Amjacie - Woohoo! You are at it again! Congratulations on losing 9 lbs!!!!
Zas - Congratulations to you, also!! You amaze me. And I am so happy about your medical reports! Awesome!
Writer78 - Welcome! You know I didn't get hungry on the DG when I was on the diet in 2008. I drank lots of water and tea and that kept me feeling satiated until the next meal. But trying it again to lose some weight I have gained recently, I was hungry in between meals. I don't know why, so I tried the BC and that helped a lot as I get to eat every 2.? hours even though they are smaller meals. Now I just have days when I am hungry... period, but not always. I think it is hormones with me, but I am not really sure. I seem to be all over the place lately, hot, cold, hungry, not hungry, hot, thirsty, hot, craving sweets... did I mention hot? LOL These hot flashes are wiping me out! I just know that when I was "normal" it was so easy to lose and I never felt like I was dieting. We all have to find what works for us individually. Let us know how you do.
Norswede - I am glad you made it over to this thread! Amjacie has lost over 100 lbs. Many of us have lost a nice amount of weight (several of us around the 50+ mark). You CAN do it! Let us know if you have any questions.
Just a quick note on the "marinara or pasta sauce" for the spaghetti squash. We cannot use typical canned or jarred pasta/marinara sauce. I wanted to make sure no one misunderstood about that. We can use tomatoes and onions and puree them ourself or buy them as long as there is no added sugars and additives, or else that will be deviating from the diet. I usually use tomatoes and basil with shaved parmesan cheese on the "mock spaghetti".
I don't have time to go back and read all the posts I missed the last few days, as I am too behind. My boss is leaving out of town AGAIN tomorrow, so I have alot going on. But I will try to keep up on the posts daily, and try to get some of the cycle weight losses posted that I have missed. I want to make sure you all get your kudos as you have worked so hard and deserve it! You are an inspiration to the newcomers and lurkers AND the rest of us. Big hugs to all my diet buddies!

Hi Monica! I am fine (besides being hot all the time). Sunshine said to roll with it instead of fight it, so I am trying to let nature take it's course. However I feel like I am in Saudia Arabia not San Jose. hehehe
Deanna - What were you mentioning the other day that you did for hot flashes? Sunshine has given me some great ideas, and I would like to hear what others did. Maybe we can talk about this in the NonFat Chat? I would love to get other opinions from other women who have experienced this.

| Tomorrow I have tuna salad on my menu. Is it acceptable to have a tuna salad sandwich or do I have to have the tuna salad by itself?

Norswede - Yikes! Did you say bread? No bread is allowed on the diet except for Fruit Day sandwich on Day 2 of the DG. You can make tuna with onion and some light mayo and serve it on tomato slices, if you like. I have cut out a tomato and chopped up the insides (after I drained it) and served the tuna salad with the chopped up tomatoes and onions and mayo inside the tomato cup to make it look pretty. At the very worst, you could wrap it in a lettuce leaf, although that would be considered a deviation technically. Check out the recipe section as there are some ideas for tuna so we don't have the "same old" all the time and get sick of it. Hope that helps.

Good Morning to all you lovlies!!!
oana - You are so kind... I really appreciate it! Today is the day and I found the squash yesterday to the grocers. I will be preparing it with a marinara... Question... Can I use portobello mushrooms in this "faux spaghetti" in replace of meat?
This is awesome because although I purchased the spaghetti squash I didn't have a clue as to how to prepare it and you put down some easy to follow instructions.
msgemini39 - thanks for the reply....glad to know I wasn't the only one...
I plan on having: spaghetti squash with marinara, I have a large multi-leaf salad with cucumbers, tomatoes, onion, and i also have cucumbers tomatoe salad that I always have enjoyed eating.... I think I'm good to go! Wish me luck guys... so far in this cycle, Ive lost 8 lbs..... this is day 8 for me...first cycle...this thing really works and I'm excited!

doxwifey - mushrooms are not on the list of veggies in Diet Generator. If you have it you'd be deviating fro the diet.

