Hi everyone...I agree the holidays are a killer.  This week has been office party week..not good!!  I must jump back on the wagon.   Its so easy when I am following the plan, but once I allow myself "one little nibble" it derails me for a day or so and I find myself gaining and losing the same 2 lbs.   Must keep trying though....

Good luck with the holidays,

ruby

Hi everyone!! I know it's been tough with all the temptations but we can do it. Did you guys see the finale for the Biggest Loser? WOW!! I would like to try it but after I do this one for about 2-3 months. As for me I have been off the diet for 7 days now. Not quite sure how much I gained back since my TOM came into play and I usually gain from 5-10 lbs of water or I don't know weight. Hopefully tomorrow I will start my 3rd cycle and do it for 14 days instead of 11 since it will be a hoilday for me around the 31st or the 1st. One thing is for sure, like never before I have had these crazy cravings for Mexican hot chocolate with butter cookies! And that is exactly what I have been having. Must be the TOM cravings! I hope you guys are doing great!

I had a relatively good weekend.  I had a party Friday night with good food, pleanty to drink, but the ton of dancing seemed to help.  We went out for breakfast which was not good (not on cheat days) and then lunch Sunday was off as well.

However, all in all I ended up weighing the same I did on Friday so that is good.  Only 5.5 lbs to meet my goal by the 29th and 1.5 to meet my commitment so we will see how it goes! :)  Christmas won't make it easy, but I love it any way!  However, I think that I will do what Teresa is doing at the holidays and avoid the extra stress of the competition at the holidays.

Not that I can complain to be down 10lbs lighter than before Thanksgiving! :pig:

quite, Dobie!...

I have noticed, thinking about it, that I am really really looking forward to the 1st of January - getting stuck in again to watching what I eat and also tomorrow getting stuck into exercising strongly and regularly (we will see how that goes!)

It is funny, how contrary we can be... because I say to myself, stay off the diet and forget about it until after new year, my subconscious is more keen to get back into it! Yet, if I had said, no, stay on the diet and be good at this time, my subconscious would have rebelled and I would probably pig out and gain 5 kg (10lb).

Always a thing to remind myself - this is a lifetime change, not a 3 month fad - it is not about how well I can diet but losing the pounds for life.

I was reminded of my reward once I lose the weight today - a tattoo, once I have lost all my weight, don't want to do it beforehand as I think it would go all weird once my skin goes back to a normal tension. Some ladies were talking about it today.

Go well all!

can't even spell my own name! And we saw the Biggest Loser finale yesterday too, amazingly - usually we are months behind you lot, the joys of internet downloads! I like watching that, it is a good kick in the bum.

I agree.  I am really intersted to see how I do since I am off of work tomorrow and Friday (when we celebrate our Anniversary), then Saturday is with family, Sunday is Christmas on my wife's side and Monday and Christmas on my side.  If I can do the rules and stay clean (not snack all day or over eat), I will be fine.

I have a touch extra incentive because I have been very good on the diet this round (today is day 10), but I am currently stuck at 208.  I need 207 on the 29th for my competition so as long as I do not gain much over the weekend, I will be fine.  I guess I will need to keep up my exercise which I usually don't do on weekend, but I will be this time (Christmas included?  <Shiver>  )

If I forget to check in, I wish everyone a blessed Christmas and a time of renewal, joy, and peace!

P.S.

I am really pleased as I weigh in this morning after all the Christmas parties, goodies and even the celebrations, I am at my goal of 5% weight loss since right before Thanksgiving.  I weigh in this Friday and should be good to go on my competition and starting the new year heading to my ultimate goal in the 180 to 190 range!

Just had to crow because I realized if I did all this dieting and being careful and blew my goal, I would be so dissappointed.

I am also hopeful that both my brothers may be coming on board the diet soon.  I hope they do and get the same success we have enjoyed!

Thanks, and to you too! And congrats on your success.

I'm sitting in an airport waiting for my flight to our big family Christmas, albeit a day late!

I have come to the conclusion that most people bar myself only check this forum when they are at work! I have been checking in every day to see if anyone has something to say and no.

