| I just finished my second round. After my first 3 cheat days I gained three pounds which I eventually lost but have gained back one. GRRRRR. I did cheat - a little - here and there, guess I need to be more careful. I am hoping it has something to do with it almost being that time of month. That or it is my thyroid refusing to let me lose anymore. I need to be careful on these cheat days so I can lose my last 6 pounds before my Disney cruise.

Hi all!!!
Well I weighed yesterday morning and was down another 2lbs, so it's coming off slowly but surely!!!
I wasn't supposed to be on cheat days until today but last night I just caved in and pigged out at this lovely restaurant I was in!!!
Never mind...
Now are my 3 cheat days and I am hoping to not go totally nuts on them, just eat normally and enjoy myself, but not go too much OTT...
A part of me sort of looks forward to them being over again so that I can get back on track again! How weird!
Anyway, good weekend to everyone and bacK on Monday for another 11 days!
Take care
Antonia

Hi!
This morning was my weigh in and......drumroll please......was down another couple, bringing by grand total to 22 lbs! I'm very happy, especially since I broke another "barrier" weight. I'm starting my three days off and plan to enjoy them -- not go too wild -- and not weigh myself until the end of the next 11 days.
Hope everyone else is having continued success.

Hi Amber,
I'd love to know about the other site. I just completed my first 11 days and I lost about 71/2 lbs. I am very happy with that. I am acutually ready to get to my next 11 days but I will indulge slightly!!

I am weird too then. I am on my days off. So far not doing a bad as I feared I might, but neither am I being all that good. Birthday went great and my wife really was tickled.
I am about 6 pounds from a barrier as well, so here is hoping to success to us all!

I'm a rules guy. Either I obey them all, or all are subject to go so I have not tried this. Let us know how it goes for you!

Amber Yes, I've eaten sugar free jello with cool whip when I felt the need for something sweet in the evening -- it didn't seem to interfere with the weight loss and it did wonders filling the gap!

Hello all. I'm another newbie here. I just finished my first 11-day segment on FL4I. I lost 6 pounds. I'm happy. I did follow the plan very closely. Maybe ate too much because I never really got hungry--I think that's why this can be done. I did walk 45 min every day but two. I think that's a key point as I could feel myself getting stronger and actually feeling lighter. I did have a glass or wine per night. I maybe didn't drink quite enough water.
Now that I'm on cheat days I have to say I have no real urges. I found a Starbucks Frappacino in the frig and I can't believe how sweet it tastes and how little appeal that offers.
Felt a little woozy up til the day before fruit and veg day. Then fine. F and V day was actually no problem and I now feel much more satisfied (if not full-up) on smaller servings.
Even after a mere 11 days this has changed the way I think of food. Instead of a great daily pleasure it's more like--well OK, time to put some gas in the tank.
I'm already looking forward to the next cycle. I going to try to lose about 25 more pounds and get close to my prior athlete-days weight. This is the first diet plan I've ever tried that makes that seem possible.
For those just starting--this can be done and it works. Try to do the walking, you'll feel better. Good luck.
And one huge thank you to all contributors to this thread--I probably would not have tried if I hadn't found this spot.

I actually forgot to eat today because I was not hungry. Should I try to get the 4 meals in and have one later tonight (about 9 o'clock) or should I just skip it? Was wondering if any one else had the same problem?

I felt the same way. I did a search on the internet after I saw the advertisement for FL4I and I was impressed that there were real people that had real results with this program. Welcome to the forum and Good Luck!

my guess is that you should try and get all four meals in. if you are not hungry, just make them small. off for my walk.

I agree with Doc-b (welcome, and where did that name come from?) He said that he now thinks of food as fuel and not the daily high. It is nice to be released from food, eh?
And because it is fuel, I would try to put all four in on regular basis, but for me when I have gotten late at night and was not hungry, I skipped it. I think you need four regular meals to keep the furnace burning, but once in a while is not a big deal.

