Without wanting it, I've been following a very-low-calorie diet in the last 5 days. I'm not advising anyone to start such a diet.
Just below I go into the details, here is a brief history about me:
I've been overweight at least since I'm 10. This was 1974. I was called "fatty" so many times. A minority of people were overweight in those days, so you were not seen under a positive light.
Since 1993 I've been on and off diets. I am 5'8, and was at 197 pounds 6 months ago. I went down easily to 180 within a month without too much exercise, but being careful with what I ate, keeping it at around 1800-1900 calories a day. I've been eating pretty much anything in the last 6 months, but avoided my downfalls: Bread, ice cream, donoughts, bagels, and junk food. I had them once in a while, though.
In the last 4 months, I've been pretty much stuck in the 177-182 pound zone. Five days ago, I've had enough of this belly! I decided to do something. And this is where I started this very-low calorie diet. I did not had in mind at first to go very low calorie. I intended to clean up the inside first with prune juice. I drank two litres of it in the first two days. About 3 to 4 pounds came out in the washroom... I was encouraged seeing my weight going down to 178.
On Day 3 I started eating mostly veggies and fruits, which explains why I was now in the very-low-calorie gear. I was satisfied with some grapes and oranges in the morning. This is about 220 calories. In the afternoon, I had watermelon, a few tablespoons of almond butter, for a total of 400 calories and in the evening, I was perfectly full with a huge salad of romaine lettuce, two tomatoes, and a grapefruit juice before going to bed, for a total of 300. Therefore for Day 3 I had a grand total of 920 calories. I added fish. As I said I was not trying to starve myself, but just eating healthy things and not overeat. I never felt I was starving.
On Day 4, it was even "worse": 700 calories! I started to feel some dizziness on Day 4 and 5. I thought I would be OK, but got a little worried. That's when today, Day 6, I've decided to up my calorie intake before something happens, like fainting. I don't need to faint while driving...
I was at 180 pounds on Day 1 and at 173 on starting of Day 6. My goal is about 165. I think I would be belly-less at 155.
It's now 1PM, and I've had 910 calories. This is what I've had so far:
Orange, 40 calories
Grapes, 100
Pumpkin 350
Mineral water
SALAD: Romaine lettuce, 2 tomatoes, tabasco, olive oil (1tbs), 2tbs of almond butter: 200
Almond butter, 1tbs, 70
This is my calorie intake for each day:
Day 1: 1350
Day 2: 1650
Day 3: 950
Day 4: 700
Day 5: 1100. (Average for Day 1 to 5:
Day 6 (by 1PM): 910

Today, Day 7, I've had 1070 calories. Not many! I did not even try to eat that little. It's just I'm full with a big salad accompanied with a can of tuna. This amount to 1220 calories a day in 7 days. No dizziness or unusual things to report. I feel great, but I do realize that it does not mean I'm healthy.

9:00 AM Pineapple 150
10:00 AM Mandarines 60
11:00 AM Banana 120
2:00 PM Romaine, 2 tomatoe, parsley
tabasco, olive oil (1tbs)
tuna, 1 can 180
4:00 PM Walnuts, 1/2 cups 400
4:30 PM Coffee, black
6:30 PM Tuna, 1 can 60
8:00 PM Played ball hockey

I am hoping to gain such self-discipline to help me lose about 20-30 lbs so I can get to my goal weight. From what I understand, the way you alternate your calorie reduction between a slight reduction one day and a bigger reduction the next is a good way to keep your body from going into "starvation" mode, which will inevitably make you gain the weight back when you re-incorporate your original diet (if you ever plan to do so). Additinally, the key to long term weight loss success is to adopt a change in lifestyle and eating habits, rather than calling your new eating habits a diet (since diets are generally temporary)---but I wish you the best of luck with your plan, and it seems like you are off to a great start.
Just out of curiousity, but have you incorporated some type of workout or exercise into your weight-loss plan? because this can help you lose weight and get into better shape (and tighten up). If you are reducing your calories by a great deal, then perhaps some light to moderate exercise would be best---something like fast walking for 30 minutes most days of the week, or even lifting some small 2-5 pound weights and adding in some lunges and crunches. These are just a few things that I am trying to incorporate into my plan.
Please keep us posted on your progress---it always motivates me to hear an inspiring weight loss story- especially if the weight loss was achieved through hard work.

| WeightLoser, you should google caloric restriction for some interesting reading. There is a book "The Longevity Diet" by Brian M Delaney, President of the Caloric Restriction Society.

Hi there, 2 years ago I had surgery, and by the end of it, and my stay in hospital I lost 17lbs, in 5 days. Wasnt permitted to eat for a few days, and then slow intro back. I thought wow this is great. All I have to do is consume less then my body requires and I can nail this weight thing. For about 2 months I did it, without anything other then low calorie count, no exercise. Over the last 2 years I have gained that weight back.
This time around I am not counting calories, but eating healthy, and for the first time in my life I have been consistent with exercise 5 days a week, plus my hoodia. I am happy with my progress.
I hope you reach your goals, and I know we all do what we feel is working, and can handle. I just know my experience with low calorie was, short lived, and in the long run, did me no good.