I've been walking on a cloud ever since I weighed in this morning and saw that I am down from 237.4 to 234.8 and I'm only on day 3! this diet is amazing! I can't wait to see my results at the end of the cycle :) Last edited on 28 July 2010 04:31 pm by norswede

Doxwifey - If you stick to the allowed foods listed, you will be safe. So I would skip the mushrooms. What kind of marinara do you use?
Norswede - YAY! That is great news.

Ya, he posted in 3 of our forum threads and I deleted them all. He has one more on this site and Nir will get it. We go in cycles... there have been a few in the last week and I nabbed them all right away. But I can't be on here 24/7. Luckily I keep my email up and get notified of all the posts.
For the newcomers... we get these people posting links to other sites and they are trying to get free advertising and make money off people as they get credits for the links if you click on them. Don't click on these links. It is against forum rules for them to post on this site, but they don't care, as they come back and post again under another name, often times. Sometimes they post like they are doing this diet and say things to sound credible. But you can tell by their number of posts and links that they don't belong here. We try to be protective of our forum members here as we are one big family!

Welcome Norswede and hello everyone - I'm just dropping in for a few moments before heading out to Universal Studios. It's been a busy week and hot as anything in FL - which has kept me drinking - lots of water; very little !
We've also walked a lot at Gatorland and Seaworld, so hopefully I won't have too much to lose when I get back to work on Monday!
I haven't been able to fit the 6 meals in every day, but I have managed to at least get four in.
Have a great day everyone and I'll be back online more starting next Monday!

Webfairy...you are like a little fairy that keeps sprinkling your fairy dust on our forum to keep us all safe! Sunshine really hit the nail on the head - what would we do without you taking care of the "one big happy family"?
Jazzy...good for you to be having so much fun AND staying true to the diet!!! YGG!!! I hope I do as well come November when I vacation there.
Zas...you did not do so terrible considering all the temptations - those few will come off quickly. Glad you had a good time.
Newbies...hope your week is going well - keep on keepin'!!
Hello everyone even if I don't mention each name, I still think of you for sure!
Tomorrow I leave on a family (17) camping trip which I'm really looking forward to!! It's something we have been wanting to do for a long time and never did - I then can scratch it off my "bucket list" and be happy! LOL It turned out these are my free days and didn't realize that when I started the diet, so I got lucky - BUT I'm going to try really hard not to mess things up for Monday morning weigh in.
Have a good day peeps!!!

I just wanted to pop in and say hi to everyone! I've been trying hard to read up on all your threads (exhausting! lol) and today is my Day 8 on BC. I'm down only a few pounds, but actually that's great because I was already dieting well, and probably didn't have a lot of water weight pounds to drop initially.
Anyway, what do most do on their first choice day? Of course my instinct is to have every single thing I've been dreaming about these past days, but I don't want to end up in a food coma and undo everything. I am only taking one choice day and going back to day 1 immediately because I have a wedding to go to on 8/07 and can fit another 1/2 cycle in since I was hoping to be down another few pounds. Any advice? I know we are going out to dinner on my choice day...and possibly a movie which popcorn is not a choice but a MUST for me.
I know I'm rambling; I guess I just wondered what others have experienced when they took that first choice day.

Weighed in today at 233.4! I'm down 4 pounds in 3 days! I'm so glad I didn't listen to my husband when he told me that this diet looked like a scam. Once again I was right. It gets tiring sometimes LOL Last edited on 29 July 2010 08:08 pm by norswede

Hi Scoobees...I noticed you've been a member since 2006, so how did you fare at that time when you first started? This is an amazing diet and we all love it. As for free days, I believe a few are taking only 2 days, that is what I do. I mostly try to stick to as many things on the diet allowed as possible and indulge in only what is absolutely calling my name and then I eat as small a piece as possible. If it's still calling out to me I will dabble in another resonable amount. You know, it's all trial and error when it comes to those days, so good luck with that.
Norswede...that is absolutely fantastic!!! What do husbands know about dieting anyway! It's us poor ladies that struggle almost a lifetime!!LOL So glad you took the plunge inspite of what he was suggesting...YGG!!!

