I think I prefer my plan as I'm already thinking there's not enough combinations at each meal.  Guess I didn't know how good I had it!  I had to email them about a problem accessing their website, but it cleary states that the email address is for tech issues only.  I know that originally it said the sign on was only good for 90 days, but I'm not sure if that applies to the new plan.  I would be nice if you could sign on to the new plan to generate some new menus just to mix it up some.  I don't think I could live on ground turkey for long!

Yeah, I only had access for 90 days, but you can print out as many menus as you want in that time.  I only actually went to the site for about a week and printed out enough menus to probably last me a year :yum:

I do like the old plan--I shake things up by using varying recipes and stuff.  For example, for the "lean ground turkey," I sometimes have turkey burgers (either eaten with a fork or using lettuce leaves as the "bun"), sometimes turkey sausage, sometimes ground turkey cooked with salsa and seasonings (kinda like taco meat) which I can use either on a salad (with salsa as dressing) or in a lettuce leaf wrap.  Maybe I'm boring, but I don't mind not having a side dish with my meals

Good luck KrissyBee- I'm on day 5 of my first cycle so we're close.  It will be great have each other for support.  I'm really hoping for great results!  Keep in touch.

Good luck, krissybee!  I've found planning is key--make a list of everything you need before you go shopping.  I know I tried shopping with just "an idea" of what I needed, and I ended up forgetting a bunch of stuff

Glad to hear you're still stickin' with it, iloveld!  Sometimes, the first few days are the hardest as you get used to something new, so you're doing great!

I'm now on my 5th day of my second consecutive cycle, and I'm glad to say that as of this morning (after 4 days), my weight gain from my 3 days off is nowhere to be found!

I was supposed to have "fresh grapes" with breakfast (turkey sausage) this morning, but I completely forgot about them.  Then I was supposed to eat my chicken meal I brought to work for my 3rd meal of the day, and I completely forgot about that, too!  So now I'm kinda combining 2 meals together (chicken as one, ham as the other) and am making chicken cordon bleu (without breading).  We'll see how that fares on the scales...I think I should be alright, though, as this isn't an everyday thing.

It's great to see some new people trying the IPD! I hope it goes well for all of you. I did 6 consecutive cycles and lost about 15 lbs. Right now I'm taking a week off just to give myself a break. I'll be starting cycle 7 on Monday.

I hope I haven't sabotaged myself! Sometimes, when you have a certain momentum going, a break can throw everything off. Anyone else had a problem with this? I'm hoping that this forum can get me to stay on track when I go back on the diet next week.

Priskah--I think you're safe.  I would think if the 3 days off each cycle didn't throw you off, then neither will a week break.  Plus, you know how well you've done so far, so you can use the progress you've already made as motivation to get you going again!

After Day 5 on cycle 2, I am down to 284 (was 296 on Day 1 of cycle 1).  I am loving this!  I know I need to add in some exercise (I'm not doing ANY right now), but I want to make sure I've got my food completely under control first since that is the hardest part for me (I have been a closet binge eater in the past).

Sorry I can't help, krissy...not sure if cheese is allowed.  I'm on the old version of the plan, and it has a day of fruits and veggies only, but there's no sandwich on that day--just 3 meals of fruits and veggies.  I wouldn't think a little cheese would really make much of a difference, though.

I'm cheating a little today...I have mixed nuts on my menu as well as chicken, so I am kinda combining them and using some all-natural peanut butter in a Thai peanut chicken recipe with broccoli.  I have never made it before, but as it's cooking, it smells amazing!

Hi everyone, Happy Monday.  I think I did really well this weekend.  Today is my all veggie day, had pinto beans with onions and jalapeno peppers for breakfast!  Salads for meals 2 & 3 then spagetti squash with organic, garlic tomato sauce (sounds pretty good  huh?!) for meal 4.  I can have 1 oz of cheese on each meal.   I took my daughter to the movies this weekend and had a meal of cashews instead of popcorn, worked out pretty well but I'm sure I ate too many cashews.  Nuts are a problem for me, I always eat too many.

Krissybee, I don't think you can have cheese on your sandwich.  At least that's how I read the menu.  How'd you do over the weekend?

How about you  Jillybean?

I did pretty well over the weekend.  I didn't eat anything not on my menu, but there were a few times I accidentally missed meals (either ended up napping or just wasn't hungry so didn't think of it) and a few times I combined ingredients from different meals together for a meal.  All in all, I am at the same weight still this morning as I was on Friday, so no harm done.  Not to get too detailed, but I'm also having, umm, female issues, so that might be affecting things (I know I'm retaining a bit of water because my watch isn't as loose as usual).

