I'm 19 years old and I'm 5ft4 and weight about 110lbs. I understand that this is quite underweight for somebody my size, but if anything I look slightly overweight. I have no idea why this is, I'm not 'dysmorphic' or anything. I mean heck I have DD boobs, a 29inch waist and 37 inch hips. I figure this is probably something to do with a naturally low muscle mass. I have slim arms and legs. I have quite strong abdominal muscles but I actually have quite a bit of fat resting on top, and the bane of my life is my lower back. Nomatter what I wear it seems to hang out! I tried calculating my body fat according to my measurements and it actually told me I was 34% fat :S. Not sure how accurate that is.
Sizes and weights don't really bother me too much, I'm more interested in feeling fitter and looking well proportioned. I understand that there is nothing that can be done about bone structure and predisposition but I refuse to believe that there is no way I can improve my figure and feel better about myself as I have been trying my best to just settle with what I have and It's just not going to work for me. I've been the same height and weight since I was about 16 years old, it's never deviated more than 3lbs either way (except for recently where I've put on a few lbs but I have a feeling it's something to do with coming off the contraceptive pill as that's the only change in my lifestyle) even though I've tried numerous (very short lived) diets and exercise programs.
I'm a student so a lot of my hours are spent sitting around studying and painting, but I also walk for atleast an hour a day (and my area is very very hilly!) and I work at a warehouse place on weekends with basically involves walking around carrying boxes for about 5 hours two days a week. I'm going to start running again (something I did for about 6 weeks last summer and hugely enjoyed, my fitness skyrocketed even if I didn't really notice any physical change). I plan to run 3 - 5 days a week.
I'll be honest here. I eat sooo much junk. About 60% of what I eat is probably pure sugar. I don't eat a huge amount of food in a day but what I do eat is pretty terrible. You're probably going to kill me here, but I'm starting a low-cal diet today. I'm trading a small amount of chocolate for a lot more meat, fruit, veg and fibre-y things.
Sorry about the mahoosive essay, I just wanted to explain myself before I get any advice!
Thank you!

| i think changing up your diet will have a significant impact. also, have you considered resistance and weight training? that really helps lean a person out.

I agree with zenobia, a change of diet is in order! Don't go cold turkey though, just decide which of your junk food you really really love and which you can say goodbye to without too much pain. For me, I got rid of cheetos and cheesecake, but I still have my trusty tin of dark chocolate, even though I'm dieting.
One thing I do to keep my back and sides looking good is core conditioning on a balance ball - there are quite a few books out there that describe different exercises you can do, and I find that working out on the ball, maybe with some resistance bands too, can really help with toning up those areas that we don't really use very intensively in everyday life.
Also, since I'm a student working at a desk most of the day, I've started trying to do some posture exercises during the day. For example, sitting up straight and focusing on breathing deeply, and keeping my abs tight (not clenched, just firm) for a few minutes at a time. It doesn't really burn many calories, but I feel less stressed and I know I look better when I'm not all slouched over all the time!
Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great!

| Ummmm....You sound wonderful the way you are. Most of the women on here would love to trade with you! I doubt that you look fat! Especially with DD's!
