Hey everyone, I'm Back!!  I haven't been able to sign on for over a week.  I tried everything suggested (removing cookies) but nothing worked, so now I'm in thru netscape instead of ie.  Seems to be working.  (Fingers crossed).

I'm on day 4 of cycle 3, don't have a new weigh loss total since I haven't weighed for 2 weeks now.  I decided to do a veggie plan this time.  Only diff is I use real chicken when it calls for soy chicken.  Other than that, it has chickpeas on it, along with eggs cheese and baked beans.  I ate a sandwich on fruit day just like the non-veggie plan.  So far, so good.

It's great to see everyone posting, and good luck to the newbies!  You can do it.!!

Back in June , I said I'd be back by Aug. I seem to be moving at a :snail:'s  pace. I finally found my way back.   It's great to see new people here as well as the "oldies" Hi to Dobie and Jillybean ! Where's Jayelle ?   I lost 15lbs halfway through the 2nd cycle last spring. I was on the old plan. I have seen the new plan and will use some of the food ideas (carb/protein).  I like the old plan,& with some additions from the new one, it will be even better. While gone from this site, I have been eating like a :pig:  & a :horse:. I am sick of eating the same junk food:nono:. I'd rather eat the same healthier food. I've actually found myself missing a lot of the food on this plan.

The first couple of days, when first starting this plan, are the hardest. I always liked to snack until bed. I got into the habit (with a lot of willpower) of having a herbal tea at night. Once back on this routine I feel better about myself. It's just getting through the first four days.

The other thing that helped was walking. In the first plan they suggest walking only. I started walking for 10 min and built myself up to 30-60 min. daily. This was the only exercise I did. By the 3rd week I could actually feel the weight come off my stomach. I also started looking forward to my walks.  Eventually I will start some weight training. I have to do some tough love with myself. I had made a promise to myself that I would get into shape by my 50th birthday. I have 3 months:shock: (talk about putting things off) !! I'm 194.5lbs and am aiming for 155lbs.

I officially start back on the plan Mon. Sept. 25.

Nice to see so many enthusiastic people here !

Julie--glad to see you back...I was wondering where you'd disappeared to!

So many more people coming (or coming back) here to post...lovin' it!

I am starting a new cycle today after taking the past week off in order to align my "cheat" days with an upcoming vacation.  I'm looking forward to being more strict (does that sound insane?) because when I'm not following the menus, even when I try to make good food choices, I always feel like I'm doing something wrong :dizzy:

Hi from sunny and hot Florida!

I spent hours reading all these posts on Sunday the 17th.  I decided that night to try the plan, and registered, got my diets, and began following the plan one week ago today.   I have not cheated (I can do that without paying $40).

Beginning weight (Lifetime high) 230

Weight yesterday, 9/24               222    (after 6 days on plan)

I am a 65 year old grandmother.  I've been gaining weight the last 2 years (2 yrs ago I weighed 205), and couldn't seem to lose a single pound!  I am so pumped about this plan!  I think it's healthy, because of all the variety of good foods.  I'm not going to weigh again until Friday morning, the end of my 11 day cycle.

Thanks to all of you who have posted.  You helped me make the decision to start, and I felt I had to begin my story to encourage someone else who needs it, to get on the program!

I have my 50 yr class reunion up north at the end of May.  Does anyone think I could be down to 150 by then????  Hope I hope I hope!

You can definitely meet your weight loss goal by the reunion. All you have to do is to keep strict to the plan. I am on day 3 of my 3rd cycle and I am down 22 pounds so far. This plan works well for me and I have learned my way around it, to make restricted days more inviting. Here are two things that make life better for me. I love the banana shake and I also make a veggie chili that is a great substitute for salads or other vegetable dishes. It gives me some real good flavors in my diet. Don't get crazy on the off days and you will be fine.

Congratulations, Barry , and thanks for the encouragement.  The TV ad for a famous plan tells how much better people do with support from other people.  I think on this forum we can give one another that kind of support.   You keep on forging ahead, and know that I am right behind you!:sheep::sheep:

I just completed Day 3 on this cycle.  Tomorrow is all fruits and veggies day (I'm on the old plan).  I really have a problem with the veggies since I don't care for many at all.  I will do fruit for breakfast, as always, and I'm thinking I'll try to stir-fry some veggies for dinner.  Lunch will be a mostly-veggie soup I made (black beans, salsa, frozen corn, shredded cabbage, chili powder, organic chicken broth, and ff cream cheese).  That's about as close to all veggies I can get

So- I was very close to going the whole 11 day without cheating (I even survived Donut day at work)- then the weekend came.  My parents were in town so we went to a restaurant- blew it.  Then Sunday we went to a football party - 3 slices of apple pie.  Not 1, not 2, but 3!!!!

