Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I meant that I was a hopeless case when it comes to maintaining my weight. I can't do it no matter what I do so I have to stick to this plan for life. I'm fine with that though cause the cheat weekend is something I can look forward to.

I'm down 3 lbs today. It took 2 weeks to gain 12 lbs back so I know it could take me just as long to lose it again.

You Know, Omayra, I am the same way....I HAVE to live the plan(with added veggies, salads and fruits) for life.  It is hard to admit that this is the case.  We just want to diet AND BE DONE WITH IT!!!!  But look around at all the overweight people in the world.  We have a choice...we can join them or fight this obesity.  I am grateful that we have found a way of eating that helps us keep it off.  I add extra veggies or fruits or salads at goal...but I have to stay with the plan or I gain too.  Bummer:angry:! I wish I could eat everything that my heart desires:pizza::birthday_cake::beer::cone::birthday_cake:...but that is not how it works for me...and probably most of us that have weight struggles on this site.

I am happy to hear that you are still planning on attending school...that is great!
Hugs
SS:sun:

I had green beans with grated carrots and some marinara sauce over the top...red and green vegetables, right? It tasted like pasta...which DH had instead of the green beans.  I find ways of avoiding the pasta/bread but still having the same flavor.  I love spaghetti...so this is my fix.  I add extra oregano and sometimes a little grated italian cheese(I know...a small but wonderful deviation..and waaaay better than caving into the pasta).  It works for me!:chewing:

Thank you everyone for such support. Really, you are all amazing! I have been able to stick to plan all of today...but the problem I was having is gaining, even on days I stick to plan, I gain, so we'll see what happens tomorrow am. With all that, in my mind I think why stick to it????? Well, I think I need to, because food is not your friend....at least the way we make it out to be. I can trudge along, I know I can. That means Omayra, you can too...and Web, I know you can too (so sorry for your loss, hang in there dear friend) We all can. Life throws things our way, and the one thing this diet shows us is how to eat. It doesen't say well......if this happens, or that happens......it says EAT LIKE THIS! So, we can just keep on going, practicing what we have learned even though we dont want to. Hang in there guys...I know we have it in us to keep on going.

Zeva - You are so right. It is so easy to blame this or that for our cheating.  But we really are in control of our choices, and we need to realize that we are only hurting and cheating ourselves.  So it's silly to try to fool ourselves!  No one else pays the price, but us.

I have to tell you what happened today.  A sales rep came in the office who had not seen me since I lost the weight.  She walked in the door and started screaming... "OH MY GOD!  You look awesome!"  Here I was feeling so bad about myself having gained 6.5 lbs., and feeling like I was on my way up the fat ladder, and her reaction reminded me of how far I have come.  That really made me feel great, and I don't want to blow it. I know most of my problem at the moment is hormonal but I have made bad choices which have definitely added to this problem.  I feel so much better when I eat healthy.  When I eat really fattening stuff, it is just an instant gratification that is sooo temporary, it is never worth it.  I feel so bad afterwards.

I hope everyone realizes that we have choices this holiday season (and every day), so we need to make the best of them.  Moderation is key, if you are going to "splurge".  We can be satisfied with small bites rather that the whole pie (so to speak).

P.S.  Sunshine, I love your mock pasta idea.

I just have no willpower on cheat days. If I deviate for one meal once or twice each cycle, I do ok but I just can't go off for more than just a weekend or all the weight creeps up. I acknowledge that's my fault. Therefore, I have to stick to the plan for life.

 Morning all

Brilliant advice from everyone on here, this is for life, I have had a weight problem since I was in my 20s but to be honest I have never been really slim just average (healthy) but I did so much sport I guess it kept the genes at bay!! So with that in mind and Webs advice about the holidays I am not going to splurge but have a little of what I like.

Web, Zeva and Om think how far you have come so far - you are stars :star:

Well I did a 100% fruit day - yay!! I am down 4.5lb so now 192lb.  Next weigh in the 180s - watch this space.....

Hi All!

