I started my weight loss program on 4/2/08. I am currently 199 lbs, 5' 6.5", and a 30 year old female. I have lost a total of 31 lbs since starting my diet and exercise program. I am not on any specific "diet" basically I just try and eat healthy and make sure that the carbs I eat are healthy carbs, such as no white bread, potatoes, sugar, etc. I basically eat low fat, just healthy in general. I have not been counting my calories and as a result I think I may have been eating too few. This does frustrate me because I eat 3 meals and 2 snacks per day.
Here is an example of my daily eating:
Breakfast:
A one egg omelet with about 1/2 oz of low fat cheese and lean ham
or
1 go lean kashi waffle and one scrambled egg.
or
1 cup of high fiber low sugar cereal with skim milk
Snack:
1 container of Dannon Activia light yogurt
Lunch:
sandwich on one slice whole wheat bread, 1/2 tbs mayo, mustard, 1/4 avocado, lunch meat (lean)
Snack:
1 medium orange and 1 oz cheddar cheese
Dinner
1 portion lean meat such as fish, chicken, white meat pork etc and 1 serving of green veggies.
Sometimes I have an after dinner treat such as sugar free chocolate pudding.
I do moderate level of cardio 6 days per week, I either do the bike, treadmill on an incline and about 3.5 MPH, or the elliptical. I just started doing the elliptical this week. I usually have my heart rate up for the full 30 min between 130 and 145 BPM.
I do weight lifting 3 days per week.
Up until the beginning of last week I lost weight each week, between 3-5 lbs per week or more sometimes.
Starting last week however I have not dropped one pound.
I should note that I just started the weights about 1 1/2 weeks ago.
I did take my measurements last week, so this weekend I plan on re-taking them to see if I lost anything inch wise.
Does what I'm eating look ok? I really do not want to count calories. Any help would be greatly appreciated

| It doesn't look like you're eating enough, which is probably why your weight loss has stalled. I also noticed not too many fruits and veggies, so try adding more of those and that will in turn increase your calories! Your food looks like around 1000 calories, and your unadjusted RMR is around 1640, so you should go any lower than that. Last edited on 14 May 2008 11:08 pm by Tratra

| Thanks for the advise. After reading the tutorial on this site and the other posts I had a bad feeling I probably was not eating enough. Should I slowly add more foods? I don't want to add too much back and gain weight.

I have heard that it is best to slowly increase. Try maybe 100 calories a day the first week then another the next week and so on until you reach the correct calories. Hope this helps but I'm no expert.

look at it this way- you have lost about 30 lbs in about 6 weeks. do you know how great that is? i know it's really really frustrating to slow down in your wieght loss, but have patience. did it take you 6 weeks to gain the weight? probably not. did you gain 3-5 lbs a week? i have a feeling the answer is no.
ok, so i do understand how it is frustrating to stop losing. but realize that is not really all that healthy to lose more than about 2 lbs per week. you ave been doing a smashing job so far, but don't expect to hit the same rate of lose for the duration of you program. a platue is usually when you have gone a number of weeks without droping a pound. Several weeks. about a week of no loss can be terribly demotivating, but look at how far you have come. there are going to be weeks where you don't lose and then suddenly a couple of pounds disappear. just give it some time. my suggestion is that if you havn't lost in about 3 weeks, then something needs to change. maybe your workout routine... maybe your foods. right now, i say just hold tight and don't worry too much about it yet.
awesome progressso far!! take care, have patience, and the best of luck to you!

Thank you. I am proud of the accomplishments that I have reached so far. I am looking forward to taking my measurements this weekend to see if there has been any results. Do you think that taking measurments once a week is too often? If so, how often should I take them?
Today I did slightly increase what I ate.
Breakfast: 1 go lean Kashi Blueberry waffle with butter spray and sugar free syrup. about 1-2 oz of lean turkey ham and 1 Dannon light Activia Yogert
Snack: 1 Medium Red Apple and 1 serving of sugar free chocolate pudding.
Lunch: Roast Beef Sandwich on 1 slice whole wheat bread with mayo, mustard and 1/2 slice of kraft fat free american cheese. 1 medium orange.
Snack: 1.5 oz roasted salted peanuts
Dinner: I will have 1 serving of ham and spinach lasagna ( I found this recipe on a low GI web site it as a total of 241 Cals per serving. 1 cup of skim milk
Snack: 1 cup skim milk and one Kashi dark chocolate oatmeal cookie
Does this look better than my prior menu?

I would like to report that I think I panicked for nothing. I lost 1 lb this week, but I did loose 1/2 inch around my waist and about 7 inches around my upper legs.....so it appears that I have gained muscle and lost fat, which I am totally ok with. I do have to admit that I am a scale obsessor, so I do like to see the numbers drop on the scale, but now that I am taking my measurements along with that, it really helps mentally to know the reason the scale is not dropping like it did before.
I strongly encourage those who are dieting and exercising to take their measurements especially if you are strength training as well. As we all know, muscle weights more than fat and if you are gaining muscle you are not going to see the scale go down as quickly as you did when you were just dieting and doing cardio.

I am glad to hear that all went well. I know from the three years that I have been dieting, I got stuck many times. All of those times were for different reasons. It seems you found the reason for yours.
Good luck to you! And congrats on losing another pound plus some inches.

| Thank you. It does feel good to overcome a bad spot. I know it was not major in this case, but in the past, I would give up as soon as the weight on the scale stopped falling. It is a big accomplishment to get past that without falling off the wagon.