I am back on it and so far so good.

You are rock'in! Well done. It seems that after a couple of cycles it gets alot easier, as you are in a routine. You are certainly setting a good pace of discipline and consistency. Congrats on the success thusfar and I am certain we will get some more positive reportings from you!!! Take care!

Noodle, sounds like we are on the exact same cycle.  I am so ready for my last day tomorrow, but I like food so well, I even enjoy the veggie days...well, sorta.  I can't wait for Friday morning when I am going to weigh, but I bet I won't equal your terrific loss!

***

Thanks to all who have had kind and encouraging words for me.  I think I shall be fine this weekend.  I have eaten right before, so know how to do it (don't bring the bag of cookies to the couch with you to watch TV!:nono:

I found some frozen vegetable mixes at Wal-Mart, Great Value brand, which don't contain corn nor potatoes.  There is an asparagus mix which I really do like, and the Italian, which is good, and always the California mix, which we have eaten for years.  Usually with a lot of other stuff.

I'm sure my stomach has shrunk; I think the all veggie day really nailed that one!  (Yeah, I like them, but there is definitely a limit!)  So my weekend goal is to eat nutritiously, don't stuff myself, and keep that water flowing.

Y'all keep telling us of your successes!  It fans the fire!

Hi everyone:

I'm an "oldie" who hasn't been around for awhile.  Quick history....I started the program last November and lost 27 lbs. between then and March (that includes slacking off around the holidays).  I actually reached what I thought was my goal but gravity had done it's work and I saw that what I thought was my ideal weight wasn't.  Anyway, I decided that I'd like to lose 5-10 more but lost my "mojo."  Since then I haven't been following the plan, slacked off exercise (I don't know why) and gained between 6-8 lbs back (depending on the day).  All things considered, I don't think that's too bad but I've reached my "upper limit" weight which I swore I would never go above again so I'm easing back into the plan, have picked up on my exercise routine, and have a reward in mind for myself when I lose 10 lbs.

I'm actually looking forward to starting my 11-day cycle, which I'll do on Monday, because I had such good results with this plan.  It sounds as if it STILL works judging from the postings I've read.

Continued success to all!

Thanks for the kudos!

Day 11 and really having a hard time. Been feeling a little sick...not sure if I am coming down with something or if its this diet. Been dizzy and nauseous. Really tired of the food selection. At this point, I am not sure I want to continue with another cycle. I like the schedule of 4 meals, I might stay with that and eat different foods, like salmon, flank steak, etc. I just can't see myself eating deli meats much longer.

Has anyone altered the menu and had success?

I weighed myself this morning and I am up 3#. Maybe my scale was off when it showed -13#.

Hey, Noodle!

Hang in there!

In reply to your question, we don't eat deli meats as a rule (we don't do nitrites and nitrates), so the new Hormel naturals are the only deli's we've had in years.  BUT...I have eaten rump roast sliced and turkey slices that I cooked in a skillet with only spray in my non-stick pan when the diet called for those types of deli meats.  Of course, this was my first 11 day cycle (I ended today and weigh in the morning!) so I can't speak from long experience, but I think I have lost the promised 9 pounds.

As a rule, I always try to avoid processed foods as much as possible.   Therefore, when one meal was eggs (I freely swapped between scrambled and hard boiled), along with turkey slices,  I would make an omelet with cubed turkey inside.  Salsa on top made it wonderful. :yum: Hope you are feeling better.  Congrats on the terrific loss!

NanaJan checking in here on the results of my first cycle.  I could hardly wait to get out of bed this morning.  Here we go:

Weight:  218

Beginning:  230

First cycle loss:  12 pounds

AMAZING!  Can hardly believe it's me on the scales!  I am so psyched at finally losing, that I am not at all tempted to go Hog Wild this weekend:pig:.  I'm already looking forward to two weeks from now.

Has anyone lost the same amount on the 2nd cycle as on the first?

