I don't mean to imply, by the title, that ALL diets don't work. It's been proven time and again that diets do work when applied appropriately. I'm living proof.
I don't know if anyone has talked about this particular subject on this forum but I thought I'd put my two cents in.
I went on the low-carb diet five years ago and had so much success with it that all my old friends, whom I hadn't seen in a while all thought that I was sick. They kept asking me if I was ok. Well, this got me to wondering the same thing. Was it the diet or was I actually sick? So, guess what I did? I dropped the diet and amazingly enough, I gained it all back. Duh! It's been a nice run without the diet but conditions warrant my going back to my healthy lifestyle so I'm starting over after I get back from Vegas next week. :-)
One thing that happened to me during the diet was that I hit what's called the Weight Loss Plateau at about six months into the diet. I'd lost about 18 lbs and was feeling good but no matter what I did, I couldn't seem to lose any more weight. This went on for about six weeks. In that period of time I probably didn't fluctuate more than 1/2 lb. and I was getting very frustrated because I'd done everything that the "experts" told me to do with the diet. I was drinking more water, eating no yolks and actually eating a few carbs to fire up the system. Nada! I was very close to just dropping the low-carb and going to something else when a friend suggested that I try something I'd never thought of.
She asked me if I'd ever tried colonic cleansing. Well, no I hadn't and it sounded a bit over the top to me but she convinced me to at least give it a shot so I did. There was actually VERY little about colonic cleansing on the Internet back then so I didn't have much to go on except what my friend knew and what I could read at the library which wasn't a whole lot.
Now, this sounds a bit gross but I did as my friend suggested and got some info, again, from the library and I put together herbs and natural cleansers, etc. then I took the concoction thinking that soon I'd have a severe case of diarrhea. I was wrong. Though things were a bit loose I did have an enormous BM and I could not believe the "stuff" that came out of me. It was dramatic, to say the least. I won't even try to describe the stench. I know...this is gross but I've got to tell you hoping it will help you move past what's maybe keeping you from losing weight. The grossness is not pleasant but it's a fact of life...we've all got it in there, right?
So, anyway, I did this just once and I started losing weight again. No, not a bunch of weight but at least 1/2 to 1 lb a week. I thought, at first, that it was just water weight but even after a couple of weeks, the weight loss continued...so anyway.
I'm just guessing but this makes sense to me: something inside of my gut was keeping me from continuing to lose the weight that I needed to lose and this colonic cleansing knocked it out of there. I'll tell you what though. It sure didn't hurt anything because I seemed to have a lot of energy for a 50 year old after that.
I'll be doing the colonic cleansing again before I start this diet next week, for sure. I know it made me feel a lot cleaner.
Maybe this will work for you and maybe it won't but it certainly couldn't hurt to get rid of all that build up in your colon, right? I suggest that you try it if you've an interest.
