I have had a particularly grueling two weeks at work and school.  Just the other day I caught myself thinking I would reward myself for all my hard work with some lasagna at the end of the week.  I have really been craving it lately.  But then I realized how wrong it was to reward myself with food, especially unhealthy food like that.

So, I was wondering... what do you do to reward yourself without food?  It could be for working hard, sticking to your diet/exercise, whatever?  Did you used to reward yourself with food before dieting?

I would reward myself with a fun form of exercize. Instead of doing my routine of crunches and pushups, I'd go to the park and play some disc golf, or I'd go to the pool and swim around for a bit. It breaks the redundance of the same routine over and over, and plus you'll have fun and still burn calories.

Just find an activity that you enjoy doing, and use that as a reward. It doesn't even have to be that physically demanding...(i.e. miniature golf, go play on the swingsets in a park, or just go for a stroll in the park) It also does wonders for stress levels.

I have to admit that I do reward myself with food at times. But, I don't do it all the time. Usually its something I really need or want. Like I needed new sweatpants, really bad cause none of mine fit and needed them for camping this summer. So, when I reached my goal, I went out and bought some.

I usually reward with cloths. But, sometimes it can be something for the camper or for the house. Anything really.

I don't think it's bad to reward with food, just have to be careful so, your not defeating your whole purpose for weight lose. For me, depriving myself of certain foods, is just setting myself up for binge eating. So, I try to allow certain bad foods on occasions.

If I have done relly good and stuck to my weith loss regiment and I want to have something to eat that I have been craving I have have it.  It's not  good to deprive yourself of something you want food wise, it is better to have a little of what you crave to satisfy it.  I'm not saying eat as much as you want of what you carave just a small portion and that's it. I think you will find it much easier to stick with a weight loss progarm when you do this.

For me it's not so much reward as distraction, when I'm bored instead of eating, I take a bath or read a book, go on a walk or try something new with my hair.

I reward myself with food, also.

However, when I do so, I do it with foods that aren't all out junk.

My favorite reward food is tacos or pitas. Since the tacos are fried, I typically stick with pitas. On such days, my calories are substantially higher, but it's good to do that with your body once in a while.

Besides, pitas are really not all that unhealthy for you:

Whole Wheat Pitas (some of them have added Omega-3)
Lean Beef (Laura Lynn 96/4 or 92/8 if you can find it)
Mozzarella Cheese (Part Skim, and in moderation)
Fat Free Sour Cream (One of the few foods for which I buy fat-free versions)
Green Onions
Tomatoes
Lettuce
Texas Pete (watch the sodium)
Salsa (watch the sodium)

I personally don't do green onions or salsa, but the family does. Not my thing. But overall, not too bad of a meal choice.

Really, though, it's less of a reward for me than it is acknowledgement that if I don't eat something I really like from time to time, I might binge later.

I guess I don't really reward myself for my accomplishments...

i reward myself witha trip to the beauty salon to get my hair done .. or a nice massage ...or mini trip (day) somewhere cool :)

all that money im not spending on junk food and cigarettes and booze is adding up to some really sweet treats that are good for me :)

jgunn I love that idea I think that's a wonderful way to reward yourself, and when you lose weight you want to be pretty, isnt that funny how you don't even bother fixing yourself up when you feel fat and unworthy?

CLOTHES!!   Even if its just a new pair of $3 skimpy shorts to work out in....the neighborhood guys will be all starin' at yo firm booty!  LOL:tongue:

Or a new hairdo or a night out at the movies...whatever it is...make it a celebration!

I do think every once in a while it is okay to reward yourself with food...esp if you have something you've really enjoyed since childhood like G'ma's cookies or homemade lasagna...just don't do it all the time.  But hey, we all deserve a break and a little treat once in a while! What would life be if we could NEVER eat our favorite things again...just don't eat them all the time, you know?

My fave is ice cream treats!!!!! YUM!

I'm a shopper so am more inclined to rewards of shoes & clothes.

But if I have a craving, I find a way to work with it.

What about making a healthier version of lasagne? Whole wheat pasta, lots of fresh veggies, light on the sauce & cheese??