Personally, not even close!  I lost about the same as you on my first cycle and then only a few pounds each cycle after (about 2-4 per cycle).  I'm actually getting quite frustrated because I know I can get results like that from any calorie-restrictive plan, so I think I'm going to just go back to calorie counting and drop these menus.  The first couple of weeks (here, the first cycle) on ANY diet bring about more drastic weight loss because you're usually losing any retained water you had been holding onto.

Of course, if you like the foods and the menus, then you can keep following them and lose weight.  I just wouldn't expect 9+ pounds lost every cycle

After reading posts that date back a good while, I would have to say that the answer is "Yes"! I am on day 6 of my third cycle and my personal cycle average is 8 pounds per cycle and I still have 5 days to go. There are common threads in the application of the diet methods, as I see it. After reading what seems like a hundred posts, I find that successful dieters discipline the exercise, water, portions and food types. The lesser successful dieters have tendencies many times to not do their due-diligence when it comes to water and portion control. Many times they mistake a walk to the mailbox as their daily exercise. They rarely follow the "food" protocol. You will see them eating starches, dairy products and fatty meats. Some eat way too much meat (solid food). It is a fact that too much food of any type, including fruit and veggies, will make you fat or prevent you from losing weight. Also, you will notice that they are out of control on the "off" days, by forgetting the water, portion control, exercise and food types. They fall off the wagon too far to get back on with much success in only 11-days. After-all, we can't have gravy biscuits for breakfast, ice cream for a snack, McDonalds for lunch and Pizza for dinner and a few other tasty treats and expect a good weigh-in. Your body is going to store, store, store. All diet plans always end up coming down to the same thing, "personal responsibility and discipline". We and our bodies are not all the same, but I believe that we will find little argument from diet experts, that will confirm that those that adhere to the plans closely have more success than those that consistantly deviate from the protocols. Does this make sense or am I all wet?

Hi Everyone,

Well I finished my first cycle yesterday and weighed in today. Much to my dismay, I only lost 4 pounds. :crying:

After reading the post as to what problems some people encounter...lack of exercise, water, portion control...I wonder what happened with me! I started exercising again, using my elliptical, playing tennis twice with friends, going for a hike, going for walks and my regular sunday softball game. I made sure I had all the water, and I didn't overeat on my portions. What happened???

I'm discouraged because I can lose 4 pounds in the first week of a calories controlled diet, where I can eat more "regular" foods. Anyone have this problem on the first cycle, but then do better on the second? I'm just nervous for the 3 days off. I'm not going to go overboard, but what if that 4 pounds was just water weight and I'm right back where I started come Monday. My overall goal is about 20-25 pounds, but I'm not sure if this is yet another plan that didn't work out the same for me as it did for others.

Any advice?

I have an opinion on what may have happened to you. Take it with a grain of salt. Have you ever heard of people that work-out like a dog, but don't lose weight? I think we all have heard of this happening. Two important goals on this diet are to keep the metabolism going and prevent storage of water. If water stores, fat does not leave your body. It sounds like you had alot of rigerous activity, not just simple walking, like the diet suggests. When we exert ourselves, the body looks for carbs for fuel. This diet gives us minimum carbs, so your body looks to burn fat. The problem is that you can't drink enough water fast enough to replace what you sweat out, while exerting. Due to lack of internal water, the fat stays in the body and the body tries to store water, from being deprived. You still lose weight, just slower. The diet instructions do advise us to only walk and don't do heavy exercise, if we are to maximize the weight loss results. This is just a theory based on everything that I have read and experienced from dieting. Good luck!

Hi Everyone,

I'm on Day 7.  I have lost 4 lbs so far, which seems to be so-so.  It does seem like a lot of effort for 4 lbs, but there's still time to go, so we'll see.

The good news is that the weight seems to be fat.  The reason I say this is that I have a digital scale that calculates body fat percentage by sending an electrical signal through the body.  Apparently, fat causes more resistance than water, and the scale knows my height and weight, and somehow uses this info plus how long it takes to get the signal back to calculate the body fat.

I've been told by an MD that the percentage per se may not be accurate, but that it's a good way to track fat gain or loss over time.

Anyway, my scale says my body fat is down, by about a percent or so.  I weigh myself in the morning, and I've noticed that the morning reading always has the fat percentage the highest, I guess because I've gotten a little dehydrated overnight.  The lower fat percentage is in the morning reading, and has been consistent over the past few days.

