Good morning everyone!

I finally saw 179 on the scale this morning! Tomorrow is the last day of my 2nd cycle and I am proud to have stuck to it this far! This weekend is my birthday so I know the celebration and goodies my family and friends have planned is going to do me in but its ok because I plan on enjoying every minute without any reservation. I'll just have to come back on Monday with more motivation than ever. It does seem quiet in here like on*a*mission said, I hope everyone is doing well and is enjoying their weight loss.
I did generate a new menu and guess what? Two hamburger days! I was ecstatic! It'll make it a lot easier for me since pizza and burgers are my absoluet favorite foods, and being able to have 1 out of 2 isnt bad! This cycle has been nuts for me, I have cheated a couple days, slacked on the water on others, and skipped some meals the other days because I wasnt feeling well or went to bed too early...oh well next cycle I can make up for it all hopefully!
Let me know how you are all doing! Summer is coming..just keep thinking about that as motivation!
Best of luck to everyone,
Cris

I am jealous !!! I am not seeing any difference on my scale....
Jealousy aside ;), happy for both of you cris/on*a*mission. Cris, how much did you loose in this cycle with the cheating and less water? Enjoy your b'day goodies :D

tryin*hard,
I lost about 4lbs..my acctual weigh in date is tomorrow (or friday morning really) so maybe ill lose one more. I'll take it, but expect to gain it all back this weekend...oh well, bygones be bygones
Dont give up, as long as you feel healthier..plus my weight has always been stuck between 180-200 so to get under 180 makes me excited, even if it just 1 lb, and t gives me the motivation i need to get even further under 180 when i come back strong monday..no cheating next time!
Good luck!

Here are common problems that I think people face if not losing. Anyone have any to add?
- Snacking
- Too many extras with your meals (i.e. no grapes or cheese in your tuna)
- Eating too quick and therefore too much
- Drinking things other than water (some with sugar or sugar subst. A little is okay, but limit it.)
- Not drinking enough water
- Not exercising. You don't have to have this to lose, but you will do better on the scale and FEEL BETTER. Make time for this one, guys.
Hope this helps. Let us know if I hit on anything that might explain your troubles.
Best of luck!

How long have you been on this program? Sometimes, I think, your body has an adjustment period because it's not sure what the heck you're doing! Don't get discouraged, keep drinking the water and walking and I'm sure you'll see and feel a difference!

Great attitide, Cris! Enjoy it! Let me give you a tip though...if you have just a little and savor it, you remember it just as fondly! For my brother's birthday I had a decent size (too big) of cake and ice cream and we talked and before I knew it, it was gone!!! If it is small, you savor it, have JUST as much fun, and when you think back, you enjoyed it MORE because of less guilt! Just a thought. It's your day!!
My BDay is FV day...and I am sticking with the F&V. Why? I know it's my day, but I am scheduling my party to adhere to the days off. When I am skinny, I can afford to make it whenever. For now, I am On*a*Mission too!

:DDOBIE THANKS SO SO MUCH!:D
I was very bummed today,I got some bad news, basically just cancelling all my birthday celebrations due to a unforseen funeral, so alot of my friends can not come visit me. Your message totally made my day a lot better.
I do plan on celebrating a little bit anyways. My cheat days are this weekend so Im not tooo worried. But I do plan on just eating until Im satisfied, instead of stuffing myself like I did during my first cheat days. I am finally understanding the change in lifestyle that everyone's been talking about. I need to learn portion control, always drink as much water as I do on this diet, and pick up on the excercising.
Happy Birthday to you too!
Best wishes,
Cris

Congrats on your cheat days. I think it is great you are following the plan somewhat on the cheat days since we have to learn to do this when we reach goal.

Hello everyone, I have been watching this forum for a couple of days and it was facinating to see how much is support is out there. I applaud everyone that is making an effort to change their "eating" lifestyle. This is day one for me on the WL4I program. I went out on a limb and tried it because I want to be more healthy and look great for my husband who is in Iraq right now. (When he gets back of course.) I am a little shy but would love to get to know everyone and jump on the weight loss bandwagon. I really would like to give "Dobie" and "Shamrock" kudos for inspiring so many people. According to all your posts, you have been at this thing for awhile and I just appreciate you helping so many people along the way. YOU ARE REFRESHING! Well I just wanted to say hello to everyone and wish you all SUCCESS!!