Zeva I am so so sorry for your loss sweetie. You are such an inspiration because even tho you are going thru such a hard and emotional time you are still here and going strong.
Same goes to you Web. So sorry you lost your little friend. I could understand your pain because I have lost pets in the past. GerberaDayzee, I can also relate to you in your scary experience.  We have 4 shih Tzus (3 girls and 1 boy) that are more our kids really since my Hubby & I don’t have children yet. Last week when we came from vacation, I realized one of my girls was in heat so I took her to get spayed. (the other 2 girls have already been spayed). After I bring her home we noticed that when they closed her up it looked different from the way it did on our other 2 girls. Well, to make a story short, I guess they did a really bad job with the stitches, everything opened up and all her guts came out of her…..we had to rush with her to an emergency veterinarian hospital where they took her in and they had to do another surgery, clean her organs to make sure she wouldn’t get a major infection.  The poor baby lost one of her organs & she had to stay hospitalized for 3 days. We almost lost her!:crying: The doctor still gave us a 60% chance she might not make it.:nono:  Right now she is home with us recuperating and getting supper spoiled! We are of course paranoid & I get up every other hour in the middle of the night to check up on her. It was such a horrifying experience!! We are now in more debt, but money is just material stuff. In time we’ll get out of it….we much rather have our lil dog alive and we thank God for that!
Sunshine, am still here but I guess lurking for now. I haven’t had a chance to get back on the program. Right now I don’t have the budget either to buy all the things I need, but as soon as I am able to I’ll be back on the :horse:horse.

DK...I am so verynsorry to hear that your little doggie has had such a rough patch...you too! I am glad to know you are still with us!  Feel free to post and hang out until you are able to fully engage...even trying to stay as close to the program helps keep us stable and not gaining so much over the holidays.  Let us know how she is doing...and how you are too!  You are missed!

Hi Guys, been a while since I posted, I did ok with the diet but ended up not feeling well and getting sick alot (not from the diet).

To make a long story short I need to stay away from grains and yeast and a huge list of foods that accompanies those to lol my GOD IS IT A LONG LIST.

Has anyone heard of a yeast free/grain free diet? I dont think I can do this one very well due to the fact that I cannot have much fruit at all.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Hi Teppi
I am so sorry you are not feeling well!...yes, I am on a gluten free diet...basically grain free.  I occasionally have rice or corn which are not actually grain.  I do have other foods I can not eat...I understand your frustration!  I have been doing this diet the whole time with my restrictions except for the very beginning when I thought I could eat oatmeal.  Oh well, I am here for you if you need advice or encouragement.  I eat mostly veggies and on fruit day I do eat apples.  You could skip fruit day altogether and do an extra light veggie day..salads and broth soups instead.  Can you have seeds? I make a flax seed bun that tastes just like whole wheat out of eggs and flax etc. Don't give up Teppi...you can do this...there are creative ways around all the hurtles...if you want to continue.

Thank, Kitty. It's so nice to see you.  I know it some people have had this problem recently on the forum.  I don't know what is going on.  I think once you LOG in to the forum, and it "sees" you, then you start getting notified again.  Let me know if you start getting notifications again.

Teppi - Nice to see you back. There is a cookbook, probably more that are yeast free recipes.  If you Google "No yeast recipes", "foods without yeast", etc. you can get a bunch of ideas and recipes.  Here is a really good one from Suite101 that lists all the foods in all the different categories that you can eat that are yeast free... http://womenshealth.suite101.com/article.cfm/approved_food_for_yeastfree_diets   Keep in touch and let us know how things are going!

I'm thinking about trying the DG diet... question, I don't remember if you get cheat days after the 10 days or if you start the diet all over back at day 1.  ANYONE??

Jodice...were you on the Beyond Calories or the regular FL4I diet?  I thought you were doing the 11 day diet which prints off a menu each time...this IS called DG(Diet Generator).  The 10 day diet in the handbook is called the 10 Rules Diet I believe.  You can just start over after 10 days. The  Beyond Calories plan(also a 10 day diet but different from 10 rules diet)...you can also just start over after your 10 days.  The DG(Diet Generator) is the only one where you must take a break.  Personally, I do not take three cheat days on maintaining...I just keep going and have a treat meal once in a while or just add more salads/veggies/fruits to my meal plan.
I hope this helps!