I was supposed to have an omelette as a meal today, but I discovered I had only hard-boiled eggs in the fridge, so I had egg salad instead.  I figure it's still eggs, and probably healthier to have ff mayo and mustard (in the egg salad) than the cheese I would have added to an omelette

About 10:30am right now, and I'm almost done with my second liter of water, so hopefully I'll drink a bit extra today to help shake some of this retention.  Hope everyone else is doing well and sticking to it!

Sounds like you did well Jillybean, the weekends are always harder for me.  I did have a couple of glasses of wine on both Friday and Sunday nights.  I know we're only allowed 1, but I figure that since I didn't have any the other nights that I could 'borrow' from them!  I have about 40# to lose, and am wondering what you lost the first cycle?  I'm sure hoping I'll show a decent loss.

I actually lost 10.25 pounds in my first cycle, but I have a LOT to lose overall (as in still another 135).  The more you have to lose, the faster your losses will likely start.  I know my losses will slow down over time, and I did lose just as much this cycle, but only if I count re-losing the pounds I gained on my first 3 days off   Next time around, I will be MUCH more careful with my days off!

Hi,  10 and 4# are great, wow.  Keep up the good work.  I go to the doc tomorrow, I'm sure they'll weigh me there so I should probably weigh at home before I go.  I wanted to wait until Friday morning, oh well.

Learned a lesson yesterday, my stomach didn't like having pintos with onions and peppers for breakfast!  I paid for it the rest of the day!  Any suggestions on what to have for breakfast on veggie day?  Krissybee, it'd be great to see a sample menu of yours for a day.  Right now I'm eating ham and cheese slices, other meals are chix sausages, green beans, yogurt (having regular instead of frozen), Garden salad.

Have a great day!

Krissybee, forgot to add that I'd love to hear more from the nurse that has lost 30# and kept them off.  Maybe she has some pointers for us?  How long did it take to lose that much?  Thanks!

Woohoo, down another pound this morning!  Can't wait for Friday morning to see what my grand total is for the 2 cycles...down 13 so far.

So the new plan has a day of ALL veggies?  Hmm...maybe you could just have some veggie sticks (celery, cucumber, carrots, etc) with mild salsa as a dip?  Or maybe a nice hot vegetable soup?  Half a baked potato with some other veggies (brocolli or shredded carrot or something) on top?  I like some warmed black beans mixed with corn, onion, and salsa--maybe any of those would be a little gentler on your stomach so bright and early?  I'm on the old plan, which has a day of all fruits and veggies (and you only eat 3 meals that day), but no veggies-only day, so I always have fruit for breakfast.  Sorry I can't be more helpful!

Hey Jillybean, thanks for the reply.  Unfortunately with the new plan they tell you the veggie you can eat on veggie day.  They are - Lettuce, Cucumbers. Green Beans, Onions, Celery, Carrots, Pinto Beans (yikes!), Sprouts, Broccoli, Zucchini, Squash & Peppers.  That's it, not even mushrooms (aren't they a zero calorie food - go figure!!).  So no potatoes, boo-hoo.  I do like your idea with the salsa, have to try that next time.  13 #'s in 2 cycles is so great, can't help but be motivated by that loss.  I want to hear more from Krissybee about her friend that kept it off.  I think that will motivate us further if we learn how.  I've been on many diets that work until you stop them then the weight comes back on so much faster than it came off.  I had this happen with South Beach, it worked, but I had to travel to England and couldn't follow it there.  I swear I regained it all in a month.  I need to make sure that doesn't happen this time!

Not butting in at all!  All tips are greatly appreciated, and the more the merrier!  Even though I don't have an all-veggie day, I do have a day where I'm supposed to have 1 fruit meal and 2 all veggies meals, and I'm not much of a veggies fan, so I think the V8 is a good tip   It may include some veggies not "allowed" on the plan, but it's also very portion-controlled and nutritious, and IMO, the good would outweigh the bad

Thanks, that's a great tip!  I really like spicy V8, learned to drink it on South Beach.  How long have you been at this?  How's it going?  Any more suggestions?  It's hard finding people that are on the new plan on this forum.

Thanks so much for posting!

Welcome Charlye!  The more the merrier (wish we could get this board active like it use to be).  I'm on day 10 of my first cycle and so far so good.  It seems pretty easy to follow.  Let us know if you have any questions and good luck!!

I agree--I wish this board were more active, especially since this is the only support board I can find for this diet.

