I want to know, am I the only one going through this. I have lost a total of 100 pounds so far. I was 360 pounds, now I am 260 pounds. But I am upset, because know one told me of the side effects of losing weight, when you have alot to lose. I know that losing weight is always a good thing. I just feel like I'm losing one problem and gaining many more. I have celluliate, I have sagging skin, stretch marks, broken blood vessels.I wasn't prepared for this!!!!!!! So if there's any adviced anyone can give me, or if anyone knows how to reverse some of these things that I'm dealing with, please by all means let me know. Thanks for your time.

I've never heard of someone having cellulite after losing weight that didn't have it before, too. I have heard losing weight doesn't usually help much with getting rid of it, though. I've heard there are treatments for it, but I believe they're very expensive, and are not necessarily permanent. Building the muscle underneath is said to help slightly sometimes.
Sagging skin is supposed to be somewhat common with people who lose lots of weight. Last I heard, the only thing that can help much with that is surgery to have some of it removed and tightened.
Stretch marks I sympathise with you on. I still have some from my last pregnancy. (Heck, I'm pretty sure I still have some from my first pregnancy). With time, they turn from big red marks to smaller white marks... sometimes too long of a time, *sigh*. I've seen a lot of advertisements for creams or treatments that are supposed to reduce or eliminate them, but I don't recall seeing any advertisements that I actually believed.
Broken blood vessels I have never heard of happening from losing weight. You might try talking to a doctor about that? For that matter, a doctor could probably refer you to someone who could answer questions about all of your problems.

I used to think that anyone that considered plastic surgery was simply vain. But there can be good reasons for it.
I think one might be as a "reward" for losing a lot of weight and wanting to "tighten things up a bit." But it would need to come after a good period of time... enough to be convinced that you aren't just going to put the weight back on.
That's what happens when people lose weight and then rush to liposuction to get rid of fat in the remaining difficult places. Then just put the weight back on... making the operation meaningless.
About cellulite... I think I cover that pretty well in my FAQ on the subject.
Hang in there!

Hi, I've lost 70 pounds now and also suffer from post weightloss cellulite, stretch marks and sagging skin. I have had some success with creams for both the stretch marks and the sagiing skin. For the stretch marks I use a Jafra Cosmetics product, they work like Avon or Mary Kay and you can find a consultant in your area on their website. My jafra consultant gave me a free sample, which I used in 1 tiny area for a few weeks. For the sagging skin I ratate between a lubriderm product and another Jafra Cosmetics product. I notice the skin on my belly where I use the products getting firmer and the stretch marks getting lighter. I really noticed the resuslts the creams were having when I looked at my love handle area where I had not used the creams. Hope this helps and congratulations on your amazing weight loss!;)

| I had one guy tell me that if you took the peel of an orange and pulped it up and smeared it on the stretch marks and let it dry it would help. I don't know how effective it is, but it is supposed to be an old wives remedy for them.

Congratulations on your weight loss! You should be so proud! You must feel so much healthier.
I heard vitamin E based creams work well on stretch marks. I don't know first-hand though.
Now I might be misspeaking but the way I understand it, cellulite is genetic, caused by fat poking through a grid-like membrane under the skin. Men have less cellulite because their grid-like membrane is much smaller; with women, the grids are larger (think of it like graph paper) so the fat pokes through leaving us all bumpy looking... Ain't life grand. We got screwed on that one. Exercise, especially with weights, and doing lots of squats & lunges will reduce the appearance of cellulite.
And you might think I'm rude to suggest it but if you were at all interested in going the plastic surgery route later when you're ready, if you can't afford it maybe you could write letters to some plastic surgeons for pro bono work. Maybe I watch too much Dr. 90210.
Anyway, I think it's awesome you lost weight, I hope the benefits far outweigh the side affects you're experiencing.
Take care,
J

| You are doing great! Keep it up! I lost 60 lbs and have the same problems. After I lost 60 (a year ago) I stopped losing to give it a rest so maybe my skin would improve which it has somewhat. Drink lots of water to keep moisture in, and don't lose too fast. 2 lbs a week or less is plenty. Remember, the primary goal is to be healthier and feel better, not appearance. Some tricks: wear support pantyhose or spandex under your clothes. Gwneth Paltrow says even a size 4 has some cellulite and she uses "Spants" (I havent checked it out yet- found in good dept. stores). Sharon Stone says her secret is support hose which I know helps hold everything togeher. Walking helps a lot too. Remember how much healthier you are!

The broken blood vessels are a new one to me. I would definitely go to a medical professional about that. I've heard there are creams that can help with stretch marks, but I wouldn't know the best answer. As for flabby skin, that's probably going to have to be plastic surgery thing. You can't just wish that away. I know getting these new problems stinks, but think about how much healthier you are now!

Ironically, with the exception of broken blood vessels, this exact thing has happened to me. Do not panic! When I was 13, I weighed 275 Pounds. (I know, right!) When I was 14, I decided to do something about it. So, for the next year, I worked out alone, lost 75 pounds, had the same problems, then joined a sport and lost 25 more pounds. By then, I was super skinny, which I did not want at all. (Well, at least in my legs because I hardly worked them) The best advise I'd give to you, is keep going, but don't try to lose it all really fast like I did. While you do it, you will want to tighten it via weight lifting and strenuous ab workouts. That should help a lot! The term it's darkest just before dawn is definitely in effect on this one! Don't give up and let that discourage you, it will fade with hard work!

The other posters covered most of what I had to say.
One small thing though, you already had cellulite, stretch marks, broken blood vessels and more when you were fatter.
The only thing that changed is that by being thinner they stand out more and maybe you are able to locate them better yourself too.

I am not in your situation, but I have sensitive rosacea skin that is prone to broken capillaries. I find dry brushing helps keep it firm. It encourages collagen production. Over-stretched skin on the other hand, is out of my league of knowledge:( sorry

| People who take rapid weight loss end up causing damage to their bodies because they may be entice to use rapid weight loss pills, without knowing of the dangers of diet pills.

So far I'm down a little over 100 pounds and dealing with the same things. Weight training has been a big help with the loose skin on my upper arms - I've thought about surgery to correct what's left over from my stomach, but the risks of surgery aren't worth it for me, since it's a cosmetic procedure, and the loose skin isn't causing any problems.I've also read that If I get my body fat down to 10% the skin will tighten up.That may be an unrealistic goal, but I've found I really like working out, so I'll just take it as far as I can go in a healthy way.
For the time being, I'm trying to keep it in perspective. Does my stomach look weird? Definitely. Is a weird stomach better than diabetes? YES- It runs in my family. If I kept going the way I was going, it would have been inevitable. As accident prone as I am - I need to be able to heal!Last edited on 30 September 2011 07:57 pm by Tankgirl

bare in mind that bit must have been addressed to a man. Women generally always 5% more body fat at any given level of leanness. See http://www.caloriesperhour.com/tutorial_composition.php

| I'm not going to be too legalistic about the exact % if I see the results I want to get. It's really my thighs that bother me more than my stomach because the loose skin gets in the way when I'm running...a little gross and embarrassing but true. I'm sure my family and hub will freak out and intervene if I get too thin, anyway.