Made me think about how people tend to only come to these things when we are willing to change things, and if we were going totally off the rails and knew it, we would avoid this forum like the plague!

I know the moderators say only post positive posts, however, if things are not going well, how do we get the support we need?

Time for some honesty here - I weighed myself on xmas day, as that happened to be my weekly weigh day, and I have almost completely put back all the weight on that I took off from the start of the diet!

Who knows what New Years Day will bring, being my next weigh day.

However, after getting in a big tail spin and having a huge dummy spit about it (one whole day was wasted with that), I am still focussed on losing the weight I want and need to lose, but am not sure how to do it. This diet is all very well and good for weight loss, but what happens when you go off it? I don't want to stay on a diet for the rest of my life, even for the next year! It's not something I want, and I am totally convinced that it shouldn't have to be necessary anyway.

Surely there is a healthy way of being that will naturally cause me to get to my perfect weight (a reminder, maybe I should read Deepak Chopra's book of the same name again), rather than artificially eating abnormally in order to get there. I know I resist that bigtime.

Shouldn't it just be that, once the emotional issues are dealt with (and that is what I have been doing this past month, hopefully dealing with them), the motivation to exercise will increase and to comfort eat decrease. I hope so, this has gone on long enough and I am tired of it.

This is becoming too long, and I don't want to be negative! Happy new year all - my goal is to answer the above question - before the end of January!

laurie and incheck, I'm new too and was planning to start round one on Wednesday, 1/3.  That's because I've got a lunch date Tuesday I don't want to break!.  I want to lose 30 pounds, but I'm saying 10 pounds to make it seem in reach.  When I get there I'll say 10 more.

This is weight put on after quitting smoking, and not enough exercise now that I'm retired.  I figure if I could finally quit smoking, I can manage to lose the excess weight.   At my age it's really time to think along more healthy lines.

Let's follow up with each other, keep each other on the ball.  I think we can do it.

And to those Dallas fans, Tony Romo grew up about 20 miles from here, out in the county.  So he's our local celebrity too, and a really nice guy although our football loyalty is to that other team from around here.

Hey Teresa,

If you find the answer to that question, please share it with us, because I agree, there does have to be a better, more natural way to do this.  However, to help you on your quest for answers, take a look at this month's issue of Oprah.  It has some pretty inspirational stuff on eating right and forming new habits.

Happy New Year everyone, and welcome to the new members.

cheat days - you can have what you want, however, what I and others have learnt is to keep the water up (10 glasses a day), and I think the thing about the 4 meals a day is recommended, not sure, however I found that a little tricky sometimes.

What I have noticed is that bread, pasta, rice and potatoes appear to be my biggest problems - if I stay off them I do ok, and I don't have much of an issue with sweet stuff.

Happy New Year all!

The idea is to eat whatever you like.  The trick is to keep to the same rules: 4 meals, >2.5 hours between meals, no snacking, drink your water and DON'T OVER EAT!

That last one is the hardest, but it is the key.

hi
I downloaded the list last night and am starting the diet today. I have to lose about 30 pounds. Maybe Laurie, Manda, Margret and me can be a group !!

i have always been slightly heavy, although my bad-eating habits during exams has contributed to a sudden increase:sad:.

I tried e-diets for three weeks, and it hasnt worked for me. i did try a number of diet pills-i ended up putting on weight.

I really hope this diet works(fingers-crossed) for me, as it has on a number of people:smile:.

I will keep posting to let you all know if the diet did get through me!

Best of luck, Archcatz, Laurie, Manda, and Margret!  You guys can do it and I believe it can work for anyone, but you have to make it work for you.  It is a way of eating that is not uncommon.  The only stretch here is the food choices and these are all healthy natural foods!

Hi everyone!  I'm new to the boards and FL4I.

I just found this diet yesterday and purchased it today.  I can't wait to get started but that brings me to my first question.  We're having a be-lated holiday celebration Saturday so I'm wondering, should I start tomorrow then just repeat a day (because "cheating" on saturday is inevitable) or should I wait until Sunday to start?

