Hi there
You could do vegetable chili, or veg curry( chineese or Thai or indian, depending what dry spices you have)
I like the sound of your tomato and grilled cheese for breakfast. That is the one meal I always struggle with on veg days.

Thanks Denise. I sent them a message, so hopefully I get a response.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I am starting a different diet with a few more high quality carbs included. I had grilled shrimp, salad and 1/2 brown rice last night and I feel infinitely better.
Just wanted to thank everyone for your support and good luck!

Hi Jane
I use spray oil to slightly fry off the spices first with some onion(this brings out the flavour) the add my fresh chopped toms, other veg from the list, including peppers and some veg stock ( enough so it doesnt become dry but not too much so you have too much liquid-if that makes sense. )

Hi dark_lavi
Why such a limit on the veg?Was there NOTHING else on the list you would eat, or was it perhaps thats all you had in and the January budget( like mine) doesnt allow extra's right now
Do you not eat any cheese either?
A little worried for you

Wow. You guys are great.
I will be starting this diet next week! I just have a question -- So, you pick your favorite foods, and then incorporate them into the diet? They make out a meal plan for you right? What do you guys do as for meals for your partners? haha, i have a hubby who loves his food. do you just cook up some extra stuff on the side for them??

Hi Taylee,
To tell the truth its a bit of a wierd sort of combination. I sometimes find it difficult to include a meal for my hubby. Tonight for eg. I can have chicken and or hard boild eggs. Well he can have the same chicken but I´ll make him something else to go with it.
Have you downloaded the diet generator yet?
They give you a choice of, I think 30 foods in two columns. You get to tick off up to 15 of either, then it gives you your plan according to the choices you have made. Seems a bit wierd at first but having chosen food you like its very easy to get used to.
Let us know how you go and welcome to the group.

Hi, everyone! I just joined the forums and am thrilled to have found other people on this diet. I dont know how I missed this site on my first go round with fl4i, a diet that truly changed my life.
Here's my little story. I've always been overweight - for as long as I can remember. I was pudgy as a little kid and stayed that way until high school, when my growth spurt took over and I was so active that I didnt have time to eat much. You all know how that goes.
By the time I was done with college I was nearly 300 lbs. I started with nutrisystem and lost about 70 pounds or so in about a year. Even though I was 230, I'm a big guy, so I didnt feel that overweight at that level. Naturally, over the years, most of the weight came back, and I did the Atkins thing in the late 90s and again dropped down to about 240.
Surprise, surprise, the weight came back again until I was at 330 pounds (!) in 2007. That's when I found fl4i. From February 6 to June 22 of 2007 (I keep detailed notes :/), I lost 75 pounds by doing nothing more than following the diet. It was the best money I ever spent in my life.
When I went "off", I told myself I needed a little break and intended to start back up again in the fall. Well, with all the football games, parties, holidays, etc. I never could get back up and running. I am so happy that the new year is finally here and I am starting up again.
I have put on about 10 pounds or so since June. I'm looking forward to losing that 10 and another 70 or so to get under 200 pounds for the first time since probably freshman year of college.
Just started this monday and my water weight is falling away. It will be interesting to see where I end up after the first 11 days. It's hard to know how much of what I "gained" was water and how much was that other stuff.
Anyway, sorry for the long post which is essentially just a "hello". To anyone out there who is considering trying this plan I'll say exactly what I've told everyone else who's asked me about it: fruits and vegs, lean proteins, water, low starchy carbs, reasonable portions. Not rocket science. It may not be for everyone, but it certainly worked for me.
Cheers!

I have now read every single post on this topic, and I am downloading the Fat Loss program today. I always eat healthy and exercise regularly anyway, but can't get the pounds to come off!! I have managed to lose 10-15 lbs since July, but I am SOOO stuck on a plateau. I want to lose 30 to 35 pounds, and I feel like this may work for me.
Hopefully, I can start tomorrow....unless I decide to wait for Monday so that my 3 days off would be on a weekend.
Anyway, I will be checking in often. Keep up the good work!!

