Hello everyone Im new to this site and to FL4I. Ive been on the site for a few days reading post and gettin excited about trying this new diet that seems to have great success for many. Ive tried just about every diet ever popularized. Atkins, South Beach, Lemonade and even took drastic measures starvation, low calories, and herbal laxatives. Im looking to lose weight but also get healthy. Im only 23 and have been battling my weight since i was 8. Im tired of battling and want to finally win this fight. This site seems like a very supportive place and i would love to be involved. If someone has the time to catch me up i have a few questions, What is the FFF's and SV's? Are ppl begining day one of the diet Jan. 5th? What do you actually get when you download the program from the website and did everyone here download the diet plan or jus passing it around to each other? Sorry if its alot of questions i just want to get caught up and start my weight loss like everyone else.

StarlaW~Welcome! Everyone here has purchased the program. After you purchase it, you will get a list of food to pick and then your diet will be just for you. Each cycle you pick different foods or the same whatever, you just can't repeat the diet you just finished. For the price, you will be able to generate as many diets as you like...if you don't like the combinations just go back and do it again until you find an 11 day diet you can do.
FFF stands for Fat Food Fighters and they will start their next cycle on Monday Jan. 5. we like to start on mondays so that our cheat days are fri., sat., and sundays. The SV stand for Shrinking Violets. They are on their cheat weekend now. And they will start tomorrow. Not all of us are on teams. just some of us who want a little friendly competition...it helps to keep us on track. At the end of each cycle we post the weight we lost from day one through day 11. and then a very nice lady...Webfairy, adds all the losses up and posts the totals of each team.
So if you are uneasy about sharing your losses each cycle, you don't have to...you can just read about all the "losers" who do.hehe!!
If you would be so kind as to add where are you from, that what be great...and again...WELCOME!

Babs - Welcome back!  That is remarkable that you were able to maintain for all 3 weeks on holiday!  That is just great!  I know we are starting a cycle on January 5th, to get past all the holdiay celebrations (including New Years).  I am wondering if anyone will be starting this Monday?

Starla - WELCOME!  You will find this forum very encouraging and helpful.  The FFFs are the Fat Fu Fighters and the SVs are the Shrinking Violets.  These are teams we started to help each other stick more strictly to the diet.  It seems that when you are accountable to someone more than yourself, sometimes, we stray from the plan less.  You do not have to join a team, though.  One team starts on one Monday, and the other starts on the following Monday so there is always a cycle going.  Then at the end of each cycle we post the losses to give others an idea of how much you can lose per cycle.  We do not pass around the diet.  You have to download your own, as there are different foods to choose from, and we all have our own preferences for what we like to eat.  The diet is individualized based on your food choices.  It then generates an 11 day menu for you.  You are on it for 11 days and off it for 3 days which we call "cheat days".  The main things you must do to be successful on this diet is to space your meals apart (at least 2.5 hours), drink 80 oz. of water a day, and ONLY eat until you are SATISFIED, not full.  We share recipes to help make the foods more exciting, so if you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  Everyone here is wonderfully supportive.  This is the best diet most of us have come across, with the most success!  Good luck!

Ooops, I guess Kitty and I were posting at the same time.

This will give me time to empty and restock my frig plus get thru the New Year holiday, cuz ill definately be partying. Plus i love to be part of a competition Ive done the biggest loser at my job twice already with a hefty cash reward to be won but I have always done it the unhealthy way and of course the weight comes right back and with a little more to add. Well ill see how this goes hopefully day one isnt murder for me

Starla - That sounds great.  We look forward to having you join us!  Oh, and don't worry... Day 1 won't be murder.... Day 2 will be!  Hehehe... just kidding!  You get 4 meals per day and Day 2 is three meals of fruit and one deli sandwich, so be sure to choose "deli sandwich" on your menu choices when you pick your foods.  Believe me, you will need it.  Ok, it really isn't that bad... but fruit day is, let's say... "challenging" for most of us.  It seems like summer is easier as you can blend fruit up and make smoothie type drinks, and eat plain fruit.  But the colder months you have to get a little creative with your fruit meals.  Annie posted a "Goochie Apples" recipe and many of us have our own fruit concoctions for that day.  You can check out the recipe section of the FL4I forum for some ideas.  But keep in mind, it is only one day of the 3 fruit meals and you CAN get through it.  When you eat your deli sandwich, I am betting you will fall in love with deli sandwiches every fruit day, like you never have before!  Day 8 is all veggies, and beans are allowed, so some of make veggie chili or pinto beans (you can mash them or make them however you like - within diet guidelines).  Spaghetti squash makes a great "mock spaghetti" with shaved parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves.  You will see which fruits and veggies are allowed and you can always ask if you aren't sure about something. You are allowed 2 spoons of dressing or 1 oz of cheese on veggie day, so that helps with some recipes.  The rest of the days have protein and I have always enjoyed the meals.  You can get sick of some of the food combos, so keep i mind that the more foods you pick for your menu, the more variety you will get.  That can help.  Even so, if you don't pick as many choices and you get many of the same foods for meals, you can always prepare them differently so it doesn't seem like the "same old".

