If anyone has been in the same situation I would greatly appreciate some advise.

What do you do if you discover that you have eaten all of your daily calorie allowance by lunch time? Would you

A) Not eat again until tomorrow

B) Eat something small for supper and go over your allowance

C) Eat something small for supper and eat less the next day

I don't want my body to go into starvation mode by not eating for 19 or so hours (until breakfast the next day).

In the same respect is it healthy, every now and then, to save up all of your daily calories for a big dinner out. I am going out with some girlfriends tomorrow night for dinner and typically I eat 200-300 calories during the day so I can eat over 1000 calories when I go out for dinner. Does this also put your body into starvation mode, thus causing you to store more fat when the large meal is consumed?

My suggestion would be to have a light, but healthy dinner followed by a walk.  Even if you go over your limit a little you can make up for it with your walk and not feel guilty.

Be careful when saving up for a night out, sometimes this can lead to a binge, don't underestimate how many calories are in resturant food.  Make sure you get enough food for the day, 200-300 calories isn't very much, and you are likely to be starving when you get to the resturant.  And remember if you do go over your limit, just get back on the wagon tomorrow, no point in beating yourself up about it.

Hey BEC,

When you try to lose weight, you want to trick your body so your metabolism doesn't adjust to your new caloric intake. One way to do this is to vary how much you eat throughout the week. Don't worry if one day you have more calories than other days, just have a consistent plan throughout the week and you will still keep losing.

If you've eaten all your calories by lunch time, make a list of what you ate that morning and track where you went wrong. However, don't starve yourself for the rest of the day, your body will enter starvation mode and conserve as much of your foods as it can to fat. Instead, continue eating throughout the rest of the day, eat lightly, but do not starve yourself, instead, just keep it under control as you normally would. And even things out by adding a little extra exercise for the day.

If you have dinner with friends, don't starve yourself as a prelude to the dinner (this will only increase your appetite and starvation-mode, making it worse). Instead, eat normally, and just eat healthy at the restaurant. There is nothing wrong with eating out and having more calories a day or two a week. What matters is that over the course of the week, you have been creating a caloric deficit. Don't feel guilty over eating with friends.

Good luck with your goals!

Thanks guys I was thinking that I should continue eating for the rest of the day as normal just a little lighter.

My problem today was that I forgot to bring lunch and breakfast with me with me to work and had to resort to eating at the cafeteria in my building. I chose the healthiest option possible. I had a bagel for breakfast (no butter just warmed up) and a grilled chicken sandwich for lunch. Unfortunately they put mayo in the chicken sandwich which I tried to scrape out but there was still some left over. I was still hungry so I resorted to getting a muffin (strawberry) after my sandwich and … hey presto I am at 1223 Calories already for the day.

I plan on going for an 8km run tonight but I hate knowing that I have to go for a run just so I can eat without feeling guilty. It’s almost like the run is my punishment for eating a muffin, which make it way less enjoyable.

I know it is healthy to go up and down during the week but today I feel extra bad as I created a whopping 1200 calorie deficit by the end of yesterday and then proceeded to eat 1000 worth of ICE CREAM (putting my calorie intake at 2200 and my deficit at only 200)

I know it can be frustrating when things like that happen. But, don't beat yourself up about it. Just make adjustments, so it doesn't happen again.

There have been times that I have forgotten to bring stuff with me to my son games and theres nothing there healthy to eat. I have either went without or ate the best thing possible. So, I feel your pain.

What I would do about the rest of the day is just eat really light and exercise. Which is what everyone else has posted. Just manly wanted to tell ya, that the most important thing is that you learn from it and keep trying. Don't give up because of little set backs.

Good Luck to you!