Anyway, I've been fighting my weight for the past few years and I'm really excited about this.  I've tried other things like WW and lots of exercise but I eventually plateau before I want to.  I'm at 185-190 right now.  190 being the MOST I've ever weighed and I'd like to get down to 155ish but I'd be happy with 165 at this point.  I think my weight came from a combination of stress, birth control and quiting smoking.  All of which are unavoidable for the time being.  I'll never smoke again even if it would help me lose weight.  BC is necissary as I've tried every method possible that's not invasive and the pills are the lesser of the evils.  And being a full time student and also working full time makes stress but until I'm done w/ school I just have to learn to deal with it.

Anyway,  I'm glad to have found a forum dedicate to this diet and can't wait to get started.

Start now.  Right away.

Ulitimately, you have to do what helps you stick to it.  But there is not adverse physical affects to getting started and you get a jump start!

My brother just started and I told him the same...if you fall off one day, get right back on and keep going.  If you find yourself in a situation where you need to eat foods not listed on your menu, improvise with lean protiens or carbs as dictated.

But remember the way of eating rules: four meals, 2.5 hours between meals (minimum), and drink your water (especially before your celebration.)  Finally, don't snack.  Eat to satisfaction, but when you are done, stop until your next meal.

You will succeed! :star:

Whats nice is this shopping list isn't much different than my usualy list and there's nothing specialty or particularlu expensive on it.

Hello, All!  Boy did Christmas and New Year put a dent in my diet!  I took off 5 lbs when I did my first 11 days, and I've only put back on about 3, so I started again yesterday.  Fruit day today, not too bad.  My first day off this time will be the 13th, when I'm going to see The Reverend Horton Heat with my friend.  Hopefully, I'll feel comfy enough to wear my black wiggle skirt!  I have to tell you, though, today, I put on a dress that I haven't worn in years.  The last time I was able to "fit" into it was in 2004, and it was too tight then.  The exercise helps more than we think!  Anyway, back to the drawing board, as they say, and I wish you all a VERY Happy New Year!  *smooch*

Well, I started yesterday and I very quickly discovered my 2 big problems.
1) Giving up my morning milk.  For years I've had milk with or for breakfast every day and now I can't.  Boy is that an adjustment.  I'm afraid when I can have milk that I might gorge myself which bring me to
2) knowing when I'm satisfied vs. full.  I've always eaten till I knew I was full which 15 minutes later left me stuffed.  I think I did ok because I never felt too full yesterday and I wasn't really hungry either until it got close to time to eat again.  So, I think ate ok.  ??  Of course, I'm also PMSy so I feel bloated and I also have a hard time telling the difference between bloated and stuffed.

Anyway, today is a fruit day and I think this might be harder.  I had 1 peach and 1 orance for breakfast about an hour and a half ago and I'm already begining to feel hungry again.

I was wondering have the others- Laurie, Manda, and Margret are doing. The first day was kinda difficult i felt hungry all the time, but I figured it was because I didnt eat enough, also I was running to the loo every 20 minutes.

I am going to continue the diet for the full 11 days and then decide if this diet does work for all.  Good luck to all

Thank you for all the encouragment Dobie!!!

Hi everyone! How about those holidays! Yikes food everywhere!! I have been off the diet for about 12 days now. I have gained back about 5-6 lbs.  I have to say that this way of eating (Not DIET) seriously is the best way. I find myself not being able to eat large amounts of food considering I have been off it for a while. I still have the 4 meals, lots of water, exercise, but only one cheat meal. Unfortunately my cheat meal is the last meal of the day and that means i feel heavy and can't burn it off! Hopefully I will start on mon. I was thinking to do it for 2 weeks straight with only 2 cheat days. Has anyone tried this? Dobie? Well I am glad to see new people join and let's try to keep each other motivated.  As far as the Atkins goes I did that on and off for 3 yrs and only gained more weight and food allergies! I personally don't recommend doing it very strict. Besides when you do cheat on the atkins you gain a whole bunch of it back quick!!

