Hope this does not offend anyone, and I apologise in case I do.
Was not sure if I should have posted this in the "off topics" forum or here. Ive been curious about how many cals are really burned off during an hour or more of "bedroom activities" On the activities calculator it says that 1 hour of "vigorous sex" uses up only 72 calories? Hard to believe cause I feel just as exhausted, if not even more of a "total body" workout than my usual daily routine.
Any one have more info on this, thought where else can I ask a question like this?Of course if figured this was the best place for information regarding excercise and calories.
I think many of us keep in shape for obvious reasons, and many out there of course do it for attracting the opposite sex, so the outcome of most attractions usually does end up in the bedroom, so I hope this spawns some good replies and some accurate caloric information.

| hmmm maybe this could be a good excuse at a bar "want to be a part of my study? I want to see the caloric burn rate during sexual activity, and you look like a great subject to test this on" ha ha ha!

| I would think your body would almost burn more than that in an hour doing absolutely nothing, so that doesn't seem right! You could always throw on a heart rate monitor to know exactly what you're burning...I'm sure that would be a real turn-on!

My guess is it would depend on the activity. Some bedroom activities (depending on who you are) doesn't require a lot of movement ( thinking "Maybe tomorrow I'll paint the ceiling blue..."), where others would require feats of strength and agility.
Maybe that's why people who swing from straps hanging off the ceiling are pretty skinny.
I think Peter would have to provide a calorie burn count for each type of activity, and that wouldn't make this a family forum anymore.

Definately, agree this is a "family" oriented forum, and I hope that it doesnt become offensive. I just thought that might be interesting to see how accurate the calories used listed in the activities were. I was surprised it was even listed in the activities.
Heart rate monitor? Ive never used one. Didnt know they were a tool in measuring calories burned, any suggestions on a good one with out being to expensive?
Another thing Ive wondered about is a good pedometer, I hear there are so many and many have been know to be so inaccurate.

maybe it'd be more accurate to measure how many steps u take in 6 seconds keep that same pace. and then take how many minutes u walked and
minutes walked =m
steps per 6sec = x
S= total steps
then u have
m▪10x=s
prolly more accurate than a pedometer...

Mine sure is innacurate. I put mine on this morning and at lunch time I checked it and my pedometer has counted 32 steps. I've walked probably 10x that much.
That's what I get for buying a $5 pedometer from Walmart.

If you read my notes on the accuracy of the calories burned calculator, you will see that I mention the calories burned figures for sex as an example of figures that I can't believe myself. You'll have to use your judgement.
On the comic side of it, most of the tests were done wearing masks that measure the amount of oxygen consumed by the test subject during the test period. That could make measuring certain activities... well, difficult. You get the drift.
BTW, there is a VERY funny spoof website on this subject. You can Google it.
I'll give some examples and be a little vague:
Insertion:
Male ready: 1/4 calorie
Not ready: 274 calories
(you can guess)
Real: 27 calories
Faked: 160 calories

Well, according to my husband it burns the most calories as any activity there is in the world. Which is why he says we need to do more of that, then anything else, such as walking.
Somehow, I don't think his calorie calculator is very accurate.

I personally use a Polar F-6. It cost me about $120. It's received great reviews, and I've never had problems with accuracy. It's more functional than the lesser models, and I've also heard it's more reliable than the more advanced models.
It uses a transmitter, which you strap to your chest. The strap is small, and you get used to it after a short while. The transmitter sends your heart rate to a watch, which shows you your current heart rate.
The monitor also shows how many calories you burn in a workout, as well as what percent of them were from fat. Useful, that. ;)

Do all the calories used up while the hubby is chasing you around trying to have sex count?

Depends on who's counting.
You would count those double; he woulld consider them a negative.
