contains one such digestive aid called Acidophilus.  That's why they talk about eating yogurt to help calm your stomach.

I'm beginning to wonder if my body was just not naturally creating all the enzymes I need to digest my food, so my body wasn't getting the nutrients it needed.  That would explain why I was hungry ALL THE TIME.  The body could only naturally process a little bit at a time based on its current supply of enzymes and the rest was just shipped on to the intestines to do their thing.  Increased eating, meant increased calories, meant increased weight.

Eating the Beyond Calories way and taking the Digestive Enzymes with each meal I am not hungry and am losing the weight.  I even walked through Sam's Club during samples time and was not even tempted to sample anything.  When you are full, you are full and don't want anything.  It felt GREAT!

My biggest advice is to plan out your meals in advance.  Life is a lot of food on the go and if you plan in advance you will have in mind which of the six meals you can take with you to eat on the run.

By the way, like Rayna I couldn't eat six meals a day.  I ended up with 5 meals a day because of my schedule.

The purpose is to keep the metabolism going so any less then 5 meals a day is going to be a hinderence to the affectiveness of the program.

Apartian:  I know what you're talking about!  I actually have some.  They are Papaya chewable enzymes.  Someone at the GNC Health food store convinced me to buy them.  I'm a sucker! I'll buy anything.  Never tried them, but I do take Acidophilus (2billion CFU) daily because of chronic female problems.  Maybe I'll start chewing the enzymes.

My primary concern with Beyond Calories and just dieting, in general, is that I just can't eat 6 meals daily.  The most I could get in were 4.  Plus I couldn't remember to eat every 2 1/2 hours.  I also wasn't drinking water the way I should, and not exercising faithfully.

I work from home.  I'm behind a computer every waking moment.  My family gets so mad because I'm always behind this computer.  As a result, I'm on my butt all day.  I do try to get out to the mall to walk.

Rae_of_sunshine:  Too funny!  Apartian's name is Renea, mine is Rayna (nick name Rae) and yours is Rae_of_sunshine (go figure!).

Have you been sticking to the diet faithfully, walking daily and drinking all the water?  Also, what I'm beginning to find out is when the diet says..."eat half of what you normally would", it took me a while grasp this concept.  I think that's why I was full all the time and I wasn't losing as fast.

As far as the digestive enzymes, mine are from GNC and they're called "Papaya Enzyme".  They're pretty good tasting (only had 2 since I bought them).  My only concern, these are very sweet so I wonder if the Sucrose and Dextrose would have an impact on the diet.  Meanwhile, here is a link to GNC.  Don't know if they're nationwide:

You have got the idea.  Except mine are a little more heavy duty as they have enzymes to digest proteins, fats, milk, starches, etc.  Here's the link.

http://www.naturessunshine.com/us/products/catalog/product/default.aspx?stocknum=1836

I also work from home on the computer a fair amount and have found I just have to set my appointment calendar alarm or I forget to eat as well.  I am able to manage 5 meals a day, but cannot do 6.

I also have a problem getting motivated to do the exercise thing.  Sometimes I will tell myself I cannot watch my TV shows unless I spend the commercials lifting weights or doing crunches.  Other times I get on the exercise bike while I watch.  And other times I got into the exercise room, turn on the TV and lay down on the couch.  Next thing I know it is 11pm and time for bed.  Welcome to real life.  :)

Thanks again for posting this site.  It's fun talking to you and your frustrations are shared so it makes it easier to handle them when they hit me the next time.  I just think of you!

Thanks.

I'll check out the link and likely order some.  As I mention before the digestive enzymes that I have contain too much Sucrose and Dextrose, which may impact my diet.

Take care, and keep us posted on your weight loss.

Hi to all here:grin:.

I have tried the Beyond Calories diet twice now and have lost about 3kg (6lbs) both times, but when I started the next 11 day cycle I only lost about 700grams so I got a bit disheartened and didn't go back.  I actually liked the diet but like the rest of you trying to fit in the 6 meals was a challenge.

I am suppose to be on the Diet genreator plan now but where as I found the BC diet has too many meals to consume i find the DG does not contain enough and there wasn't enough veg for me and I found I was getting a little constipated:crying:.

I am at the crossroads now and I am unsure of what to do.  I haven't been :pig:ing out and I have actually tried to follow the rules of both programs......tomorrow I will weigh and see what has occurred.

Mick I might even follow your method you sound like you are doing really well, congrats on what you have lost so far.

Hi Rayna and Renae....Rayna thanks for introducing this thread.  Look forward to seeing how you all go.

Hey, Will68:

Thanks for joining in.

I'm on my 2nd cycle.

The 1st was Beyond Calories (lost 5 lbs), just too many meals.

The 2nd is using the Diet Generator, which is much better, and I'm able to stick with it.  Now on my 6th day.  Have decided not to weigh in until my last day on the cycle (I like surprises!!).

Unlike Beyond Calories, which offers lots of fiber I, too, was very concerned about the lack of fiber using the Diet Generator.  Fortunately, there are fiber substitutes that can be used.

In the past I have used a GNC colon cleanse product that is very good with all natural products.  I have chosen to do this again for the length of time on this diet.  You might want to check out some natural products at a health food store.  But, by all means, stay away from laxatives, particularly over a prolonged period of time.

My other concern about the diet are the number of times I'm required to eat fish.  Having read several studies, it is suggested that women eat no more than 2-3 servings per week.  It actually makes me wonder who devised this diet.

Anyway, hang in there.  Don't give up.  Try the diet generator but just find a fiber substitute.

Thanks for the feedback Rayna:grin:.I think sometimes you get caught in a rut and this weightloss business is very frustrating:angry:.  I am weighing tomorrow if I'd seen the Diet Generator through I would have been looking more forward to it.  Like I said in my last post i haven't really gone crazy and started eating the wrong foods I have basically stuck to the same foods but not eaten the 4 meals.
Anyway I'll check back tomorrow.  Have a great Sunday all, mine is nearly finished and it's been a busy one.
Goodnight from my end of the world.Will68

I just wanted to throw this out there.  I have a package of sirloin steaks in the fridge and they are very lean.  My husband will be throwing them on the grill this evening.  This is my fruit day so If I sliced one up and put in on bread for my sandwich with lettuce, onion and ketchup do you think that would work as the meat for the sandwich.  Just wondering.  A hot steak sandwich would be so wonderful.

I don't see why not. To me it is no differnent than having a roast beef sandwich and I know that's allowed. Of course...seee my general post and you might not want to listen to me .

 Hello everyone!

So I'm debating on giving the Beyond Calories a try. I'm on day #9 of my 2nd cycle using the Diet Generator and I am down 7 lbs. I lost 5 the first cycle and have only lost 2 more on my present cycle. :dizzy: I'm a bit disappointed! I have been reading everyone on the main forum talk about how well they are all doing and I can't help but throw myself a little pity party when I think of how badly I want to loose more than I have! I also have a hard time eating more than 4 meals per day, but the BC seems appealing to me because it looks like there are more meal choices and I am so bored with the DG's meal options.

So has anyone out there stuck with this and seen good results? Any honest feedback is greatly appreciated!

Thanks a bunch all!                                       Sarah

Bunny...I think if it is very lean...you will be just fine...similar to roast beef.  Enjoy!! Infact, you could toast the bread and serve your steak over toast like a steak sandwich is in the restaurants...with a few slices of tomato on the side.