HI Tinitin,
Thanks for your story - very inspirational after a veg day! I intend to keep doing this until I get to 150 pounds which is the top end of my healthy weight range.
Welcome Anita and good luck. I just started last week and have found it ok and the weight is coming off.

Thanks for your kind words, Jane. Though the fact that you found it inspiring may say more about the nature of Vegetable day than it does about my story! I recall Day 8 can be pretty grim - my wife knows not to stand in between me and my pinto beans at dinner. hehe But, I always looked at it as quite the motivational force during the week - once I made it through Day 8, coasting to Day 11 was a breeze!
Anita and Taylee - Good luck!! I wish you both much success. I've always started on Mondays just so I can have a beer with the boys every other Friday, and then I also have a shot at a "date type" dinner at a restaurant or fixing a fancy/fun dinner at home on Saturday night.

Yes, I think it might be worth waiting til Monday....although I am hyped to get started now! I like that you can have a glass of wine at night, but sometimes I may want two or three, and that has to be saved for "cheat days," so weekends would be best for that!!
TinTin - I think it's pretty good that you have only put back on 10 pounds since quitting several months ago, and at least you know what works to get it to come back off!! Some folks put that much on during the holidays alone!!
Taylee - we can do this!!! Best of luck!

Wow, lots of new faces. That's fantastic. Good luck to y'all. Great story Tintin.
Idea for a cheat: Instead of sausage links or bacon today, I made a rack of slow-cooked ribs. Ate the ribs only, no rice, etc. Was really good. Will weigh in over the weekend and let you folks know where I'm at. 192lbs last time. Fingers crossed.
All best,
Larry

Had a thought for the evil veggie day: Rachel Ray's "Black Bean Stoup". "Stoup" because it's half way between a stew and a soup. It's amazing. You can eat it all day it's that good. Here's the recipe:
2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil. 1 large onion. 3 ribs celery with greens, chopped. 4 cloves garlic, chopped. 1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped. 1 bay leaf (fresh or dried). 1 red bell pepper, seeded and chopped. 3 (15 ounce) cans black beans. 2 tablespoons ground cumin. 1 1/2 teaspoons ground coriander. Salt and pepper. 2 to 3 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons hot sauce, devided. 1 quart chicken or vegetable stock. 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes, or diced tomatoes with pepper and onions or stewed tomatoes. 1 or 2 limes.
Heat a medium soup pot over medium high heat. Add 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil to the hot pot, then onion, celery, garlic, jalapeno and bay leaf. Cook 3 to 4 minutes, then add red peppers and continue to cook. Drain 2 cans of beans and add them. Use a fork to mash up the beans in the remaining can (be VERY careful not to cut yourself on the rim of the can as I did - bled like a pig!). Stir the mashed beans into the pot and season with cumin, coriander, salt and pepper, then add 2 to 3 tablespoons of hot sauce. Add stock and tomatoes to the stoup and bring to a bubble. Reduce heat and simmer 15 minutes over low heat. Add the lime juice. Remove and discard the bay leaf.
Serve with a topping of non-fat sour cream and scallions (green onions).
This is great stuff, I promise!
Best,
Larry

Hi Tin and Anita---WELCOME! Glad to hear your story Tin. I've lost 10, although slowly but still happily. Next weigh in is this Friday. I've been busy shoveling snow the past few days for my exercise.
I hope Dark doesn't mind if I speak for her, but she posted her reasons for only being able to eat tomatoes and carrots awhile back. She gets sick if she eats any others. Just didn't want anyone to think that she was misreading the plan.
Larry, that recipe sounds wonderful!
Nice to see this place jumping.

