I am so frustrated with the scale these days. I know it is normal to go up and down. But, geeezz! One day, I am at 126, the next 124lbs. I am so sick of the yoyo thing. I was bad at my eating yesterday. But, now todays weigh in was down, so I will probably not eat very well again.
Then Yesterdays eating will show on the scale tomorrow, so then I will be good again. Then by sat or sunday it will be back down again.
So, since I know all this. Then why do I continue this stupid cycle. If I could just stick to the plan, then the scale would stay down, right?
Would love to hear other peoples struggles with this, or is it just me?

Let me ask this: Do you use a digital scale?

| I feel the same way, my scale is always fluctuating. If I look at the over-all picture there is an eventual loss but it still feels self defeating to look at the scale and have lost a pound and then the next day look like I've gained two.

I weight myself everyday but only record my weight once a week. It helps me realize that on my weight-in days my weight could be off by 1-2lbs and my weight in is just an approximation.
It helps sometimes to plot your weight loss on a graph, using your once weekly weigh-in’s so that you can see a downward line. It help to visualize your weight loss and keeps you motivated.

I keep track of my weigh ins on physics diet. That tells me what my average is. So, I know right now my average is 124lb. But, I still without even thinking, eat according to what the scale says.
I suppose I have learn how to maintain without even thinking. But, I just want to lose 4 more pounds then maintain.
Once in awhile if I have a good reading I will get more motivated to do better. But, most of the time it is the opposite, and I think, I fine, I had a good weigh in, I can have some of the fatting stuff. Which in returns shows up on the scale in the next day or so.
Maybe I should track my calories for awhile to get that mind set out of my system. I hate counting calories, but it seems to be a good solution to my problem.
What do you all think?

I feel for ya cportwine. I'm in the middle of questioning my digital scale too. Last night I step on for a mid-week check in, and I get these readings in this precise order: 399, 394, 397, 402, 401, 388, 397, 401, 400. And the weird thing is, if I put more weight on the balls of my feet instead of my heels, I end up getting a 405, 406 reading or so, so now I'm totally confused. I'm just gonna get those giant scales from Monty Python's Holy Grail and go with those from now on.

Forehunnerd, it's quite natural to see scale readings with that much variance, especially since your body is greatly adjusting at this point.
My flutuations had for the most part been under control, but yesterday the scale said 267, a gain of 6 pounds from that morning! I ate pretty healthy yesterday, too.
Today it was back down to 262-263, and I'm pretty sure that some of that is still water. I didn't work out yesterday, so my body probably held onto that water in anticipation of a sweatfest, which didn't happen.
Unless you do the same routine every single day, you are naturally going to see occasional fluctuations. Just try to acknowledge them for what they are and move on (frustrating, I know).

Why do we always assume out weight fluctuates up and not down? If I see a fluctuation of 2lbs during the day (one reading being 162 the other being 160) I naturally assume that it has fluctuated up? If however I had accepted that my weight was 162 and I saw a fluctuation of 2lbs down to 160 I would be pleasantly surprised to see that I had lost weight. Instead I accept that my weight is 160 and I gain 2lbs during the day. We might have to accept the fact that if we weight our selves in the morning or after a long period of time without fluids that we are probably dehydrated and when we drink our body just holds on to the fluids because we need them.
They always tell you not to try on shoes first thing in the morning because your feet swell as the day goes on. How come we accept a bigger shoes size as our normal but assume that our bodies are retaining too much fluid after drinking our recommended amount of liquids?

My Digital scale, and from what I've read several others tend to fluctuate with even 5-6 readings right after the other. My suggestion would be for a more accutate reading, see if you can find the analog scale. I'm going to pick one up soon.

I don't think that is the case, cause I always double check it. especially if its a big difference.
I use to have one of those. I like this one much better.
Anyway, my reason for the post is that I get into this way of thinking that is keeping me from losing my last little bit. I think that if the scale reading was good then its ok to have a little bit more to eat. I need to break this habit for a little while longer and then go back to when I want to maintain.
That's why I thought maybe I should count my calories and base it on that instead of weighing myself all the time.
I don't know...I just need to quit cheating because I had a good weigh in.

I too use a digital scale. I weigh every Sunday, same time (within 20 minutes of getting up) and record. I know its hard to understand how you can be so committed but the scales aren't showing a steady decline each and everytime. But I keep telling myself it will pay off. If you keep doing what you know you should be doing it will pay off. I try not to obsess about the numbers myself. Sometimes even though scale says one thing my clothes are telling me another. I just keep counting the calories faithfully!

I can't weigh once a week just for that very reason. I know it fluctuates!
And if I weigh once a week, whos to say its not landing on one of the days that I am weighing more according to the scale?
I don't like doing that, and I don't have the patience to do that.
I am very obsessed with numbers, and the scale. I weigh anywhere from 2-5 times during a day. Its a very bad habit.

IMHO, I would get away from the scale and only weigh in once a week. Although, I do not always practice what I preach and started to weigh myself daily. Mostly to see if there is a trend of sorts, since my weight has not really change (+/- 1 lb for the last few months). I find that I am heavy on Monday, then towards mid-end of week the weight goes down. I do not weigh in the weekend, so I suppose the bad habits there are what attribute to the higher weight on Monday (plus, I am not regular and can go up to 5 days w/o a BM, so that adds up as well).
I was always told (lots from here) to not check progress with the scale, but from measurements like chest, waist, arms, etc, and bodyfat content. The scale can be your worse enemy!

There's something you can do to help a little bit with the fluctuation.
I have found that I weigh less in the morning if I exercised the previous day, broke a good sweat, drank plenty of water, and ate a healthy diet with under 2400mg sodium. This lessens water retention for your weigh-in, which I think is the biggest factor in weight fluctuation. Your mileage may vary, but it works for me.