Hi! I'm new to the boards. My husband and I just finished Day 10 of our 1st cycle. I'm down about 6, he's down about 8. We are thrilled! I do have a question for couples doing this diet together. He is a big meat eater and I'm a borderline vegetarian (poultry only) so we are both having to do substititions at times. I like cottage cheese and he doesn't, but I don't want to remove it because it seems the menu generates even MORE meat! What is a good substitution for it?

I'm looking forward to the 3 days off, but there really isn't anything in particular either of us is craving, so I hope we'll be good!

On veggie day, I do several things. I pick up a side salad from Wendys, as I am not a big salad eater and don't keep the salad stuff around. I only eat the one salad on that day. I make a vegatable soup, beans and veggie chili. These are my staples on veggie day. My veggie soup is made from vegatable broth from the grocery store along with frozen or fresh chopped onion, frozen brocoli, cauliflower and carrot mix. Add some cabbage and a can of canned tomato mexican style. I also make bean soup from dried pinto beans with frozen or fresh onion. My veggie chili has the same pinto bean mix, but I add a couple cans of Mexican styly tomatoes and chili powder. When i cook the beans, i make a double amount and use half for Chili and the other half as just plain beans with onion. I freeze some, so I don't have to cook it every week. I find that adding a little sprinkle of parmesan cheese to my beans and chili is a nice touch. I hope this helps a little.

Hello!

Add eggs into your husbands menu. Scrambled, boiled, deviled eggs, egg sald are all great. Also, add tuna or any fish as well as soy burgers or soy meats of any kind. Just be sure they are not breaded. Stick to the leaner meets as much as possible. I get deli type meats thin sliced as a convenient in between meal. I eat my four meals a day, but one of them is usually smaller, like a couple slices of turkey or thin ham. All fish, especially tuna metabolizes exteremely fast so it is great. Utilize the nuts when needed, as they are another source of protein. On your days off, stay on a similar eating plan and do the water and don't go crazy. I eat one off-diet type meal each of my off days. One day, Taco bell, the next Wendys and the next could be Baskin Robbins. I usually stay even on my weight or even lose a pound. It does us no good to diet if don't apply our knowledge on our free days! Have a great three days!!

Hi

I survived fruit day without cheating!!! It was pretty tough...I went to bed early so I could stop thinking about how hungry I was...however when I woke up this morning and saw that I had lost another 2 lbs..it was all worth it. I know I'm not suppost to weigh myself everyday..but I can't help it and it help me keep focused.  Needless to say my cottage cheese and turkey slices today were awesome!!!

Barry thanks for the recepie...I'm going to try for my veggie day...the chilli actually sound pretty good. I love mexican food! Can I substitute the deli meats for regular meat?  I'm not a big fan of processed meats.

Hope you all have a great day! Good job labaum

Yes on the deli meats. That is what i eat, not packaged sandwich meats. I just have them slice it the thickness that I prefer, which is thin. I weigh everyday also. It helps motivate me. If I don't lose for a day or two, then I make sure and adhere strictly and add a bit more walking. That is just my way of continuing the efforts to move forward on this weight loss trek. As of this morning I am on day 11 of my 3rd cycle, so that is a total of 38 days on the plan and I am down 26 pounds. That is over 8 pounds average per cycle. I am very pleased. The diet can only do 50% of the work and the other half has to come from commitment to the plan. Have a great day, I am!

Good for you Barry, very impressive I hope to have the same kind of results...I'm being pretty strict on myself...in order to really see results...do you eat anything in between the 4 main meals? Sometimes I feel a little hungry...but I just drink lots of water instead...I am having a great day!

On days when I have protein in my menus, which are most days, I eat some peanuts, as they are on our list of approved proteins. I take some out of the can/jar and eat them. I don't eat out of the can as that tends to get me to eat too many. The salt also invites even more water which helps satisfy my tummy. My stomach has shrunk already and I find myself having to reduce my portions even more now, otherwise i am uncomortable. I used to eat a Burger King Double Whopper, fries and medium drink. That was standard BK protocol for me. Now, I eat a regular Whopper, no fries and medium drink and that is pushing my limits. if I eat the fries, I am uncomfortable. They are double-bad for me anyhow. I found this out on my 2nd cycles free days.