Hi All, And congratulations!
I did WL4I for a week a while ago, and lost a few pounds (many more yet to lose!), and plan on starting it again after company leaves once the weekend is through.
I've got one concern though, and I'm just wondering how you all feel about it.
It seems like the menu calls for a lot of eggs. I know I could generate a different menu in an attempt to avoid that, but even in doing that, there were still heaps of things with really high protien levels, which is concerning in my mind. I've heard that eating that much protien is like pouring acid on your bones.
I can see that this diet works for weight loss, but I worry that overall, it might be unhealthy. Does anyone else worry about this? It's great to have the pounds come off so quickly though, but that in itself makes me nervous.
Nonetheless, I love how this diet is so simple. As a mom that spends a lot of time running around, I don't have the time to spend counting calories.
Also, any opinions out there on drinking 10 glasses of water? Doesn't that seem a little high?
And congrats to you all for doing so well!

Most quotes about the acid are attributed to John McDougall and do not seem to be collabrated.
As to this diet not healthy...I feel very healthy! I eat more fruits and veggies than I used to and my weight is much healthier.

As for water, different sites have different answers. Peter posts this:
http://www.caloriesperhour.com/faqs_water.html
I believe that it helps me feel better, and MANY times when I am hungry or want to snack, I am really just dehydrated and water quenches that "hunger". CNN says it is high, but can't hurt.
Other sites of "interest" on water:
cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/diet.fitness/02/11/salt.water.ap/index.html
shirleys-wellness-cafe.com/water.htm
betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcarticles.nsf/pages/Water_a_vital_nutrient?open
Best of luck and let me know what you investigate and find.

Dobie, thanks for your reply! It's good to hear that you've done it, and feel very well. How long have you been on it?
My plan at the moment is to stick with it rigidly for one 11 day cycle, and see how I feel after. If it's good, I'll stick to it, but extend the "days off" for longer and longer periods of time, trying to form a habit of what I would consider to be a healthier variety of foods in my diet.

Happy Monday everyone!
Well, I have to follow my own advice and get right back on the program after a weekend of not doing so hot -- between St. Patrick's Day, dinner with friends, and my husband's birthday I splurged several times. The good news is, when I was not splurging, I was pretty good so the damage was minimal (about a pound)! I think now that this eating style has become a way of life for me, even when I cheat, I can hear my stomach grumbling like my metabolism is trying to keep up with the "extra." Since my metabolism seemed to be MIA for a LONG time, this is a welcomed change! I still would like to lose about 5 more pounds and tone up some so I'm back to it today.
Good luck this week everyone!

Me too. Birthday, travel, family...all these things knock me off. BUT I am in a much happier area of fluctuation! My hope is that life settles down so I can get a few cycles back to back and reduce to a new level of fluctuations that is 20lbs lighter than I am now!
I hate how our culture eats! It has taught be some BAD habits that are being broken...most of the time. :?

Good morning all,
I can relate to falling off the wagon. I dont know what is wrong with me lately but I am just not as motivated as I was at the beginning. But even with the cheating I have been doing, my weight fluctuation is a lot better then it was before! I think I am going to start a new cycle tomorrow. I want to start it today but its my bday and I have dinner plans, cake, etc...oh boy...
Also, I am re joining my gym tomorrow so hopefully that will speed up the process! Its spring you guys! Next thing we know its summer! Better get in beach going shape!
Good luck and hope everyone gets remotivated or even more motivated!
SUMMER SUMMER SUMMER!

Hello,
I have a problem:(. In the menu I generated I chose cottage cheese becasue I can not stand the thought of eating anymore ham. But I have never tried cottage cheese before. Well I had it this morning for bfast for the first time and it was the most foul thing ive ever tried! Is there a substitute that I could use for the cottage cheese other than ham? I really dont want to go back to ham but I know I wont be able to eat the cottage cheese!
Any help or advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Cris

Cottage cheese is foul. I made the same mistake you did once. Blah! Awful stuff. A friend of mine would put Splenda in here and ate is as a "dessert" since it was sweet. That was the only way she would eat it. She loved it. It was better, but I still couldn't eat it. What were the other choices that came up when you chose cottage cheese?