Good morning all
Thanks for the recipe Larry, I will try that next veg day.
Anita, I started last Wednesday 2nd Jan and am now on day 9. I weighed after day 6 (morning of day 7) and had lost 5lb - yea so I am on my way to the promised 9lb on Sunday morning. In saying that I would be happy with 7lb every time I do it.
Plan is to keep doing it to get to around 147-150 pounds I am currently 188 started at 193. In Sep I was 202 and lost 14lb before Christmas with healthy eating and exercise - but put 4lb back on over Christmas!!
2008 I will do it! Lots of weddings, 40ths, Reunions, holidays, my youngest son is 4 in April (I have 3) I really have no excuse any more - baby fat etc etc
Have a great day.

wow, great to see so many new members on the forum, congratulations to everyone who's decided to change their life.
I still can't get over how successful this diet is. I wanted results fast and I have another 2lbs off since Monday, bringing my total to 19lbs in just over 6 weeks. I can't help weighing every few days to see my progress and when a couple of ladies at work asked me if I'd lost weight, I was chuffed to bits.
Now comes the test, I have a favourite pair of jeans at home and haven't been able to wear them in a number of years, I tried them about 2 months ago just before I started and couldn't even get them up much further than my knees (I was so gutted which is why I resorted to FL4I). I'm going to try them again tonight and see if I can get them up any higher. Watch this space!!!
I've always started each cycle on the monday so I can have every other weekend off - Sunday lunch is always a big thing at our house and I would miss dreadfully not having dessert afterwards.
Tintin, wow, you lost 75lbs in about 4 months on this before?? that's fantastic. I wish you every success this time round.

Hey Everyone...
I have been reading your posts for the last couple days, and decided to purchase FL4I yesterday. I began my diet today and weighed in at 163 this morning. I am ultimatly hoping to lose 25-30 lbs.
Everything with the diet seems pretty straight forward, although I'm sure the veggies only day is going to suck!
I'm really impressed with everyones progress so far, and just watned to say congrats!
It seemed quite odd to have bacon and ham for breakfast instead of my normal egg whites and oatmeal-- we'll see how it goes!
Oh---also, when I post on here, do I just hit "reply" in the last person who posted's block? Haha, I'll get the hang of it soon!

Hi Browneyed girl and welcome You can hit reply to any post to post yourself. Check out the fl4i recipe discussion. there are lots of tips and recipes to help get through the vegi day. Good luck and enjoy that bacon and ham.
Dark-I'm sure that turkey bacon would be fine. To me a protein is a protein and you would get the added benefit of a little less fat. And I think that no matter what program you are on; you are going to hit a plateau. The point is to just keep going and ride it out. To be at a plateau and still be able to eat bacon is a good thing to me!

Good day, everyone! Another day, one step closer to Day 11!
Thanks for the well wishes and the welcomes, everyone. It is very encouraging to have feedback while on this journey. It makes you feel like you're not alone knowing that other people are right there walking the same road as you.
Larry, that recipe looks awesome - great idea. I absoultely love black beans (soup, dip, nachos, etc), but I was leery of subbing them in for the pinto beans. I'll have to rethink that (or maybe make it a pinto bean stoup). I dont know if I'm brave enough to sub in ribs for bacon though!
browneyedgirl - welcome and good luck on the diet! Most importantly, enjoy every meal. What impresses me the most about the diet is the quality of foods we get to eat. Good foods, for the most part unprocessed and existing in nature. When I went to my annual physical last year, my doctor couldnt believe my numbers - cholesterol, glucose, lipids etc. Neither could I frankly. He asked me "what are you doing"? I told him I try as much as I can to eat whole foods found in nature and avoid processed foods, esp. sugar and flour. I think there really might be something to that whole "caveman" diet approach. At least for my metabolism. I dont think I'm built to handle those refined foods.

Quoted for truth, Denise!
Also, my first time around, I was very strict the first few cycles about the foods - not subbing in hardly anything at all. Later on, I started to sub in fruits that I had on hand rather than making a trip to the store or other variants of meats (ham from a baked ham or pork roast instead of deli-style ham). I figured, nutritionally, could there really be a difference? I never noticed a change in the way my weight loss responded when making these switches.
I wonder if part of the reason that there are only thirty foods on each side is one of convenience. Maybe it would be too cumbersome for the program to have 50 items per side? Though, the fact that they make distinctions among various nuts and fruits seems to fly in the face of that.
Incidentally, arent the definitions of the foods hysterical? My personal favorite is
Fresh Grapefruit - This means Fresh Grapefruit.

