So for the past couple months or so I've been posting on and off about my little health issues. Last December I developed acid reflux, and my period stopped.
My period came back about two weeks ago. My acid reflux keeps getting worse. I tried to treat it with Prilosec, but it made me binge, and caused me to be very tired. I've gained about 10 pounds since April, and am not too happy about that. . I stopped taking it, but now the acidic heartburn is back and worse than ever. My stomach hurts everytime I eat, but I can't stop eating thanks to PMS, and the fact that I'm plain hungry!
I try to ignore the pain, but then I can't tell when I'm really full, and it's extremely annoying. I don't know what to do. I can't trust the doctors because they keep mis-diagnosing me, and giving me pills that do not help. They've probably made things worse, anyhow.
What should I do? Can any one relate to this?

I would go back to the doctor. You know one of the signs of having a heart attack is heartburn. So, don't mess around.....get to a doctor. Not saying that is the problem, but why live in pain.
Maybe try a different doctor.
Ask around maybe someone knows a good doctor in your area....

I've been to about five different doctors in all, cport. Two of them for one issue, and two for another, and one for both. Each time the diagnosis was different, but the treatments were about the same:
See a councelor.
Take a certain pill.
My parents don't exactly have the money to keep messing around with this. Had doctors been treating me successfully, of course they'd spend the money, but since they really haven't, we feel like we can't trust any one, and can't keep spending money to try to find the one doctor who will actually do a good job.
I think I'm just going to stick to Zantac for my heartburn/acid reflux. Also, I'm trying this new thing where I'm actually trying to listen to my body. If I want to work out, I will. If I don't, I'm not forcing myself. If I want to have a little chocolate, I will, as long as I stop myself from a binge.
With all due respect, cport, I doubt I'd be at risk for a heart attack. Aside from a little peanut butter, my diet isn't very high fat, I'm only 15, I'm not overweight, I don't have high cholesterol, I'm not stressed to the point of insanity, ect, ect. I appreciate your concern, but rest assured, I'm positive I'm fine!

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that you were going to have a heart attack, but that is just what came to my mind when first reading the post.
It does sound like you have a problem. Maybe someone on here will have some answers for you.
Good Luck

Thank you, cport.
Have hollistic practicioners helped you in the past, Straylight? I must say I'm weary of both artificial prescriptions and advice from the "hollistic healers among us." They both sound just a bit hoax-like.
Acid reflux is such an annoyance because there doesn't seem to be anything good on the market that can treat it without terrible side-effects!

Do you drink diet sodas or consume anything else with aspartame? (I had a bad reaction to that and it screwed up my periods a lot)
Could you be allergic to something in your diet? (Also had problems with that...)
I'm not a doctor or anything. Just basing these guesses on my own experiences...

Yes, they have, and I prefer going to them because they are more likely to prescribe an actual whole-body-and-mine care regimen, not just a pill. Plus, usually what they ask you to do makes you feel really good anyways and plus it takes care of the specific problem you are having.

| Did they check for gallbladder problems, ulcers, or a bad flap thingy? I often have stomach pain if I eat to much fiber or greasy food and the doc says it is gallbladder related.....just a thought.

Good thoughts. I believe one of the better doctors my mother took me to suggested a small procedure to look at my esophagus with a camera, to see if there was any other, identifiable problem.
My mom freaked out and we went to some idiot who told me to stay on Prilosec (she was pregnant by the way. I, to this very day, hope she has a real struggle losing that baby weight for the awful advice she gave me and the ridiculous price she charged. I also hope her baby keeps her well enough "entertained" if you know what I mean. ).
Hollistic medicine is sounding better and better now that I think about it. What is it like cost wise? Do I have to make a lot of lifestyle adjustments? I really like all the foods you're not supposed to consume with acid reflux. I find my issue is present no matter what I consume, so my diet, in this regard, is not very limited (I have my morning coffee and daily chocolate thank you very much!).
Right now, like I think I mentioned, I'm taking Zantac. It's been about two days since I started to take it once more, and I'm pleased with the reduction of acid, yet displeased with constipation. For now I'm stuck with it, but I'm looking into alternatives.
Thanks for the tips.

A simply remedy is plain old baking soda mixed in water. I saw a test on myth busters the other night and they tested baking soda against an OTC Drug. Guess what? The results were the same.
I have acid reflux. I avoid all citrus, as it really seems to cause me grief. I've taken all the pills at one time or another. Today I usually just take a couple of Rolaids or some baking soda. As far as I am concerned, Pepto Bismal is also one of the greatest treatments out there.
Good luck!

You could counteract the constipation by drinking some prune juice or eating the prunes. They really do the trick. Believe me!

Hi, thought i'd add my two cents.
When I was 15 I developed chronic gastric reflux (GERD). I felt like I had a burning golfball in my throat for most of the day and would throw up pur bile (nice) once or twice a day.
The doctor suggested that mine could be down to stress (I was doing my GCSEs at the time) and he told me to look into some calming excercises - breathing, Yoga, usual stuff. Needless to say this didn't help. He then suggested that I try a course of Prozac to keep me calm. I knew enough at that age to stay away from antidepressants if I could at all and asked if there was anything herbal which I could take. I started on Kalms, which are herbal tablets containing hopps and a few other active ingredients. Whenever I felt like I was in a stressful situation, I would just take a couple of tablets and things really calmed (no pun intended) down - whether this was a placebo effect though I have no idea.
I still get boughts of GERD (I'm 24 now), but I know that it's probably due to my anxiousness now, rather than anything else (I'm a naturally anxious person if there is such a thing) - and now I know how to handle them. I know that anything with citric acid (eg orange juice) also doesn't help and that I should never have a large meal and go straight to bed.
I also get it when I'm really exicted and looking forward to something, weirdly :)
Do you think yours could be stress related at all?
Try half a glass of milk when you feel refluxy - it helps me - and mints seem to calm mine down a bit too if a GERD attack develps despite the Kalms.
On the periods note, ever since I started them (must have been about 14) they've been irregular - anything from 4 weeks to 8 weeks. Being on the pill keep them regualr, but the minute I come off they go back to irregularsness. Periods can take several years to calm into a pattern from the first time you get them, so I wouldn't worry TOO much about that - it's probably completly unconnected.
Since January I've only had 3 periods so I recently went to the doctor as I felt that they were much more irregular than normal. I went through a physical and a thorough blood examination and everything came back clear - some of us are just meant to have irregular periods it seems - sucks not to know when your comin on sometimes, but you can always go on the pill so that you feel like you have more control over them and get more warning about when they're coming.

Wow, Roxy....that wasn't two cents....that was the whole dam dollar!
Would you mind telling me where you get Kalms? Are there any side-effects?
Thanks for the other words too, guys! I actually tried Baking soda and Apple cider vinegar together, but they didn't work that well. Maybe if I try it alone I will see better results.