Hello!
Back on the 3rd series now, what I have done this time is chosen the regular options and changed any "ham" or "tuna" or "chicken" for veggie options like nuts or lo fat cheese or cottage cheese.
I was getting a bit bored with tofu and soy milk at every meal lol!!
Anyway, so far it is going well, though yesterday I totally lost the plot and ate like a pig
Don't know what happened there, I just couldn't stop, I mean I ate more or less what was on my menu, but I overate so badly, I had a stomach ache after. I think I am making the food too tasty lol!
Anyway, so far today I have done much better, I still have to drink my water, which I always struggle with, and I have to do the walking, which I also always struggle with, but I am determined to put in a really good serie this time and lose a bit more than usual.
So far I have been losing 2lbs every 11 days and compared to everyone else it's not very much, but then I haven't been doing it properly at all (I hardly ever do the walking and I drink alcohol at time which I know I shouldn't) (I don't just mean 1 glass here ;-))
So I'm looking forwards to maybe losing like 4lbs this time instead of just 2... that would bring me up to a total of 8lbs and maybe it would start showing, because it doens't show at all so far to anyone but me, and the girl at work who always laughs at me for my weight still takes the piss out of me, and says that I'll never do it, etc... I am just so determined to show that she is wrong and I CAN do what I set my mind too!!!
Take care all, and good dieting!!
Love,
Antonia

Hi Everyone -- and welcome "newbies"
I'm back after my three days off -- I always enjoy my days off but look forward to starting up again on Monday. I had company from out of town so I did splurge over the weekend -- I'm not going to weigh myself until the cycle is over because I know that I gain on the days off, but then lose it plus a couple. For my own sanity, I prefer to wait until I know I've lost rather than get discouraged by weighing in after the days off.
I also think about food differently. Bread has always been a weakness for me and, even when I'm allowed, I don't go nuts -- they say that for a diet to be successful it has to be a lifestyle change and I feel that I'm in a new mindset since the I started this diet at the beginning of November.
Continued good luck to all!

I did end up having my late night meal because it was the fruit bowl meal and it was kind of like dessert. I feel wonderful this morning. I have a quite high initial weight loss which I hate to even mention because I know it is mostly water weight. I had already begun a walking plan before starting this diet as my New Year's resolution so it hasn't been as hard for me as some to put in my 45 minutes a day. All I can say is if you are not losing the walking will make a difference. I started walking 30 min.'s a day on Jan. 1 and when I measured this morning (mind you I did not go on a diet until 3 days ago) I was down a total of 5 inches and 4 lbs., that was in one month and I had not changed what I ate. So I know it's hard but start walking slowly. Start at 20 minutes a day and work up. You will be thankful in the long run.

Dobie -- thanks for the welcome (doc is a title earned by going to school for a long time. i'm not a physician, a scientist).
2nd cheat day and i'm surprised but no cravings for anything. i did have a beer. otherwise i'm pretty much sticking to 4 smallish meals. i've gotten hooked on the ease of preparing the idiot proof meals. what could be easier than "cottage cheese." good luck all, keep walking.

hello! I'm new here and yesterday was my first day. I am just so worried about this. I guess what I really should say is that I am hopping to lose 45 pounds and I am going on a trip in July so I would really want to lose it by then. I am just crossing my fingers and hoping to do it in time. Or at least 35 o 40 of it by then. What if I add some add'l exercise? Does anyone think that will help? Any and all advise is greatly appreciated!

I am kind of surprised, Antonia. One moment I think you are determined, but then the next it sounds like you aren't quite into it.
I wish you the best and I hope you get the 4 lbs. I think losing is adictive. Once I lost a size, I really found it easier to keep it up. Best of luck to you and I hope you can phase into drinking less and exercising!

Penny, I'm not familiar with how exercise fits in with FL4I, but my FAQ on it will give you an overview of the value of exercise in a weight loss program.

