I guess I should rephrase....I have always made the weight machines a part of my workout, and I don't want to give that up if it will make me jiggly!!! The thigh machines are actually my favorite, I feel like I have some strong, killer legs!!

My normal routine is 30 min. on the treadmill & then about 4 machines (either legs & back or arms & abs). I have toned up alot since my surgery and I can't bear the thought of being untoned again. I guess what I was asking is if it's counterproductive to keep up with my weights?? I know that seems silly, but if you read the FL4I rules....

I am so hungry for my next fruit meal!! Half an hour to go!!

Denise, thanks for the ticker instructions, I just made one.  They are fun.

Mamanita, no I don't see how the machines can be counterproductive at all.  I also saw in the FL4I rules about going at a slower pace.  I think that means that with cardio, there are 2 different zones to be in, them being weight loss and cardio.  Weight loss is actually at a much lower intensity than cardio (which I think is what they were getting at in FL4I) but still focuses on burning pure fat tissue.  The cardio zone is when your heart rate is higher than that of the weight loss zone, which burns more calories.  But according to FL4I, that is just burning carbs, not so much fat.  Either way, both are good and burn calories.  As far as machines and other toning exercises though, I would definitely keep it up.  I am planning on it anyway.

I also wanted to throw out there- If you are tired of the same old workout routines, go to freetrainers.com You can customize your own workouts and it gives you some good ideas.

Ok, time for some more fruit!

Hello all, I have been following your posts for a few days as I am interested in this program... I slipped a disk in an accident about 4 mo ago and have been packing on the pounds as I can not run or ride with the injury (used to run 3-5mi/day and ride my horse ~50mi on the weekend).  I was hoping that someone might be able to tell me what happens when you come off the diet?... after you reach your goal weight, what then?  Do you just start gaining it all back, or is there a stragety included in the plan?  So many of you have had such success that I guess I'm hoping one of you may be able to help.  Thanks and congrats on all the lost pounds!

Hey B-

I have just started this diet, but I would assume that it is probably just like any other diet.  As long as you eat in moderation after getting off the program, you should be fine.  If you start to see a weight gain though, you could just repeat an 11 day cycle and get it right back off.

The thing I like about this diet though is it gives you 10 rules to go by, which if you aren't following an 11 day cycle and are just sticking to the 10 rules, you will be fine.

Of course if your intake consists of pizza and mcdonalds once you get off the diet, I'm sure the pounds will pack back on.

Good luck!

Hi everyone.  Just checking in quickly today.  You guys can make it through that fruit day!  Personally, I find apples to be VERY filling.  I've never been able to eat more than two at a sitting, and they keep me going 'til that next meal.

Here's something that I'd like to hear some thoughts about.  Today, I had a fairly small grapefruit/broccoli breakfast, and I havent felt hungry since.  In fact, I feel quite full (probably from the water I've been pounding).  I think one of the key things that makes the diet work is that the spaced out meals are supposed to keep your metabolism running all day - digesting food, using it for energy and then tapping into the reserves to keep going.  That presents a question.  Should I be eating if I am not hungry, especially if I feel full?

On one hand, eating when full is antithetical to the diet's primary rule that you should only eat until you are satisfied.  But, I'm afraid NOT eating will slow down the metabolism more than the diet is designed to.

Any ideas?

Tintin,  Although I would love to be in your shoes and not be hungry (I love food and am always hungry), I would still eat something.  If it has been 4 hours since your last meal, and you have not eaten, then eat something.  Whether it be a 1/2 cup of veggies or a piece of fruit or even one of the items of whatever you are supposed to eat next.  Just have  a few bites at least.  If you go hours on end without eating, your metabolism will slow down, and you will be working against everything you are trying to achieve.

Yes, eating less throughout the day and consuming less calories will, in fact, help you lose weight, however it will leave you feeling tired and your body's natural fat burning "furnace" will slow down and you will reach a plateau quickly.

Hi, blueyes.  I agree with what browneyedgirl (love that song, btw) said about what happens after you lose the weight.

I know that when I went off this diet, I gained back some weight, but I fell into the trap of thinking, well, I'm going to go back on it eventually, so I'll basically just eat what I want for now.  Unfortunately, I stayed off much longer than intended, and, well...

Anyway, there are suggestions for maintaining weight in the plan's e-book which you get when you sign up.  None of them are surprising.  In fact, I bet you could probably guess most if not all of them - foods to avoid, rules for eating out, water consumption etc. etc.

Going back to foods that are maybe not the best for overall weight control and relaxing on the portion control rules would make me gain back weight.  I'm living proof.  Your milegage may vary, of course.

Mamanita, I finally had my 2nd fruit meal.  For my first fruit meal today I had an apple and some strawberries.  I was very disappointed in the strawberries though, not as juicy and flavorful as I would have liked.  It is definitely not the time of the year to buy strawberries:sad:

For my second fruit meal, however, I had grapes and a peach.  Very good and much more satisfying.  I'm sure this will hold me over since I know my sandwich is next! Whoo, hoo....

I've been thinking about this sandwich all day long (unfortunately) and I'm going to have turkey breast on oatnut bread with lots of lettuce, tomato and maybe a little fat free italian dressing.  I've been psyching myself up so much for this sandwich, I hope it tastes as good as it looks in my head!

Haha, I think I'm a little bit crazy!

I tend to agree with you browneyed girl.  Fortunately, this meal is cashews and hard boiled eggs, calorie dense and doesnt take up a lot of room in the ol' tum.  I'm going for it.    Fortunately it's not a garden salad or apples! :D

And I most often do get hungry, by the way.  Last night, I couldn't wait for my chicken, and pulled it out of the oven and zapped it in the microwave (I was reheating) because I couldnt wait!

I'd be interested in hearing others' thoughts too, especially if you think not eating is the way to go.

Have a great day everyone!

Browneyed,

I just had my tangerine & grapes, and I am full for the moment, but I am also having my sandwich for meal #3 and it is also turkey, with red onion, and the tiniest bit of low-fat mayo (I just can't do fat-free mayo because it is horrible and made up of stuff that is probably worse than the real thing!) Meal #4 is going to be a big baked apple with a sprinkle of cinnamon and nutmeg later tonight...with one glass of wine. (It is Friday, after all!)

At least I know that after today will be smooth sailing for me!! Even veggie day should be alright because I like sauteed veggies, salads, chili, etc.

Tintin,

You really must eat a little something. The reason this diet stresses 4 meals spaced out is to keep your metabolism burning all day....you don't want to screw it up. Just don't eat a "normal" serving if you are not hungry for it.

Yum...baked apple sounds delicious!  I might have to consider that, although I'm not a great cook and would probably screw it up!

What do you  normally sautee your veggies in?

I will probably use just a touch of olive oil, some fresh garlic, onions, peppers, and maybe some butternut squash, a few diced tomatoes....or whatever I am in the mood for. And I play around with spices...you pretty much can't screw it up if you throw it all in a pan together. I don't think it would hurt to sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on it, too. Molly Mcbutter works if you need the butter flavor. Other times, I add a little worcestershire sauce for added flavor. It all depends on what you like.

As far as the apple, just peel it, cut it into quarters, sprinkle the cinnamon & nutmeg and cook it in the oven (or a little toaster oven) until it gets somewhat soft. Most people like sugar on it, but even aside from the diet I don't usually put extra sugar on my fruit.

Hope this helps. If I come up with any more creative ways to do the veggies, I will share.

That sounds great, I will probably try the baked apple tonight.

Yeah, I was thinking a little olive oil and garlic for my veggies.  I thought I would hate the veggie day the most, but I'm starting to take that back.  Veggies are very filling and you can easily add extra flavor to them.  The fruit day is leaving me so hungry, I'm just glad I have that sandwich to look forward to in a few hours.

Needless to say, I did manage to get a good 50 minute treadmill session in this afternoon, even with no energy.  So I do at least feel good about that!

Titan- I hope you enjoyed those cashews and at least ate a little something :)

I am also thinking of making a modified hummus dip. Not everyone likes hummus, but I do. I don't see why you couldn't sub black beans or pinto beans for the garbanzos (chick peas) usually in it, maybe as follows:

I can black or pinto beans, drained + 1 tbsp minced garlic + 1 tbsp olive oil + 1/2 tbsp lime or lemon juice + 1/2 tsp cumin + salt (to taste)    Throw it all in a blender, make it creamy, put it in a bowl & dip fresh veggies in it.  It's very filling, too.

Great, Great, Great idea of cooking with the wine.  So obvious, yet I never thought of it.  I love cooking chicken in wine.

That hummus recipe sounds delicious!  Too bad I can't use pita bread to dip in it--oh well, I'll have to manage with the veggies!

Mamanita, I noticed you mentioned that you do your aerobic work before the weights.  I suggest that you try reversing that.  I warm up for 10 minutes on the bike, then do weights, and THEN the 30-45 mins on the bike.  You'll burn more fat this way.  The muscle groups targeted in the wieght workout, including abs, will see a greater fat reduction if the aerobic work is done AFTER the weights and ab work.

Give it a shot.

