Ok, I have to admit the calorie counter has confused me from the start. I do enjoy being able to look at the calorie intake.....I would like to think that it helps me keep tabs on what I eat...HOWEVER I have this to share
Calorie Balance: 1,285 consumed - 2,587 burned = 1,302 lost
Now that was calculated with only 17 hrs of activity and I included 8 hrs of sleep in that. So....how does this make sense? Technically I should be starving right? OK, I am a little hungry right now, tis snack time......but I eat a lot through out the day, fruits and veggies between meals mostly. So....what am I doing wrong? Using the calculator wrong? Eating wrong?
I lead an active life, electrician by trade, I work out with cardio 4 times a week and weights 2 times a week. My weight has only gone down a couple of pounds, but I have built up muscle and dropped a couple of pant sizes. Should I eat a little more, and if so what? Protein, more fruits and veggies? I know I have the carbs covered and as for the food guide, aside from the dairy group I am maxing out on all levels.

If you're putting on muscle and dropping pant sizes... the heck with what the calculators say... you're doing it right!
Actually caloriesperhour.com is the only site I've ever seen that goes to the extreme to explain how its calculators work and how accurate they are... or aren't. It's all estimates.
I've received numerous e-mails from people that have calculated calories burned and eaten for months... lost a lot of weight... and said the calculators were right on. Is that possible? I guess they had very typical characteristics or at least they matched the test subjects closely. Or they got lucky.
I'd have to see your calculations to discuss them (e-mail them via the website if you like), but the main value of the calculators is to compare activities and foods to pick out ones that will be good for you... not to calculate every calorie and live by the calculations.
I think my FAQ cover all this.
Keep up the good work and don't let the numbers throw you! They're just a tool to help you do what you seem to have accomplished... finding out what works best for you.

I have to admit, I've been wondering about that margin of error, too. My calculations this past two weeks that I've been using this site have been frequently in the 700-1000+ calories lost range. And while I have been losing weight, I haven't usually been hungry. I've heard repeatedly that losing that many calories a day is dangerous.... do I believe them, or my stomach? Or do I believe that, despite trying to be generous with my food estimates and stingy with my activity estimates, I'm not really losing that many calories a day?

Body weight can fluctuate quite a bit daily, but I just see how it's going over a week or so and make adjustments accordingly. That's how I answer your question for myself.

Sounds like the estimates are off somewhere, but you are getting great results, so don't sweat it. The belt is just as good, or better guide, than the scale. I check things here and other sites, and make good use of companies web sites. There is a lot of nutritional information available from the source and that really helps check it out. Ideally you get to the point where you can judge it by experience and feel and don't actually have to count up all the calories.
