Yes, that is very odd. And I'm sure VERY frustrating!
I can relate to the "stalling" process. Back in May, I weighed 174. I didn't do any particular diet....I was just watching what I ate. I managed to lose 8.5 lbs. in a month, but then for three weeks did not lose anything. I was very frustrated because I had been eating so good. Looking back on it now, I realized I was only eating 800-900 calories a day and didn't realize that could be a BAD thing sometimes to only eat that many calories every day.
That's when I found this diet. I am on cycle 2, day 5 and have lost another 8.5 lbs. I'd love to lose another 25 if I can.
Sorry for babbling, but I can totally relate to the "stalled" period. It does seem like something may possibly be wrong if you are gaining weight! I know we all lose at different rates, but something seems wrong. I give you kudos for sticking with it. I think I'd be so frustrated, I'd say Forget it!
I hope the Atkins phase jumpstarts something for you! If not, I hope the doctor has some answers for you!

Thanks Jewel .
Omayara do you think its because your body has already adapted to the DG diet so it doesn't react to the "calorie shifting" by burning more calories? If that is the thing, I think you are making a smart decision to switch to a different diet/eating plan to change up what your body has adapted to. It sounds like you have already done the diet once a year ago and perhaps your body isn't responding the way it should this time.
I have little experience with "stalling" but those are my 2 cents.

Latinluva - Hello and welcome! So how are things going? Please let us know!
Pretty Porcupine - I must have missed you introducing yourself! Welcome! It is harder to eat out when you are dieting, but it IS possible. Planning is key. If you know where you are going and check out the menu online (or however) you can see what is closes to your food choice for that meal. I actually learned from eating out what to order to stick withing guidelines and that really helped me a lot when it came to maintaining. Best wishes to you!
Gencaf - Kudos to you for how you are handling the family eating while you are dieting. It is not easy, but it is totally possible! Sounds like you are determined to do what is right for YOU and still be able to juggle the family needs. I admire that! Good for you! As women, especially wives and mothers, we have to take care of ourselves, as if we don't, no one will. And to take care of everyone else, we must take care of ourself first. It is a hard concept to grasp for some, as we are conditioned otherwise. But it makes perfect sense, and once we accept that, without feeling guilt , it works out best for everyone in the end!
Losinglbs - I think that is great that your chef friend is willing to put together some FL4I recipe videos. I am sure that many members would love to have more ideas! I know I would appreciate them! Please share the urls in the forum... maybe in the recipe thread, so we can check them out! Thanks! I am glad you are liking the diet so far. I can't say enough positive about it.
Changes - Nice to see you back! So the good news is you haven't gained. That is wonderful! You know what to do to lose so work it around your schedule as much as possible. If it takes a little longer because of your circumstances, oh well. You WILL get there! You are aware of how to do it, and you are mastering the maintenance in between! Yay!
Omayra - Let us know how it goes.
All my other wonderful FL4I friends here... I wanted to thank you for your wishes and thoughts on my granddaughter. I appreciate all the special comments. So sorry I have been so distracted the last few days with my new baby granddaughter's arrival. I will be paying more attention now.. I promise!

Huge congratulations on your new granddaughter, Webfairy!!
Anyone who is doing or has done BC, what are/were your losses after the first cycle? I'm just trying to get an idea of what to expect so I don't get discouraged if my losses aren't as great as the first cycle. Thanks for the input!

| ok. this is my question. there is some foods that aren't on the list of available foods to create the diet generated plan. but some things i don't have. like shrimp, i'm substituting with Flounder, cuz the nutrition facts look almost the same except flounder has a lil more protein. and Canned Tuna, used to make Tuna salad....instead i had canned salmon so i'm using that. are these good choices to switch or am i messing up my diet????? help me!

WW - Thanks! I haven't done BC before but there are plenty others that have that can answer that (like Sunshine, Kitty, Zeva, etc.). I know I have heard results similar, but I think it is important on BC that you make sure you eat SMALLER portions than you would on the DG. I think that would be the biggest obstacle for most, as just eating until SATISFIED sometimes takes some working out. But there are a lot more combinations and some really love the BC. Someone will answer soon, I am sure.
Latinluva - I never compared the canned tuna with the canned salmon. If it is about the same, I think that would be ok. I never thought salmon was allowed as it is a much oiler (fatter) fish. But apparently the authors said ANY fish, so who am I to question that? I think that sub would not be too far off, so I wouldn't worry too much. They said ANY fish can be substituted for another fish, so flounder for shrimp is fine.