Overall, I never really felt like I was dieting while on this diet (with the exception of fruit day).  You are only on for 11 days at a time, so I think it makes it easier to stick to it.  I lost 45.5 lbs, in 4.5 months.  I am still holding my weight, as I ended the diet 10/31 (although I did throw in one cycle before Thanksgiving as I splurged a little... ok, a lot).  Many others have had great losses.  You get 4 meals, eat until satisfied, so you are never going hungry, and the water quotas help keep you full in between meals.  Also, make sure to read the diet handbook, and note which condiments are allowed.  Good luck!

Ok im still doing some research online and just reading up on some reviews and ppls testimonies. So now i have more questions,  does cottage chesse really count as a meal and what are the portion sizes? and if thats meal four on day 2 is that all i get to eat for that meal cuz ill starve! i get the eat until your almost full but cottage cheese? i like it but wow to make it a meal. ive been reading recipes that ppl have been posting to make sure i wouldnt get bored with food choices but this is scaring me a little. i guess theres nothing to do but start. weightloss is always a plus.

Starla - You don't get ONLY cottage cheese for a meal.  You get between 2 and 3 items for each meal.  You can eat one item, two items, or all 3 items.  It's your choice.  The main thing is to not eat too much.  It is nice to have the other options so you can combine them to make a meal.  Let's say, for instance, I get chicken and cottage cheese for a meal... salsa is allowed as a condiment on your meals, so some of us add onion and tomato to certain meals since that is what salsa is made of.  I like to mix salsa and cottage cheese and use it as a topping for chicken (or fish even).  Sunshine made a mock cheesecake tasting dessert with cottage cheese by adding a powdered lemon drink mix (I think it was).  Maybe it was something else, but I was thinking Crystal Light lemonade drink mix would work.  If you get tuna, you could hollow out a tomato and fill the inside with the tomato, onion and tuna mixture.  These are just some ideas.  Your menu might look odd for some meals, but you can always click the back button and regenerate another meal plan, like Kitty said.  Or you can just get creative.  Ask questions, as we have all been through some very strange combos, and we can normally find a way to make them work.  So when you generate your menu, let us know if we can help give you some ideas.  This really makes a difference so you stay on the diet.

Hi Starla! Welcome!  I'm relatively new and this forum has been such a blessing!  I purchased my diet on eBay and only paid $8.99 - I hope it's okay to tell folks this - She sends you a link and you just download the info - very simple - it's been the best $8.99 I ever spent - that's the understatement of the world!  Good luck to you - I'll be starting back up on January 5th with the FFF's but I originally started as an SV - Been staying on track this week - but it's been hard with all the goodies surrounding me - You'll have great success with this diet - Laurie

Hey everyone!!
I am pretty new...did the DG about 3 times and lost a bit, but have kind of fallen off the diet wagon all together and have been stalled here.

Was thinking of trying the BC starting tomorrow?  Is it ok to be on that and still be part of the discussion?

Hi Princess- welcome to the forum.  It certainly is fine to do the BC and come to the forum with questions, comments, etc.  I have done the BC several times and do like the fact that it is a little more flexible than the DG.  I felt like I wanted to stay on the same cycles as my buddies here on the forum, so I modified a bit and did a fruit day and then a veggie day on the 2nd and 8th day of the cycle just like the group here was doing.  I treated the BC like an 11 day cycle and still took the cheat weekend like you do on the DG.  (have I made any sense).  Since the BC is a 10 day cycle, I just inserted the fruit and veggie day and left off one of the 10 days to come up with my 11 day cycle.   I guess that's kind of cheating, but I think, in a good way!!!

I have abandoned the plan for the holidays and have gained about 3 pounds as of this morning.  I have SO enjoyed all the goodies but will be ready to start back on the 5th of January.

Please insert your city/country under your name.  It helps all of us to know you better and lets us know what time zone you're in.  Again- welcome and we'll look forward to hearing from you often.

Welcome Starla and Princess! I know you will find this forum to be a huge help. Any questions you may have....someone will have the answer! Good luck on your starting, wether it be tomorrow or on the 5th with many of us. It really is the best diet ever, and the forum is heaven sent.

On that note, Babs....what a story! I go off the diet for a day and it seems like I gain 20 pounds back...if I took a 3 week holiday....oh my! Good for you! How nice it must have been to just relax and spend the time with your son, not worrying about food. That's so great!