Hi everyone.  I have been on this diet for 3 months, with several weeks off while vacationing.  I have lost over 20 lbs.  I am on the new plan and there are several things that might be helpful to those of you not losing, or not liking what you have to eat.  I don't deviate much from what is listed in the generator.  I no longer select any deli meats, except the generic deli meat item to get me the sandwich on the fruit day.  And I NEVER select nuts anymore.  I have a lot of chicken, shrimp and egg meals.  I did not lose much my first cycle (5 lbs), but I had lots of nuts, which I love, and ate too freely.  By having the sandwich for lunch on the all fruit day, I don't get as hungry later in the evening.  I find that I will lose 7-8 lbs in a cycle, then 4-5 lbs the next cycle, but 2-3 lbs a week average is great for any diet!

Good luck to you all!

Hello,

I am on day 9. I was dismayed this morning to find that I had gained back about a pound.  Net loss is now 3 lbs.

I find that I am really hungry about two hours after a meal, even a meal like cottage cheese and pastrami slices, which you'd think would make you feel full for a half a day.  I feel so much more hungry than I do normally, which is weird because I feel like I'm eating more, and eating heavier meals.  I was thinking that, perhaps my metabolism is speeding up so much that my body is really using up all the food fast--but the small amount of weight lost doesn't really bear that out.

I found Day 8, the all-veggie day, to be absolute torture.  I was starving all day.

I am bumming.  I had been looking forward to the 3 cheat days, but of course, if I'm not going to do a 2nd cycle, it makes no sense to take them.  I have a lot more weight to lose, but I don't know if I can stand to do this again.

I know that I've  probably been eating a bit too much at the meals.  This is because I'm trying to avoid feeling so hungry too soon.  If you eat the four meals only 2 1/2 hours apart, there will be a long period at the end of the day when you can't eat.  Still, I'd say that, with the exception of two meals, it was only a tiny bit too much, not way too much.  Also, yesterday I did cheat and had some strawberries.  Still, how bad is that? (I know, I know)

I don't know what I can do to make this more tolerable.  One reason I like the idea of this diet is that I have absolutely no time to cook.  But I can actually manage to get these meals together without too much trouble.  I also thought the four meals would prevent me from feeling deprived, but that hasn't been the case.

That is quite interesting that you are hungry. It sounds like you are not drinking enough water. I don't sip my water. I drink 16 ounces at a time and also sip with my meal. I also drink a 16 ouncer before each meal. If I feel a bit hungry, I reach for another glass of water and down it. I probably drink around 100 ounces a day. My food quantities are way down from normal, as my stomach has shrunk and also because I have it half full at meal time. This allows me to better control portion size. If you are not hitting the bathroom at least once an hour or more, you are not getting enough fluids. Lack of fluids and portion control will destroy weight loss possibilities. I had a constipation problem early on and that affected my weight loss. I hope you can find some methods that work for you, however, all plans need the water and portion control discipline. I may be all wet, but if you are hungry alot, this could be the case. Good luck with sorting it out. I hope this helps.

Barry,

You are probably right; I have been drinking the minimum amount of water.  My commute takes a long time, so I try to avoid getting stuck with nowhere to pee.  Plus I don't enjoy drinking water.

Thanks for the advice.  For these last 3 days, I'll try drinking more to see if it helps.

I agree you need to drink a lot of water.  If you don't like to drink water, try something like crystal lite lemonade.   Also, you're wieght will fluctuate throughout the 11 days.

Hi Frankie,

Great to hear of your progress ... I'd say 4lbs in 7 days is not so shabby at all ..... and awesome on the loss of body fat.

Your scale sounds awesome, makes me want to run out and buy one for myself.

How have the last couple of days been for you ... since your post

Yeah, 4 pounds is great!

I started this plan again, because my scale was moving up and down the same 2 pounds for months.   My body needed a shake-up.   It's working!

Well, I just started this diet again.   I was on it from late June to October 2005.   I was down 20+ pounds.   It sure could have been more, but I went crazy on my cheat days:pig::pig:.    And I took 2 weeks off for a vacation, at which time I ate waaaaaay too much.

I've been losing the same 2 pounds over and over again for months now:angry:.   So, I decided to go back on WL4I.   I remember it being easy to follow, and I love the simplicity of it.    I am on the old plan once again.   However, I have changed a few things about my selections.    Cholesterol has always been a problem for me, and with this diet being so heavy in protein:pig::cow::chicken:, I got a little worried about that.   That's why I quit it the first time.