Jodice...you could try BC and just take a couple "choice days" instead of restarting after day 10 if you want.  I think Omayra and Zeva have tried that.  They lengthened the 10 days to 11 or 12 and then took their choice days as usual.

Well I almost deviated today cause I got invited to a birthday party for my neighbor's son. However I couldn't go cause my kids started acting up. I wasn't going to reward bad behavior on top of having to deviate from the plan.

Me not going was not a bad thing for me but of course my kids weren't happy LOL.

I lost 6 out of the 12 pounds I gained during my husband's R&R. That was after fruit day of course. Tomorrow I'll be on day 6 of the diet. After eating all protein today I'm looking forward to my fro-yo.

Good Morning everyone...... I have missed you guys!!!

I went off the plan for a couple of weeks, because I was getting soooo miserable with only losing a couple of pounds each time, although everyone else seems to lose several every cycle.... I have gained back 2 lbs so am currently sitting at 164 and plan on starting a new cycle on Monday morning.... I am looking to kickstart this time, and hope to lose at least 6 lbs... I just got my Wii so am going to exercise twice a day for half an hour on that and see if that will help me along.  I really would love to be in the 150's by the end of the year, but i don't seem to move past 162!!!! GRRRRRRR

anyway... not sure which team i will be in now... perhaps still the SV's...... so I am looking forward to checking in on Monday morning.

Enjoy your weekend!!!!!!

Omayra...good going!

Shaywin....I lost about 2 pounds per cycle except for the first cycle.  There were cycles that I lost only one....but I kept going.  You can look at it this way...you can stop following the plan and gain:shock: 1-2 pounds every two weeks or you can diet and lose 1-2 pounds.  We are all different....some lose fast.:rabbit:..some slow:turtle:.  Some of the fast losers also gain faster:rabbit::rabbit::rabbit:!!
I reached my goal weight 1-2 pounds at a time.  I watched some around here  reporting big losses, but I persisted...and here I am still slim and healthy two years later!! I do find that when I do a cycle to bring me back to goal...I usually lose about 4 pounds...it is sort of like doing a "first cycle"....so that is good.

I'm backkkkkkkkkkkkkk.........

It's been almost a whole semester since I've posted on here.. (over three months). So much in my life has changed for the better (and in some parts the worse). Before I left for college I started on the FL4I for roughly a month and a half. As an 18 year old male, I started at roughly 200 pounds at 6'1" (pretty overweight for my size but not obese by any measure). I started FL4I and a regular, rigorous training exercise that would gain muscle at the same time burning fat. At mid august I measured over 40 inches lost all over my body and 17 pounds lost... I weighed 183 for the first time in at least 4 years. I looked great and felt great. I knew I had more pounds to go but with the upcoming semester of college I had much more to do/worry about than my body.

During the past three months, I've eaten more food than probably everyone reading this thread combined (I had high metabolism thanks to this diet, which made me hungry every 2-3 hours, and I'm at a college campus walking everywhere!). The first month I measured no weight gain... despite only making it to the gym 2 times at most a week. The second month I started slacking off and barely made it to the gym ever... while maintaing my very unhealthy eating habits to satisfy my hunger.

I recently measured myself last week and I weigh 189 pounds. I figure 6 pounds gained during 3 months of unhealthy eating is NOT BAD at all. Now with summer coming up in 5 months... I want to start to look ahead to maybe the 170's or maybe high 160's range and be in the best shape of my life. So here I am again... back "home".

I don't plan on starting the diet anytime soon... not until after christmas passes... but I have started going back to the gym the past week and that reminded me of YOU GUYS!

If any newbies have questions about the diet or its long term impact, I'd be glad to help out.. I'm not as experienced as several members in the forum but I still remember being in your place.

Good night all... its 2 AM which is still early college time ;)

I had a very minor deviation. One of my combos was fro-yo and oatmeal. At the yogurt shop I go to I topped my fro-yo with granola. I know I might probably have gained back a lb as a result but that's ok cause it's my TOM right now.

I held steady at 169 this morning. When I start my new cycle. I'm gonna take Christmas weekend off and start again on a whole new cycle that following Monday.