Hmm...Catherine, your question is a hard one to answer because the answer may not be encouraging.  We have had several come on this board and stick to the diet and not lose weight.  I am not sure why as they said they stuck with it.

I can tell you from other things I have read, that the way of eating is definately a healthy one.  If you can find any knock on this (Nevd, chime in here), it is that the foods are so limited.  However, they are wholesome home cooked foods which is very healthy.  Water and exercise are always good ideas.  And most people will espouse eating more meals with less food at each meal.

Perhaps you have alergies to some of your food or you are doing something that may sabotoge you.  For example, I read of a person who ate breath mints all day from habit.  It kept their blood sugar up and caused their insulin levels to be elevated causing weight gain (preventing loss).

Is there anything you are not doing that the diet suggests?  Exercise, water, stopping when satisfied, waiting between meals, no snacking etc.?

Dobie

PS My brother has lost good weight in his first week, but I will let him post so I don't steal his thunder.

I have never tried this.  When I want to buckle down, I follow the diet for 11 days and then I just pick healthy foods for my cheat days: Fruits, veggies, home made foods with low fats but pleanty of variety!  That way you don't gain weight, but you get variety!

Nancy,

There are many ideas posted and even a thread on recipes.  Can you help us be of assistance by being more specific, please?

I assume you are wanting to hear from others on weight loss as I have posted my success...my brother is doing quite well on his first cycle and many others here are starting with the new year and will hopfully post soon.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Catherine,

delurking here to suggest perhaps it is still early days? It is now four days later and how are you going? I was wondering if perhaps it may have been your time of the month? That always appears to muck around with my weight generally.

When I am actively dieting I was weighing every day, and discovered that my weight would only change every second day, go figure. I know it is not recommended to do that, and I think the reason for that is your body goes through normal weight fluctuations anyway, going up and down due to water loss, tom, gawd knows what else....

My plan at the moment is to follow the plan loosely (my state of mind is not such that I am willing to be that rigid, perhaps after these summer holidays finish) - meaning, having as little carbs as possible, and more protein than normal, drinking my water (which is still a bit of a struggle, as I am drinking my tea with milk and sugar throughout the day).

The big difference though is to start cranking up the exercise - I know the diet says if you want to lose weight fast, don't go doing heaps of exercise, and I understand the reason for this - muscle weighs more than fat, so if you exercise and diet, your weight won't drop much, but boyoboy your body starts looking better! I have a goal of getting as fit as I can possibly get this year, and if my sister who has just turned 52 can start running marathons at 50, then I at 41 can do the same! I have a home gym, and my daughter is now going to preschool 4 days a week, so we cycle her down to that, and that is a terrific workout for me, so on the other three days I plan to run or swim or something, with a regular weights workout in there, as I have discovered when I went camping last week how much I have let go my physical strength and fitness.

This won't help me lose weight fast initially, but in the long term, will, coupled with the principles from the diet, be more healthy for me, giving me fitness and strength, and because of that, weight loss.

my take on this is that there is often something that we do subconsciously that we forget we do, but discover later is really making a major difference. For instance, not drinking the water makes a big difference. My cups of tea with milk and sugar make a difference. That third or fourth glass of wine, or maybe subsitituting with a beer makes a difference.

Or of course, there could be a medical condition. Or, as in my case, psychological - I put on weight as a protection for my emotions, and no matter what I did, my psyche would say, nope, not losing it! And it takes big efforts to change that one as it is something we have built up over our lifetime. Habits - tricky to break, need to have good reason for doing so. Work out why you want to lose weight and then go inside yourself and see if that reason for losing weight is more important to you than your reason for not losing weight (eg protection from unwanted attention etc). This may not be your issue, Catherine, just making a suggestion. It was for me.

Ok, time for me to speak up.  I am Dobie's brother.  I started the diet on Jan 1.  No, this is not a New Year's resolution - for 2 reasons.  I never follow through with New Years resolutions and second, this is an entire overhaul of the way that I eat for the rest of my life.  Overall I have about 100 lbs I would like to lose.  I have never tried hard in the past to really lose any, just things like 'eating healthy' and 'exercising'.  Well, neither of those usually lasted more than a week.