I went way over with my arch nemesis food yesterday--mixed nuts   I had waaaay too many, but oh well...can only stand up, brush off, and move on, right?  I'm trying to drink extra water today to make up for all the extra sodium (the nuts were "lightly salted").

I can vouch that one very evil time for this diet is during the, ahem, female cycle.  I just want sugar right now, not ham or nuts or chicken!  But only today and tomorrow, then Friday starts my 3 days off...

Jillybean, at least the board has been a little better lately.  How can we get the regulars back?  Do you think we should start a new thread?  I noticed no one answered your question about the banana shake.  It really helps to have this board for support.  It's one of the main reasons I signed up for this plan.

As to nuts - UGH!  Me too, I can't stop eating them once I start.  I try to put them in snack bags so I have some built in control but I'm sure I eat more than I should even then.  Any idea, ounce wise, what a reasonable portion would be??

hmm, I'm not sure how many ounces, but I know I took 1/4 cup, and that's just over 200 calories according to Fitday (which is where I keep track of all my food and calories).  They sure do have a lot of calories, but also a lot of good fat and some protein.  I think my can says 1 oz is a serving, but that would be even less than 1/4 cup and wouldn't even feel like it's worth eating to me!

I've gotten pretty good about serving sizes, and I know yesterday's craziness with the nuts was more of an emotional binge out of sheer frustration for some issues I've been having recently.  Not an excuse, but at least a trigger/reason to watch out for in the future for me.

guys, just click on the person's name on the left next to any message they've posted, and choose Private Message to send each other private messages.  If you kept your email address private when signing up here, then you can't email each other (unless you just send each other a private message with your email addresses).  AIM is NOT the same as email...AIM is AOL Instant Messenger.  You can include this info in your profile as well so when someone clicks on your name, they can choose to send you a message via AIM (or ICQ, MSNM, or YM).

I'm on Day 11 of my second consecutive cycle, but I'm actually up a little today thanks to wonderful womanly issues   I'm still sticking to the plan, but I have some physical/medical issues that I think are preventing much weight loss (have a doctor appointment on Sept. 14 to get it checked out).

I did get a little creative last night.  My meal was "egg omelette and pasta."  I wasn't about to actually have eggs and pasta, so what I did was made some fried rice.  I used brown rice, eggs, veggies (frozen mixed peas and diced carrots, a can of bean sprouts, and a can of baby corn--choped, and diced onion), a little macadamia nut oil, sesame seeds, crushed garlic, light soy sauce, and ground ginger.  It was surprisingly good!

YUM!  That sounds great!  I'm missing my carbs a bit.  On the new plan you get 1 sandwich then the rest of the carbs come from fruits and veggies.  Any advice on to how to handle my first cheat days?  I'm nervous, how to you give yourself permission to eat this stuff then turn around 3 days later and quit?  I think it would be easier not to tempt yourself.  Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to have nachos and pizza but what if I go crazy and can't stop??!!  Have you ever had a problem with not going back on?  I think I'm just panicking...

Oh, don't think there are many carbs on the old plan, either--I think I only get pasta once or twice per 11-day cycle.  I also NEVER get milk (I take a calcium supplement because of this).  I think both plans have their ups and downs

I definitely understand your concern about the 3 days.  I went CRAZY on my first 3 days off and actually gained back more than half of what I'd lost in the first 11 days.  However, it's primarily water weight and goes away quickly once you're back on the plan.  I went insane, though--I had Chinese (the kind drenched in thick, dark sauces), stuffed-crust pizza, fast food...you name it, I had it   I paid for it, though.  Fair warning: after eating healthier for 11 days, your body likely will NOT be able to handle the junk food as well, and you may end up spending lots of extra time, umm, on the toilet :crying:  At least that's what happened to me.  So, if nothing else, that is motivation enough not to eat too much junk!

As for getting back on plan, I don't ever have junk food in my home anyway.  Once I go back to work, I get right back on my planned eating schedule.  I honestly have NO difficulty getting right back to the menus.  In fact, I look forward to it because I want to lose more weight.

