So I am pretty nervous about posting this but I cannot talk to anyone close to me about this problem.
I am five foot even and currently 162lbs which is overweight. I was 3 years ago only 98lbs never dieted or had an eating disorder just naturally that small and then I got sick and was put on prednisone (sp) for a long amount of time and gain about 40 lbs then I just kept on putting on the weight. I was at my highest weight 210lbs. I then dieted and excersise and lost down to 175. I then decided I wasn't loosing weight fast enough so I went to the doctor and she prescribed me Phentermine. I have been on Phen for 3 weeks now but since I have started the Phen I have restricted calories back to about 300-500 a day and then increased my workout to 2hrs a day. I also started taking laxatives every other day and sometimes everyday depending on how bad I felt about the food I ate. Also I purged 2 times last week when the laxative thing started. Well I started having some heart racing issues on Monday so on Tuesday I decided not to take the Phen I didn't take it on Wednesday or Thursday but binged so bad on Thursday and I have Purged 3 times on Thursday also. My mom was questioning why I was eating more than normal and I said I was just hungry but then it made me think about how much I was eating so I purged after that conversation and then went to the gym and when I came back binged about 1700 cals and have purged twice since then. I have also taken a laxative. I am just not sure how to deal with this. I still have quite a lot of weight to loose, and I don't want to stop the Phen but I also don't want to become so sick during the end of this weight loss journey. Please help me with any advice you may have!
Thanks

| I think you know or suspect that you have some sort of disorder. In my opinion you should seek help - a counsellor? perhaps go back to your doctor? perhaps try overeaters anonymous (they're not just for over-eaters!). Just don't do this on your own.

| I agree, seek support and help. These behaviors are so bad for your health, and they don't get better on their own, they just keep getting worse and worse. I understand how you feel, I feel that way a lot too, I still feel huge and like I'm so over-weight (when im really only 15lbs over according to the bmi scale.) I hope you find some resolution to this. Keep us informed, and take care of yourself.

It sounds like your issues are as much psychological (the guilt issues) as they are physical. The problem with doctors is that many only focus treatment on the physical issues and not the emotional or psychological. So the first thing you might want to consider is getting treatment from a medical weight loss center. I'm not sure where you're located, but down here in Florida we have some of the best weight loss clinics in the country. The physicians and specialists on staff usually have more experience treating food addiction, eating disorders and in many cases also the psychological issues associated with weight problems.
It also sounds like the Phen may not be the best option for you and your situation. It is known to cause quickened heartbeats, chest tightness & pain, restlessness, over-stimulation and odd behavior. Though some of these are on the more severe end of possible side effects, they could be causing some of your current issues. There are other alternatives that are naturally-occurring such as herbs and hormones produced in the body already. Perhaps you should consider getting off of the Phen and trying another option.
Just remember that these weight issues were not self-induced, therefore you have nothing to be guilty about. I know that is easier said that done, but it's a good first step. Then try some of the above options to see if they improve your situation. And also remember that whenever you feel you have no one to talk to, there is bound to be someone here or on another forum that has gone through what you're going through and has come out ok. There are solutions, so be strong and explore them. Good luck to you, and keep us informed on how things are going.