Jazzy - Have a great time!
Zas - Don't worry. You will drop those cheat day gains. EXERCISE: I need to exercise, too! I am going to start some weight training (at home) to get myself back in the game. You can even use milk jugs and canned foods, as weights. I know if I rejoin the gym I will find a million reasons not to go, and so since I am time starved, I am going to set aside 30 minutes when I get home from work for that. Supposedly the new information is that working out for longer periods is actually not as effective as working out for shorter periods, like 20 - 30 minutes, if you condense your workout, and make it the same amount of exercise is a shorter time period. So you work out harder and get better results than workinig out for an hour. Since time seems to be a big factor in most of our lives, it is great to know this! Also weight training helps a lot with women over 50 (menopausal ages), believe it or not, as it builds bone density to help offset osteosporosis, and it helps you lose weight. You may gain a little at first, but your body will adjust and lose it, so the key is consistency. I think that is what I need to work on... conisistency. I get all passionate at first and then as time goes on I fizzle out and stop completely. I get overwhelmed with the time aspect, so now that I know I don't have to spend a whole hour, I can make this work.
Scoobees - I know it is easy to go food crazy on cheat days but it is not worth it. I think all of us have done that at least once or twice! I think you should allow yourself some special treats that you like, but be balanced about it. I will use pie for an example... Don't eat a whole pie, just a slice. And instead of eating it on top of a meal for dessert, make it a meal by itself. Try to stay away, though from too much processed and refined foods. White flour and sugar are our worst enemies. Keep spacing your meals apart, and keep your portions the right size. If you don't overeat, you probably won't gain. I always loved to have peanut butter on my cheat days cuz I love it so much. But instead of making a peanut butter sandwich, I would take a tablespoon of peanut butter and lick it like a lollipop until it was done. I took my time to make it last, and it actually satisfied my craving. Sometimes just a couple bites of something is enough (except the cookies I made the last couple weeks... ugggh... but I digress...) so if you just try to make the healthiest choices, and even if you include something not so healthy in a meal, eat more of the healthier foods and just have a smalle portion of the not so healthy choice. And like I always say, these "cheat days" are good practice for how we plan to eat in the future when we are no longer dieting. We don't want to gain all our weight back so we have to learn moderation and making good food decisions. Let us know how you do!
Sunshine, Okolo and DeeDee thank you so much. It's my pleasure, really! How fun would it be, to be a fairy and have a magic wand and fairy dust... hehehe. I would definitely wear a cute, glittery, purple fairy dress if I could! During the holidays I make these special little confection treats, and I use organic sugar I dye in different colors, and then I sprinkle it on them. I pretend it is fairy dust. It just seems more fun to me.

DeeDee - thanks, I'm gonna need it (the good luck part !). Yeah, I've been a CPHer for a long time - but have mainly stayed in the diary section. I may have the longest diary there! Normally, I don't really do diets per se; just tried to eat somewhat healthy and exercise like a crazy woman. I've reached goal weight TWICE but struggle afterwards. I think my picture is in the dictionary under 'emotional eater'.
Anyway, on my first journey I lost 93 pounds and was so happy! I gained back 76 pounds over the years. Then I lost the 76 pounds , and regained almost 30 back. Right now I've got another 23 to go. And yes, I DO feel like a yo-yo. And yes, I DO want it to stop!
Then I read here about BC and figured what do I have to lose except for a few pounds! And I am thankful I found something to try, as I have just now re-injured my knee and can no longer do my high intensity workout program. It's become more important than ever that I pay closer attention to my food choices.
Webfairy - Not the whole pie eh? But seriously, thanks - I think that's a lot of good points to remember...especially the part about this being good practice for how we eat in the future. Because of my lack of being able to master maintenance, I really really really need to learn this.
Thanks for your advice! Have a great evening!

| Hi, I just joined this site, and just bought the FL4I diet yesterday. I have read through it and tried to read this thread from the beginning, but it seems so overwhelming. Is there a forum or thread somewhere that answers all the typical questions that newbies like me would have, such as 1) if you get up a 6 am and go to be around 10pm, then that is 16 hours to split 4 meal into. If you are to eat around every 2.5+ hours, that would leave quite abit of time you don't eat or around 4 hours between meals. So what do you do, and 2) If you have 3 others you cook for, then how do you time your meals when they are at such odd times compared to when the rest of the household eats? Am I just thinking too much???????