So, this time I am using Egg Beaters for my omelette, and turkey bacon....I fry with Pam cooking spray.   For ground turkey, I use the 99% fat free.   Cottage cheese is 1% (I don't like the fat free).  I chose the mixed nuts again, because I love them and they make a nice snack in the evening or an easy meal if I am working late.....but I don't buy the can of mixed nuts.   I've been eating raw almonds and pecans.    I think that they don't have the added salt and oil the others do, and that helps keep the water weight down ....I seem to retain it easily.   For sandwich, any kind....I go to my favorite deli and get a turkey sandwhich on whole grain bread with lettuce, onion and tomato.   I leave the mayo off and use mustard instead.   Tuna salad I used fat free Miracle Whip (because I like the taste) and serve it on a bed of chopped romaine leaves.   Being my old plan says you can add tomatoes, peppers, onion to the ground turkey, I've been using the Veggie Chili recipe I posted in the Recipe section of Caloriesperhour.   I add extra ground turkey to it.   Made with the veggie crumbles, it would work for Fruit/Veggie day.   I haven't added cheese to anything.   I haven't had chicken on this menu, but last year I always grilled it, never fried it.   There are some low calorie marinades out there that give it a great taste:yum:, or baste with a little BBQ sauce when it's almost grilled.

I also drink lots of water.   My chiro told me that if your diet is heavy in protein, it is especially important for the health of your kidneys that you drink lots of water.   My brother's chiro told him that your spine needs at least 64 oz./day to function optimally.   Don't slack on the water!

I don't know if keeping it lean is making a difference, but it may.   I started Monday morning and today (Thursday), I am down 8.4 lbs.    My starting weight was 171.4 (not normally that high, but I pigged:pig: out and retained water from all those salty no-no's:pizza:).    It's getting my scale moving!

I've been told by an MD that the percentage per se may not be accurate, but that it's a good way to track fat gain or loss over time.
Not as good as a cheap skinfold calliper, though. (The electronic scales, that is).

I've never tried the caliper.  But I got the scale primarily because it seemed like it would be accurate, and the body fat thing was more of a "why not?" It's Tanita, and you have to enter your age and weight. It can remember two users and a guest.  Sometimes I feel like it's too accurate; registering in tenths of a pound every tiny, meaningless fluctuation in weight.

I have NOT been doing so well! Net loss is now 1.8 lbs! Today is Day 10.

I have been constipated, and that may be part of the problem.  All those nuts...Plus, there is a probiotic beverage that I usually drink about a quart of a day (kombucha tea) that helps with that, but I haven't been drinking it because it doesn't really fit in with the diet.

I am torn between 1) just giving up if things don't improve by the end of the cycle, and trying something else entirely 2) Trying one more time, but regenerating menus until I find one that maybe is a little better 3) purchasing the Advanced Dieting Secrets diet by the same authors (seems to be called "Forget Calories!" now).  I've heard you eat six meals per day, and that what you eat each day is a bit more flexible than FL4I.  One of my problems with FL4I is that I've been hungry, but six meals should help.  However, how much money do I want to throw down the drain? That one is also $39.

Another possibility is to try the "casual" weight loss plan that you get in the diet handbook for Fl4I, but it sounds like it might be hard to keep track of.

So I don't know! I weigh about 153 right now, and would like to weigh somewhere between 135 and 140.  153 is not even so bad for me, but the scale has been slowly creeping up for several months.  I've lost about 40 lbs since my pregnancy, and I got rid of all my 1X clothes, and I never want to go back there again, but no matter what I do, and I've been trying lots of things, I can't seem to shake this trend!

Is that something that you've calculated from your current body fat %?

I ask because I was way out when I used to try to guess my ideal weight.  I'm about 16 pounds lighter than I ever thought I'd need to be.

Don't know much about FLFI, except that it must be making a fortune as so many folk are using it.   It seems to me, however, that dependency on someone else's regular updating of my eating patterns isn't a good way to set up for a lifetime of successfully keeping body fat at bay.

Good luck with it, though.

Calliper:   You pinch the flesh just above the hip bone and take 3 readings.   Average them out and read off a chart.   That gives you your body fat %.  (And it isn't affected by your level of hydration, or whether you've just eaten, unlike a body fat scale.