Hey Laurie, Larry, Kitty, Cubs, Jane, Web! I'm so glad you have made it through 2 of 3 holidays! Web, I am so jealous...all that See's and no gain! Spinach and artichoke dip is just not right without bagette, and you made it through that too! Wowee! I can't wait to reach my goal and just fluctuate those couple pounds here and there! Whatever you are doing...keep it up!

I had a great day with my family today. We had lunch together and I ate everything in sight. What a treat. I did keep it to only 1 meal, and stuck to the menu the rest of the day. I am finding it really hard sticking to 4 meals a day for some reason. I have been getting busy, and forget to eat! So I've been squeezing 3 in, and even that's been tough. I will be so on track come the 5th. Vacation will be over, my daughter will be back in school, I will be getting up at 7 instead of 10 or 11 like I have been (oh it's been nice) I am so excited to start back in the new year. Never have I been so close to my goal. I feel so much better about myself. I know that losing the last 17pounds will be even more of a change. What will I look like then I wonder? Hmmmm...can't be a bad thing! Have a great night you guys. Thanks again to you all for being here and part of my life. Welcome again to our newbies, you have joined a great family! And hey there to all our MIA's! I hope we will see you all back here with new goals and success stories to share come the begining of the year! Hugs and good night!

Hi folks... looks like I fell off the FL4I radar again; wasn't getting the posts for a couple of days.  I thought maybe y'all were busy.

Welcome to all the new faces!  So good to have you here.  I truly hope you enjoy this new way of eating.  I've been on FL4I for over a year, now, have lost 30lbs and gained none of it back.  You might be worried that you've always gained the weight back on other diets, but I assure you that won't happen on FL4I.  It's not so much a diet as a new approach to food.  That said, it may take a few days or more for your body to adapt.  That's normal.  You may feel a little dizzy or headachy on fruit day for example.  But that will pass.  And the reward is a delicious deli sandwich at day's end.  Just a note: if you do feel dizzy, etc., on fruit day, that's just your body pleading for protein.  So have some whey protein isolate powder mixed with skim milk, or have a hard-boiled egg.  It won't throw the diet off and you'll feel better right away.

The beauty of this plan is that once you're familiar with the basics (say, after a cycle or two) you can make some changes.  You don't have to eat everything plain.  Our recipe page has hundreds of ideas.  Many of us, for example, got sick of tuna.  So we either didn't select it for the next cycle, or we just swapped in another protein, like chicken salad.  ...Shrimp can be prepared in a multitude of ways, you don't always have to have defrosted cooked shrimp.  I have those sometimes, but I also by frozen raw, deveined, tail on white shrimp, thaw them and marinade them in lemon juice, olive oil, crushed garlic, cumin, chili powder and hot sauce.  Let them marinate for at least 15 minutes then toss them into a hot skillet, turning once after a minute or so.

The point is that with just a little creativity you won't get bored.  But to start, stick closely to the plan.  Right from the outset, I made a large fruit salad the day before fruit day and let it ruminate in the fridge overnight.  Having a variety of fruit in this way is so much more interesting than just sitting there eating apples.  Be sure to dust your fruit salad serving with a bit of cinnamon powder.  This will mitigate against a blood sugar spike.  And if you like, a dollop or two of non-fat, sucralose sweetened yogurt of your choice on top never hurt anyone.

Good luck!

Best,

Larry FFF

P.S.  Web... I felt your sister's pain!  In my teens, it seemed as if all the girls were drinking sickly sweet drinks, like Southern Comfort, and getting sick as horses.  Mind you, you got a few more kisses that way, but then came the projectile vomiting and well... kind of ruined the mood.  L.

The reason most of us start the cycle on monday, is because our cheat days fall on friday, saturday and sunday. So, It's up to you.

Jane - Glad you lost all your cheat weight.  As much as we complain about it, fruit day really rocks!

Princess - Welcome!  You should start whenever it works best for you, but like Kitty said, it's nice to have Friday - Sunday off for cheat days as that is when most of our "social" lives take place.  So Mondays work best as a start date for that reason.  I hope you and hubby feel better soon!

Zeva - YOU will be maintaining very soon, as your goal is just around the corner.  I am so excited for you!  I think it is great that maintenance is going so well.  I can hardly believe it myself, but I STILL weighed the same this morning.  I think this should help people in seeing how you CAN keep the weight off after you end the diet.  Larry is even longer proof!

Have a great day everyone!

Aw, Princess....sorry to hear the 2 of you aren't feeling well. It is hard to be on this diet when you have a stomach thing, seeing as you need to eat! You really can start anytime, but when you start on a Monday, you get every other weekend off. So if you have dinners, parties, or just munchie family time on a weekend, it works out great.