Cris:
When I have something on the menu that I don't feel like, I just switch it for something else on the list. In this case, switch the cottage cheese for a different protein.

Hi everyone. As you can see, I'm new to this board. However, I am not new to this diet. I tried it once last year, and it does work.
Since then I have a new job that is stressful. I'm certain that the stress has caused the weight gain that i have seen lately. It totally sucks. My mood is bad, my energy level is bad, I'm just so frustrated that it is effecting every aspect of my life. I've been going back and forth in regards to this diet because everyone I have talked to says not to do it. They talk about high protein diets being bad for you and how the effects are fast, but short lived and certainly turning me on the path of yo-yo-ing. However, I have been starving for a week, excersizing and have actually gained a couple of pounds. It just so tempting knowing that by now, i could have been down 5 pounds on this diet. I have to do something, because my motivation is in the toilet. But, i am nervous about this diet being unhealthy. I just don't think it is as unhealthy as the "low carb" diets out there. We aren't eating bacon and cheese everyday. We do eat friuts and some carbs. Regardless, I must do something before I get too upset about my weight. So, here I go. I'm joining.
I wish I had done it yesterday, but Tuesday works for me. I'll just have 2 cheat days instead of 3. But, I did have a slimfast for breakfast today. Should I just toss this day or go ahead and start?
Glad to be here, girls.

Welcome Arkie!
I don't know why you think this diet is unhealthy -- it includes all food groups, encourages exercise and drinking lots of water -- what's unhealthy about that? Like you, I lowered calorie intake, exercised like a fiend and had extremely minimal results. I have been extremely successful on this plan and feel great.
I'm just curious...if you were on this before and had success, why are you nervous now?

I think I worry about the long term effects. I worry about the maintence part of it. I should be due to my experience, really. I know that my weight gain is a factor of stress and poor diet. I have just been listeing to others talk about "low carb" diets and how they are bad for your metabolism, your choloestrol, how the results don't last, etc. It's just me listening to others that has me in a tizzy. I'm excited about starting again. Really I am.
Do you think I should start tomorrow since i had that slimfast at breakfast? Or, just dive in?
Thanks!! I appreciate the support.
Arkie.

No time like the present! I'd dive right it. The day that I started, I wasn't planning on it. I actually was doing a search for LA Weight Loss Centers when I stumbled on the site. I had already eaten breakfast but printed out a menu and started right away and, boy, am I glad I did! The part of the "tease" that said you can do nothing or feel and look better in 11 days hooked me in and they were right!
I can't see how this plan can have any negative long-term effects. I'm very close to my goal and I plan to keep on eating 4 times a day, switching up calories, exercising and drinking water.

| That's good -- I'm sure you're going to do great! I know how hard it is of breaking out of the stressed, overweight, unmotivated cycle, but once you start to lose, it just motivates you more. I remember when I started the program, I couldn't wait until my three days off but after seeing what I lost, I couldn't wait to start my second cycle! I can't tell you how many people I know have started this program after seeing my results!

Cris,
Do fish or tuna. I have heard some good recipies and if you don't like lowfat mayo, someone suggested lowfat sour cream!
If you printed your diet, go recreate a new one!

Hey everyone,
Thanks for the input! I am going to eat fish instead...i really cant bare the thought of anymore ham and I dont like Tuna too much either.
Arkie, welcome! Good luck with the diet this go around. If you are worried about gaining back when you reach your goal, or that its a quick fix and not a good diet, I would have to agree with Shamrock. There is no way you could put all your weight back if you continue to eat decent, 4 times aday, keep up with the water, and do some walking..Your weight may fluctuate a little more but I think that everyone agrees that this is a lifestyle change that you will be able to maintain but only if you choose to!
I wanted to start my diet yesterday too but ended up making up excuses and now here i go on cycle # 3...I have been awful about sticking to the diet lately, and once again went completely overboard on my cheat days! I just hope I can learn to break my bad habits some time soon! I mean I eat until im so stuffed it hurts! I dont feel good at all anymore, Im always tired, and moody! Before when I was doing well on the diet I felt great was positive and enegetic...I cant wit to get back to that!
Good luck y'all and keep on truckin