So far, I'm down 13 lbs.  I know for some people, it's bad to weigh daily, but I'm going to do this either way, and it would drive me nuts to not know how I'm doing.  As it is, it's more of a motivator, because I never thought I would do that so fast - and I don't expect to keep it up at this rate, but I hope I do.

As far as goals, my first is 34 lbs.  From there, I will re-evaluate.  I'm going on a trip to Ireland(I'm from Texas) in May, so I want to look as small as possible to make the plane trip more comfortable and for pictures.  Normally, that has not been something I worry about, but I've seen myself in picutres lately and I hate the way that I look.  That's why I'm doing something about it.  I'm just sorry I did not start it earlier.  Dobie has been trying to get me to start since about October of 2005 - finally I gave into the pressure.    Thanks for keeping after me Bro!

I so agree with you, i did pure Atkins for 56 days and i now have food allergies. My skin itches at my waistline and last week i had a severe tummy ache after eating a Mcdonalds meal.

As far as the Atkins goes I did that on and off for 3 yrs and only gained more weight and food allergies! I personally don't recommend doing it very strict. Besides when you do cheat on the atkins you gain a whole bunch of it back quick!

Hi Everyone! I'm a newby just thought I'd post something since I've been reading about everyone on here for acouplea days. And i have to say thankyou to all of you for inspiring me to start! Today is my first day, and would you believe mum has decided to cook a roast lamb tonight, when I'm supposed to be having ham and tuna plate salad?!!! Owell, I guess it's still protein... are we allowed to substitute? I've been reading some posts and a few people have substituted some things... Anyway, it's nice to meet to all!!!

P.S I was readind previous posts in regards to the 'old version' of this diet... I would love any advice or information on the old one, as eating hamburgers and pasta really does sound appealing.... and it sounds like alot of people had great results from it!!!

Hello everyone!!
After a very frustrating start, I am seeing some results!!I am happpy that i am losing weight at all.
Dobie, I do not have any food allergies, also i have low or non-fat everything+egg and sugar substitute. I think the weight loss has a lot to do with the previous food habits(i was on a healthy e-diets programme three week prior) and the total amount of weight to lose. It would perhaps be healthy to loose a only  upto a certain percent of total excess weight. This is my theory and I am sticking to it!   I am 5'1"  25yrs and weight 137 when starting the diet. Reaching 105 to 110 pounds is my target.
I will post my results in 2 days!!.

I agree with
Teresa, drinking water and exercise makes a lottttaaa difference. I did consider if I have a thyroid problem, while checking online I found I might have a mild case(I have a lower body temperature, apart from other symptoms). But, I believe mind is more powerful than the body, once I made peace with this..things become so much easier. My partner said he will join me for my Paris (study) tour, if I did get to 115 pounds by march. This is a perk i am working towards as short term goal (trust me this is a good motivator).

Meanwhile,  Zandor congratulations and welcome Kaz! Kaz, I substituted a protein shake with non-fat milk instead of chicken once in a while and I think it didnt affect the results. I tried the veggie chilli, awesome. just good. This is what I love about this diet, it encourages you to cook simple meals and keeps you away from (demon) processed food.I must also add, that I am pretty impressed with my bowel movement. i never feel gasy..all this goes to say this diet is good and worth a try. As far as I am concerned, I am sticking to it till i get all the excess weight off, then maybe once a month to ''detoxify'' the body!!

This is an interesting forum with active members and it gives me a secure feeling -just being able to share. Thank you all.

Hi Catherine! I think it's great you are having good results with this diet.... I agree, PARIS is excellent motivation!!!! GO GIRL!! It's very motivating to hear all the success on here.. Well, i hope I didn't do any great damage yesterday with THAT bread roll giving me nightmares. Today is fruit day, so I am sure it'll balance out. Does any one have any other new recipe ideas apart from the ones on the recipe post? Just curious as to how everyone else is eating and doing... I guess when starting something new, paranoia tends to hit... I am 27yrs (two kids); 69kgs (sorry, this is how we measure weight down under); size 14 (grrrrrr); and 5'2. My goal weight is 57kgs and will try very hard. It's so nice to meet all of you!!!!

