I had actually gone down to 124 lbs. but since moving to NH I've gained 21 lbs and am now at 145.  Ideally, I'd like to be at 120 even though that's still a little heavy for my 4'10-1/2" frame but it's where I'm comfortable.  If I can stay in a perfect size 10, I'll be very happy.

I've just started back watching what I eat but exercising is the hard part.  I walked a lot in CA but with this NH weather, it's not as easy.

I would like to be around 140. I haven't been weighing myself at all though, even at the start. My goal now is for my clothing sizes to keep going down. I expect it'll take me about 15 months to weigh what I want.

Oh, me too, sublimedoll! My waist is 26in, and my thighs are 24in each, so they're nearly the same!

Peter, you're terrific.  This is by far the best site for honest information and no ridiculous "lose 50 lbs in 10 days easily with no dieting or exercise and never gain it back" baloney.

I'm 41 years old, 5'10" and weigh 161 right now.  My set-weight was 150-155 which wasn't bad really, but several things happened all at once: started seeing a personal trainer which probably increased my muscle mass, but also started compulsively eating and for some reason, sitting on my butt all night long, doing nothing.  I'd rather be 145 -- well, 142 if it was possible, but hey, I'm 41!  Bodies change as we get older.  I'm bigger everywhere compared to when I was 30.

I've identified my sabotaging patterns -- I used to wait tables when I was younger which probably added several miles to my daily exercise, not to mention some weightlifting (although I lifted trays only on the right side of my body), whereas now I have a much more lucrative but sedentary position at a desk all day.  Now that I have more money, my diet is a free-for-all -- I eat beautiful food, lots of veggies and fruits and lean meat, but also lots of snacks and always about 2 glasses of wine every night, which is completely empty calories.  I know that.

I'm exercising -- weight-training 3 times aweek along with about 3 or 4 miles on the elliptical trainer 3 times a week.  Can't lose anything though.  I keep wishing I was 25 again and could lose 10 lbs in a week -- but that doesn't happen to 40 year-old women -- not healthily, anyway.  I'm not unhappy with my body really, except for my middle, which has never been that small, even when I weighed 120, I was still built more like a boy than a woman with a tiny waist.  I have a belly now, and I hate that.  Probably from all this sitting and from the wine.  And I'm coated with cellulite.

I also smoke, and plan to quit on Jan 31st -- no lung capacity right now, and quitting smoking could help me increase that, and I know oxygen plays a huge role in weight loss.  I fear the extra weight I may gain if I quit, but expect the long-term benefits to help with everything else.

I suggest you start by reading the FAQ (link below) and then post more specific questions.

Hi there, I'm new to this site so thought I'd add goals to this post.

My weight as of Jan. 1st 2006 was 311lbs and I am now down to 294.  My ultimate goal weight is 200lbs.  I'm 6 feet tall with a broad muscular frame....childhood was great!!! LOL:dizzy:  I've reduced my calories and started being active in any way I can.  I'll keep you up to date.

6'0", 23, female

Highest Weight: 220+(never liked getting on the scale so just a guess)

Starting Weight 12/27/05: 211 :?

Goal 1: 199  WOOHOO! First goal of being under 200 met as of 1/22!

Goal 2: 190

Goal 3: 175

Goal 4: 160 (doctor's goal weight for me)

Ultimate Goal: 145

Feeling good so far...making a point of only weighing myself once a week, else it's too frustrating. I'm losing weight primarilly from my hips, butt, thighs, and I guess what could be referred to as the "love handle area". I'm doing about 60 mins of cardio (20 min stairclimber, 40 min treadmill) and then about 30 min of weight training (high weight, slooooow reps), 5-6 days a week. I'm making smarter food choices because I know if I restricted myself *too* much I'd crash my diet. I drink about a gallon of water a day (which I was doing already), I've cut down considerably on soda intake (I wasn't drinking a lot to begin with...maybe 4 or 5/week, but biiiig 32 ox cups), but I've never been much of a snacker...don't like sweets, candy, chocolate (though the occasional LARGE piece of chocolate cake was rather tasty...I work in an office, we have cake CONSTANTLY...but now I don't lol). I choose grilled over fried and eat smaller portions of everything because before I was under the impression I had to clear my plate...I think it was the whole children starving in third world countries thing growing up. I keep good track of calories, limit myself to 1200-1500 calories per day.