I start my 3 days off tomorrow, too, and I will be MUCH smarter about it this time around.  I've already decided that on Friday, I will have my mostly "free" day since I am going out to lunch with coworkers and out to dinner with my boyfriend after a movie.  On saturday and Sunday, though, I'm going to try to eat "normal" healthy foods.  I won't be having eggs and pasta or ham and pineapple like on the plan, but maybe sandwiches on whole-wheat bread with hummus instead of mayo, turkey burgers on wheat buns with reduced-fat cheese, maybe even a pizza I can make at home with reduced-fat cheese, low-sodium sauce, and turkey pepperoni.  I'll definitely still feel like I'm "treating" myself, but the foods will be healthier instead of just junk :yum:

Jillybean, thanks for being the voice of reason.  It all makes perfect sense reading it in black and white.  Portion control and good choices is what it all comes down to once you're off plan and back to real-world eating.  I'll try to make this my motto this weekend.  I really wish Monday could be my 3rd cheat day instead of starting Friday.  Have you ever extended an 11 day cycle to 12 than shortened the next to 10?  Do you think it would be a bad idea?  We're out of town starting Sat and won't get home till late Sun, I'd love to have a nice steak for dinner Monday!  What do you think?:pig:

no, I've never extended or shortened a cycle.  I'm sure it wouldn't kill you, but it might not be as effective since the whole idea is to eat your calories from certain sources (fat, protein, carb) on certain days and in certain combinations, so you wouldn't know which day to add to make a cycle longer.  I would think if you want to stay off still on Monday, then just take 4 days off in between instead of 3.  I'll be taking longer breaks between some cycles for certain occasions.  For example, in October, we're going on a trip to visit my boyfriend's family, so there is NO way I'll be able to stick to the plan for those 5 days.  I'll stay on plan up till the trip, then take 5 days off and start a new cycle when I return.  I don't think cutting a cycle short would hurt too much, either--obviously, just don't expect as much weight loss

Another idea--is there a protein meal on your menu for Monday anyway?  Maybe you could just have steak instead of chicken or whatever other protein is on your menu for that day.

I have a challenge next week--I've been invited out to lunch on Thursday (Day 4 of my next cycle) to celebrate a new job with an old coworker, so I'm going to try to pick my next 11-day menu (I have tons printed out) that has either a sandwich or a salad planned for that day so I can still get something at the restaurant.  I'm a planner, what can I say

I think you have a great idea, I'll just have a steak for my meat on Monday.  It will be fairly lean so it shouldn't hurt much (I hope!).  I'd rather do that than change my 3 cheat days by a day.  I know it all comes down to common sense but it's a little scary at this point to deviate much.  Last night I went to TGIFridays, had Jack grilled chix with broccoli.  Ate it all.  I was suppose to have shrimp and nuts.  Probably shouldn't have eaten the broccoli but it goes against every good eating principle I know.  What do you think?  Are nuts protein?  Should I have just eaten the meat?

Any luck finding a plan that will work for your lunch next week?  If not, I don't think you can go wrong with a lean protein for 1 meal.  I can't imagine that it would mess up your progress.

Nuts are protein and fat (GOOD fats!).  I don't think you did a bad thing--I frequently add some veggies to my meals even when it doesn't say to.  Most have so few carbs and calories (unless it's the obvious starchy ones like corn or potatoes) that I don't think it makes a huge difference.

I did find a menu where the day I'll be out for lunch has a meal of "salad with dressing" and another meal of "chicken," so I'll probably just combine them (I do this once in a while...I know I shouldn't, but it makes life easier!) and get a salad with chicken on it--you can get that at pretty much any restaurant.

Ah... you guys!  I have purchased this diet and am trying hard to lose this ONLY recently gained weight and I cant seem to do it.  I feel like I just took this diet for a test drive for two weeks rather than really doing it.  What do I have to do/ or how to do I have to make myself think to get myself on this 100%?  I have gained about 20lbs this summer (ahhh!!!)  I need desperatly to get back to 130.  I am miserable and depressed!  I feel like this diet is very doable and have no complaints so far, but for some reason cant stick to it... its ridiculous.  I pride myself on being capable of so many things and yet... cant seem to stick to a diet.  (I have never REALLY dieted before) Please help, anything.  I read your posts all the time but this is the first time I posted myself.   Thanks in advance for your support. -k

kyrie--are you home from school for the summer or something?  I would htink being home and not having a schedule would make this much more difficult.  For me, the key is planning.  I know I get 4 meals a day, so I place them in the order I'd like (breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner--you can move the snack anywhere in the order to a time you need it, of course).  Then I make sure I have all the ingredients for everything I'll be eating the next day (take out any meat to defrost if I have to, pack a lunch, etc.).  With my work schedule, it's quite easy for me to stay on plan all week.  I eat breakfast before I go to work (around 5:30-6am), then I have my lunch at work (around 11am-noon), then I have my snack after work (about 3:30pm), and then dinner when my boyfriend gets home around 6 or so.  I don't snack at night, so that's never been an issue for me, but if it is for you, you can move the snack to be after dinner in the evening.  Maybe you could figure out a good eating schedule during your classes and/or work?