I don't see anything wrong with substituting flounder. I heard most people recommend not substituting if you want to lose the maximum amount of weight per cycle so the diet can perform its full effect; however, i've substituted several meals already this cycle and seem to be losing fine.
Do what best fits you I guess.

Karen, when i do the BC i may lose 2.5-4.0 pounds. on the DG will lose 1.5-3.0. however, i am basically at my goal. I stay below 125. never have gotten to 120, which some day i will....
hope this helps.

Wow- 125 is a pipe dream for me it is so far away! I hope to be there someday.
Oh, veggie day SUCKS! Oh Lord. I thought it would never end. Fruit day is 10 times better imo, but that is just mine. Neither is pleasant.
I am down 7# now in 7 days, so not bad. I am hoping for some more before it is over.
Thanks again for your encouragement!

Hi I am a newbie here and have few questions. I am on day 5 of FL4I. Tomorrow I get eat frozen yogurt. I am wondering which brand you all prefer and can it be any flavor?
Just a little bit about me I am 46 and weigh 197. I actually have gained about 20 pounds since last July due to illness and now I really want to get it off.
Also any tips for navigating this forum? Can you set it up to where the first page shown is the newest post.

Hi Combogirl and welcome! You can have any flavor or frozen yogurt. I would stay away from the ones with added ingredients like granola and chocolate chunks and things like that... just frozen yogurt. Haagen Daz seems to be the ones most stores carry. But if you can find a frozen yogurt shop that would be great! I have one I go to called OrangeTree. It has so many different flavors to choose from and you just fill your cup with one or more flavors until you get as much as you want to eat, and they weigh it and charge you by the ounce. I stopped on the way home tonight and got some Taro and Strawberry. It is so yummy and nonfat. Some are lowfat but it just happens that the flavors I love the most are all nonfat. 20 lbs. should not be hard to lose. I lost over 47 in 4.5 months. That was a BREEZE in my book. I think you will be surprised how fast you can drop 20 lbs. in comparison to how long it took you to put it on. That is how great this diet works for most. Let us know how your first cycle goes and if we can help in any way.
The forum has a help section here: http://www.caloriesperhour.com/forums/forum17/ which should answer most questions. I don't know of a way to have the pages of a thread load in descending order. As far as I know, you just have to click the furthest arrow on the right to get to the last page.
Gencaf - You are doing FANTASTIC! YGG! I can't believe you don't like veggie day. What are you eating? Have you checked out the veggie chili recipes and things like Mock Spaghetti (made with spaghetti squash instead of pasta). So many members here have come up with wonderful ideas for veggie day. I LOVED veggie day. I HATED fruit day. I guess we all have our preferences. But if you come up with some really good meals you will like, you can change how you feel about it. Let us know if we can help you with some veggie day ideas.

Hey Everyone!
I just started the BC plan yesterday...so I have just finished day 2! I think it has been going really well, but I have one question. What are your thoughts on using Extra Virgin Olive Oil? I like to use it when sauteing my veggies. Is this a big No-NO?
Thanks!
Oh and BTW I am so excited to be part of this forum!

Thanks for the info Kitty, Sunshine, & Webfairy! I don't think I'm overeating, but time will tell. I think the last time I weighed 125, I was about 17 years old, but I'm hopeful!
I can't tell if I've lost any more weight or not. I think "Mother Nature" is going to pay me a visit in a couple of days. I'm weepy, have insomnia, & my back hurts. I really hate that witch sometimes! I's a good thing men don't go through this too! We'd all kill each other! Can you imagine feeling that way every month AND having to put up with a man who was feeling the same way? SHUDDER!! (and vice versa guys!) Absolute mayhem would ensue!
Have a good night, all! I'm going to read my book and pretend that I don't want a giant bag of M & M's! Sleep well!

Hi LadyJane! The rule would most likely be no oil. Some may use it, but it is probably not a great idea on this diet, especially when starting. It is not on the list of allowed "condiments" and can interefere with your losses. BC says not to use any other condiment other than what is specifically listed. PAM is not listed, either, but if you are going to use something, it would probably be better to use that.
Added: Sorry, Kitty. I didn't see your post. LadyJane... Kitty and others have been on the DG and/or BC for a while, and mostly reached their goals, and just trying to lose the last few pounds, so it may not impact their losses much. Those of us that were on it longer term adapted the menus to fit our life. But, since you are just starting, I would recommend trying without it a cycle and see how it effects you. I am just going by what the diet guidelines say. Just my two cents...

Web~ i guess i just rationalized if we can use a dab of butter for our scrambled eggs, a dab of EVOO would be okay...it's been so long since i read all the rules, for some reason i remember the dab of butter.