Web, I am excited too. With my 2 days off the plan so far, I'm only 1 pound away from being at last cycles weigh in. So if I can lose that last pound by Wed...I'll be happy. If not, that ok too. Still under that 200 mark, never to return. Everytime I step on the scale I am surprised. I am always expecting disappointment, but what do you know??? I'm always under. Yay!!!!

Today is veggie day and I just had some super yummy Butternut squash soup. The sun may be shining, but it is still very cold in my house. The warm creamyness warmed me right up! Have a great reat of your day where ever you guys are at!

Hello, my friends! I am like Jane and started a day early also so this is my fruit day. I weighed yesterday and could not believe I had gained ten pounds since xmas eve! I weighed this morning after the first day and already lost 6 pounds of it! Talk about water gain! Whew! So, so far it's me and you, Jane, starting an SV cycle! Let's rock it!!!

I am looking forward to this fruit day because I always get rid of the excess water gain after choice days and just feel so much better the morning of the third day! I certainly hope the other 4 pounds of gain leave me by tomorrow morning, so I can put a dent in the rest of this cycle!

I am making it tough on myself by making my kids a pot roast and rice....one of my favs! But I will be strong!

Babs, wow, that's awesome that you can take three weeks off and not gain back a pound! I hope you had a fantastic holiday! It sounds like you did!

Starla, welcome aboard! And never be sorry for asking any questions you may have! I know I have asked my fair share myself and there is always someone here to give wonderful direction and help! Glad to have you with us!

And also welcome back to Princess! I seem to remember your name and one post you made a while back. I hope you and hubby feel better very soon!

Hello all:  On our 2nd time around on this diet and I have a terrible time with fruit day.  I detest fruit as I have trouble finding fruit I can eat.  I have trouble with textures of kinds of fruit or can't stand the taste.  I tried smoothies but with a limited amount of fruit to use it just makes me miserable for this day.  I would rather not eat.  Anyone have any ideas to help??

TR... I have a friend who says that, to him, all fruit tastes like old pennies.  So I sympathize.  If fruit is a trial for you, why not sub in veggie day for fruit day?  You do need to have those carb days, and all the vitamins and nutrients you get from the fruit you'd also get with a veggie day.  Try it and see if it makes any difference to your fat loss.  It might, a little, but if doing two veggie days per cycle works for you, then at least you won't be dreading fruit day and will be far less likely to abandon the plan altogether.  I hope you like veggie day or else I'm out of ideas!

Good morning to all!

Sunshine, I am so glad to see you back. So sorry to hear about the flu too. We have been so fortunate to not catch anything major, just a few sniffles here and there.

Amj, isn't this diet great, that 10 lbs will be gone in days, not months! You are doing amazing, and keep me going. Keep it up...you ROCK!

TR, I'm with Larry. If you have tried adding tomato soup, having a sandwich, and 2 meals of fruit are just too much.....sub another veggie day. I would just not have the beans. Keep it very light. I personally look forward to fruit day, that's when I lose all my cheat day weight, and get right back on track. Although it is the most grueling, it seems to be the most rewarding....for me anyway, so I tackle through. Anthing to keep you from ditching the plan altogether.

Speaking of fruit day, JANE, when I came back from my 2 week holiday, I gained 10 lbs. I ate like a pig, but anyway, I returned on a saturday, and did a fruit day Sunday to jumpstart my cycle starting Monday. It worked beautifully! So great idea, especially after the New Years Celebrations! I am ending a day early, on day 10, but will take it easy over the weekend. I will be back and ready to start with everyone on the 5th!

Hzl, glad you are back! Are you ready???? Monday, Monday, Monday!!!! You can do it girlie! We are all here, new year, new us! You can do it!

I wish everyone a blessed day! Wow, the day before, the night before, the begining of a new year. I still can't believe it has gone so quickly! Have a good one all!

Larry:  If I can sub veggies for fruit I have no problem.  I love veggies and can eat them.  Do I lose nutrition value though?

If anyone else have an input let me know.  I can use the help!!!  If doing veggie day can sub for fruit day I can do this much easier.  I just don't want to not lose weight because I eat veggies twice and no fruit day.

Thanks for your support everyone!!!

SS... so good to see you!  Especially out from under that dark cloud.  Not that it's all "happy days are here again," I know.  But move forward we must.  Great to have you back.

TR... my guess is that adding a veggie day won't hurt.  What do you normally eat on veggie day?  Zeva is right to say that keeping it light will help.

Zeva... you're in such a good mood!  I, too, am looking forward to more success in the new year.

That's all for now,

Hi everyone!!
Thanks so much for the warm welcome!  Amjacie, yes, I was on here about 3 months or so ago looking for the BC spreadsheet that someone had made, and I did get it!! I never tried the BC plan.

LONG story short....