Some of the best tips I've been given are:
*Take your regular portions, then either toss 1/3 of it or save it for another meal/snack. That way you get 1/3 less calories than you would have!
*Always get a to-go box. Restaurant portions are outrageous.
*Eat until satisfied, not overly stuffed. (This was probably my biggest problem. I'd eat, eat, eat and then my stomach would hurt after)
*Before hitting the fridge or pantry, ask yourself why you're looking for food. Are you really hungry or are you just sad or bored?
*Drink lots, lots, LOTS of water. Helps with weight loss, makes you feel full, improves skin, hydrates you to BE ABLE to exercise...what more could you ask for?
*Always add your own light mayo, like Miracle Whip light instead of regular, which adds at least 9 grams of fat, 90 cals...
*Skip the cheese when you can, unless you know what's in it. Again, loads of fat.
*If you must get fast food, get grilled chicken on a wheat bun if possible. You'd be surprised how many calories you can save...and guess what? Grilled chicken tastes better than greasy breaded or fried.
*Eat breakfast...rephrase, a healthy breakfast. I ate b-fast for a while, but I was slipping in hashbrowns or turkey sausage or sometimes regular smoked sausage in with my scrambled eggs. Not good. So now it's either Special K or juuuuust eggs.
*Drink low-fat or skim milk. It's the whole 24/24 thing...I haven't drank milk for years, except in cereal...I'm still working on getting my 24 oz in each day.

There's definitely others, but those I tend to focus on. Good luck everyone!

Congratulations.   That's a good start.

If you can, monitor body fat instead of just weight.  Buy a skinfold caliper and learn how to use it.   Much better than guessing how many inches (or pounds) you have to go.

I started out weighing 200 pounds and I've lost 5 pounds this month, making me currently 195 pounds.  My ultimate goal is around 110-115 pounds.:D

ok, I want to get to 115lbs ( I'm 5' 3 1/2" ), my starting weight was 175 ( and only 10lbs of that can be blamed on pregnancy weight gain, that was my weight about 6 weeks post baby ) and I am currently 120lbs and have been for a while now. I had a couple set backs ( have learned that cold cereal of all things is my new weakness or trigger food, can't have it in the house! ) but managed to keep them in check and fix it before I gained too much back.
Congrats on your progress so far! :)

Start: 61kg on 1/1/2006

Now: 60kg (132lb, BMI 21.8, body fat 14-15%)

Goal: 10% body fat. Have calorie deficit till reached, then stop. But if reaching BMI 20.0 (55kg, 121lb) and >10% then change approach to gain muscle mass.

History: Male, 33yrs, 1.66m. Dieted in 1996 (low calories, limited knowledge of nutrition) but then lost interest, reverted to junk food and gained. Was overweight (154lb) until 2002. Not sure how (switch from Pizza to currys and sandwiches?) but got to 140lb by 2004. Did Atkins and started exercising to drop to 120lb but then lost self-control and even touched 140lb since then (I know that's BMI 23.1 so technically ok, just not where I want to be). I now know plenty about healthy eating principles but I still need to watch portion sizes of the calorie-denser foods and reduce my constant mistakes and slips.

Hi :)

I'm 23, weigh about 180lbs, and I don't really have a goal weight, but a goal size. I'm thinking I'd like to be somewhere around a size 7-9. Preferably 7, of course, but it depends on how I look and how healthy I feel at those sizes.

AND I'd like to be comfortable enough to wear a bikini this summer...?

I started out at 156 spring 08, lost down to 138, put it all back on and then some.  Started my current progress at 166 pounds, down to about 159 currently.  I don't have an ultimate goal, really, I just plan on keeping going til I'm happy.  Plus, one of my goals is to become more toned and stronger, so I'm not sure how that will affect the scale exactly (I know muscle weighs more than fat, but I'm not sure how much muscle I will put on and how it will affect the number exactly and all that).  I think I'd be most happy at this point with 130 as a short term, 110 as a long-term.  Again, I could compromise that 110 for more muscle.

My highest weight was 150lbs a couple of years ago..Then I dropped down to 124lbs, ate my way back up to 149lbs...became really miserable and dropped to 129lbs.

I mainained this weight for around 3 months, dropped down to 122lbs, maintained a little and now I am between 114-115lbs.

My Bmi is about 18.8, yet to me thats not small enough, yes I know its not healthy to strive to be smaller than that, but I think that there is so much pressure to be skinny these days. My next GW is 110, then see what happens from there.

My height is 5ft5.5, and I would like to add that before my hight weight, I was probably always between 126lbs-131lbs. (Other than when  I was 14 and about 100lbs through extreme dieting and body image issues, I was the same height at 14 and I believe this is why I haven't grown since then.)

hey guys, i def gained a lot of weight since college. i am a 24 female and trying to at least get back into to a size 3-4. I am currently a size 10, more or less.

Height 5' 2''
Current Weight 152 (the docs office scale was way diff and said I was 164 !)
Mini Goal for May 15th (i have a bet going with a friend): 130
Ultimate Goal  My scale:  103      Doc's scale: 115

When I was a 115 on my home scale in high school I was a size 5, so i figure this makes sense.

Gonna be keeping a food journal and exercising 20min x 3 days per week. Trying to keep calories around 1300.

Yeah I store A LOT of fat in the breasts and back. Being a DD with fat coming out everywhere is NOT sexy...just looks extremely gross...and makes you seem even heavier

Good luck to all!!