AHH WEBFAIRY AND TWINKLE TOES we could start a fairy tail hear!
I also get up at 6:00 but generaly have green tea or a coffee and do not feel like eating until around 8:00 and you can go 3 hours inbetweenwithought hurting your progress. So that gives me 8,11,3, and 6. Then just water after that. I have been on BC, which is 6 meals that are smaller but I can never get all 6 in because I do not have an appatite after 6pm,so I will start back at DG on Sunday. I seem to lose more on DG as well
Glad you are hear TWINKLETOES

Twinkle...Welcome to the forum!! BC is Beyond Calories and DG is Diet Generated. I'm guessing DG is what you are doing. BC you get to have 6 smaller meals and that helps people when they feel hungry all the time. For the most part most of us started on DG, that is what I have been doing and haven't had any problems. I eat at 10-2-6-9, but I'm up until 2am most nights so the 9 is not too late for me to eat. You'll find your little cycle that will work best for you, just give it a little time. We have some good cooks on the forum as well and I'm sure they can pass along some family eating tips and recipes. Good luck - your success is our success - we are all in this together!!!

Welcome twinkletoes! If you are doing the FL4I diet generator you could eat like this 8am/11:30am/ 3:00pm and 7pm or you can figure out a whatever interval works for you. What time does your family eat their meals? Do you work outside the home? There can be many things to consider. And you can feed your family (most of the time) the main dish you have on your menu (for instance, chicken) and then you only have whatever else is allowed on your meal. But you can add side dishes for them to go with their chicken (or whatever). That way you aren't cooking different meals. You may not cook your chicken the same way, but at least you are quasi-making the same main dish. Do you get hungry in the evenings? Does eating 4 meals until you are satisfied (not full) work better than 6 half portion meals? Those are some things to consider when you are deciding between the DG and BC. Some people would rather eat 6 smaller meals more often, than 4 meals spaced further apart. If you do the DG then just make sure you drink plenty of water in between meals. Have you checked out the Diet Tips & Guidelines thread? Here it is: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum3/8669.html It will answer some of the questions you may have. If not, ask here and we will try to help.

Happy Friday everybody!!! Yay! I love Fridays! And I get my grandbaby Lilahbelle today for the weekend, so that makes it extra special!
I came across a new study and thought this might encourage some of you... especially you lurkers out there!
ScienceDaily (July 28, 2010) — The more people used an interactive weight management website, the more weight loss they maintained, according to a Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research study published online in the open access Journal of Medical Internet Research.
What they found is that people who consistantly logged on to an interactive website (like ours) and posted their weight at least once a month for 2 1/2 years had the best results. The more frequently they logged on, the more weight they kept off. Consistency and accontability are what is essential, and the fact that people all over the planet can log on any time from anywhere makes it possible for anyone. Woohoo! So keep posting, diet buddies!

Happy Friday everyone!
Zas - Thanks for the welcome! Hopefully this will be my LAST yo-yo experience!
Day #9 on BC, still doing well. I am very surprised how fast you can adapt to smaller meals; the first 2 days I wanted to gnaw my hand off but now I'm feeling semi-satisfied with sooo much less - probably because I know another meal is right around the corner.
I know it will be trial & error on my choice day. The only thing I am really missing right now is my morning oatmeal of all things! And my Fiber One cereal. But with going out to dinner and the movies I know I will misbehave a bit . Hopefully it's only 'a bit'.
Enjoy your Friday!

| I'm down 2 pounds since yesterday! Is it normal and healthy to lose weight that fast? I started on Monday and I've already lost 6 pounds. I'm excited by the weight loss but I heard that if you lose weight too quickly it means that you are burning muscle. Is this true?