My name is Jihan, I am a 30 year old new mom of a wonderful 15 month old (guess he's not that new!!) boy and wife to my husband of 6 years.  I work full time from home for the National Cancer Institute and also Part time for a local Hospice.  I go to school part time on line.  I've had weight issues from literally before I can remember.  Fat camp at age 8.  yes. sad. so.  basically been struggling with this forever.

Well, I've tried them all: atkins, ww, southbeach, jenny, beveryhills, slimfast, etc.  you name it ive tried it.

I finally was convinced to try FL4I by my wonderful sis in law who loves it and I did about 3 cycles, only of which 1 was successful. I kept getting sick and wasnt able to finish the others.  anyway.  I lost about 11 pounds!!  At this point my mother wanted to do Nutrisystem and asked me to do it with her, her dime.  so i thought, sure why not.  well, the month went well, i abandoned FL4I, lost only 5 lbs, and now after the holidays have gained them back! Also, my mom no longer wants to do the NS and I just cant afford it.

SO.  here I am.  back to the FL4I.  bc its really not a bad "diet" if i had to pick from all the rest.  and it works so well!! I'm hoping with this board that i can really do it this time and just be over this struggle!!

I was going to try the Beyond Calories b/c i just wanted to see what that was like, but I do like the structure of the DG, so i dont know.  what do you all think?  Or maybe I'll try the BC from now until the 5th and then start a new cycle of the DG with you all on the 5th?? I'm just so ready to do this already!!

Looking forward to getting to know you all!!

Princess, I know your story, as it is my own. Seems like forever, I'd lose, gain, lose, and gain again. People ask me what it is about this diet that is so different from the others, and how can I stick to this one so much better? Honestly, I dont know...I can't give them an answer other than this forum. You are not alone here. There are great ideas flying around all the time. I feel like I can type, instead of eat an eclair. I've laughed, and cried with all these people. I mix things up alot so I don't get bored, trying different meats and cheeses, veggies, anything! I dont know why, but this has been the thing I've needed. We are all here for you, remember to type, and not eat something you aren't suppose to. Good, bad and ugly...we've said it all. I hope this works for you this time around. You have the support and motivation you need, the rest is up to you! Monday, Monday, Monday.....it's on!

Oh and Larry, I am in a great mood! It is a beautiful day, the sun is out, we are all relatively healthy, and I am still breathing...who could ask for more? It is a day of thanksgiving! As everyday should be. Tomorrow may be a PMS day, so take the good now! Hahahaha!

Princess, that's why your name stuck out with me! I am the one who emailed you the bc spreadsheet made by our previous moderator, Rayna! I did try the BC, but for me, I really find the generator easier to do. I just don't have the time to plan out 6 meals and do better being told what 4 meals to eat. Now, I do know some who preferred the BC and had great success, so I would definetly try both as I did and then stick with the one you prefer! Good luck!!

Sunshine, there you go, shining that sweet :sun:Sunshine around the board again! You are such a dear person and I truly appreciate you ! I am so glad you are feeling better and am so sorry hubby has that dreaded flu now!

Zeva, thank you for the kind words!! Do you remember when I was terrified to weigh after cheat days? Now I weigh quite often but am able to handle it now because I know if I keep going it's going to work, no matter what the scale is saying! I weighed today and lost 8 of those ten gained. I am hoping to make it back to my low by tomorrow and start putting a dent in the rest of my goal!

Jane, it's you and me for the SV's this time around! We can do it!!!

Wow, can you all believe 2009 is right around the corner? I will be running the Karaoke show at our bar and grill when the New Year rings in. What's everyone's plans for the Eve?

Amjacie!! It was you!! LOL!! I thought so but I wasnt positive!! Thanks so much for the spreadsheets! I'm actually looking over them now!!

what do you think? Should I try the BC this time around?  I kind of wanted to start something right on the 1st.....not sure I'll be able to get to the store before then though to stock up on everything....

You have to excuse me...I'm still feeling YUCK so I'm talking out of a foggy brain!  LOL

Princess, I think the BC has an excellent structure. I would sit down and plan out your meals using the spreadsheet. Start on the first and finish  on the 10th. The SV's begin a new cycle on the 12th, so if you decide to try the DG next, you could start with us. Or if you decide you don't like the BC you could start the DG on the 5th. I really like the Sunday or Monday starts because of the free every other weekend, but you can begin a cycle any day you wish! I think you have the right mind set and are ready to commit! You can do this!!!

Hello all:  On veggie day I eat veggie chili and beans with pico. I also eat garden salads.

I will sub veggie day for fruit day as I don't need the sandwich anyway.and  eating beans instead of bread and meat for that one meal is a good trade.

I do love this diet and look forward to my weight loss just need to find a way to get through the fruit.