Mama-- We made it!!  I ended up doing some errands this evening, so by the time I got home I just ate 2 peaches because I couldn't wait to make the baked apple.  I will definitely be making that next time around though.

Good job though, girl.  I'm go glad we made it through today!  I'm gonna curl up in bed now so I don't have an urge to eat anything else tonight.

Hello fatchops.  I know what you mean when you say to not get discouraged in case I fall short.  I said in my other ad that I was on day 6.  I meant day 7 and today is day 8 and I am still only at the 3 pound mark.  I hope I am not doing anything wrong.  I am following the diet to the letter drinking all of the water and everything.  I don't know.  I am trying not to get discourage.  I have to also remember that the average pounds lost per week is 1-2.  So I guess I am thankful for the 3.  Keep striving forward, you will get there.  Thanks, finally155.

Hi chati - Veggie day went great for me.  I love veggies, so I don't have to try to do a whole bunch of different things with them to make them appetizing.  But I am hanging in there as I am on day 8 and only 3 pounds down.  Thanks, finally155

Finally155- Do NOT get discouraged.  A healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs per week, so 3 pounds is good.  Besides, it's better than nothing, right?

I think it's safe to say that we all want the quick fix.  We all want to lose 9 lbs in 11 days, but bottom line-it's just not healthy.  The faster you drop the weight in the beginning, the quicker you will plateau.  Keep following your diet, you still have 3 more days PLUS your 3 cheat days.  You need to cheat a bit to really throw that body for a loop too and continue to drop weight.

Let's say you only lose 3 lbs each cycle, that is still 6 lbs a month-which is 30 lbs in 6 months.  That's some serious weight!

Let's also not lose sense on the most important factor.  Of course we all want to be skinney-minnie and look hott, but most importantly (which is often overlooked because our society) we should strive to be healthy!  To eat well, have a strong heart, low cholesterol and more energy.  If we keep our bodies happy, our bodies will keep us happy!

Just keep your head up and keep doing what you're doing.  You WILL see results!

Finally155... 3lbs in 7 or 8 days is a heck of a lot better than none, or gaining.  Any dietician will tell you that your rate of weight loss is perfect; exactly what should be happening.  I don't know why I lost more, or why some will lose less, and some will have to abandon the diet altogether because it makes them feek sick.  But you're dead centre in the target zone.  Just think where you'll be come July and swimwear season!

Keep up the great work!

Browneyedgirl... Victoria Secret catalogues are strictly forbidden in this house.  I am appalled and saddened by this mandatory rule.  But as a married man, I get it.  HER rule is very very sweet and just a touch ridiculous.  As if banning catalogues will somehow ban the existence of stunning women and their swimwear.  Still, very sweet.

I have nothing else to say.  Just having a good laugh.  And also looking forward to NOT having to wear a T-shirt on the beach this summer.  Guess there are some goals that aren't gender specific!

Here's to all our swimwear goals!!!

Hi all, I'm new here but have been lurking for a while and reading all the posts....I've never joined a forum before...BUT what a great group of people have been a part of this group over the years.  I feel like I already know some of you!  I just finished day five.  There was alot of cottage cheese so I decided to sometimes blend it with a little lemon extract or unsweetened koolaide powder, a little sweetener and a dusting of cinnamon and voila...a sweet ending to my meals that tastes like cheesecake.  I must say that on day 2 a sandwich never tasted sooo good...I grilled mine so it was warm and delicious.  I took Dobie's suggestion and added a couple pickled pepper slices and made special sauce of the mayo and a touch of catsup.  You're all doing great. I'm trying to wait and weigh in on day 12 so I don't get discouraged as I typically am a slow loser...but I'm hoping this revs up my metabolism way up!!

Thanks Larry!  I did blend the cottage cheese in a blender or in a bowl with a stemblender until smooth so the texture was morelike cheesecake.  It was really good with lemon/lime koolaide powder too...just a tiny bit with added sweetner to taste...keylime pie. ;)  I made my red/green vegies like an Italian stew...a can of diced tomatoes, green beans, peppers and basil oregano and alittle garlic. I had cottage cheese with that meal so I blended it with some basil and oregano and put alittle over it like ricotta in lasagna...it tasted very similar.

Larry,

Haha, not me!  I love looking at the VS catalogues.  More for the clothing of course, although I can recognize a beautiful woman when I see one.  As a formal model/beer girl/ring girl, I am not at all appalled by that sort of thing.  But I do realize that beauty is only skin deep:smile:

You're right, out of sight doesn't ban the existance of attractive women/men out there.  I am all for it as long as it is done with class.  And hey, even if it's trashy, who am I to judge?  As long as it isn't affecting me.