Mine cost me $9 a few years ago.  Wish I'd found it years earlier.

My BMI has me just at the borderline between overweight and not.  I have a medium frame.  I am just guessing though, by appearance alone, that if about 10 lbs or so were gone, I'd look healthy and fit, not skinny. I ride an exercise bike daily and do some weight-bearing exercise too, so there's plenty of muscle there; it's just well padded!

Maybe I will invest in the calipers.  Do they take "extra flabby" areas into account? For example, my upper arms have always been a problem area.  Will the caliper make it seem like I am fatter than I really am if I measure there?

Susan:

OK, let's be buddies! My next cycle would start on Wednesday.  Have you generated your menus yet? I generated one and just "went with it" for this cycle, and I wish I'd realized that I could keep generating them until I got one I liked better.  One of my meals was: Scrambled eggs and hard boiled eggs, which is ridiculous.  But even with the exact same foods chosen, each menu you generate is different.

If you go to forgetcalories.com, you'll find this other diet. You can see by the graphics and the writing style that the same people or persons came up with this.  However, this one actually claims it has email support! There's another thread somewhere on this website where some folks have had the same large weight losses as you can see with WLFI.

OK, I'm taking off early today.  Let's' be in touch!

Hi, just checking in.  I'm still here and still on the plan (I had cookie problems, on my computer, not my diet, and couldn't post till I straightened it out!) and guess what!  When I weighed at the end of my first cycle, my husband asked how I was doing.  (I had not been talking about it, but he knew I bought in and was eating some weird stuff).  When I nonchalantly mentioned that I had lost 12 pounds the first cycle (that's before the 3 free days), he said he'd do it with me next time.  I am so pleased about that.  My biggest surprise was when he weighed in to start, and weighed less than I did when I started!!  I have NEVER NEVER weighed more than he does before.  I'm mortified and determined!

We complete the 11 days next Thursday, which will give us a weekend off.  I am so curious to see how we both did this week.

I'm reading these comments every day, and see some really good insights and advice.  Thanks for all of you who participate!

No.  You measure only just above the hip bone.

There are some very inexpensive ones on Ebay, so I bought one (just now, so I haven't received it yet).  I'll be curious to see whether the caliper measurement is different from the scale.

Susan,

My response to you was removed because I violated the posting guidelines re: links.  Try forgetcalories.com to see the other diet.

Yes, let's be "idiot" buddies.  That sounds like a good idea.  Have you started yet?

Last week, on Day 10, I went crazy.  I had frozen yogurt as a meal, and I ate way too much of it, then moved on to stuff I had bought in advance for the cheat days (which I never should have done, of course).

At first, I was depressed about my inability to stick with this diet, but then my period came the next day, so I figured it was all PMS.  I took the "cheat days" early, but tried not to go crazy, and now I have started again.  I am on Day 2 of the old plan this time.

So far, I am finding the old version to be a bit easier.  The meals consist of one food, which circumvents some of the problems I'd been having with the new version; I'd somehow feel I should eat all the foods listed for each meal, even if I didn't want them, and I'd eat too much.  Of course, preparing one food is also easier and there's less to carry around.

Yesterday I didn't feel too hungry either.  The old version has more sandwiches, which seem a lot more filling yet also present some boundaries for how much is a reasonable amount of lunchmeat to eat at one meal.

Anyway, let me know how you're doing! I didn't even weigh myself after my binge, and I'm going to wait a day or so, because I don't think it will help my mood if I did a lot of damage.

:dizzy:What happened?  Did everyone drop off the face of the earth:shock:?

Today ends my second 11 days of diet, and last week my husband got sick:confused:, and then graciously shared it with me:angry:, and now I am miserable--sniffing, sneezing, eyes burning, not exercising:crying:!  So I don't expect good results in the morning:sun:.  I just hope we get through with this by the first of next week, when it's time to gear up again!

How are the rest of you doing:question:?  Gotta be better than this!:nono:

Got my caliper. To my surprise, it says my body fat is substantially lower than what my scale says. It says I have about 19% body fat (which seems a little low to me), while my scale has me at about 32% (which seems a little high).

It is a very cheap item, but should still work. I tried multiple locations above the hip bone and they all gave the same result.

So now I am really confused! I still think about 15 lbs would be about right, just based on eyeballing the situation