Maybe you could eat chicken? Or eggs? Not sure, but I really don't think it would mess you up at all.
Thanks for the welcome. And yes, I have some bad habits to break, too. But, I'm pumped and ready to go. A lot of the reason is because of how you described how you felt. I feel the same. Tired, moody, depressed because I think about my weight, etc. So, ok! Off we go!!!!!

I too was not a fan of cottage cheese. The consistency would make me gag. I have recently started blending it until smooth with a spoon full of sugar free fat free jello pudding (dry) It is great!!:P And I never thought I'd say that about cottage cheese. I had the recommendation to mix it with the SF FF jello, but I needed it to be smooth, I can't stomach the consistency of those curds....
So give that a try. I too needed a substitution for some of the ham.
Also I've received recommendations to swap a protein for a protein and a veggie for a fruit. So maybe you could have chicken and peppers when the menu calls for ham & pineapple.

| Hi everyone! Just wanted to check in and give an update, I have been on the diet for 6 days and I have lost 5lbs! Yippee! I started cutting back and exercising in February and could not lose an ounce so I found this post and decided to try this diet and so far so good. I need to lose about 20lbs before June before my husband comes back from Iraq. I want to surprise him! So I will keep you guys informed. Tommorow is fruit and veggie day. It shouldn't be too hard. The hardest thing I have found so far is that I am extremely hungry late at night but I just ignore it and drink water and I feel so skinny in the morning when I wake up!

Swap a protein for a protein and a veggie for a fruit. So maybe you could have chicken and peppers when the menu calls for ham & pineapple.
Great ideas!! thanks for that!
I have smoked a pork loin instead of the ham figuring it is not so salty and it is still pork, but any lean meat should be fine as you say.
My biggest problem with ham is how salty it is. Well, I soaked it in water and then tasted the water, and MAN it was salty. But the ham was MUCH more palatable to me. Just a couple of thoughts.

Anyone looking to swap proteins or carbs should look to the handbook at the list of fat-burning proteins and carbs. These are tools they've provided for us to use in our efforts to make this a permanent change in our eating styles.
I think it is understandable that we may get the same food too many times in a cycle and want to eat something else. We just have to be careful when we answer our questions when creating our menus. Keep in mind that there are only 14 questions to coordinate 40 meals! (F/V day is up to you)
You may want to give it a good look over when you are asked if you are sure about the choices. If you have selected any one food more than 3 times I say go back and change it. And if its not one of your favorites not more than 2.
And try to avoid selecting all the sames foods each cycle. Mix it up a little. Your taste buds will appreciate it. Don't forget to select mixed veggies, sometimes you get it paired with chicken:yumm: and that makes a great meal!! Last week I had kabobs!!!!
Remember to take advantage of the items that say you can add veggies of your choice. Like Tuna. Try tuna steaks on a bed of mixed greens yummy And ground turkey, is really good as a chili with stewed tomatoes and beans....you know how to make it. (I use a less than recommended amount of beans)
Also do a little leg work and find recipes that you can tweak to make IPD friendly. There are lots of them out there....
Today for my F/V day I am having homemade spinach and artichoke dip with zucchini chips for lunch. :P
Jayelle
Is there an IPD recipe section??? I don't know but I wanted to share this.
This is a tweaked recipe (IPD friendly)
GROUND TURKEY CHILI
1 ½ lb. ground turkey
2 lg. onions, chopped
2 (15 oz.) cans dark & regular red kidney beans
1 (28 oz.) can peeled Italian tomatoes, cut up (I used pureed)
1 (14 oz.) can stewed tomatoes
1 (4 oz.) can diced green chili peppers (opt.)
1/8 c. chili powder
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. dried oregano
1/2 tsp. ground red pepper
Brown turkey and onions (stir a lot) in Dutch oven. Stir in undrained beans and remaining ingredients. Simmer, uncovered approximately 1 hour.
Freezes well.
I am the only one on IPD in my house, this lasted me through 2 cycles!!