I knowwwwwww that is the story of my life. One minute I am super motivated and the next I just can't be bothered at all.
The thing is I REALLY do want to lose this weight, I hate my body and I hate not being able to buy any clothes in the sales, but I also jkust flip and do stupid things. I also have a problem with making myself sick. For example yesterday I flipped and ate 6 chocolate bonbons (of the Ferrero Rocher type) and then made myself sick out of guilt. I don't know why I do it. It just happens every now and then (I used to make myself sick every day after most meals) and I can't do anything about it.
My main problem is that I live in Barcelona, Spain and all my friends and workmates are slim as anything, you hardly ever see any overweight people here and especially young people. They all seem to be able to eat mostly anything, toast with olive oil, cheese, ham, all sorts of nice dishes... none of them seem to ever really watch what they eat, but none of them put on any weight... Today is someones birthday and she has litterally brought in 3 trays of fresh pastries for everyone. I am going to sit through it with my fruit and soy milk, but a part of me just wants to join in and have some pastries and Champagne with everyone. I don't think I will do it-- sorry, make that I WON'T do it ;-) but it's still hard.
I just have to really focus on what I want, not foodwise but what I want to look like.
I have 3 months to lose 22lbs and if I carry on this slow it's not looking good, so I must get my butt in gear!
I shall try and do my best and stay focused, thanks for the support on this board,
Love

Penny,
You have 22 weeks. 2 lbs a week is very doable, but you are going to have to stay committed. Put up reminders if you feel you will be challenged and just remember that there is nothing now that will feel better than meeting your goal and then getting to indulge a bit on the trip!
As to execise, sure, I think adding will definately help. The question is what can you do? Walking is touted by FL4I as the best fat burning exercise, but anything that just elevates your heart rate is ideal for this. (Look at any cardio machine at the target level of heart rate for fat burning. Same concept here!) Read this:
exercise.about.com/cs/cardioworkouts/l/aa022601a.htm
Anyway, if you walk for 30 minutes, you will do some good. Walking for longer does more good. The key is to find out what gets your heart rate up to the target level and for most of us, brisk walking does it. However, I am a firm believer in building muscle. The more that you build, the more that you burn 7x24 to keep those muscles going.
The point is, eat healthy and exercise will ALL add benefit of one kind or another.

Hi everyone,
I'm so thrilled there's an active board on this diet, support can really equal success in this diet!
I lost 40 lbs. back in September - October on this diet and have kept it off (I gained 4 holiday pounds, but who doesn't?). I took the last few months off to kind of stabilize my weight and take a break. I've had more success this way than pushing myself too hard towards a goal that's far away; my goal is 100 lbs. total loss.
Now I'm rarin' to get back into it. I'm hoping to lose another 40 lbs. this time around. I started at 250...ugh...and am now at 214. I'm tall, so I carry it well, but I'm still in the 'obesity' BMI range and that bugs me.
Keep up the good work everyone! Take it from me, this diet does work and it's possible to keep it off provided you don't get back into your old weight-gaining habits. I've permanently given up the six pizza slices, 12" meatball subs, and half a cheesecake. But if this diet's shown me anything, it's that the human body can survive (comfortably) on a heck of a lot less food than we were used to!
Wish me luck, I'll plug away with the rest of you!

~Jennifer Hi, I am so glad to see someone that has had significant weight loss using this diet. i actually have over 100 lbs. to lose and you give me hope that there might be something that finally works. Thanks for your post. this is only my 4th day and I did cheat a little today but I was amazed by how quickly I seemed to be able to get right back in the saddle. Thanks again! Amber

Welcome indeed, Jennifer! As Scrooge said, "Speak comfort to me, spirit." What was your eating like to maintain during your time off (a few months, right?) Did you keep to four meals and stop at the same point of eating? Did you walk twice a day? Did you eat pizza and any foods but in better quantities? Did you snack or stick to the meals?
I ask because many have asked about maintaining their weight after loss with this diet and you have clearly done so (a four pound gain over the holiday is nothing in my mind) and are now going back for more progress.
So what worked for you in keeping your weight off during the holidays and time off of this eating regimen?
Thank you for your insight.