Kitty - I have read through the BC three times now and cannot find anything about butter or anything, other than it saying no other condiments that are not specifically listed and it goes on as follows:
*All fish must be NON breaded. No sauces or toppings are allowed on fish except lemon juice and seasoning salts.
*Tuna Salad can be prepared using any of the following: Tuna, lowfat mayo, mustard, celery, onions, and tomatoes. No bread is allowed.
*All deli style meats (pastrami, ham, roast beef, etc.) can be either "full fat" or "lean", it doesn't matter. You may use mustard and seasoning salts on these meats, but no other toppings or sauces are allowed.
*Egg Salad can be prepared using any of the following: Diced Eggs, lowfat mayo, mustard, celery, onions, and tomatoes. No bread is allowed.
*When the menu allows vegetables you can create your own SALADS using these vegetables (if you want to). However, you are only allowed 2 tablespoons of LOW CAL SALAD DRESSING per meal when doing this. Other toppings (such as croutons) are not allowed.
*When Fruit is listed on the menu it always means FRESH FRUIT (except for prunes, you may eat packaged prunes). Fruit Juice is NOT allowed, and it's not the same as eating fresh fruit.
*Allowable "Drinks" are covered at the end of this eBook in a separate section.
Is there another part to this that I don't have that specifically lists condiments other than how you can make the listed food above? I can't find anything that gives more information, as the above seems vague, don't you think? Even though I love the DG, I think I might try a cycle on the BC soon and would like to have more info, if there is any. Thanks!

Webfairy...I think Kitty is speaking of the butter used to prepare scrambled eggs on the DG. (She only did the DG up until recently.) It is hard to scramble eggs without something in the pan ...I wonder if "they"(the diet mogels )consider scrambled eggs prepared the same for both plans?? Is WW on DG or BC?

Sunshine, Ok, so now I am really lost. Where does it say we can scramble our eggs with butter? Don't even tell me that I was missing out on that!! Like Kitty, it his been a long time since I read the rules (on the DG) but I don't remember anything ever about butter allowed anywhere. I have always used PAM as I thought butter was NEVER allowed. I thought even PAM was pushing it, but we had to use something so I thought that would be the safest choice. I think that sometimes people add things not allowed and then wonder why they aren't losing or their losses are not as expected. I know, for myself anyways, now that I have lost the weight... and like you and Kitty, if we do a cycle these days, we do things not EXACTLY by the book, because we don't have to be as anal about the diet as when we first started. I just want to make sure we aren't misleading any of the new members, that's all. I know how well the diet works, and I would hate for someone to give up because they are doing something that may be hampering their efforts. I guess it's good to go back every now and then and reread the rules.
On a lighter note, Lilah is fabulous. She is the most precious thing ever, and I have been on Cloud 9 since she was born. Everywhere I go, every phone call, I tell everyone about her. Her picture is on my desktop at home, at work and even on my cell phone background. You would think she was my daughter! I don't think I was as excited as I am with her, with the birth of my own children! My daughter keeps reminding me that this is HER daughter, but I just stick my fingers in my ears and say Lalalalalalala...
P.S. WW is on the DG (as far as I can decipher) so was wondering about her loss potential. Hey, WW... hang in there! We know what you are going through, and "this too shall pass". (Hide the MnMs!!!) And thank God that men don't go through this, too. Although it would be nice if men went through it INSTEAD of us!!

Thanks webfairy!!
OK, I have a serious concern to raise. Is anyone else getting leg cramps from this diet -- the kind that signal potassium leaching? Three nights this week I've had them and this morning I could barely move from the pain.
Aside from the pain, potassium leach is a serious problem -- it affects the regulation of your heart, and my lil' heart is fine and healthy and doesn't need any stress, thank you.
I'm REALLY upset because I love this diet and it's the only one I think I can stick with for the long haul, but leg cramping/potassium loss is unacceptable This was one of the (MANY MANY MANY) reasons I detested the Atkins diet, too.
Fortunately today is Veggie Day so I'm eating potassium-rich foods -- beans, lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms etc.-- and it won't be a problem on Fruit Day either with strawberries, bananas, etc.
I guess my only solution is to add these foods in, even on days they're not called for, and hope this doesn't screw up the diet. I don't really see how adding a pile of lettuce or cucumbers or a banana a day will hurt, right?!

Top O the Mornin Guys and Gals!!
Yes...You CAN have oil or butter on the DG...read the last page of you DG menu print out.
SCRAMBLED EGGS
This means regular Scrambled Eggs, cooked in oil or butter in a pan.
This is why many of us use a tiny bit of EVO or Butter for our eggs (and sometimes for other things that require something for the pan since we can sub protein for protein)
Web...glad to hear you are "over the " about Lilah...just wait until she is a moody back talking 13 year old and we'll see if she is on your desktop...heehee Enjoy that little bundle of love...she is such a beautiful baby. Sounds like you and DD are in a tug o war over her...she is so loved!! It doesn't get any better than that!
Larry, Losing and NetR...we are sooooo glad that you guys are willing to hang out here and put up with our less cheery weeks You are all losing well and great contributors...your advice and enthusiasm is WONDERFUL!!!
WW... I vary between the two now that I am maintaining.
PP...take magnesium..that will end the legs cramping...and use sea salt instead of regular salt. If you take magnesium before bed it will also help you sleep. Talk to your health food store person or google it to find the best form for you. I find the EarthClinic website helpful as they give reviews and peoples experiences(pro and con) with natural safe home remedies that really work!
Hope you all are having an excellent cycle or entering those CD with a smile!

Hahaha -- I don't have daughters or a wife to put up with but my girlfriend can have some pretty moody days. I find just nodding to everything she says and agreeing to everything helps me get by pretty unscathed .
I'm also on veggie day porcupine but I have yet to make my veggie chili... so I gotta do that when I get back from the gym today.

sunshine -- Thanks for the tip!! I remember now, reading that somewhere else. I also read that magnesium helps you sleep and that there's a strong connection between proper amount of sleep (minimum 7 hours) and weight loss. I will definitely try that!!

So true, Sunshine. I didn't meet my bf until I was 38 and he was absolutely worth the wait, and ten times the worth of the guys who went before him. I am really lucky (Don't know if he would say the same thing -- OH WELL )

Argh -- I got a call from some friends who are going to a really cool restaurant tonight and want me to join them. Unfortunately there is not a SINGLE thing on the menu that I can eat -- it specializes in meat (yes, I've told them a hundred times I'm a vegetarian) but it has no salads or vegetable main dishes, only a bunch of super-fattening side dishes like fried plantains and mashed potatoes!! Argh! So I have to say NO, I wont' be able to resist.
Not going to tell them why though, they would not understand. Two of them are skinny and one is very overweight but isn't trying to lose weight. I won't get any support and it will be torture to watch them scarfing all that down.
But really I'm not upset -- it is frustrating but OTOH my desire to get my weight down pretty much trumps everything right now.

PrettyPorcupine - So I don't have to type such a long name for you, I was going to call you PP but that just sounds too weird! So I think I will call you Pretty, as that is always a nice thing to hear! I understand how you feel and admire your determination on the weight loss. I experienced times like that while on the diet, too. I actually sat through some desserts with friends and watched them eat and I just smiled and couldn't wait to get the heck out of there! But I was determined, like you, and not willing to let those things block my progress. It worked too! I can be very strong willed when I want to.
I have gained a little (2.5 lbs.) this last couple weeks with the baby shower, running around, the baby being born and all the commotion. I wasn't making my own food to bring to work and I was out and about a lot, so I got off track. I decided to do a few days of a cycle and started Day 1 yesterday. Then at lunch time my boss wanted to take me to lunch. I said no at first, but then I decided to go. My menu meal was fish, green veggies and cottage cheese. I got the grilled tilapia with broccoli and had them hold the rice and black bean & corn salsa. It was excellent, and I got to still stick with my diet and go out to eat. I love when it works out like that. Today I am down 1.5 since yesterday and I skipped to day 3 (cuz I hate fruit day) but I think by tomorrow I will be back to where I want to be (or within 1/2 lb.). I can always do a couple days next week if I feel like it. I really want to try the BC for a few days and just see what happens. I have such excellent results each and every time on the DG I am curious about the BC. I guess this weekend I can sit down and plan out the meals for a few days and then try it. I will let you know how it goes.
Happy Friday everyone! I am excited to hear the FatFu Fighter's weigh-ins! Happy cheat days FFFs. SVs.. hang in there!

Webfairy, you (or anyone) can call me Pretty anytime!! Actually I'm just as happy with Porcupine for that matter
Yes, going out is possible if there's something reasonable on the menu but...I don't want to risk it on Veggie Day when my resistance is already fairly low -- going out the other night and watching people chow down while I nibbled on my peanuts and club soda was...tough
I really should have started on a day when my cheat days would fall on the weekend but I was so anxious to get started I just dove in!!