Jayelle:
Thanks for the turkey chili recipe! I am so excited to try it. It should super yummy. Now...how about that spinach and artichoke recipe. That sounds just too good to actually be legal. LOL. Where are you getting all of these ideas? You know....you should start an IPD cookbook! Sounds like a money maker to me.

Jayelle -- your recipe sounds delicious! I'd also be interested in hearing about the artichoke spinach concoction!
Arkie -- aren't you soooo glad you started the other day -- you're doing great!
I weigh in tomorrow but don't think I've lost much -- aside from my cheating last weekend (which I reported to everyone) I think I'm hitting a bit of a plateau (it was bound to happen). I'm going to continue to plug away to get to the "ideal" me. Tomorrow is my birthday (I think we have a LOT of Pisces/Aries in this group) and am in better shape than I have been for my last 8 or 9 birthdays so I'm happy!

SHAMROCK,
 HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
I am probably going to try that Chili too, it does sound good! Im so sick of my turkey receipes they are so bland, i guess i just get scared to over do anything on it so my meals are very very plain, but if its working for other people it cant hurt!
Im back to the weight I was when i started my second cycle..183. Which is fine with me because cheated so much last cycle, and I gained some weight during my bday so I know that whatever I gained is off now and I can concentrate on moving forward from here. Today is my veggie day and I absolutely can not wait until lunch. I am acctually craving:yumm: my salad! haha!
I think my motivation is finally back so hopefully I can get back on track and reach my target goal in 2006. I know I really need to work on making this a life change and not jsut a diet..it seems that the people who did that are doing a lot better. Another thing that is got me re-motivated is that I feel soo much better than I did during the past week (when i was cheating). I am not as tired and Im not depressed! I feel great!:D
Wish me luck, and lets hope this motivation kick im on sticks around for a loong time!
Best wishes,
Cris

Shamrock:
Happy Birthday! I hope you have a great day. And YES. I'm so glad I started right away. So far, so good. I had some headaches yesterday and a bit this morning, but that was typical the first time I did this diet. They should be gone by tomorrow. I'm so glad to hear that you feel so great!
Chris:
So glad to hear that your motivation is back! You are on a roll, now. Keep it up and let us hear all about your successes. It motivates me to hear about all of you.

Chris,
I'm not active in this particular group, but I just wanted to say that you needn't be bored with ground turkey. You just need a little inspiration and creativity. How about some ground turkey stuffed bell peppers, empanadas, taco salad, meatloaf, turkey burgers, meatballs, casseroles, stuffed mushrooms, IPD friendly lasangne, etc?
One thing that I had to learn to do in order to make this a lifestyle change was to keep things interesting. Thus began a slew of ideas and recipes that makes it extremely easy to stay motivated.

Lovely,
I tried the meatloaf, I may have made it wrong, as it was my first meatloaf experience but it was no good. But taco salad? Cassarole? We can have that stuff? I thought the idea was to only eat the ground turkey meat itself? So i never have anything with it..am I wrong? I can mix other stuff with it? Please let me know how u make those taco salads and cassaroles...wow 57lbs? id love to be able to report that!!
Thank you for the response I appreciate all the help I can get, its going to be hard to make this a life change if i dont have people like you telling me all the stuff I CAN eat!
Thanks a bunch,
Cris

Well, my meatlof is made with vegetable protein and is delicious. Also, the casserole is made with veggies and ground turkey. Sometimes, I melt a little fat-free cheddar cheese on the top.
As for the taco salad, all I use is seasoned ground beef and add a little chopped lettuce, tomato, and a smidgen of shredded cheese and fat-free sour cream. Topped with a little fat-free sour cream and taco sauce it's DELICIOUS!
The rules for ground turkey state that we are allowed to mix in a few veggies, so I take advantage of that;)
I wish I could say that losing 57 pounds, so far, has been difficult, but I'd be lying if I did. This has been a piece of cake (no pun intended!)