Another thing that helps keep me going is to try preparing the foods differently.  The menus can get somewhat repetetive, so I am always looking for new ways to cook some of the items so I don't get bored with them.  If you have a food you're getting sick of, feel fre to come ask, and we'll see if we can dig up any new suggestions for you!

As for weekends, I just tell myself that I can eat whatever I want NEXT weekend (since my 3 days off the plan fall on Friday-Sunday--I think that's how most of us do it).  I still try to eat 4 times a day on weekends so I stay in a similar habit to the week, and building habits helps a LOT.  Other than that, it's just mindset.  I know that I would rather be thin than have a cookie or a piece of cake at the office or a whatever else might be tempting me.  Once you've stuck to it perfectly for a day, you'll find the next day a bit easier (after all, you proved you could do it once, now why can't you just do it once...eleven times in a row?)

iloveld--weighed in this morning with a measely 3 pounds gone for this cycle, but as I've been mentioning, female problems may be the cause for not losing more this time around.  I'll be on my best behavior (well, maybe not best, but at least better than last time :chewing: ) for the next 3 days till I start my next cycle, so hopefully the first half of my cycle won't be spent just losing what I gained over the 3 days like last time!

krissybee--still hangin' in there?

Good Morning IPDers!  Weigh in this morning (drum roll please), I lost 6#s!!  I'll take it! Now I have to make sure I don't eat too much :pizza: this weekend and mess up my great start.

Jillybean, 3# is great too!!  It's always slower after the initial loss on any diet.  Don't get discouraged, good luck with the doc, hormones can sure reek (sp?) havoc in weight loss.

Welcome Kyrie!!  Jillybean gave you some good advice.  It helps me alot to plan, plan, plan.  I buy most of my food on Sunday, cook the bacon, hard boil the eggs and pack my lunches for the week.  It really helps me if I know ahead of time exactly what I'm eating, takes all the temptation away.  Take one meal at a time, before you know it 11 days will be over!  The non-cheat weekend is the hardest, but I just keep drinking lots of water and plan for the next meal.  Make sure you pick foods you really like for your menus, the first time I picked too much fish and finally decided to redo the menu instead of trying to prepare and eat fish for every other meal!  I find the deli meats are very easy and also grilled a bunch of chicken sausages and had those all week when my menu called for chicken and sausages.  Let us know if you have any questions.

Krissybee, how's it going?  Did you get my email?

TGIF!

wow, great losses happening all around...8.5 and 6 are AWESOME!

When I start my next cycle on Monday, I am also going to start doing some exercising.  I have not been active in soooo long and haven't been doing ANY exercise (nope, not even walking) while on these first 2 cycles of the diet.  I'll probably start with just some walking around the block of my apartment building.  I should wear my pedometer and see about how far it is...I'd guess a half mile, plus it has a little bit of a hill on the short sides.  Weather pending, of course, since it's certainly not outdoor walking weather here today (cool, windy, and rainy!).  If it's icky outside (either raining or too hot/humid), I also have one of those giant stability balls with a DVD of exercises I can do.

That's a good idea, I've been walking on a treadmill for 30 mins 2-3 times a week.  I hurt my back so I missed a couple of days this week, but I hope to get back to it next week.

I'm off to have some Mexican for lunch, wish me luck!  I'm afraid I'll inhale it without tasting a bite.

What's on your cheat list for this weekend?

Well one cheat meal behind me and I screwed up already.  I opened my mouth and said LARGE quesadilla and MORE cheese please.  Now I have a bad case of the guilts along with feeling too full, my pants are noticably tighter too .  Ughh!  Where can I buy some self-control??!  I don't want to go through my 11 days just to blow it in 3, I need to learn something during that time or the hard-fought weight loss will never  stay off.

I've blown it today, too, but I planned for Friday to be my complete cheat day.  I had McDonald's for breakfast and Chinese for lunch.  I might have Panera for dinner--not 100% sure yet since we're getting hit by the remains of hurricane Ernesto right now, so we might just stay in.

For the rest of the weekend, I have healthy yet still cheat-feeling foods planned.  I know I'll be having tomato soup (made with skim milk) and grilled cheese (reduced-fat cheese, light Miracle Whip, and fat-free butter on whole-wheat bread) at some point (one of my FAVORITE meals).  I'll also have a fabulous sandwich of lean ham, turkey, light Swiss, light Miracle Whip, romaine lettuce, centuer-cut bacon (40% less fat), and a little mustard on toasted whole-wheat bread.  Oooh, and cereal with skim milk for breakfast, maybe with some sliced banana.  Good stuff :yum:
