Welcome back Taknitoff. I am glad that you are back. Things seem to have fizzled a bit around here but you'll see a couple of IPDers who were here before.
Good Luck on your new quest. You'll hit your goal of 130. I know you will.

Hi everyone!
I had first posted that I had used the diet and gained back my weight. Well, my total weight loss at the time was only 10 pounds cause that is all I needed to lose. However, now I had started it again cause I had found that that is the ONLY thing that worked for me and I have decided to modify it this time so that I can stick with it even afterwards for no return gain save a pound or 2. When I am done, my plan is to do 2 things on the menu still and then have 2-400 calories meals either in the morning or afternoon depends on when I switch it. For the tuna part, I have replaced that with crab. I love crab. Anyway and my chicken if I am getting sick of the grilled, then I go for only 2 DQ chicken strips with nothing dipping. I am STILL losing. Not feeling one bit deprived or on a diet. Do you know why they have pineapple as one of the foods? I read in Woman's Day magazine that it stops hunger pangs. Honestly, people no matter how hard I try I just CANNOT stomach even looking at cottage cheese anymore, so when it is time to have that I just have fruit. Terrible aren't I for modifying it so. However, if it works then I am going to do it.

Good for you Goth Angel. I believe that making minor motifications to help make it a way of life instead of just a 'diet' will aid in how well you do over time.
I had a concern about the swap from cottage cheese to fruit. Cottage cheese is meant to be a protein meal, are you sure you want to sub an all carb meal for it? Oh well, so long as you are losing that's all that matters. With only 10 pounds to lose you should be where you want to be before long.
Keep it up!!

Thanks for the welcome back Jayelle. I just found out that we are having out of town guests from July 21-Aug.13. I know that I am not able(willing) to stick to the plan. It will be to frustrating and I'm not strong enough to make the sacrifice. We will be doing a lot of fine dining.
Okay, I will see everyone back here the week of Aug.15.
Take care.

Hi, I'm new to the diet. I have completed 1 cycle and lost 5lbs. I was hoping for a little more, but Iam not discouraged. I am a hard case, very resistent to losing weight. Next time I go to the Dr. (next fall) I might have him check my thyroid which I've never done. I was doing South Beach Diet which is fine but very slow weight loss so thought I would try this one because it has more structure to it. This cycle I need to improve on water intake. My exercise is fine. I have 50 to 60 lbs to lose.
I broke my ankle this last Xmas eve.It has been a long recovery process, 2 operations and foot in a cast, boot, or a splint for 4 months. Very depressing and frustrating!! Good news tho it is slowly starting to feel like a normal ankle and not like Iam trying to bend steel. I am walking 2 miles and have gotten my time down to an 18 min mile. The first mile I walked after going thru physical therapy took me 40 min.
Anyway the point I am trying to make is my attitude has changed! I can take this diet in stride as long as I see progress. I am just hankful to be up and walking NO wheelchair or walker!!
This board has benn very helpful especially those of you who have been on this diet for a while. We can see light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks!

I am back too. I have been off and on for a while since May. I weighed in at a new low of 216 on Monday, but today I am back up to 219 so I don't quite follow what happened there since I have been good.
Anyway, I am ready to get down to 200. I have some size 34" jeans that I can get into...but is not pretty. You know what I mean when you squeeze in. Anyway, I am not confident that 200 will put me in 34 from comparing with other guys that size, but it is my next goal none the less. Working out is going like clockwork every morning (45 minutes and then stretching and pushups.)
My wife is very happy where she is (down to a size 4) and wants to lose some problem areas, but she is not thrilled that it may put her into hard to find sized. I keep telling her that we will make due if clothes cost more and that it is worth it but she still seems torn. Anyway, she looks fantastic (always has, but you know what I mean. ;))
I will be trolling around and will start a new thread for active folks so we aren't lost in this or the other huge threads.
Cheers for now!

Welcome Anne and everyone! Glad to see you on board.
Jayelle, sucks about the scale. I hate when it crashes in on you, but you have the right idea...the number is not as important as how you feel about yourself. Good luck on the reset goal!

Hi Dobie and welcome back!!!! I am glad to see you. Its seems that all the regulars (from before Summer) have gone on either vacation, or just moved on from IPD. The board has been lonely and I have really stopped posting like I once did.
Yes, I had a scale snafu . I think deep down I knew it wasn't right, I kept making comments on how 155, 152, or what have you looks different on me now. I am still following the plan, somedays better than others . I have a pretty active schedule for the next 2 weeks and then its straight, and get these pounds gone for real, so I can then focus on body weight and problem areas. Hopefully at my ultimate goal of 145 the problem areas won't be so much of a problem :P.
Welcome back, and tell that tiny little wife of yours I said hello and Congrats on the losses.

It is with great regret that I am going to have to abandon this diet. Although I love the four meals a day and everything on the menu, apart from 7 lbs on my first cycle last year, which I put back on during the Christmas holidays, I have not lost any weight. I think it is too much food for me. The only time I lost a lot of weight in my whole life (I am always about 14 lbs overweight) was when I was living on my own and unhappy (not connected) and had nothing for breakfast, two egg mayonnaise sandwiches over the course of the day and a couple of gins in the evenings. So although I am not going to go back to that unhealthy situation, I am going to count calories from now on. I read on another site that I can only eat 1100 calories a day if I am to lose 2 lbs a week, which I am sure is hundreds less than I was having on FL4I.
However it has taught me a lot - I will continue to walk, drink water and not eat for 2 and a half hours between meals. I will also try not to mix proteins and carbohydrates, although I think my body is not fooled by that any more. When I am down to my goal weight (note positive thinking) I intend to go back on this diet as a sort of maintenance programme.
Good luck to everyone - especially Dobie who is an inspiration - and I will continue to check this thread and see how everyone is doing. It has been fascinating to hear from people all over America, I have never been to the US and am now determined to go.

I have quick grabbing variations for a lot of the items on the menu.
Banana Shake - I grab a banana and a glass of fat free milk and I'm on the road.
Orangepineapple smoothie - I cut up half a banana into a small can of Pineapple tidbits and grab a sunny D and I'm on the road.
Delicious Egg omelette - what better substitute than a spinach mushroom salad. Spinach, mushrooms, egg, bacon, sometimes tomatoes - just tell the restaurant to leave off any cheese - a little balsamic vinagarette and your out to lunch with your friends and still on the diet.
I did this diet last year and in 24 days lost 21 lbs. Gained some of it back over the past year because I have a love for food.
Doing it again now because I am involved with a contest at work that could be worth $220 for me if I win. I have been doing the diet since Monday and have lost 4 lbs so far. I usually only net about 8 or 9 lbs each time but it's worth it.
P.S. I don't ever deny myself my cup of coffee in the morning with as much cream and sugar as I want!!

Truebeliever, I am glad that you have had success with this way of eating. Your spinach mushroom salad sounds interesting..
I am still looking to take off about 10-15 pounds and am looking for ways to mix things up a bit with out blowing the 11 days. I guess I just need to loosen up a little.
Thanks for posting, please continue to do so.
Good Luck on your contest.

I will tell her. That is very sweet!
Last cycle ended back around 216, but I got my standard 8lb bump on break. (I don't understand that, but whatever.)
Today I am at 219 so I am back on track to break 216, but man I wish I did not put as much on over the break. Any >200lb guys out there who can comment?

Weight loss can be such a difficult and strange journey. I was starting to get a bit tired of IPD this week and almost quit . For some bizarre reason, my weight loss really picked up. This cycle I've lost 5.5 lbs in only 6 days! That got me motivated all over again!

amazon, I'm sorry to hear you are abandoning the diet. I certainly understand how you feel, though. Two of my daughters are also doing this diet with me and I think they are just about to do the same. I liked your little "pledge" though, and I think I will modify it and memorize it!
I promise to continue to walk, drink water and not eat for 2 and a half hours between meals. I will also try not to mix proteins and carbohydrates. When I am down to my goal weight, I will go back on the IPD diet as soon as I notice any weight gain.

| Amazon...Sorry to see you've had such difficulties losing weight. I also have tried everything short of surgery, and had difficulties in the past. I was wondering if you were on the old plan or the new plan. If you've been on the old plan, maybe you could take a chance on the new plan(or vice versa) and see if you have better luck. I have finished 3 rotations of the new menus, and have lost 12 lbs. It is very consistent for me, though slower than I would have liked. Of course, 2lbs a week is ideal anyway. I am going to Lake Tahoe Wednesday, so I will try to use what I've learned and hopefully not gain back what I've lost. I'll do a lot of hiking which should help. My next rotation will be using the old menus, but I do like the addtitional choices in the new plan.

| That is the new plan. I have been doing this plan too. Last week I accessed the old website and generated menus from the old plan. There are fewer choices, and most meals include only 1 item. The food is also different. Lots of Ground turkey and eggs. I'm trying one rotation on the old plan, just to see the difference. It might be interesting to do this periodically, for a change, but I prefer most of the foods and variety on the new plan.

Hello, I am new to the sight. I read through a lot of the discussions. I am considering doing the program. I am not very enthusiastic about it because I have been overweight since I had 4 children and my youngest is 15 now. I have tried many many diets and if I did lose weight it came back quickly. Right now I weigh 275 and I am 5'9". I have been under 200 pounds 2 different times. One time was with Phen Phen I got to 180 the other time was doing a diet where you only ate when you got a hunger pain and you ate anything you wanted even brownies I got to 190. I still try to follow that still but I tend to eat too much and I am a night eater. I used to wake up in the middle of the night and eat but during a psychology class I realized I was the rat pushing the lever to get the piece of food. So I reconditioned myself. If I touched the refrigerator door I had to take a swig of vinegar. Yuck! I hate sour stuff always have always will. I no longer do sleep eating, which is great but unfortunately I did not lose any weight. My problem is that I eat for pleasure. I like to eat anything and everything that tastes good. But I don't eat everything I want. I use a lot of restraint. If I ate everything I wanted I would probably weigh 450 pounds. I also do not exercise. At my weight it is very hard to even walk and very uncomfortable.
I have one question: On what diet is the frozen yogurt. I made my meal choices and did not see that offered at all.

I was on the old menu. I never tried the new one as I liked all the food choices on the old menu. I have been counting calories for a week now and I actually miss the FL4I diet! I have been making ground turkey etc and just counting in the calorie value instead. I think my portion sizes were too large before. Perhaps the solution will be to go back to the FL4I diet and count the calorie values of each meal as well. I think I will try that and report back on it.

Wow! Are you my long lost twin? I was always relatively thin until my 4th child, who will be turning 15 this month. I'm only 5'4", but I've been up to as much as 215 lbs. I'm small boned, so that's a lot on my little frame. I've done just about every diet you can think of, The Beverly Hills Diet, The Sugar Busters Diet, The G Index Diet, Weight Watchers, and the Weigh Down Workshop (plus a lot of other obscure plans you've probably never heard of).
The only two that really came close were Weight Watchers and The Weigh Down Workshop. But so far, IPD is working pretty well for me. This cycle (my 5th) has been especially amazing. I've lost 6.5 lbs since last Monday! Since I began on May 30th, I've lost a total of 13.5 lbs. I'm currently at 187. As you can see, the results really vary from cycle to cycle and you can always expect to gain a few pounds back on your free days. I'm always recalculating my results to keep me from getting to discouraged. I divide my total loss by the days I’ve been dieting to get an average loss. This helps, because even if you gain a little back each time, you can see that you are still on a losing streak.
For example, I’ve lost 13.5 lbs in 64 days. That means I’m currently losing at a rate of .21 a day or 1.5 lbs a week. That doesn’t sound like a lot, but it is a consistent loss. By this time, I would normally stop losing altogether.
I use the diet generator on the Fat Loss for Idiots website. What makes this diet so simple is that you have to do very little planning ahead. Also, because you pick the foods yourself, it feels like you are always eating things you like. It can get a bit boring, but since you pick a new list every cycle, you can vary things. And then, there are also your three free days every two weeks! I definitely recommend giving it a try.
PS: The frozen yogurt dessert is listed first on the carbohydrate list of the Diet Generator. Wal-mart has lots of flavors!