Hi Amber and Dobie, thanks for the responses!
Amber: good luck, losing 100 lbs. is hard but so worth it! You're working towards more than just dropping 20 lbs. to lose a size, this will help your health and surely improve the quality of your life.
One of the reasons I decided I'd had enough was my blood pressure - it was 150/92 in August and 40 lbs. later was 118/78. And I'm only 26! It's unbelievable how much extra weight can age your body; my doctor said I had the stats of late 30's w/poor diet. That helped turn me right around! My doc's thrilled about my loss and that alone has been a motivating factor in keeping it off.
Dobie: I did several things to maintain my weight loss. While I lost the weight, I looked at each change as more of a lifetime thing vs. temporary weight loss. And instead of changing my whole life all at once (while dieting) and keeping it that way for maintenance, I used changes that I knew I could stick to indefinitely.
Examples of habits I used while maintaining (and also during 3 cheat days):
-High water intake
-STOP eating when satisfied; I never finish a meal at a restaurant now (a good mental technique is reminding yourself that no matter how much of it you eat, you still have to pay for it. Why pay for it in pounds, too?)
-Packing lunch! This was a lifesaver for me, I usually packed similar meals to the diet since they're easy and healthy. I limited myself to only ONE lunch out per week.
-Eat more lean protein & less carbs; my rule of thumb was a 3 to 1 ratio. For example, three eggs and one slice of toast for breakfast (I also have permanently stuck with Oat bread).
-Sticking to the Ten Foods To Avoid list - I gave up breakfast cereals, pizza, chips, and creamy dressings. If I cheat on this list, it was extremely rare (maybe once/month) and I still watched my quantities.
-Any snacks were proteins!!! Usually cottage cheese or a low-fat cheese stick.
-No desserts in the house; only fruit if I've got a sweet tooth. I let myself eat desserts only when we'd go out to dinner as a family (not during my eat-out lunches). I don't buy ice cream, cake mixes, pastries, or any of that junk anymore.
I did try to keep up the four meals per day, but I worked more towards eating the right foods in the right quantities. I felt this was a more effective lifetime technique and I guess it worked.
I did not, unfortunately, keep up with the exercise regimen. I have incorporated the little changes, such as parking farther out or taking the stairs, but my schedule doesn't allow for regular exercise.
Hope this helps answer your questions!
Good luck! ~Jennifer

Well, i hope everyone has had a good WL4I today and are keeping up their exercise. Tomorrow is my fruit and veggies day and I am wondering how hard is it going to be? Are there any pointers anyone can give me? I really appreciate the help.

Amber,
I'm sorry to say there are only a couple of tips that have helped me. Fruit/veggie days are my toughest and require careful handling!
1) Always try to have this fall on a day when you can sleep in and then eat as late as possible.
2) Try to eat starchy veggies, like potatoes.
3) Eat fruit with fiber, like pears. I also discovered raspberries have a lot of fiber, too (I thought that was kind of random?).
4) Drink all your water, but you may want to try and fit in other drinks (diet soda, coffee) since they have more of a 'substance' feel.
5) If you have diet pills sitting in your cupboards (you know what I'm talking about, we all have them) dig for an appetite control one and take it.
Hope this helps! I've found if I don't do these things, I'm starving at bed time!
Good luck!

The first time I did the fruit and veggie day, I dreaded it -- now it's one of my favorite days!
I usually try to walk first then have a BIG fruit salad. About mid-afternoon I have a HUGE mixed salad. And then for dinner I roast a ton of veggies (everything but the kitchen sink) and it really feels me up. The bonus is, I usually feel healthier the following day.
Good luck!

Yeah, Shamrock's right, the roasted veggies are good. I also do a vegetable stir-fry that day (the chicken or beef's on the side along with the rice) and that gives us a meal the whole family can enjoy. Just be sure to use minimal oil--I use Pam or a dash of olive oil for the whole pan. Comes out terrific!
My biggest gripe about this day is it's hard to stick to the 'stop when satisfied' rule. Knowing you've only got three meals (and none of them filling ones) makes you want to stuff yourself more than usual. My experience is I lose more if I stick to that 'stop' rule but then I have to use those techniques I laid out above. I used to do the huge fruit salad and giant mixed salad, but I wasn't seeing a loss, in most cases I had a gain for that day! Kind of defeats the purpose, at least for me it did.
Shamrock, do you ever have a gain after your fruit/veggie day? I'm curious, I know my metabolism sucks, so maybe it's just me that reacts this way. If so, I'm jealous! :P

