I've heard both from many people; personally, stress has made me lose weight in the past, and the results were dramatic (with no diet or exercise, and going through a tough time in my life, I lost almost 15lbs in 2 weeks).

I'd like to say that I want to be stress free, but with these kinds of results, I am almost tempted to say stress is like a blessing in disguise for me---                                  ---what are your thoughts?

I think I'm a lot like you, femme.  When I am stressed out I tend not to feel hungry at all, so I don't eat and lose weight.  But I don't think that's very healthy because the whole not eating thing makes my body's metabolism slow down so when I do start to eat again (which inevitably happens) I gain all the weight back.

When I am super stressed I don't eat.  So I guess it would make me loose weight.  I get the stomach knots and feel sick when stressed.

Food is the first thing I think about when I'm stressed. It's not a matter of being hungry really, just wanting to shove anything edible down my throat, as fast as I can:nono:. I found myself checking my grades the other day....worried that a recent test would end up bringing one of my precious A's down. I felt my stomach tensing up as I was waiting for the computer to log me in, and felt myself eating my breakfast at a rapid pace.

Last night I was really stressed, about a lot of things and used whatever I could to comfort me. I took the day off from music practice, homework, and working out. I put on my favorite music, and of course, went to my favorite foods. I didn't binge, but I ate more than usual and found a few chips and cereal bars snuck into my plate....

It was weird, because I was ready to eat everything in sight when I got home (before I commensed my binge), yet I also felt like I wanted to throw up:confused:.......

I contradict myself in every way imaginable:caution::angry::caution:!

It has worked both ways for me.

When I was younger I would lose weight when I was stressed out.

Now that I am older, I tend to gain weight. I think I use food to comfort myself.

I recently went through a period (a couple months) where I was almost crazy with being stressed out on a daily basis - and it killed my appitite to the point where I was losing weight I didn't want to lose cause I was almost never really hungry....honestly I'd take and extra 10 or even 20 lbs of excess weight and a moderate, just part of living, stress level over that degree of stress and the "easy" weight loss it produced any day of the week.

I've seen weight go both ways with stress.

My sister:  when she was in Med School she would be so buried in her books, studying etc that she would forget to eat and she lost alot of weight!

Me: In the past when I would get stressed out I would be on the look out for comfort foods like Mac & Cheese, PIzza, etc etc

Nowadays I have really learned to do things like deep breathing when I'm stressed, yoga...physical activity to help me really relax..listen to self hypnosis MP3 etc.  ANd also make sure my nutrition is all covered so I'm not having food cravings due to low minerals or too much sugar in the diet!

It depends what type of stress I am under.  Usually if it is stress b/c of work, I forget to eat and lose weight.  But if it is family relates stress and it is occuring at home, then I tend to find any diversion (usually food) and I gain.

It makes me do both.  While I'm stressed I don't eat (and I'm fidgety which burns cals!) so I lose weight, but the minute the stress lifts I'm pouncing on the food (which, of course, confuses my body forcing it to hold on to every morsel) and I gain.

Stress I think makes me gain because I don't want to think about the situation and I have caught myself eating because I didn't want to deal with the stress.

My mother eats when she's stressed.  I like to sleep when stressed.

I have done both. I have gained weight from stress eating and I have done the opposite also. So, for me it depends on the stress.

I just try to recognize why I am eating and deal with it. If I start to stress eat, then I start asking myself questions. Like, "are you really hungry right now?"

I tend to not eat when I am mad. So, I use that and go exercise.