I must admit, I am very curious about the old plan, and have tried to follow links that others suggest in other threads, but it doesn't work! I have read the old plan is much better than the new one, and would like to know why/how!! What are the rules for it??? Just curious....

Happy eating everyone!  Karina

Good Morning, All!  *smooch*  Today is day 11, and I just couldn't wait to check the scale.  I've lost 8 and a half pounds since I started this time!  I couldn't believe my eyes when I got on the scale!  I actually cheated a couple of days because TOM is coming and if I didn't get chocolate and icecream, I was going to injure someone.  lol.  When I did cheat, I ate low-fat vanilla icecream and sugar free hot fudge.  Not as tasty as the real stuff, but it calmed The Beastie for the time being.  Been watching my portions like a hawk and drinking a LOT of water.   Only 17 lbs to go til my goal!  (well, 22 if i want to be ecstatic as opposed to happy.)  SOOO do-able, this diet.

I have to tell you all, the BEST thing in the world is Cavender's Greek Seasoning.  It makes everything just spicey enough, including scrambled eggs!  I've used it on the fish, the broiled chicken, broccoli, etc, and it's really all you need!  My husband is Greek, and we have the Cavender's in the house at all times.  It's been a lifesaver this past 11 days!  Check it out and let me know what you think!

Hi Everyone,

I have been on the plan for 5 days and would be having my fruits and veggie day tomorrow, i need to get creative with my meals. I am doing so well right now which is always the case when i start a "diet". I would lose 10lbs and then stop losing, and then start cheating and it all goes haywire from there. I'm hoping that the food rotation would make all the difference for me to continue losing weight. I have to lose 62lbs and i pray this plan does it for me.

archcatz-- i look forward to seeing your results, i get really motivated when i see others doing great. I wish you the best in reaching your goal for Paris.

PrincessYes-- way to go on completing your first cycle, 8.5lbs loss is excellent!

This is actually my second time doing a cycle, but Christmas and New Year came up and I wasn't as careful.  I lost about 5 lbs the first time, and gained back three with all the "holiday cheer."  hee hee hee.  I love this diet, though.  I want to lose that 17 lbs before the 15th of Feb, since I'm going to a convention in San Jose.  Wish me luck!

A little tip that I've found to be helpful!  When your meal plan calls for something that you have a nutrition label for, stick to the serving size!  It's just a little tweak, but it helps more than I can tell you.  I stick by that on my "days off" and it helps keep me from bouncing back!

Size 10/12-thanks for the encouragement!  I hope I can be here to give you the same!  You can do it!  As for veggie day (which is my least favorite) all I can say is-KABOB!  Make a marinade with lemon juice, garlic salt, etc (Greek seasoning!) and just a LITTLE bit of olive oil to keep the veggies from burning.  I realize there's probably snow on the ground where you are!  It's 39 degrees here today, but cold doesn't stop us from using the grill.  LOL.  You should see us out there in heavy coats and gloves, cooking!

Much Love, Y'all!

ps- i've also found that a little low-fat Italian dressing makes an AWESOME marinade!  *smooch*

Hi Guys! Am just curious to know if there are any other Hyperglyceimics out there (don't know if I spelt that right??!)  I am, and on the fruit day I got the shakes soooo bad I ended up having to snack on a handful of peanuts and a slice of bread, otherwise felt like collapsing.... Fruit just doesn't fill me up the way it should.  If there are any of you out there with the same thing, what do you do on those days?

I wanted to address this for you, Karina.

The old is not better in my opinion.  Our points have been that it works for us and for me, the new one did not.  But I am not sure I controlled by portions and I only tried it once.

As to the burger, any meal that you have a protien and a carb, you can substitute a burger with equal "protein carb" type meal.  Just like other subs you do, it should not affect you.  HOWEVER, it may depend on your body and how you react.  Try it and see. :)