Wow, you guys are great - it's nice to know that there is a support team here, from around the world, no less!!
Well, I went ahead and started the plan today...I didn't want to waste any more days not sure what the heck to eat!! I had been doing the calorie-counting/hi-fiber deal, and was so sick to my stomache last night (from all that freakin' fiber!) that I decided now was the time. Maybe after a few cycles, I will move the days around so I get every other weekend off.
I am on a mission to be healthy!! And who am I kidding...I want to be thin, too!! I have battled my weight my whole life, and I have always eaten much healthier (and much less) than all the skinny people I have known, so if this can rev up my metabolism, I am really excited to be doing it.
Larry, Glenda, Jane, Tintin, Denise, Dark, and Browneyed girl - thanks for the welcome!!
And Larry, that recipe looks yummy. I am more worried about the fruit day tomorrow....fruit never fills me up, so I will be pretty hungry for my sandwich in the evening!!
Happy calorie shifting!

Mamanita--Looks like we're starting on the same day. I'm a bit worred about the fruit day too, because like you, fruit doesn't fill me up either. I'm sure though with it only being day 2 we will be able to stick to it. Best of luck!
I too just want to be skinney for once! I mean, don't get me wrong, I am by no means fat. I'm very athletic and curvy, but a little more around my hips, butt and legs than I would like.
I'm having a hard time with the walking though. I am used to working out 5-6 days a week with very high intensity. It seems unlikely that I will get a better result out of just walking at a low resistance. We'll see though. I will probably just add in a few slower walks throughout the week, but still keep up with my regular workout routine.

Hey BrowneyedGirl'
I'm not changing my workout routine, either. I had major surgery in June and I started working out as soon as I could after recovery (beginning of August). I go 3 to 5 times a week, and I can't see how scaling down my workout would make any sense...
I have never been "huge" either, but I am 5'7", I have large bones, and have always been curvy. Add to that 2 cesaereans and an illness that caused weight gain (and then the hysterectomy last summer)...and I have been on a mission to get healthy and feel better (and that includes weight loss)! I have been determined and working very hard, but the scale hasn't been budging much. Granted, I have lost about 15 lbs since August, and I am wearing smaller clothes...but I have been stuck at the same weight for quite awhile now. I want results!
Keep me posted on your progress!!

I haven't changed my gym routine either. I have always gone 5 times per week and still am - I love it.
Fruit day was tough but you can eat loads in one sitting - so do. I kept looking at what I was going to have on day 3 too - that also kept me going. I think that is the beauty of this diet you know the next day is better or you don't have to wait long until 3 days off safe in the knowledge it won't undo your hard work.
Good luck ladies

Mamanita,
Congrats on your progress so far. 15 lbs is great!
I have always struggled with the yo-yo approach. When I diet, I am so gung-ho about it and I follow a very strict low calorie/low fat diet. I lose weight quickly, but it's hard to keep it up because it's impossible follow such a restricted diet for too long.
I really researched this diet before I decided to download it, and I really haven't read any bad reviews about it. I love that I am eating REAL food, not just protein shakes all day long.

Jane-- Good idea on looking ahead to see what you can have the next day! Although fruit doesn't really fill me up, I am still looking forward to the fruit day. I have always limited myself to no fruit in previous diets because of the sugar. The veggie day though, is gonna suck! Oh well, the sacrifices of looking good!

Hi all. I see concerns remain about fruit and veggie days. It's really all in our heads, because our stomachs are happy to be full no matter what we eat. Our bodies are perfectly willing to accept all fruit or all veggie for one day, plus that deli-sandwich, it's our MINDS that resist it. So, rather than wrestle my mind into the mud, I make a change on those days at breakfast. Instead of fruit or a bowl of veggies, I will have hard-boiled eggs. That's more like a real breakfast and it pleases me, and more importantly it makes the next two meals of fruit/veggies MUCH easier (don't forget the Cool Whip on the fruits!!!). The weight keeps coming off, so why torture myself?
If any of you are finding the fruit or veggie day impossible, or if they're making you dizzy, CHANGE them! The worst thing that could happen is that maybe you don't lose as much weight, but you will still lose some. Where's the harm?
About intense workouts: I love them, too. Especially the weights. But I've seen excellent results with the scaled-down aerobics. I know it feels counter-intuitive that a less intense session on the bike or treadmill will actually burn more fat, but it DOES. This is the best news I've heard in a long time.
So, on both topics, my thinking is we don't need to torture ourselves to get the results we want. And the more palatable we make this for ourselves, the more likely we are to stay with it. We're all different. What works for me may not work for you. But you do have the option of tailoring the diet and excercise to suit YOU. And that's what you should do.
Comments?
Best to all,
Larry