My name is Reyna and I have just begun the 4 idiots diet. I lost 5 pounds the first week and am finishing the 11-day plan on Thursday. I am afraid to gain back even if I stick to the foods mentioned as part of the diet. I only need to lose 10 more punds and think that this new diet will help me. I am Mexican and love Mexican food but have been on diets so long that when I eat Mexican food it is a real treat. Please keep in touch with me as I haven't been lucky connecting with members. Hasta la vista, Reyna

Hi Reyna,
I just started my 6th Cycle of IPD. It is very easy to gain a lot of weight on your free days, but these days are really important to your success. Eleven days go by quickly when you know you will have three days off. It makes it much easier to stay committed to the plan in the long run. You should really enjoy those three days.
On my free days, everyone starts tempting me with all the foods I've managed to avoid for the past 11 days. Last cycle, I lost 8 lbs! At the end of my free days, I'd gained back 3.5 lbs. I know it was mostly water weight, but it can be discouraging unless you begin to understand your body's pattern. After just one day back on the diet, I've already lost one of those pounds.
Hang in there! This diet works!

Hi guys! I'm new to this messageboard. I stumbled upon the website Fat Loss 4 Idiots, and think iot seems good. The thing is, I really want to be 100% sure it will work. Can someone send me an 11 day example, (I don't care about prefrences or anything) so I can see if I lose anything, and then buy it.
Thanks to anyone who helps!

loonygurl8, there's no point to doing that because on ANY diet you will likely lose weight during the first weeks. Why is explained in the Tutorial.
I'd suggest you read more of the forums and ask specific questions if you have them, but I don't think an 11 day test will be meaningful.

Well it isn't just to see if I lose weight, but also to see if the food on the diet aresorta filling and such. If I feel comfertable, then sure I'll pay the money to see the e book and diet maker thing. So PLEASE copy and paste or copy down an 11 day cycle diet.

Hi loonygurl8,
One thing to keep in mind is that nearly everyone has some difficulty when they first start this diet. By that, I mean that they feel unsatisfied and sometimes get headaches. After the first few days, this goes away. Now, I find, I actually start to crave some of the foods on my list when I'm on my free days. How crazy is that?
This diet works by having you choose foods from two lists; carbs and proteins. Then it generates the plan for you by combining the right foods together in each meal. The carb list contains things like frozen yogurt dessert, various vegetables, fresh fruit, beans, and oatmeal. The protein list contains things like deli-meat slices, bacon, fish, nuts, and cheese. There are no wacky recipes or disgusting foods (like tofu) on the lists. It's all healthy, tasty food.

I agree!! I start to crave unsalted peanuts if I go a few days without! And I've grown to love "Very Vanilla" soy milk!
Now if I could just find 1% large-curd cottage cheese, my life would be complete.

HI! I started this ll-day diet and it worked well for me during the first eleven days. My three-day weekend proved to be catastrophic. I started the ll days again today and I hope I lose every bit of the 5 pounds I gained these last three days. I am going a bit crazy with the same food but I really have not been hungry.
My goal is to lose another ten pounds and hope to do so before October. That should ot be very difficult.
I still don't know how to get into the forum or if I am doing the right thing with this short note. Please let me know if I am being read by somebody.

Hi, this is the first forum I have ever been apart of. I was impressed by all the good advice I have seen on this site and the willingness to help and support each other. I am hoping that this will help me stick to this plan bc I have been having problems. I had great success with the old version of WLFI last year, I started out at 200lbs & got down to 183lbs. So I know it works but, lately I haven't been able to make it past 3 days without cheating. Now I am 230lbs which is not so bad BC it's solid. However I soooo badly want to see the other side of 200lbs. I am going to start the 1st day of the 11days tomorrow. Anyone with any helpful suggest or advice or success with this plan it would be so encouraging for me to hear from you. & Greatly appreciated
Thank you

Mismekaj,
Don't you dare be discouraged or intimidated! This plan works (as you know); just stick to the darn plan. I have trouble too - staying after day 5 is my nemesis. Just envision yourself in 11 days. Visual imagery is a strong incentive in weight loss.
When I was in college (28 years ago!!) I weighed close to 200#. I had been up and down 40# for about 4 years. When I got my head under control, the weight came off and I stayed at 132# until getting pregnant 12 years later! Even after 3 kids, my weight was 130-140# and I'm 5'7". Finally at about age 41 I could no longer easily lose 5-8# when I wanted to. This diet has shaken up my metabolism and seems to work well. BUT YOU MUST STICK WITH IT. I've gone off it many times for a day and jumped right back on the bandwagon...so don't beat yourself up if you mess up a little.
Remember, the rest of your life is ahead of you and 11 days is nothing!

| This diet sparked my interest too so i paid for it .....it does work and your not hungry. You shouldnt eat longer than 15 min. In other words ( or less) and it starts to seem that you fill up faster as the days go by. I felt bad at first. You eat every 2 1/2 hours and I felt that I was eating all of the time but after 8 days I lost 7 pounds. Weigh yourself only once a week too. Pick a day. The trick is when you come off tthe diet you have to pay attention to things you eat. It gives you a list of do's and dont's and tips on how to eat out at restaurants. Good Luck!!!

Hi everyone, I've read all the posts since the beginning and decided this was something I wanted to try. I started today, would like to lose 40-50#s. I have a few questions - do you all just eat a hunk of meat when it calls for it or do you prepare it some way (like with spices or vegetables?) Does decaf tea count as part of your water intake? Is it ok to exchange one meat/fish for another? Are we still suppose to eat Oat Bran bread? I couldn't find it anywhere so ended up with 15 grain instead. I ate my first 2 meals today before noon and now I'm having to wait to eat my next 2 so I have something left to eat around dinner time, how do you usually space your meals? I know a min of 2.5 hours inb etween, but if you start that at 7:30a, you have eaten all your food to early.
I hope we can get these forums active again, it was great seeing all the support that was out there in the past.

I eat very very little bread on this diet. I have substituted once in a GREAT while, usually some kind of nuts for another protein. Don't stray too much!
My weak time is from 7pm until bed, so I have found that in the morning I wait until i am really hungry, then about 3 hours, then 3, then all of a sudden it's 8pm or later and I still have a meal left! Try it!

Thanks Cowgirl, I'm trying that this morning. It's 8 and I haven't eaten yet, just drank water. Today is my fruit day, I think I'll have it for meals 1, 3 & 4 and have my deli-sandwich for meal 2. At least this will break it up a little. How have you done with fruit or veggie days, any tips?
Sure would be nice to see Shamrock, Jayelle or Dobi posting again, how are you guys doing? Your past emails were part of the reason I decided to do this.
Thanks to all

I eat my first meal at about 5:30am since I work from 7am-3pm. I then have lunch around 11:30, then a "snack" (whatever my lightest meal for the day is) when I get home at about 3:30, then dinner at about 6pm. This works really well for me--I used to get hungry after dinner, but after a few days, my body got used to not eating in the evening, and I'm no longer hungry after dinner

| Thanks JillyBean! Would you mind another question? I seem to have fish (flounder, halibut, orange roughy, etc) for at least 2 meals a day! I really don't want to have to buy all this different fish and twice a day is too much for me. Can I just pick 1 (white) fish for all days and maybe substitute chicken for the double fish days? I'm just on day 2 (all fruit) and even considered regenerating my menus without any fish! What do you think? Know any good fish recipes!

I'm not much of a fish fan, so my menus don't have a lot of fish. I cheat a little bit by having low-fat crab cakes for some of my fish meals--for the rest, I buy frozen microwavable fillets that are flavored (usually garlic and butter for me). I also cheat again by having tartar sauce with it...I just don't like fish enough to eat it plain, so I make my own tartar sauce from fat-free mayo mixed with sweet relish.
I'm on the old plan (my menus are from about a year ago), and I'm guessing you're on the new plan, so I've never had a repeated meal on any day (never chicken twice or fish twice or anything like that). Maybe you could use tuna salad instead of actual fish fillets? Or smoked salmon? Or canned crab meat? I would think if you really want to make a replacement for fish that chicken would be best since it's still low in fat and high in protein.