Hi there,
I am brand new.. just registered. However, it will not let me start a new post??
Here's my status: my husband and I just finished day 6. I have lost 6 pounds so far, so I'm super excited about that! My husband has lost none - which is really strange.
Anyway, two things on my mind: One, I am hungry a lot. Does that mean I'm not eating enough at a meal? I'm so afraid of overeating, because that is what I usually do.
Two, I am already starting to get really tired of ham, eggs, turkey... and that makes me afraid that I will give up eventually. What can we do to prevent boredom?
Thanks so much to anyone who answers!

Why would you want to make a new post anyway? Hands up those who read the 'General Discussion' topic. Now keep your hands up if you check the FL4I forum for new topics and read those as well. Hello? Why have you all put your hands down all of a sudden? Hello?

Welcome Lenoirsusan and husband! You are in the right place. You have done well in your losses!
As far as being hungry...are you actually drinking ALL the water? This makes a huge difference. Make sure you eat until satisfied...then have a hot cup of tea or coffee to end the meal nicely. Your body will adjust to this new way of eating if you give it time. I found that my body was used to living on carbs and it took a few cycles to be more efficient at using protein as a fuel How much do you need to lose? What about hubby? Look at the recipe thread for new ideas for foods. You can scramble your eggs with salsa or make a cheese omelet etc. If eggs and milk come up together make baked custard and sweeten with Xylitol or sweetener. Use your milk to make cappuccino or chai latte. Get creative. Chicken can be made with mexican, chinese, thai, italian or whatever spices for variety.
I hope this helps. Feel free to ask questions. We were all new once

So today is day 1 FINALLY... I was really bad the last 5 days and gained. Oh well. So my start weight is 146.4
Here are my questions I have so far:
1. Is it best to try and wait until day 11 to weigh myself again? I always weigh myself but I don't want to get discouraged.
2. Can I switch out any of the fish? My meals call for an awful lot of halibut and sea bass but the local store didn't have either! I have a few others varieties at home like salmon, flounder, tilapia, mahi mahi, and alaskan pollock. Will any of these work?
that's all for now but it's only the morning of day one so I am sure there are more to come. Thanks everyone.

soclose.....you can substitute a protein for a protein........if u get easily discouraged then its best advised to wait till end of 11 days......but being your first cycle u will definetly loose weight fast.....good luck

Checking in on my one choice day today! I am thrilled that I lost 3.5 pounds on my first cycle of BC! Yes!
Anyway, I will take today off, and then start Day 1 again tomorrow, but Day 6 will be my brother's wedding - so no dieting that day - but I will keep going on Day 7 I guess. Not sure how that works - I don't think we need to start all over again, right? Just keep going?
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend!

| Scoobees- Congrats on your weight loss so far. Did you lose all of your weight on the FL4I diet? If not, how did you lose it and how long has it taken so far? Last edited on 1 August 2010 09:02 pm by norswede

| I just saw a commercial for cauliflower noodle Kraft Dinner! Does anyone know if this is acceptable on Veggie Day? And does anyone know if any other brands make cauliflower pasta?

Thanks Norswede! This is my first attempt at the BC diet these last 10 days. It's hard for me to answer your question about how long it's taken for the weight loss only because I've yo-yo'd up & down since 1994 . I've got a diary started here beginning in 2006 if you're ever REALLY bored lol.
To try to sum it up a little: In 1994-1995 I went from 226 pounds to 133 pounds (-93) by working out in the gym and sensible eating. It's been crazy since. Over time I gained all the way back up to 211 and I began trying once again to lose weight in Jan of 2006, reached my goal of 135 (-76) in August 2007 by working out in the gym and home exercise programs like Turbo Jam. Since 8/07 I've gained some, lost some but have never reached goal ever again.
I love to exercise but emotional eating has really done me in. I am hoping this is over for good. I've made the committment to dieting now that I have re-injured my knees and can't exercise at this time.
Gosh, I hope some of that made sense.

Uggghhhh... this may be harder than I thought! Day one is almost over... I think I did great. Only issue was that I had homework for my master's program to do and wasn't able to workout. Water and food were right one. I find it hard to watch my husband having a nice cold beer on the deck though.... Summer time to me means a couple of lime beers outside with the neighbors... oh well. Just hard though! lol. Good thing I can have tea, coffee, and diet soda or I would be lost.