Hello Mamanita
Hello, I started FL4I on January 4, 2008. Start weight is 240 and want to go to 155. That is why my screen name is finally155. Say it into existence. I am glad to read your post and this gives me hope. Today is day 6 and I have followed the plan to the letter. I have now lost 3 pounds so far. I will do my goal in 10 pound increments. My first goal is to lose 60 pounds by July 1, 2008. I hope to be at an average 5 pounds per cycle, but who knows. We will see what happens. Good luck on your first day start. Tomorrow is my vege day, but I love veggies so this day should be a cinch for me. Take care, finally155.
Good luck to everyone and I will be posting to let you know my progress. Does anyone know how to get the weight loss tickler?

Welcome finally155, it is good to set yourself a realistic goal, just make sure it is realistic enough so your'e not devastated if you're just short of it. I'm like you though I love veggies and find veg day a breeze. although I have the 1oz of cheese with every meal!!!
I lost 8lbs the first cycle, 7lbs the second cycle . . . and just 4lbs the third cycle, I'm almost half way through my fourth cycle and I'll be elated if I get another 4lbs off. I'm following the plan to the letter and love having set meals, but I guess the more you lose, the slower the process?
I honestly don't know how some of you fit going to a gym 3 - 5 times a week. I have a lateral stepper machine that I stick in front of the telly and step when I get the chance, but even then it's not every day!!!
Oh I did my jeans test and I got them the whole way up, but they're still about an inch of meeting in the middle. Another 10lbs or so should do the trick for that, but I still have other clothes that will need a bit more work!!
Good luck everyone

I have a lateral thigh trainer that I use 3 times a week, I get up 45 mins earlier 3 mornings a week and stick in front of the music channels( we have a ' workout' music channel here which is great- very catchy tunes that make to want to work out!!!
That and walk 30 mins a day- works for me. a Gym is too much like hard work-lol

Good morning everyone...
Day 2 for me--I had my first fruit meal about an hour ago. Not so bad, although my stomach is feeling a bit empty! Oh well, tomorrow's food looks good so I think I can pull through today.
Finally155, I love your approach to weight loss. Sticking to 10lb increments is such a good idea. Best of luck and keep us all posted!
I, personally don't have a problem getting to the gym. It's sort of like my "treat." I love to sweat and I love to be sore the next day. I also like hitting the heavy bag, it relieves so much stress, and not to mention is a killer cardio workout.
What I usually tell people as far as motivating them to get to the gym is simply write .it in your schedule. Make it like everything else thoughout the day, an appointment. If you want to do it before or after work, just make it a point like you HAVE to do it. It's just like you HAVE to go to work to make money, so you HAVE to go to the gym to burn calories. Sounds dumb, but make it something that you absolutely have to do.
I just made a new playlist for my ipod and that has really reved up my workouts. Every other song, I increase the speed on the treadmill. So during the first song I'll have my warm up, then the next song I increase it to my regular pace, then the next song I bump it up, then the next song I bump it back down to my regular pace and so forth. Before you know it, you're done!
I am convinced that about 80% of weight loss depends on diet, so no, exercise isn't necessarily a MUST, but it's good for your heart and once you do start losing weight, you keep your body toned at the same time.
That's just my take on it though, I really hope something I said sticks out for the rest of you and helps you through your workouts.
Have a wonderful day!

Jules, thanks for the encouragement. I'll be trying them again in about a month, so will keep you posted.
Hi Browneyed Girl, I like your idea with the music on your ipod. I will definatly give that a go with my stepper machine. It's too much for me to travel to my local gym as it's the opposite direction from work. Besides, in my own home, no one can see how much I wobble when I step etc ... You sound very positive so best of luck.