I don't know whether I gain or not because I really try to stick to just weighing myself after the 11 days -- I sometimes sneak a peak if I "feel" like I've lost -- which I usually have! I feel like the fruit and veggie day is kind of like a cleansing day and I usually feel like I've lost the day after.
My metabolism was nonexistent for the last couple of years. This program has really kicked it in gear and even though I feel I'm not eating much less than I have in the past, the weight is coming off.

Yeah, I get that 'cleansing' feeling too, but since I check my weight daily, those numbers are my motivation. I know I don't need to, but I work best with short-term goals.
Thanks for the feedback!

Thanks for all the pointers. I am definitely going to try these on my next one.
Jen, I am just like you. i can't seem to get myself to stay off the scale and it is a really bad habit. I seem to have gained weight the last few days after an initial 4.5 lb. loss. Very frustrating, so I am determined from here on out that I absolutely am not going to weigh any more. I am only going to use a measuring tape and weigh only at the Dr.'s office. Maybe that will keep me from feeling frustrated. Only a few more hours and I will have this day licked.
Thanks again everyone for all of the good hints.

Hi Everyone,
I hope it is ok if I join you. I just started WL4I yesterday, and boy was the first day hard for me. Lately I have had a really hard time staying motivated to lose weight, if it weren't for my husbands encouragement I think I would have given up by now. I have about 15 lbs to lose, and I hope this diet will help me reach my goal. I did a lot of searching on the internet, and I have not found one negative comment. This was very encouraging for me. I am on an all egg day, and I was glad to see previous posts about substituting proteins for proteins and carbs for carbs. I like eggs, but I just don't think I can eat them all day :). I have been working on losing weight for the last 5 months and have lost 10 lbs, but have been on again off again because of the holidays. My husband and I have our 2nd anniversarry coming up on Feb 15th, this is what made me decide to go with this plan. I would love to lose some weight before our anniversary. It sounds like this plan has been great for all of you, I hope I will be able to feel the same at the end of the 11 days. Best of luck to you all with your weight loss and congrats to those of you who have lost weight!

Well, I feel off the wagon last night. I went out with friends because it was hambuger day and intended to only eat my hamburger and drink a glass of wine but I ended up having margaritas instead. The scale only reflected a 1/2 pound change so I'm happy about that. Anyway I am back on track this morning.

| Thank you for the warm welcome. It is day 2 and I have lost 2 pounds! I am really excited, but I need to start walking, which I have not done yet. I was discouraged today because I am going to a super bowl party, and I want to eat all the yummy snacks. I decided to take a look at the forum and get encouraged, and I am. I will only eat the fruit like I am supposed to. I cannot wait to see great results at the end of the 11 days, guess I should get to walking.

It sounds like you are not beating yourself up which is good. There is no problem falling off...as long as you don't get down (that is accept what you have done and the results) and get back on! ;)
Good luck, Amber.

You can enjoy the snacks once you get to your weight and you will enjoy them as a thinner you, right? Best of luck!

| This must've been the weekend -- I also fell off the wagon a little. Yesterday was my son's birthday and I made him baked apple french toast for breakfast -- everyone was raving about it and, believe it or not I didn't eat it, I ate my fruit like I was supposed to. Then....I did a lot of running around doing errands and when I came home there was a "corner" left and I ate it. Later, he had friends over for the Super Bowl and they had pizza and munchies. Again, I ate my roasted veggies, no pizza and did okay. At half time they had cake -- I even sliced it for everyone. Then....I couldn't help myself, I had a sliver! Add to the mix, I had to go to the Dr. because my hip was killing me -- turns out one of the muscles is strained -- he told me to "scale back" on the walking which I have been doing religiously. I took two days off and my hip DOES feel better, but mentally, I know I have to walk. I plan on walking again today. I don't weigh in until Friday so I'll see how it goes.