I thought about trying the old plan but just signed up, so I automatically have the new one. Have you tried both or just the old? I'd like to see them side by side to see which one I prefer. Do you remember how to get to the old one? The new one has shrimp along with all the fish, I've thought about subbing the shrimp for all the fish, but even that might get old, maybe scallops?
How long have you been doing this and how successful have you been?
Thanks!

oooh, scallops sounds good, too!
I've only done the old program because I signed up so long ago and would have to pay the $27 to sign up for the new plans now, and I'm just too cheap to do that
From my reading/understanding, the new plan has more variety and doesn't include funky combinations (I have a meal of "eggs and pasta with sauce" coming up soon). The old plan doesn't really include any dairy besides cottage cheese (which I don't like, so I don't have it on my menus)--no milk, no cheese, no nothin'. Also, this old plan doesn't have the sandwich and fruit days...instead, there is 1 day where you eat 2 veggie meals and a fruit meal and that's it--only 3 meals that day, and certainly no sandwich.
I just started using these menus again about 2 weeks ago. In my first 11 days, I lost 10.25 pounds, but that's likely a lot of water, plus I'll lose faster than others since I have SOOO much to lose (I weigh about 290). I gained some back during my 3 days off (of course), but it's already going away since I started back on the menus again yesterday.

10# is great!! Way to go! The new plan gives weird combos too, one day I have hard boiled eggs and scrambled eggs - crazy! I wish I could figure out these combos so I could make them more enjoyable. It's going to be hard sticking to this for the long haul when you're faced with roast beef & halibut or ham and flounder for dinner night after night!!
Keep up the good work Jillybean!

Good morning, folks (it's 9am here)!
On to Day 3 of this second consecutive cycle for me. Mixed nuts are on my menu today, which is something I love to eat but have a problem with eating too many. Last time they were on my menu, I had them as my lunch meal (I do breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner), and I ate just about the whole can! It didn't seem to affect my weight loss, but it was frustrating that I couldn't control myself. Today, I plan to have them as my snack instead of a normal meal, so my mindest should be a bit different. I'll also eat them at home instead of work, so maybe I can pay more attention to what I'm doing. I'll try taking just a small measuring cup full of nuts to eat instead of taking the whole can. Hopefully, I can get more than 1-2 meals out of a whole can of nuts this way!

Hi, Glad to report that I survived my fruit day just fine (the sandwich helped - a lot!). I decided to print a new menu w/o the fish - problem solved! It had fruit on day 2 so I don't see a problem with switching. Not feeling hungry, drinking lots of water, spending way too much time in the bathroom! So far so good, I'm going to stay off the scales until day 12, wish me luck. I sure hope I see some results. I did fat smash diet for 3 weeks, lost 7# in the first 9 days, then nothing for the next 1.5 weeks, very frustrating! I hope IPD does the trick. Nothing worse than following a plan, working out and not seeing any results!
Have a great day!

iloveld, glad you survivied your fruit day!
I'm on the old plan, and today's menu is 2 veggie meals and a fruit meal. Now, I don't deal very well with veggies, so I cheat a bit. I had a bowl of fresh, whole strawberries for breakfast, which is fine. Lunch will be a salad of romaine lettuce, strawberries, and chopped pecans (hey, if people say they can have beans on fruit/veggie day, then I can have nuts!) with a light asian sesame ginger dressing (I don't think we're supposed to have dressing on this day, but I won't eat ANY veggies without some flavoring!). Dinner will be a bean and veggie chowder-type thing I made (I'm sure the low-sodium, organic chicken broth and fat-free cream cheese in the recipe aren't allowed either, but like I said, I need some flavoring!).
*sigh* I really don't like fruit/veggie day, but I'm STILL carrying a few extra pounds from my 3 days off, so maybe it'll help me kick some of those off

Good luck with your veggie/fruit day. I love the asian sesame dressing from Paul Newman, is that what you use? I've even stir fried veggies with it before, very tasty. Here's my meal line up for the day -
1 - Shrimp, Macadamia Nuts
2 - Turkey slices, bacon striips, apple
3 - Hard boiled eggs, Cashews
4 - Fruit Salad dessert, Strawberries (think I'll just add these to the fruit salad, duh!)
Sounds good to me! I have to watch the nuts, yesterday I ate too many.
Enjoy those veggies!

Wow, so I guess a major difference between the new plan and the old plan is that the new plan gives you more food combinations. On the old plan, my meals only usually have 1 component with the occasional exception of pasta (always with a protein) and sometimes a protein with a salad. For example, my day might be:
- lean ground turkey
- egg salad
- mixed nuts
- oatmeal
It's interesting to see the differences in the plans. I wonder what made them change it? Maybe people were complaining about too few choices or too many repetetive meals? Although I don't know how anyone might complain about anything, since I can't find any contact info