Thanks everyone for your help and support

Amj (can I call you that?) I love your idea.  That's what I'll do.  I'm going to try the BC from the 1st through the 10th, take one day off and then start a DG cycle with the SVs.  How do I officially join that group?  I love the name too.  I'm so excited to plan out my 10 days!  yeay!! I'm so glad I (ok, well, my sis in law found this site, but still) found you guys!

 Evening all!

I do like coming on this forum as I am on line a lot because of my work.  I work from home as we have 3 holiday rental websites that I manage and I do some work for Google.  I am 39 and I live in the South of France - I am Scottish - with my 3 sons and hubby.  Not sure if I ever told you all that?? But I was interested in Princess's story so thought I would tell you mine.  I have been dieting since having kids really always Weight Watchers.

Princess L4L I think works for me because I love cheese, bacon, sausages, nuts I do not have a sweet tooth and not to mention the glass of wine per night!:martini:  the results are great and as you can have a few days off every 11 days it keeps you going.

Terrier - lots of people have given advice - I am with Zeva tom soup - this has really helped me.  I like fruit but I find it hard when it's cold.  However I am sure your choice of veg day will yeild the same results - if not change back.

Sunshine - Yay! Welcome back, lovely to have you on here again.

Zeva - thanks for fruit day advice, I know the 31st and 1st will involve a lot of eating and drinking so an extra fruit day will help!!

Princess - so glad you will be an SV - you don't have to join just start Monday 12th and tell us - Web - your loss Friday 23rd.

Amj - way to go on another 2lb my SV buddy.

Hi Slim!  Nice to see you and thanks for the good wishes.  I send the same your way.

Someone asked what we'd all be doing New Year's Eve.  My breathtaking evening will probably be spent at home.  I did buy some nice sparkling wine, though, and some orange juice.  It's a nice combo.  I might pop over to the neighbour's who host an annual thing, but I dunno.  Stunning, right?  Who knew you could have this much fun?  Although it beats waiting for a cab in the bitter cold at three in the morning outside some bar, with people tackling each other to get to the cab first.  I've seen that a few times.  Much safer this way.

Take care out there, everyone!

Jane, I haven't actually had the Tomato soup on fruit day myself, I like to keep to the plan since I don't usually have a problem on that day.....but mentioned it since a few were adding it in. But if it works, go with it! I think it's a great idea.

TR, adding the beans instead of bread sounds like a fair trade, but then again, I'm far from an expert. Like I said, just keep it light and you should be fine.

New Years eve for me will be spent without my DH. He has to work, like all years before. Me and my girls plan to spend the evening at a friends house having a mexican fiesta! We are just having a pot luck, mexican themed. I am bringing a sour cream and chicken enchillada casserole, and a coronado casserole (which is a layer of rice mixed with sour cream, topped with a chicken, chile, pepper and tomato mixture, topped with cheese) Talk about yummy goodness! So you can easily see why I am cutting out a couple meals early! I will come home early to avoid driving my precious cargo around (my girls) with all those crazy's on the road, leaving the bars at midnight. It's scary, and I'd rather just be home to ring in the new year. It has been a tradition since my great grandmother to open the door at midnight. This lets the old year out, and the new year in! What a great way to keep her memory alive! Anyway, have fun whatever you all decide to do, be smart and safe! I want to hear from all of you come Thursday!

Wow the forum is hopping again!  I guess everyone is getting ready to start the new year off with a bang - lots of weight loss!

Jane - A second :apple:fruit day sounds like a great move!

TRacer - (subliminal message : You love  fruit day) I agree with Larry about swapping a veggie day for the fruit day, if you cannot handle it at all.   Really, I am with you on fruit... I am not much of a fruit eater AT ALL.  But a lot of it is in our attitude and, after all, it is only 1 day out of 11 days.  Is it really that unbearable?  (subliminal message : You love  fruit day) I get a headache and I am very irritable on fruit day.  So not only am I not fond of fruit, but it makes me feel horrible!  Still, it is so worth the tiny sacrifice... 3 meals on one day... that is it!  The sandwich is my immediate reward, and then the next day losses make it soooooooooo worth it.  I turned my attitude around about fruit day towards the end of my dieting, and I made myself look forward to fruit day because of the outcome (the losses).  Your mind is very powerful, you know.  (subliminal message : You love  fruit day) I am only saying this to you so that you might give it one more thought, before you decide.  The other thing is you could try a veggie day and see what happens.  I don't think you will see the results that you would on fruit day, though.  I can almost assure you that your cycle loss will be less without the fruit day.  But you WILL still lose overall. (subliminal message : You love  fruit day) So if it is worth it to you because it is too unbearable, then go with the 2nd veggie day.  But in that case, you might skip the beans the day you swap veggie day for fruit day, like Zeva suggested.  Yes, it does sound like a fair trade for the bread, but you will be trying to make up for swapping out the fruit for veggies, so that might make a difference.  Maybe try to stick to just veggies that day - no beans.  You may have better results.  That is just IMO.  Whatever you decide, let us know how it works out for you. (subliminal message : You love  fruit day)

Hazleyez - Welcome back from CT.  I am looking forward to next Monday, too!