Goals are definitely not just gender specific.  You will look fab with no shirt on this summer...you go boy!

Hello Everyone,

I'm really excited, just started on Monday 1/07/08- hoping to see alot less of me soon!!

I'm using an old version of FL4I it seems easier than what alot of you are using.  But I did get a sample menu of the new version.  If the old one doesn't produce results I'll switch.

I already love this diet.  I'm a swing shift worker so you'll be hearing from me at all hours of the day and night.   You all are so supportive and have some great ideas.

I'm really glad I found this forum.-  Thanks

Dark-- Good for you, that is great!  Keep up the good work.

Has anyone had any problems with getting an extreme headache and night sweats?  Maybe i'm just stupid, but I had the worst headache that would not go away and the one time I woke up my hair was nearly dreanched and I was so hot.

Maybe it's stress related or just something else.  I felt ok this morning (after 4 excedrine migrane pills that I took overnight)and went to my normal aerobics class then towards the end I felt like I was going to puke!  I got home and ate a frozen pizza and chocolate, and 2 pieces of toast :crying:  I'm so disappointed, but I needed something in me asap.  While the pizza was cooking I made toast and munched on chocolate because I was so hungry.  I know I should have just grabbed some fruit and I'm kicking myself for not doing that.

I'm hoping that the above isn't from this diet, but I wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem?  Also, since I cheated SOOO bad, should I just start over with day 1?  I mean, today would have only been day 3.

Let me know your thoughts...

Dark- was the 13 lbs from only 1 cycle, or have you done 2?  Either way, that rocks and you should be extremely proud of yourself!

Browneyedgirl, yes, I have issues with migraines and had three sick headaches so far....but from previous diets I have learned that it is a sign of my body having bloodsugar issues as it is learning not to live on carbs and actually start to burn fat.  I decided to stick it out and just be patient with myself until my body adjusts and starts burning fat instead of carbs and sugar for fuel. I make a plan to not go too long without eating...very important because once the blood sugar drops it can sometimes be too late to stop the headache quickly with food.  The worse days for me are very low carb  or all protein days and sometimes the all fruit day.  Add a little carb(from our list) to a meal or two on an all protein day and a little protein to the breakfast on fruit day if you need to until your body adjusts.  My body usually takes afew weeks to start wanting to use fat for fuel..... I  guess it always wonders if this just a fluke or I'm serious about the changes..lol!!!  This is not an excuse for doing as you please but tweaking the diet so it works for you( as Larry and Dobie and Jules and others have suggested in previous posts) rather than giving up.  I hope this helps.  Don't be hard on yourself...you did what you had to do to get that bloodsugar up again...alittle tweaking for now might help you avoid crashing again.  Also look at that day and see if you ate, slept, etc differently...your body is talking to you... and you may see the answer there.   The night sweats sound hormonal...bodyfat and estrogen are linked in the body.  Hang in there...

Sunshine,

Thank you for your words of advice.  I really made a dumb mistake on my part too because I didn't eat anything before my aerobic class either.

I am going to just stick it out and start over.  I know what to expect now, so I can just adjust accordingly.  Also, yesterday with fruit day I woke up at 4:30 am, therefore my meals were so spaced out throughout the day.  I probably should have eaten more, or added one more fruit meal in that day to make my total 5 meals instead of 4.  That shouldn't hurt, right?  That way my meals aren't like 5-6 hours apart, and instead about 3-4 hours apart.

I'm going to dinner tonight with a girlfriend of mine, so I'm going to eat sensibly (probably a grilled chicken salad wtih fat free dressing) and have no dessert.  Then just start over again tomorrow with Day 1.  I'm so bummed!

Hey browneyes, don't be bummed.  You learned something valuable that can help you feel better next time around and that's a GOOD thing.  We're all learning as this is a process and not just a goal....some days present the unexpected!  Just sharing your story and how you made it through will help someone else down the road.  Have fun with your friend and thoroughly enjoy your meal guilt free. Tomorrow is a brand new day!!!

Hello Browneyedgirl

I've learned that headaches are sometimes caused by not being hydrated, i don't know if it was the cause but it is somthing to keep in mind. When i have a headache i drink a bunch of water and within half hour it goes away.

Um actaully what happened to me was during the x-mas holidays i lost a few pounds before i started my 1st cycle. I lost about i think 7 or 8 pounds on my first cycle.

i hope things get better for you :)

Thanks Dark.  I did drink a lot of water, but I guess there are a lot of things to consider.  Either way, I'm going to give it another go and try to make it through.  Congrats again, even 7 or 8 lbs is great.

Sunshine-thank you for your words of encouragement :)