I'm honestly looking forward to Christmas passing.

Losing/Robert...WELCOME BAAAACK! It is great to hear how you have maintained your losses.   It is hard being at college and trying to hold everything together at once.  School is stressful and there is so much :pizza::pizza::pizza::pizza: and :beer:around..lol.

Make a fresh start next semester...perhaps try for a more "balanced" approach..rather than "all or nothing"  Try to eat right "most of the time"...try to exercise "most of the time" and do try to get more sleep:moon::star: (unfortunately..lack of sleep can make us gain:shock:)  I know, I know:tongue:...I remember those late night term papers and studying for tests...brutal!  It may not be realistic to follow the plan strictly at school or even that enjoyable...so go for more moderation and just do as much as you are able to stay healthy and trim.  Poor eating effects more than just the scale...that's for sure!

We are here for you!  Thanks for offering your help and support!  We need your enthusiam this time of year!

Thanks so much for stopping by and sharing your story of how it went this semester.  Don't be a stranger...just jump right back in with us while you are on break...we'd love to "see" more of you...or should I say "less" of you ( weight wise):grin::grin:..lol.
It is also great to have guys hanging out as you bring us a fresh perspective and help us on the exercise end of things too!

Hugs to you!

Hi everyone, Sunshine, Kitty, Zeva, Jane, Omayra, Dayzee, Combogirl, Shaywin, Shauna, Jodice, Nkateko, Robert, and everyone else who may be :binoculars: lurking. I had a busy long weekend and am ready for bed and to start the week again.  The weekend just flew by with everything to do in preparation for Christmas, and parties, etc.  And this coming week is crazy! I have my grandson's 5th birthday party tomorrow after work, and then I am watching my baby granddaughter afterward, while they go miniature golfing.  Then Wednesday after work I have a meeting in Oakland (I loathe going to Oakland, but I promised my boss I would go ), then another meeting Thursday night on the opposite end of the Bay, a Christmas dinner party Friday night, and another Christmas get together Saturday.  How the heck am I supposed to get my stuff done? It's the last weekend before Christmas.  I feel overly stressed and I need to diet, so I am going to try real hard to not let anything stop me this week.  It's all about preparation.  It's hard when your time is being swallowed up by too many activities.  My New Years resolution is to practice the word "NO" more often. :nono:

Combogirl - Great job on losing 6 lbs!!!  Woohoo!

Robert - Kudos to you for a job well done not gaining the weight back.  And it is great to hear from you, too.  Keep in touch!

Sunshine - Thank you for always being so encouraging and helpful to everyone.  You are very much appreciated!!!

Today is my veggie day and I made this tomato soup recipe

http://www.recipezaar.com/Homemade-Tomato-Basil-Soup-with-Cheese-Toasts-35594

I'm pretty much having it for all my meals today and freezing the leftovers for next veggie day.

I sprinkled an oz of shredded Italian cheese blend and it's fairly satisfying.

Yes, Happy Anniversary, Larry!  We miss you!  Say BOO when you have a chance and let us know how you are doing!!

Sunshine, thank you for remembering this!

Jane - Hang in there.  It is harder during all the holiday parties, I know.  Not impossible, just harder.  I know I am struggling at the moment, but we have to keep our focus on the prize.  I love how Kate Moss put it... "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels".  I would substitute the word "skinny" for "thin", though... hehehe.

Omayra - I love tomato soup so much.  It is one of my favorite things.  :yum:

Web, I love tomato soup too, but it's the creamy tomato-basil soup that I love the most. I enjoy the modified version on veggie day. I honestly can't stand eating raw veggies. I can only eat them all day if they're baked, grilled, sauteed or a soup.

Looking forward to having my strawberries and banana milkshake tomorrow as well as oatmeal for breakfast.

When I get strawberries with the banana milkshake, I always add frozen strawberries to it, and it's the best diet smoothie in the world!

I get orange/pineapple smoothie and oatmeal as a combo so I'm going to just mkae it a breakfast ofb oatmeal with banana slices. Yummy!

