My goal is to loose 40lbs and has been to for the last year or so now. I know how to loose weigh as I have done it before successfully. I went from 210lbs down to 145lbs in around a year. I then gained 20lbs while trying to loose another 20lbs to get to my goal weight of 125lbs. I suddenly developed a binge eating disorder for sorts. I could be good all day and then get home and binge on anything and everything we had to eat.
I am still trying to get down to 125lbs and finding it harder than ever. I am stressing about my weight all day everyday and it is staring to drive me nuts. Here are my reasons. I am a very spontaneous and free-spirited person by nature and bore easily with the same routine. In order to loose weight I need to set myself a goal of how many calories to eat per day and how much to exercise in order to each my goal. However I after a few days I get bored of eating healthy foods and crave something different, which leads me to binge on whatever takes my fancy at the time. I have also tried not planning on what I am going to eat, instead listening to my bodies signals, eating what I feel like eating only when I am hungry. This doesn’t work either. I overeat and end of still gaining weigh.
So basically when I plan my meals and/or calories I get bored and depressed and overeat and when I do the opposite and just listen to my bodies signals I overeat as well. When I bring lunch with me to work I don’t feel like eating it and go by something else and when I don’t bring lunch I wish I had because I am then forced to go eat something unhealthy.
Is anyone else in the same boat and can anyone offer any suggestions? I am desperate to get down to 125lbs and insanely jealous of people that can just loose weight without feeling depressed and burdened with the anguish of being overweight. I feel like I am on a merry-go-round and I can’t get off.

I'm not perfect by no means however, you've abused the word loose which refers to your pants when you LOSE a lot of weight. Too many times that happens on this site.

| Whoops sorry it's a habitual typo of mine. I type the word loose a lot during my work day so I get into the habit of doing it everywhere else too.

I still go through depression and anguish sometimes. I think a lot of overweight people do - the ones you refer to are a rarity.
It's OK to still eat the foods you like. You just need to eat them in moderation. Depriving yourself of them altogether is an invitation to binging.
In order to keep the weight off in the long term, you will have to find a happy medium, and make compromises with your health choices. It takes willpower, yes, but you've already proven that you can do it. Just stay on track.

I to get easily bored so thats why I switch everything up. Always changing what I eat and work out routine . It always keeps the body guessing so it doesn't get used to one thing all the time. Good luck and keep your head up

I completely understand where you're at because I've felt that way my whole adult life. I read somewhere once that people who are overweight tend to like a variety of foods (more so than people who do not have a weight problem).
Striking a balance is the answer, but it's so difficult to do. I've decided that I'll count calories for now, to lose the weight. However, I know I will not be able to do that for the rest of my life. I already have a plan to maintenance. It's a version of something called the No-S diet (Google it). I will eat three, reasonable meals a day and have sweets about 4 times a week. By limiting my eating to just what I can reasonably put on my plate 3 times a day (and making sensible choices), I can try different foods and am not stuck in some sort of calorie-accounting h*ll (for me at least) and am not swearing off certain food groups.
It is difficult to maintain a weight loss (the statistics show that). Sometimes I just feel as if "Life's short---I want to eat what I want!" But then I feel lousy because I look terrible, and then I think, "Life's too short to feel this way!" So, there has to be a happy medium somewhere.

Hi Lynn,
Thank you so much for your post. It helps me to know that there are others out there like me. I am also trying to just eat three meals per day but changing what those meals are depending on my moods. I am also keeping those 100 calorie snack packs in my desk at work so that if I feel tempted to eat something else I’ll go for those instead of heading for a coffee shop of vending machine.
I am also trying to eat a few more calories per day now, as I was trying to eat 1200 per day and failing. After failing I would just eat whatever because I figured that I had already broken my “diet”. I am aiming for more like 1500 per day now and trying to exercise every day to create a deficit. At least if I fall off the wagon (by not exercising one day) all I am doing is breaking even with my calories and not overeating. 1500 calories seems like a lot of food so it's easy for me to stick too.

Do you like to cook? I get bored with foods also when dieting. So, I try new recipes out and even make up some of my own. It's a great motivator for getting yourself to eat something thats healthy for you. I find I get almost excited about getting to try something new and can't wait to make and eat it. It is also time comsuming- going to the store to get stuff, making it, etc. So, I find that I get so wrapped up in the whole thing, that I kind of forget about dieting- not really forget, just not obessing about it.
I also, read labels of stuff I buy, trying to find lowfat healthy foods that I like. I do admit that I have had to throw some things away. But, just finding one new thing that I like makes it all worth while.
The key to eatting healthy is variety. I know some people can eat the same thing all the time, but I am not one of them.
Well, hope that helps.

Thanks Cportwine I will have to try that. I do like to cook so I'll have to look for some new recipes.
I really like when I find low fat dessert recipes and make a new one. Always seems like such a treat to have dessert but I can still stay on track becuase it is healthy.