Pretty -- You started the exact same day I did! We should've started on say monday so we could've had our cheat days friday through sunday every other week. I too was so excited to the start the diet I didn't really care.
Just had a bowl of my veggie chili and it is so delicious! I'm not going to say I would eat this on a normal day (I hate veggies) but I don't have to scarf it down and I can enjoy it (until it starts getting cold hehe).
Out of curiosity, I've yet to figure out DH? I thought H maybe stands for Husband and D for daughter but not sure. Maybe designated husband?

Hey Losing...do your parents support your diet....are they cooking for you or are you cooking for yourself? I know it can be hard to diet if you are a teen dieting, if your parents aren't supporting your efforts. You seem to have such a positive attitude and are really determined and committed to this!! Cheering you on!
DH dear husband
DD dear daughter
DS dear son
BF boyfriend
GF girfriend
TOM time of month
SS sunshine..lol
Just ask.... we have adopted some strange abbreviations...and it takes awhile to figure out our lingo...don't be shy to ask questions we have all had to ask!

DH=Dear Husband. But I like "designated husband" too!!
Yeah, I remember we both signed up here on the same day. I'm glad you're enjoying the veggie chili. I had pinto beans for breakfast and it was amusing to see my coworkers' faces when I heated it in the microwave (what, you don't eat beans for breakfast? You don't know what you're missing! ).
For lunch I had a big salad and I'm feeling pretty full.

and webfairy, your 2.5 pound gain is just "weekend water weight" -- I wouldn't worry about it. I know you've done incredibly well on this diet and you are an inspiration to all of us.
I know I'm posting like crazy but it is the best way for me to keep on track. This is the first time in a long time that I have truly felt convinced I will reach my goal. (I lost 40 lbs three years ago and gained it all back--and have not been able to stick to a diet since then, before finding this.)

Happy Friday Well, done w/ 3rd cycle and here to report a 5.8 loss. Which sounds pretty good except a lot of it was what I had gained back from vacation on the 2nd cycle. Hopefully I can keep it in check w/ the CD's this weekend, I typically don't do so well and spend my first week back on losing the CD weight.
So, I have a question...hypothetically (ya right), if one were to cheat w/ that little round brownie that all the diet ruin-ers at work leave out on the table (I swear it's a conspiracy to make me cheat), would one skip the afternoon snack of fruits because it was already replaced with a much more calorie filled brownie? Or would one stick to the plan and still eat the fruits as well? Not that this happened yesterday or anything...

Mtmama - CONGRATULATIONS on the 5.8 lb. loss. That is wonderful! This is what I would do IF that happened to me ever ... I would have eaten that brownie in place of a meal, like you mentioned. So I would make sure that brownie was timed to be eaten at the next meal time, not too soon before or after another meal. I hope that helps. Sometimes brownies happen!

Keep enjoying your grand baby! My baby was a year old in June and it goes by so very fast!

Brownie fruit? Brownie fruit? Did I hear brownie fruit? Now I KNOW I like this plan. Please pass the brownie fruit!
Hi everyone and congrats on your big losses FFFs! It is so cool to see so many new members losing like crazy. Isn't this a wonderful way of eating?
Webfairy - I am following Kitty's cue and not reporting this time around - unless something earth-shattering happens by tomorrow, of course. My transgressions this past weekend really played havoc with my intentions. I am 1.2 pounds heavier than my lowest weight last cycle, and even though I can say I lost 2 pounds from Day 1 until now, it's only CD weight, and not even all of it.
I noticed earlier that someone mentioned leg and foot cramps - and yes, I agree with Sunshine on the magnesium. I take it every night and when I get cramps other times, I have popped an extra magnesium and it usually helps relieve them quite quickly. Magnesium is considered a gateway mineral, which means it allows potassium and calcium to stay in your system, so it's a good way to alleviate the cramps.
Speaking of Sunshine - You asked me about the tractor noises on my computer. Still don't know what they are but I may find out soon. I picked up a new computer at Costco today, and the young man who helped me load it told me he goes to a local tech college that fixes computers for free, just for the experience. So, after I get my new one all loaded with my old data and photos I'll bring the John Deere into his school and let them fiddle with it. If they find out what it is, I'll let ya know.
Have a great day and evening everyone!
Hugs all around,
Annie

| I'm up a pound since last cycle but I'm a pound lighter than 2 cycles ago. I'm truly convinved that on Monday I'll have to sacrifice carbs. However, I'm debating on doing an 11 day cycle where I have a fruit day on day 2 and veggie day on day 8 but the rest of the time, eat nothing but protein and with calorie free condiments and splenda when needed.