Hi everyone and dare I say...Happy Monday??? I decided to do a DG fruit day to get my BC started up today...I dont know if it's my sinuses, or lovely fruit day, but I have such a bad headache!Since tomorrow on BC is mostly fruit, I am eating my lighter leftover Thai food instead of the sandwich. I know not even close to the same, but...I dont want it to go bad! No rice or noodles =) I feel freezing....and need to just sit and relax a bit. So, I'm here...popping in to say hello to my inspiring motivators...day 1 almost over...day 2 here we come!

Sunshine....I'd have to reply with a "what's that?" that's sounds like something along the lines of relaxation???? Hahahaha..... I'm just going to turn in early tonight. My DH made the girls sandwiches for school **I still had to make his lunch** but it was a thoughtful gesture all the same...he even did the dishes! If that isn't enough reason to keep on going, I dont know what is!

The party is over and I am finally home. I love my grandkids, but the boys are so full of energy... I am beat!  Poor little Lilah, she just watches them and I can't imagine what she thinks of all the noise and physical activity.

Sunshine, let me know how much I owe you. :tongue::wink::tongue::wink::tongue:

Zeva, you're hubby sounds like a keeper. Glad you made it through day 1!

I just wanted to pop in and say :moon:goodnight:star: and keep up the good work  to everyone who is making it through this time of year with all the temptations.

I had a minor deviation. I was treated to ice cream at Cold Stone creamery and I couldn't say no.

It's my veggie day too. I ordered a small milkshake.

I just finished my last meal and it was another bowl of tomato soup.

It's my TOM so I'm not really expecting to have a significant weight loss until after the holidays.

Folks,

2 years to the day since I found FL4I.  Haven't gained anything back.  That's 25lbs.  Mind you, I'd love to say goodbye to another 10, but so what.  I'd just like to thank all of you (you know who you are) who were with me during that time.  You helped me and I hope I helped you.  I never thought I'd fit comfortably into 34" jeans again and now it's the new normal.  Still have hope of hitting 32", but then I'd have to dust off those white disco pants, and frankly, no one wants to see a 53 year-old white guy in skin-tight whites.  Yikes!

There are just some things middle-aged white guys should not do.  #1:  Dance.  Actually, there ought to be a law.  I've seen men my age (usually in suits) attempting to dance to the music of their youth, or even worse, to Lady Ga Ga, and I just want to call 911.  Guys... please... stop!  I beg of you.  That's #1.  There is no #2.

That said, everyone has to buy The Beatles new box set now.  Stereo or mono, doesn't matter.  Buy it.  Ladies of all ages are welcome to dance.  Men of a certain age, please God wait until everyone else has gone to sleep.  Plug in the earphones and play it loud!  But for God sake don't try to move!

Thanks again you wonderful friends.  Couldn't have done it without you.

It's great to see you back Larry!

It's wonderful to hear that you haven't gained any weight back.

It's funny what you say about dancing. It may not be a good idea for a middle aged man to either dance to the music of their youth or to dance to Lady Gaga but I see nothing wrong with ballroom dancing. I think ballroom dancing is respectable for all ages

Well seriously, it's great hearing from you!

Larry...we sure have missed you and your sense of humor!  You have a way of writing that puts us right into the scene...lol  I am still chuckling about picturing you in your white disco pants under the mirrored ball...what a sight!  Perhaps Omayra is right!  Dust off your suit and hit the ballroom..you would be dashing!
Don't be a stranger...we could all use a little "Larry Lift" round these parts.  You make us laugh and our day is brighter!
Congrats on still fitting into those 34" waist jeans!  Now that is amazing for "a man of a certain age"...if you doubt that, just take a trip to the mall or worse yet...a buffet restaurant:shock:   Keep up what ever you are doing...it is working!
Hugs to you!

Larry, you have been a blessing to this forum! Congratulations on 2 years....that is awesome! You are a true example of how to live the FL4I way even when life throws you curve balls. Thank you for all you contribute! And just in case...no one should be dancing to Lady Ga Ga, BUT Lady Ga Ga! lol....

Web, sounds like you had a blast!!!! Lilah must be growing so fast!

Omayra, it happens.....you have been doing so well, I'm sure it wont make too much of a dent in your losses.