Yeah, it sounds crazy, but sometimes the music makes all the difference. I definately understand about being alone to wobble on the stepper. I used to be that way in the gym, but now I sort of know my way around. Sometimes though I feel stupid hitting the heavybag, so if there is someone in the same room I'll just go do something else.
Best of luck to you too!

Browneyed girl - Hi and welcome. I did the shakes too. Yep this is soooo much better.
Tintin - Hi to you too. Yes, some of the explanations made me giggle too.
Mamanita - how did your fruit day go? Hope this diet is the one that works. ( for you and me too)
Finally155 - and you, welcome. How did the veggie day go. I love veg an made a lovely soup which i always enjoy last time I did it but I must say it was the one day I had mega cravings. I´m interested to see how I go this time round.
Gleanda - YAY. You got your pants all the way up. THATS GREAT. You must be so chuffed.
I´m on day 5 today. I´m afraid I went a bit mad last night and ended up drinking two glasses of wine and eating some chocolate!! Seemed like I really had to do it at the time. I´m a bit fed up about it but decided to put it behind me and just carry on.
Its great to see the board so chatty. Today especially, its made me want to really go for it.

Chati--
Don't even think about the chocolate again. Just put it behind you because today is a new day. Don't dwell on it because, atleast in my experience, you'll be more likeley to cheat again, which you definitely don't want to do.
So start today fresh, maybe add in an extra 1/2 hour workout this weekend and you'll be good to go.

So far, fruit day is not too bad....I had an apple and an orange for Meal #1 and I am satisfied enough....mind over matter....
As far as the gym and working out, well, if I can do it, anybody can. I am a single mom (sole custody) with a 5-year old and a 2-year old. I have a very professional job that I work full time, so I leave at 5 pm, hit the nearby gym and get whatever workout I can in by 6, then pick up the kids, go home, make dinner, lunch for the next day for my son, meals for me at work, give the kids baths, help my son with homework, get them to bed, etc etc, and maybe finally sit down at 8:30 or 9:00 to have an hour or two of peace before I go to bed. Believe it or not, that time at the gym takes a lot of stress away!! I AM going to take it a little easier on the treadmill, though, and instead of going way uphill fast, I may go a little slower and at a much smaller incline. I do feel like I still need to hit the weight machines some because I don't want floppy arms (eww!), and I want to keep my legs toned. Any thoughts??
It's great to see new people joining this forum along with me. Studies say we will all have better results if we have support (even online works).
Welcome Finally155! you WILL get there!
Congrats Fatchops - keep up the good work!! It's a great feeling getting those old, smaller clothes on!! Yay!!
Chati - don't beat yourself up about the chocolate...it's over and done with, and you didn't commit a crime!!! I don't think that extra glass of wine will hurt anything either! After all, a glass is an awfully vague term... LOL

Oh, and Browneyed....
Keep chanting:
Fruit IS filling, Fruit IS filling, Fruit IS filling.....
LOL. That sandwich is going to taste like a steak to me tonight!! Ha Ha By the way, yesterday was very easy, I was never hungry at all! I am just thrilled that I can have REAL cheese here and there, and on my veggies, etc.

Yes, fruit is filling, fruit is filling! Haha- I am pretty hungry but only have an hour to wait until more fruit, so I'll be ok. I really can't wait for that sandwich tonight though.
I agree, yesterday was not bad at all. I'm pretty sure that once we make it through this first cycle and see the kind of results we get, it will be even easier for the next cycle.
As far as toning exercises, lunges are the best for lower body. I usually do 3 sets of 15 off each leg. Start out slow though because they're a killer! If you start off with too many, you won't be able to walk! Then of course I always hit the inner/outer thigh machines at the gym.
I admire your dedication with being a single mom and working full time. I commend you for being able to take care of your children and also making it a must to take care of yourself too.

Hi Finally155 and welcome. Click on my ticker and you will go to the website to make your own. When it is finished and you get your code, use the first one (bbCode). That one is for forums like this. They're fun to make.
Weigh in today. Only down 1 pound but 1 pound lost after the holidays means NO weight gain. Have a great weekend everyone.