Sunshine - It is sooooo wonderful to see you!  We have missed you so much!  Sorry about the illness.  You have had so much on your plate.  You need a nice vacation and a good pampering!  Hugs to you!!! :rose::palms:

Zeva - You do sound so upbeat!  I was smiling just reading your post!

Princess - I haven't done BC so... whatever Amjacie says... hehehe.   I do like the DG because I like being told what to do (as far as the diet goes ).  I definitely would like to hear what your losses are like on BC, if you try it.

Slim - Your posts are always such a "pick-me-up".  They are so colorful and  happy and like "sunshine" :sun: on the forum!

Kitty and Larry - I am staying home on New Years Eve, as well.  I bought a bottle of champagne and will be making Poinsettas.  I used to make Mimosas (and still love them), but the orange juice is too acidic, if I drink more than one.  Of course, after a few, who really notices that?   The cranberry juice is much better on my tummy, I find.  The LAST thing I want to do is be out on the road with a bunch of drunks.  My BF doesn't really drink, so he will have a glass with me, and then it will be my responsibility to finish the bottle.  I mean, it's not like you can drink it the next day with all the fizz gone, right?  Waste not, want not...

Hey ALL...thanks for the warm welcome back...I really appreciate it!!

Too bad we don't live nearby...sounds like we are all on the same page as far as New Year's Eve...wouldn't that be grand...all of us together sharing laughs, stories, movies, appetizers(and Zeva's casseroles and Slim's gourmet food and a Kitty cake), warm hugs and a glass or two.  You all are so much fun here....I just think it would be a hoot to welcome a new year in with all of you!  You will be in my thoughts!

kitty... I know what you mean.  New Year's is always a letdown.  A friend of my sister's used to get into her bathtub and hide (no water, fully clothed) because as she saw it, it was all so arbitrary.  What year is it really?  No one knows.  It depends on your religion, or lack of same.  It makes more sense to celebrate the changes of the seasons, but that's too pagan for many.  What year is it in Mayan?  Aztec?  Iroquois?  Chinese?  When was the Earth formed?  Some say 6,000 years ago.  Some say 5 billion years ago.  But when exactly?  ...July?  ...No wait, that was Caesar's idea.

There is no year.  We number things to mark the passage of time.  And yes, the Earth revolves around the Sun in a given period of time.  So what?  That's true of any 365 day period.  Why isn't April 23rd New Year's Day?  It makes no sense.  What year is it in the Andromeda galaxy?  Or any of the other trillions of galaxies?  Here's the answer... it's always now.

Maybe, kitty, it's a letdown because on some level we all know how meaningless New Year's is.  We don dumb hats and blow air through noise makers... isn't that a clue?

Web... hilarious post!  But something tells me TR will never  fruit day.  I am curious, however... how do you intend to make Poinsettias?  Where I come from, that's a plant.

Zeva... just opening the front door wasn't enough for my parents... so we had to beat two pots together at length to scare off the demons of the year passing!  Then we had to run to the back door and repeat, just in case those clever demons had figured out we had a back door.  But that's the Scottish for you!  Hi Jane!!!!  Actually, I'm a mutt.  English, Scottish, Irish and toss in some French Canadian and Blackfoot.  So no wonder I don't know what year it is!!!

And finally, to SS... I love the notion of us all celebrating the bizarre notion of a new year together.  Maybe we could organize a FL4I convention?  For the time being, however, I'll have to make do with the January 1st birthdays of my two gorgeous Norwegian Forest Cats, Abby and Pearl, who will turn 9 on the day.

And finally finally, I hope none of you gets depressed when that clock ticks over.  It's no more a reason to get depressed than it is a reason to get stupid drunk.  It's just a moment in time.  And something tells me that "time" isn't all that impressed with it.

So live long and prosper.  Or, conversely, "target that explosion and fire."

...Waiting now for the first of you to identify that movie quote.  First prize is a free year's membership to my gym, and an autographed (and seriously doctored) photograph of me and my cats.  ...I'm the one without the tail.  Mostly.

Cheers,

Larry FFF

Sunshine - YES!  I wish we could all get together!  Maybe this year we can work on a convention.  We could try to get wealthy sponsors so that everyone could travel to the decided upon location.  Hmmm, sponsors... when there is a WILL there is a WAY.  Where to start...

Larry - How is this????

Captain Hikaru Sulu: [after seeing the Enterprise's torpedo hit the Bird of Prey] Target that explosion and fire!

[Sulu's ship witnesses a huge explosion on the Klingon moon, Praxis]
Brigadier Kerla: This is Brigadier Kerla speaking for the High Command. There has been an incident on Praxis. However, everything is under control, we have no need for assistance. Obey treaty stipulations and remain outside the Neutral Zone. This transmission ends now.
Captain Hikaru Sulu: An "incident"?
Commander Janice Rand: Do we report this, sir?
Captain Hikaru Sulu: [Turning to Rand] Are you kidding?

Captain Hikaru Sulu: Nice to see you in action for one last time, Captain Kirk. Take care.

Captain Hikaru Sulu: In range?
Helmsman Lojur: Not yet sir.
Captain Hikaru Sulu: Come on, come on.
Helmsman Lojur: She'll fly apart!
Captain Hikaru Sulu: *Fly her apart then!*

[first lines]
Captain Hikaru Sulu: Stardate 9521.6. Captain's Log, USS Excelsior. Hikaru Sulu commanding. After three years, I have concluded my first assignment as master of this vessel, cataloguing gaseous planetary anomalies in Beta Quadrant. We're heading home under full impulse power. I'm pleased to report that ship and crew have functioned well.

Captain Hikaru Sulu: [an energy wave has buffeted Excelsior] Don't tell me that was any meteor shower!

Lieutenant Dimitri Valtane: [checking the scanners] I can confirm the location of Praxsis, but...
Captain Hikaru Sulu: But?
Lieutenant Dimitri Valtane: [turning to face Sulu] I can no longer confirm the exsistance of Praxsis!

Captain Hikaru Sulu: [pointing to the image on the viewscreen] Praxsis?
Lieutenant Dimitri Valtane: What's left of it, sir!

Larry - Poinsettas are cranberry juice and champagne.  They are just like a Mimosa except that a Mimosa has orange juice instead of cranberry.  And since cranberry juice is known to be good for your urinary tract, the more Poinsettas you drink, the better.  Right?  You drink, then pee, and repeat until the bottle is gone.   Wow, I think it could be a type of cleansing drink.  Or maybe not....

Hey, Guys,

I wish you all a wonderful weight losing year, and even though I don't really like the New Year's Eve celebration, I DO like having a day to really acknowledge/celebrate the passing of time and seasons  - out with the old, in with the new - and to really look physical mortality in the face. To me this is sometimes melancholy, sometimes scary, sometimes  thrilling - or a little of each mixed into one!

Since I'm not regaining any weight I've lost - even though I feel I am WAY overdoing it with enjoying some special Holiday treats - I'm even getting a bit paranoid enough to wonder if I am "sick" or something....:dizzy:...am I nuts or what?

But in any year past I would have gained 5 pounds in the past week with all the luscious meals, foods and treats! Now my scales are sitting firm on my last weight loss goal.

Is that a small miracle, a retrained appetite, and/or metabolism???????

If I'm not sick, then I guess I really AM retraining myself to pick the right foods for me, and to not feel I am dieting while doing so!!!!!!!!

I also drink lots more water than I did before, and seem to naturally pick smaller, lower carb meals.

I agree with those here who wish we could meet up a wonderful celebration/conference with each other. I would be so happy and honored to meet you ALL!

My son in Australia's New Year's Eve arrives in 3 hours, mine in 7 and most of yours later on.....

HAPPY NEW YEAR!:martini::beer::shooting_star:

Love,

Oh yeah....got my black eyed peas on the stove to have with my greens, dried apricots and cornbread on the first day of the New Year. (Traditional southern US New Year's Good Luck Food)

Just a little cheese plate, soup, bubbly wine and Dutch traditional Olie bollen en Appelflappen for tonight!

 Last post for me in 2009.

Web - love your Star trak post and the sound of your champagne drink :martini:

Princess - I have sent you a PM about Google work.

Larry - enjoyed your rational behind New Years eve also agree Scots are mad!

Zeva - your evening sounds lovely.

Slim and Kitty - have a nice evening.

We are going to a friend's house for a party tonight - lots of us! In France the kids go too, no baby sitters so we will all be up partying until dawn - last year it was 5am! (the kids were asleep by then obviously.) Probably the same tonight - dancing and having fun. :star::martini::beer::heart:

Will have 3 of my 4 meals today and tonight well...... then tomorrow we have a big meal so back on the 2nd but I am extending my cycle by 1 day (fruit day.)

Wishing you all a happy and healthy 2009.  Let's hope we all meet our goals - weight wise and life wise.

Much love to you all.

Hello all:  Day 2 has come and gone.  I have lost all that I gained on cheater days plus a little extra.  Until it warms up and I can try smoothies on hot days I will continue to trade veggies for fruits.  I did very well yesterday.  I only had a little beans for one meal and chili without beans.  I will try fruit again someday when it warms up.  For our new years we are going to a show.  Also will be shoveling out from another storm as well.

Happy New Years:cool:
