| "Health experts" are constantly bombarding us with repetitious whining about eating nuts and fruits and fish and this and that...but how on earth are we supposed to eat all that while staying under their own prescribed calorie levels? Fish is upwards of 100-200 calories per 4 oz filets, nuts are at least 170 for like...ten pieces, pumpkin is insanely high in everything, and blueberries cost an arm and a leg. I'm kind of confused about how people manage to succeed in all that fruity stuff.

Well, I think the key is moderation. Having 4 oz of fish & 1 oz of almonds in a day is less than 300 calories, which is only about 1/5-1/6th of the total. A majority of the diet should be veggies and fruit. Smaller portions should be protein, and fats should be eaten sparingly.
Hope this makes some sense.

| There are fruits that are lower calorie, such as berries...if you get them frozen they're cheaper....melon, kiwi, apples...all fairly low calorie. And check out the recipe for pumpkin muffins on this site....I substitute splenda for sugar, and they're only around 60 cal/muffin. Also, the 100 calorie pack raw almonds are a great snack.

100 cal packs of almonds? 60 cal muffins? You've just made my afternoon very busy
Good suggestions, guys, I'll try to put them into effect.

The small can of salmon that I buy is 3.5 servings, and it's only 315 calories total, with 52.5 grams of protein. That's really not too bad. Try eating it with a salad. Tuna has less, and a lot of people like it, but it's not my thing.
Nuts are great, but definitely need to be eaten in moderation. Try to get the unsalted if you can handle the taste.
Finally, as the other poster said, try and buy your berries frozen. You can save a good deal of money that way if the others are too expensive.
